Atlantis S2 Spoilers: 2.06 “Condemned”

Posted in Atlantis at 5:41 pm by AlaWriter

Atlantis S2 2.06 “Condemned”

Episode Summary

Sheppard and his team crash their puddlejumper on an island of convicts who are destined to be food for the Wraith. The sociopathic leader of the prisoners, determined to escape, attempts to force Rodney McKay to repair the jumper, telling him that if he does not the man will kill Rodney’s teammates one by one.

Spoiler Snippets

John Sheppard and his team visit the planet Olesia, meeting with Olesia’s Magistrate, a career politician who has long placed his own good above that of his people. The Magistrate is intrigued by the design of the team’s puddlejumper, and expresses surprise to find others in the Pegasus Galaxy whose technology rivals that of the Olesians–and that of the Wraith.

He asks where John’s team comes from, and receives an intriguing answer in response–that until recently they came from Atlantis, with Sheppard and his team saying that Atlantis was destroyed by the Wraith a short time before, and that they are part of a small group of people who survived (perhaps telling us something of the deception hinted at in the spoilers for Duet, and perhaps something of the events that will transpire in the season-opening Seige III).

Rodney asks how the Magistrate’s civilization has been able to make such technological advancements without interference from the Wraith, only to be told that the Wraith have chosen to leave the people of Olesia alone–or at least some of the people. It seems the Olesian stargate is located on an island penal colony, and that, though the Wraith have visited the planet many times, the Wraith have been satisfied to dine upon the prisoners on the island, and have left the remainder of the planet’s population alone. Needless to say, this is a rather effective deterrent to crime, leaving the planet virtually crime-free, although the Magistrate assures the team that only the most violent offenders are sentenced to the island.

The Magistrate leads Sheppard’s team on a tour of the city, fascinating Rodney with the news of a fissionable, non-radioactive material they use in generating power, and offers to show Rodney the laboratory, while John tells the Magistrate that he is due for a radio check in.

What happens next is at present unclear, but at some point shortly thereafter the team has returned to the puddlejumper and apparently attempted to reach the stargate, only to be shot down by the prisoners on the island. A wormhole has connected to Atlantis, only to shut down without receipt of an IDC. The members of John’s team find themselves captive and in the hands of a sociopathic killer, Torrell, who intends to use the puddlejumper to escape the island. He demands that Rodney repair the damaged ship, inspiring Rodney to demand to know what he is supposed to fix it with, asking if he’s now MacGyver.

Torrell is undeterred, however, and tells Rodney that he must either repair the jumper or his friends will die one by one. He gives Rodney one hour to think about it, an hour during which Rodney and his team learn that Torrell is a dangerous murder who has already killed eleven people.

Elizabeth Weir, worried about the missing team, takes a team of her own to Olesia to meet with the Magistrate. She is told that rescue teams had begun to search the island for Sheppard’s team, only to have to be pulled back when the Wraith arrived to begin culling the island.

While Elizabeth waits for word of her missing people, the Magistrate entertains a most unlikely guest for dinner–a Wraith, whom we will see eating food and drinking wine in the human fashion, by mouth and with the use of a fork! It seems this Wraith has found that he can enjoy momentary pleasure in eating as humans do, although eating in this manner will not sustain him. For normal sustinance, he has had a generations-long agreement with the Magistrate and his predecessors, an agreement that has benefitted both this individual Wraith and the Olesian people, allowing the Wraith a steady supply of humans on the island prison for his consumption, while allowing the general population of Olesia to be free from the fear of culling by the Wraith.

This Wraith is now seeking power among his own people, however. More and more Wraith are waking in the galaxy to an inadequate food supply, and this Wraith has promised to provide for them. The Magistrate must supply more people for the Wraith to feed upon, and he promises that the Wraith’s needs will be met.

Characters

The Magistrate, Torrell, Marin (an Olesian), Eldon (an Olesian prisoner), and Lorne.

    Ba’al vs. O’Neill on eBay!

Posted in News at 3:22 pm by Sally

Torturer or victim? You decide! Legends are about to begin their latest Stargate auction on eBay and amongst the items being sold are Ba’al and O’Neill’s hero costumes from “Abyss.” A hero costume is the one worn onscreen by the actor, so these are the actual costumes worn by Cliff Simon and Richard Dean Anderson.

Other items to be sold include the inner crystals from a DHD, Daniel’s hero Ra necklace from Full Circle, Osiris’ hero costume from “Chimera,” Sam’s hero flowers from “Chimera” and a Goa’uld vo’cum (camera) from “Serpent’s Venom.” There will be lots more props, costumes and items to come.

Items will start going up on eBay from 18th April, and you can find the auction by searching on the seller “stargateprops” which will take you to their listing. More items will be added as the auction progresses.

    S9 Spoilers: “Babylon”

Posted in SG-1 at 2:19 pm by DeeKayP

    9.08 or 9.09 “Babylon”

    Episode Summary

Gravely wounded in a battle with the Sodan warrior Volnek, Mitchell is taken captive by the Sodan and nursed back to health in order to prepare him for a fight to the death as atonement for spilling Sodan blood.

    Spoiler Snippets

SG-1 goes to the planet of Sodan, home of a great Jaffa warrior race who sought Kheb, but found their planet instead. The Sodan warriors are descendants of those Jaffa who opposed the Goa’uld Ishkur 5,000 years ago. When Ishkur learned of their insubordination, he ordered their deaths as traitors, but they fled instead. They set out to find Kheb, hoping their souls would finally know peace, but their search led them to the world on which they now inhabit.

The Sodan see the Ancients, whom they call the Shen’asai, as the true gods. The Sodan Jaffa follow the Path of the Shen’asai. They have successfully hidden themselves away from the universe, free to pursue the path of wisdom and the nature of the true god without interference from the outside. SG-1 attempts to warn them about the Orii, but one of their leaders, Lord Haikon, has already accepted them as saviors.

Three Sodan are introduced in this episode:

Lord Haikon – He is a formidable Sodan leader who has held his position for over 100 years. During all of those years, Haikon meditated on the nature of the true god, but his fanaticism has caused him to become blind to reality and the needs of his people. He ignores Mitchell’s warnings about the Orii and bows down to them as the deities he has been searching for all of his life. Unfortunately, his gullibility sets his people up for disaster.

Volnek – He engages Mitchell in a fierce battle which leaves them both seriously wounded. SG-1, without Mitchell, takes him captive and saves his life by putting him on Tretonin. At first Volnek is hostile about being placed on Tretonin and about what Daniel and Teal’c are telling him about the Orii. Eventually he realizes that Daniel and Teal’c have his best interests at heart and he eventually comes to admire them. Daniel and Teal’c seek help in freeing Mitchell from the Kel Shak Lo (the fight to the death) and helping the Sodan overcome the Orii oppressors.

Jolan – He is Volnek’s brother who reluctantly nurses Mitchell back to health from his fight with Volnek. He trains Mitchell in Sodan warfare and grows to see him as a kindred spirit and a wise counselor. Jolan is the intended opponent for the fight to the death, but he engages in a cunning ruse to spare Mitchell’s life and then organize a splinter group of disgruntled Sodan to do battle with the Orii oppressors.

Action locations include the planet Sodan and the SGC.

There are no mentions of Carter or Vala for this episode thus far.

    Guest Characters

Dr. Carolyn Lam [Lexa Doig], Jolan, Lord Haikon, Volnek, Prior of the Orii

    S9 Spoilers: Recurring Characters

Posted in SG-1 at 8:16 am by DeeKayP

Keeping the ties to the past eight years

Season Nine will see a lot of changes for the SGC and SG-1, but that doesn’t mean that we’ll have to get used to new characters as if starting from scratch. The stories starting out the season link to the past eight years with a host of recurring characters who shared SG-1’s adventures throughout the war against the Goa’uld, the fight for the Jaffa’s freedom, and the war against the Replicators.

Starting the season is the premiere entitled “Avalon Part 1″. Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks) and Teal’c (Christopher Judge) will be there to link the old and the new. We’ll be introduced to new regular characters Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell (Ben Browder) and Maj. Gen. Hank Landry (Beau Bridges). Even with such high-profile new leads, be assured that Sgt. Walter Harriman (Gary Jones) will be manning the control systems and announcing incoming travelers and chevron locks. And, along the way, Vala (Claudia Black, introduced in “Prometheus Unbound”) makes her reappearance and stays for up to six episodes to provide the female’s touch to an all-male newly-formed SG-1 (Mitchell, Daniel, and Teal’c).

Speaking of the female touch, we’ll also be introduced to Dr. Carolyn Lam (Lexa Doig) who is not only the Chief Medical Officer of the SGC, but also Gen. Landry’s daughter and a possible past love interest of Mitchell’s.

Additional beloved recurring characters, according to spoilers and Joe Mallozzi on his “Ask Joe Mallozzi” thread on the GateWorld forum, include Master Bra’tac (Tony Amendola) and Rak’nor (Obi Ndefo). These two Jaffa are joined by the new recurring character and one of the Free Jaffa Nation leaders, Gerak, played by Louis Gossett, Jr.

Dr. Bill Lee (Bill Dow) will also return in Season Nine. His presence is certain in the third episode, “Origin”, as he works to save Daniel and Vala from the grips of alien technology.

Ba’al (Cliff Simon) is mentioned in some of the spoilers, but we don’t know yet if we’ll see his face, in the episode, “Ex Deus Machina”. The mere fact that he is mentioned at all should prove that the Goa’uld are still around and causing problems, even after the major defeat of the System Lords during Season Eight. Looking for Ba’al on Earth will be the recurring character of NID Agent Malcolm Barrett, played by Peter Flemming.

And, if casting plans go as intended, we’ll see the Ascended Being Orlin once more (from Season Five’s “Ascension”). He is supposed to return in the mid-season two-parter, “The Fourth Horseman”, played by Sean Patrick Flanery. If Flanery is not available, however, the story will be written for another Ascended.

Andy Mikita, director, mentioned on his “Galaxy of Stars” forum that Dan Shea will return as Sgt. “Sly” Siler in Season Nine, but no specific episodes were mentioned. Dan Shea is also the program’s stunt coordinator.

And, last, but certainly not least, fans of Jack O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) and Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping) will see those characters making appearances during the new season. Jack will appear in at least two episodes (the season premiere, “Avalon Part 1″, and the third episode, “Origin”), while Carter will return to the SGC in the seventh episode (”Ex Deus Machina”) and stay until the close of the season. It was intended that Vala fill in for Carter during her absence, but some convention rumors have it that they want Vala to return to the show for more episodes, even while Carter is there.

Watch this blog and our Season Nine Episode Guide for details about the new season which is slated to premiere on the SciFi Channel at 8PM Eastern on July 15, 2005.

Season Premieres Slated for July 15

Posted in News at 7:20 pm by DeeKayP

Mark your calendars and start the countdown!

The SciFi Channel has announced the new seasons of both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis will begin at 8PM and 9PM Eastern, respectively, on July 15, 2005. The premieres are not being shown as two-hour episodes this year, it appears.

Stargate SG-1 begins its ninth season with “Avalon Part 1″ which covers the introduction of new characters and team members as SG-1 is rebuilt after all of the victories of the past eight years. These many changes reflect in the program’s casting. The only regular cast members returning for Season Nine are Michael Shanks (Dr. Daniel Jackson) and Christopher Judge (Teal’c). Richard Dean Anderson (Gen. Jack O’Neill) and Amanda Tapping (Lt. Col. Samantha Carter) have been reduced to recurring cast members. New regular cast members include Ben Browder (playing Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell) and Beau Bridges (playing Maj. Gen. Hank Landry). Additional new recurring cast members also include Claudia Black (Vala from “Prometheus Unbound”), Louis Gossett, Jr. (Jaffa leader Gerak), and Lexa Doig (Dr. Carolyn Lam).

Stargate Atlantis begins its second season with “The Siege Part 3″ which answers the questions left at the end of the first season’s cliffhanger. Changes in casting include the addition of Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex) and Paul McGillion (Dr. Carson Beckett; was recurring in first season) to the regular cast, and the reduction of Rainbow Sun Francks (Lt. Aiden Ford) to recurring.

Visit SciFi Channel’s Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis homepages for further information concerning these premieres.

    S9 Spoilers: “Ex Deus Machina”

Posted in SG-1 at 8:39 am by DeeKayP

9.07 or 9.08 “Ex Deus Machina”

    Episode Summary

When interstellar criminal Ba’al is found to be hiding out on Earth, the search for his whereabouts badly strains the alliance between the Tau’ri and the Jaffa.

    Spoiler Snippets

Carter is back at the SGC and has teamed up with Daniel to investigate the disappearances of top executives of the company Sentinel Media Enterprises. They disappeared about the same time as Osiris’ ship was destroyed (8.14 “Full Alert”). That ship was under the control of members of The Trust who had been implanted with Goa’uld symbiotes and attempted to destroy Earth by causing a nuclear war. The fear is now there are several Goa’uld on Earth gaining strength after another executive disappears only a few days ago.

It is also revealed that a Jaffa was found on Earth who had been in the service of Lord Yu. This Jaffa had been sent by Gerak, one of the leaders of the Free Jaffa Nation, to find Ba’al! It seems that Ba’al fled to Earth when he was defeated in the battle for Dakara (8.17 “Reckoning Part 2″ and 8.18 “Threads”). Ba’al could have been on Earth for as long as nine months!

Gerak is strongly opposed to any alliance with the Tau’ri and the Tok’ra, whom he views just as bad as the Goa’uld. There are other members of the Jaffa High Council who do not agree with Gerak, including a Jaffa named Tebrash. Gerak sent the Jaffa to track down Ba’al in secret, completely ignoring the alliance that they had with the Tau’ri in the war for the Jaffa’s freedom. Gerak also calls Teal’c’s loyalty into question.

It appears that either the Prometheus or the Daedalus is preventing the Jaffa from entering into Earth’s space to continue their pursuit of Ba’al (which Gerak was doing in secret).

Action locations include Dakara and Earth.

    Guest Characters

Updated List: Tebrash, Gerak [Louis Gossett, Jr.], Solvar (Gerak’s lieutenant), NID Agent Malcolm Barrett [Peter Flemming], Ba’al [Cliff Simon]

    Credits

Writers: Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie
    Director: Martin Wood

Sony Group Takes Control of MGM

Posted in News at 4:25 am by DeeKayP

Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis continue production under MGM

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. on Friday said Sony Corp and a group of partners have completed their $3 billion cash acquisition of the venerable film studio that was a centerpiece of Hollywood’s golden age of movie musicals.

Sony Pictures, the movie and television wing of Sony Corp., will assume distribution of MGM’s library of some 4,000 movies and 10,000 TV shows, which was a key factor in making the deal. The investor group will repackage old movie titles like MGM’s James Bond movies to cash in on new digital technologies.

The MGM library adds to Sony’s catalog of some 3,500 movies and 35,000 TV shows.

MGM remains actively operating and based in Los Angeles. It will continue to produce television programs and co-produce movies with Sony Pictures.

Its operations will be run by President Dan Taylor, who was formerly the chief financial officer of MGM. He will report to a board which includes executives at Sony and its investment group, Providence Equity Partners, Texas Pacific Group, DLJ Merchant Banking Partners and Comcast Corp.

Joining Taylor in running the company under its new owners will be Charles Cohen, executive vice president, who has been with MGM since 1997.

The company’s television distribution group will be run by Jim Packer. It’s home entertainment division will be run by Blake Thomas, and its MGM Networks unit will be headed by Bruce Tuchman, and consumer products will be overseen by Travis Rutherford.
