Shanks on Daniel's Longevity

Posted in Press Watch at 7:25 pm by michelle

Shanks for the Memories

Starburst Issue #339, Summer ‘06, features Michael Shanks and Joe Flanigan on the cover, and interviews with both. An excerpt of Michael’s interview is available on-line here, including:

…”In terms of the creative aspect, we’ve had a lot of continuity behind the scenes. Brad Wright has been there throughout, and Robert Cooper as well. We’ve had a lot of writers, like Joe (Mallozzi) and Paul (Mullie), who’ve stayed around, and it’s the same with the actors and crew. Most of us have been here a very long time, and that’s where a lot of shows falter. They lose people here and there and the continuity, which is so valuable, goes by the wayside. We also keep a good sense of humour.”

Buy the issue at Visimag.

Old-time fans might remember another interview with Michael also entitled “Shanks for the Memories,” conducted by Thomasina Gibson in 2002. The context and tone of that interview were quite different, as Michael had just left the show. Feel free to relive those times here. :( ;)

Stargate on Global Quest

Posted in Press Watch at 7:38 am by michelle

‘Stargate’ on global trek that spans 200 episodes

The Hollywood Reporter has published a new article focusing on SG-1’s worldwide appeal as it reaches its 200th episode.

The partners don’t do meet-&-greets very often with their show’s fans and broadcasters in London or Paris, they say. “You can’t write 40 episodes for television in a single season and go around the world and see people. But we do hear back from a lot of our actors who go to the international conventions. It’s also fun to go to the Net and see messages in all those languages, people who see the show from all over the world, from Japan, Germany, France. That’s fun,” Wright says.

Stargate Wiki Keeps On Growing

Posted in Articles & Updates, Atlantis, News, SG-1 at 11:08 am by DeeKayP

Stargate Wiki exceeds 2000 articles

Regular visitors to the Solutions Stargate Wiki might have noticed a surge in new articles recently as episode guides to the spin-off Stargate Atlantis were added to the growing collection of Stargate articles. Although the Stargate Wiki concentrates on the mythology of Stargate SG-1, there is some crossover between the two shows which needed to be addressed. With the potential of even greater crossovers coming when members of each show’s regular cast appear in their sister show’s episodes in the upcoming seasons, the addition of these guides will help SG-1 viewers get background information about Atlantis without having to search for the information outside of the wiki.

Also, another major project which has been ongoing is to add planet articles. Even the planets which only get a brief mention are included in the wiki!

We here at Solutions are proud of the Stargate Wiki, now a bit over two years old and one of the first of its kind on the Internet. It will continue to grow as long as there are things to be said about Stargate SG-1 and its wonderful wealth of characters.

S10 Spoilers: Line in the Sand

Posted in SG-1 at 4:25 pm by DeeKayP

10.14 Line in the Sand

Summary

Carter uses Merlin’s technology to move an entire village into another dimension to save them from an imminent Ori attack, but the village soon comes under danger when the technology fails and the villagers are faced with capitulating to the Ori or being destroyed.

Details

SG-1 continues on missions without Daniel Jackson. SG-3’s commander, Col. Reynolds, has put them in touch with Thilana, the leader of a village which is about to be attacked by the Ori’s army. Thilana is a strong leader with backbone and determination to refuse the Ori, but her fellow villager, Matar, isn’t as strong. SG-1 has come to the village to set up technology which will make the village seem to disappear so that the Ori will have no one to attack.

Thilana leads SG-1 to the village’s library where the records of her people are stored. Her ancestors recorded the history in secret, outside of the Goa’uld’s knowledge. There, Carter explains Merlin’s device to her: It shifts all matter within a preset range (the village) into another dimension. Because they’ll be in another dimension, the Prior of the Ori will not see or hear them and he’ll actually walk right through them. Mitchell is impressed that Thilana understands Carter’s explanation and claims that Carter normally has to “dumb things down” for him, but Carter says that he’s easier than General O’Neill!

After Carter sets up the device, SG-3 watches the Stargate for the Prior’s arrival. They’re aware that they’ll lose radio contact once the village and SG-1 are shifted into a different dimension.

The Ori have sent a squadron to attack the village, led by Firstman. He is a devoted Ori follower, having no problem at all in executing any villager who resists them. He witnesses the library where Carter and Mitchell are disappear before his eyes and determines to find out how it happened. Unfortunately, the village is discovered and Firstman threatens to burn the entire village to the ground if they do not capitulate.

Firstman’s squadron of fighters buzz through the air and attack the village. The wounded are taken to the local pub which has been converted into a makeshift hospital.

Teal’c is separated from his team. He searches for them, dressed in the robes of the villagers to hide his presence. He finds Thilana in the pub and asks her if she has seen his team, and Thilana says that she thinks that they have been captured or killed for resisting. Matar tells Thilana that he’s spoken to many of the other villagers and that they wish for her, as village leader, to go to the Prior on their behalf and embrace Origin so that the remaining people will be spared. Teal’c and Thilana try to talk Matar out of it, but he refuses to change his mind.

Carter and Mitchell are still inside the library, but Carter is badly wounded. Mitchell must administer morphine to ease her suffering. Both of them are still out of phase with the rest of the village and Mitchell proposes to set C-4 around the village and then turn off the device. In the meantime, Firstman has entered the pub and asks about the building which disappeared. Because he asks about the “magic”, Thilana challenges him that his gods are weak because they have not seen past the deception. Matar, knowing that SG-1 was behind activating the device, offers Teal’c for sacrifice, revealing his presence to Firstman as a show of devotion. Then, to Matar’s surprise, Firstman not only takes Teal’c, but himself and Thilana as well.

MGM Switches DVD Distribution to Fox

Posted in Merchandise, News at 5:35 pm by michelle

According to this article at TVShowsOnDVD, a few weeks ago, MGM switched distribution of all of their DVD’s from their parent company, Sony, to Fox. This throws into question the schedule for release of SG-1 Season 9 on DVD. Presumably Atlantis could be affected too. Let’s hope in the long run it means more DVD extras for Region 1 customers. :)

From Mike at SyFy Portal

Hello, everyone!

This is very unfortunate because we cannot post this on our own site since we’re still trying to recover from the hack, but I’m releasing the SyFy Genre Awards nominees for 2006.

Please note that the voting is expected to start June 25 and last until July 25. However, because of the site hack and the fact that our programmer Leigh Ashton has been concentrating on getting us back online instead of devoting time he had scheduled to get the nomination forms up, a possibility remains that we may have to delay the start of voting.

I can assure you that Leigh is working very hard around the clock to try and get everything back up among all the other things that also have him occupied on his schedule. We know he will do his very best to get this back up.

This was going to come with some trivia notes about the Genre Awards and such, which we included in our all-staff posting. However, in trying to correct the hack, we did a system restore, which cost us several message board posts, including that one. So, I apologize for the lack of trivia.

We will keep everyone updated on when voting begins. But in the meantime, spread the news far and wide who’s been nominated!

For more details on the SyFy Genre Awards including past winners, click here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SyFy_Genre_Awards

Humorous New Stargate Ads

Posted in News at 12:14 pm by michelle

Sheppard coaches pool player

Friday night during its Dr. Who marathon, The Sci Fi Channel aired three clever Stargate commercials, showing Sheppard, Carter, and Teal’c each using their unique skills to help “regular” people in real-life situations. Fans have uploaded the videos to free on-line sites:

  • Sheppard providing battle tactics to a man to help him literally take out his opponent in a game of pool and get the girl (watch video on-line)
  • Carter helping a woman retrieve her potato chips from a vending machine using the magnets in her headphones (watch video on-line)
  • Teal’c helping a woman out-bluff an opponent in a poker game (download video on-line — click on link at bottom of page)

The ads are replaying on Sci Fi channel this weekend. We look forward to more of them with the other main actors!

Thanks to Elyse at sg1_spoilme for the links.
