News, spoilers and updates in the Stargate world
I’ve encoded many electrons worth of my experiences at Comic Con, from merchandise hunting to the Stargate panels and other stuff in between. Enjoy the report here.
The New York Times reports Cheyenne Mountain will shut down daily operations to save costs and in response to the changing nature of the threats to North America. The base’s functions and most of the personnel assigned there will transfer to nearby Peterson Air Force Base. The mountain will be kept only as a backup, though fully operational and staffed with support personnel — a place of secure retreat should the need again arise.
There is no word on whether the SGC will remain where it is.

Tonight’s episode, “The Pegasus Project”, sees Dr. Daniel Jackson finally realizing a dream and going to Atlantis. His trip, however, is not for pleasure, but to research the Atlantis archives for more information about Merlin’s anti-Ascended weapon, the Sangreal. Daniel’s long-awaited trip is made with his teammates, Lt. Col. Samantha Carter and Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell, and new SGC consultant, Vala Mal Doran.
As monumental as Daniel’s trip to Atlantis is, there is another story going on while he and Vala perform their research with Dr. Elizabeth Weir. Dr. Rodney McKay and Lt. Col. John Sheppard assist Carter and Mitchell in their attempts to make a wormhole jump from a Space Stargate (”Spacegate”) in the Pegasus Galaxy to the Ori’s Super Stargate (”Supergate”) in the Milky Way Galaxy in order to close off the Ori’s ability to send more warships through that particular Supergate. Teal’c is near the Supergate in a cargo ship, working on his end of the project.
Tapping and Hewlett enthuse over working together again in this interview, which also includes some spoilers for later episodes for both shows (so beware!).

Stargate Project has location and set spoiler images for 10.05 “Uninvited”, 10.06 “200″, and 10.07 “Counterstrike”. Additionally, SciFi.com has a few spoiler images from these episodes as well, but they are not labeled as to which episode they are from.
Here at Gateworld it is reported that the second week ratings for SG-1 and SGA rebounded a bit, from 1.4/1.5 the first week, to 1.6/1.6 when including same-day DVR watching (known as live + same day). This is hopeful news, since in past seasons the premiere ratings were rarely exceeded later in the season.
Producer/Writer Joe Mallozzi has responded to the ratings reports, Dean Devlin’s movie hopes, and the rumored 6-month break between season halves in a new interview here, conducted at last weekend’s Comic Con.
Some people who bid on items in the MichaelShanks-Online.com charity auction have been receiving emails that appear to be real, purporting to offer the bidder another chance at the item at their last bid price. These emails are all fraudulent, so don’t respond to them! To read more, visit MSOL.com.
David Hewlett announced via email to David-Hewlett.co.uk that a clip from his newly finished movie “A Dog’s Breakfast” is up at YouTube.com. You can view it here.
This is the same clip that he showed at Comic Con to much laughter. It features Paul McGillion, Rachel Luttrell, David, his sister Kate, and of course his Dog.
Today’s Stargate panel at Comic Con packed the hall with nearly 5000 fans, many of whom had stayed through all the panels of the day to be there. Their enthusiasm seemed at odds with the lackluster ratings the shows suffered for this season’s premieres. Asked whether there would be a Season 11 of SG-1, Sci Fi Exec Nora O’Brien, the VP in charge of SG-1, said it was totally up to the ratings. She urged everyone in the audience to watch all Sci Fi programming live, saying TiVo, or digital recording of the show for later viewing, is [negatively] affecting the ratings. Gary Jones asked who in the audience TiVo’s the show, and about a quarter of the people raised their hands. Although Nielsen does measure TiVo playback, apparently it doesn’t count the same as real-time viewing, perhaps because advertisers assume (rightly of course) that TiVo viewers skip over the commercials.
Later Producer/Writer Joe Mallozzi said he’d done some calculations, and if everyone of Gateworld’s 20,000 members would convince 100 others to watch the show, then it would be renewed. That would hint that 2 million is their target rating in number of viewers.
Ms. O’Brien seems very dedicated to the show personally and wants it to continue, but everything is bound up in the Nielsens, right or wrong.
A complete report on Comic Con will follow here soon!
Sci Fi Channel has put up short (several minute) videos of much of the cast of SG-1 talking about their experiences shooting the show that has lasted 200+ episodes. The interviews were filmed at the recent TV Critics Association party. Michael Shanks, Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping, Chris Judge, and Claudia Black all gave interviews. Michael gave a few spoilers: a mild one is that his 1-yr old daughter Mia will be in a Season 10 episode.

From SciFiWire:
Both Russell [Kurt Russell, Col. Jack O'Neil] and Spader [James Spader, Dr. Daniel Jackson] have “always said they wanted to do it,” Devlin added. “They’ve always said they wanted to do it. … The irony is actually because it was 12 years ago that we made Stargate, [and] part two was actually supposed to take place about 12 years later. We were just going to kind of age them up as actors. So it actually works out really nicely.”
The sequels would steer clear of the TV show mythologies, Devlin added. “That’s right,” he said. “We would just continue the mythology of the movie and finish that out. I think the series could still live at the end of the third sequel. So we’re going to try to not tread on their stories.”
