SaveStargateSG-1 has been hearing unofficially from its sources that the future of Stargate SG-1 lies in TV movies, rather than the 11th season so many had hoped for.
We do see benefits to the TV movie format: it allows for bigger and stronger stories to be told, it uses the cinema-quality production standards of the show to best advantage, and gives everyone the opportunity to focus exclusively on telling the story, not fitting in around the grind and scheduling issues of daily episodic television production.
Of course the airing of the movies on TV would only be the start: 86% of respondents in our fan demographics survey have bought Stargate SG-1 DVDs while MGM makes much of the return on its investment in SG-1 through DVD sales, the franchise second only to Bond in importance to the studio.
It’s encouraging to think that as fans, our buying power will finally outweigh those Nielsen families, ratings woes and bad decisions by an insignificant US cable channel.
This is perhaps the best and most direct way we as fans can help secure a long-term future for Stargate SG-1: a TV/DVD movie franchise.
Cautious as we are in posting news that has yet to be confirmed by official sources at MGM, we were delighted to learn today there is some corroboration: staffers from popular entertainment website IGN.com have been on the Stargate set at Bridge Studios in Vancouver, posting this exclusive report:
IGN.com TV staff, 25 September
MGM has reportedly been shopping the series around to other networks but there don’t appear to be any takers at this time.
IGN TV recently visited the set of Stargate SG-1 and we asked everyone if they know what’s going to happen with the series. Pretty much all the cast members told us that, while nothing’s definite yet, it sounds like there will be several Stargate TV movies produced after the series ends.

Here’s hoping that our dream of securing the future of Stargate SG-1 is a step closer to reality!
We’d like to ask you to write Mr. Charles Cohen at MGM as soon as you can:
(1) Reference the reports emerging that the future of Stargate SG-1 lies in TV movies.
(2) Express your support for a **long-term franchise** of TV movies.
(3) Encourage prompt release of these movies on DVD and commit to buying.
(4) If you’re an overseas fan who already has Season 9 on DVD, or a US fan who has the boxset on pre-order, let Mr. Cohen know of your financial support for the show. It is perhaps the most important thing we have to offer the studio at this point.
You can write Mr. Cohen here:

It was recently brought to our attention that there were a number of ‘questionable’ Stargate autographs being offered for sale on eBay. Upon further investigation it was determined that the items in question were indeed fake signatures.
Legends Memorabilia has been appointed agents on behalf of Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping and Christopher Judge with respect to monitoring the Internet for fake autographs. Accordingly, we have established a reporting process with eBay whereby any definitively bogus autographs will be removed from their site. It is through this process that the recently reported fake autographs were removed.
We shall continue to monitor the Internet for such fake signatures as the Stargate actors wish to ensure that fans do not get duped into buying autographs that are not authentic. We wish to express our thanks to all those persons who brought these ’signatures’ to our attention and encourage all fans to alert us to any Stargate autographed photos that you feel may be ’suspect’.
At the same time, we caution fans to be extremely careful when purchasing Stargate autographs online as there are many fakes in circulation. Should you wish to purchase a signed Stargate photo, we encourage you to visit www.stargate-autographs.com, which is the exclusive cast-authorized site for the signatures of the actors. For those of you that may not be familiar with this site, it is the venue where the Stargate actors sell their autographs to help raise funds for each of their chosen charities.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for the names of authorized dealers/vendors who participate in the Stargate-Autographs.com project.
With thanks and regards,
Paul Brown

3.20 “First Strike”
Summary
Col. Abe Ellis takes the new starship Apollo on a first strike against a Replicator planet, but when his mission goes wrong, Weir must take radical action to save Atlantis.
Details
The Apollo is a new starship, recently pressed into service. On her first voyage, she arrives at Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy ahead of schedule, under the command of Col. Abe Ellis. Ellis is a no-nonsense, brusque, and take-charge commander and as soon as he arrives in his ship, he immediately beams to Atlantis and requests to brief Weir, Sheppard, and McKay on the status of the Human Form Replicators’ planet. Using intelligence photos taken by Daedalus over the course of the last two months, Ellis shows that the Replicators are in the process of building a lot of ships. Rather than Atlantis having to boost their shields, Ellis proposes to “take them down” by going directly to the planet with Sheppard’s team.
Ellis brings with him a set of Mark IX tactical nuclear bombs, housed in a custom-made weapons platform code named Horizon. Horizon carries six warheads and four decoys. McKay objects, saying that six warheads are not enough to “take down” the Replicators, since a single surviving nanite is all that is needed to re-create them. Ellis says that the ships being constructed by the Replicators are not made of nanites, but of conventional materials and that the bombs will be enough to destroy the ships. He’s hoping to buy time for Area 51 to complete its Planetary Wide Anti-Replicator Weapon (PWARW), which is based on the technology the Asgard used to build their Replicator Disruptor Satellites, but Area 51 has not been as successful in adapting the technology as they would have liked.
The Replicators know where Earth is and the IOA won’t sleep soundly until something is done to prevent these ships from launching. Ellis’s primary goal is to eliminate the ships and then use the PWARW when it becomes available. He immediately has McKay beamed aboard the Apollo to inspect the weapons.
Dr. Weir is concerned, though. She’s afraid that this will start an all-out war with the Replicators, but Sheppard tells her that the war had already started long ago…

In one of the more unlikely confluences of modern media, in his column about (American) football, ESPN columnist Greg Easterbrook wrote a long and entertaining “essay” about Stargate and the cancellation of SG-1. He pilloried the show quite severely, but his knowledge of the races and ships of the Stargate universe could not have been gained by a “casual” viewer. For example:
If these shows are winding down, I’d better get in my Stargate complaints in while I still can. Here is generic Stargate dialogue that could be inserted into any episode, at any point:
ANY CHARACTER: We’ve got to tell the Asgard what the Gou’ald said to the Tokra about the Ori.
ANY OTHER CHARACTER: But the Jaffa don’t want the Tau’ri to know what the Athosians found out about the Genii.
COLONEL CARTER: The gate-room plasma generator has gone into neutron overload! It’s causing a baryonic antidecompensation feedback loop that will release 100,000 terrajoules of dark energy and fold the entire Earth into a single wave packet! (She pushes a bunch of buttons really fast.) OK, everything’s fine now.
Read the entire piece here at ESPN. Scroll down a bit more than half way to get to the Stargate portions. Enjoy!
