SGU This Week: "Lost" (Spoilers)

Stargate Universe episode “Lost”, written by Martin Gero and directed by Rohn Schmidt, premieres tonight (April 30) on Syfy at 9 PM ET and on Space at 10 PM ET!

The Story

Last week’s episode “Human” ended with some unresolved issues; namely, Lt. Matthew Scott, MSgt. Ronald Greer, Chloe Armstrong, and Eli Wallace were left behind inside the collapsed tunnels of the ruins of a lost civilization when the Destiny resumed its faster-than-light (FTL) preprogrammed course. First, they must get out of the ruins, and second, they must learn how to survive on a lonely world with very little hope of getting back on the Destiny.

But the story isn’t just about the foursome left behind, it’s also about those still on the Destiny. Col. Everett Young isn’t ready to abandon hope that they can retrieve the lost, so he’ll need to depend on the scientific genius Dr. Nicholas Rush. Given these two’s recent history, this mission can’t be easy, but it might be just what is needed to get them on the “same page.” And in the meantime, Lt. Tamara Johansen must deal with a very personal situation that involves her pregnancy.

The Stargate is also featured in LOST (MGM)
Veteran Stargate writer Martin Gero wrote this script, and this story is very much in his style as multiple threads of storytelling are woven to produce an episode full of character study (what makes Greer tick?), action (have remote dialer, will travel), and classic Stargate sci-fi elements (amazing alien lifeforms and some technobabble). The Stargate itself also figures quite predominately in this story.

Even though this is his first turn as director of a Stargate episode, Rohn Schmidt is not a stranger to SGU. He was the Director of Photography for the pilot “Air” and was a key player in giving the show its modernized cinematographic style, similar to that which he pioneered for The Shield.

[spoiler intro=”Official Episode Summary”]The situation is dire for Lt. Scott, Eli, Chloe and Greer. While trapped beneath the ruins in an underground maze, Destiny jumped back into FTL leaving them behind. They must first find a way out of the ruins before they can figure out how to survive without the Destiny.

Meanwhile, unable to turn the massive ship around, Dr. Rush and Colonel Young work to devise a plan to get the lost crew members back. But the situation grows even more desperate when Rush learns that Destiny will soon be leaving the present galaxy, stranding the away team forever.
