S8 SPOILERS: GOOD TO BE KING

Season 8’s ‘Good to be King’ features the return of fan favorite Harry Maybourne. Circumstances lead Maybourne to play the role of native ruler ‘King Arkhan the First’ while Daniel and Teal’c play his retainers. Maybourne is trying to appease Trelak, First Prime to Lord Ares, who will soon come to reclaim the land Maybourne is pretending to rule over. From a servant, Trelak learns of a prophecy of his forces’ defeat, which peaks his interest but makes Maybourne very uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, Carter and O’Neill are on the puddle jumper ship, which is perhaps disabled. O’Neill encourages Carter to finish her work, since Daniel has warned him that trouble is on the way.

COOPER REVEALS S8 SG-1 SPOILERS

SG-1 Spoilers Revealed

Robert C. Cooper, executive producer of SCI FI Channel’s original series Stargate SG-1, told SCI FI Wire that the upcoming eighth season will wrap up a few things. “To a certain extent I hope that fans will feel that at the end of this season that a lot the threads and storylines that … they want to see resolved will be resolved,” Cooper said in an interview on the show’s Vancouver, B.C., set.

Among other things, the series will deal once and for all with the Replicator threat, Cooper said.”They become a force in our galaxy, and then ultimately get into a … big war with the Goa’uld,” he said. “And we kind of get caught in between the two and have to decide who we want to side with and help.”

Cooper added that the show will deal with the fallout of Daniel Jackson’s (Michael Shanks) ascendance and return to Earth. “Daniel’s going to come to a bit of a closure with the whole ascendance storyline and what happened to him while he was ascended and his relationship with Oma and his kind of personal battle with Anubis and his feeling of responsibility for maybe not being able to complete the process of eliminating Anubis.” As for Anubis (David Palffy), who appeared to have perished at the end of the seventh season, Cooper teased, “I’ll say that there are still issues out there.” Baal (Cliff Simon), another Goa’uld System Lord, will also return.

And SG-1 will deal further with the Jaffa rebellion, including reprising the character of Ishta, played by Star Trek: Enterprise’s Jolene Blalock, who first appeared in the season-seven episode “Birthright.”

In response to a question about whether the upcoming season will be the show’s last, Cooper said, “We also are not going to completely end the show. We never wanted to end the show. Our intention was to leave it open so that SG-1 was still out there on adventures and also leave the door open for features or TV movies or direct-to-video movies or whatever, that sort of thing, so that the franchise will continue.”

Stargate SG-1 returns with a two-hour season premiere at 9 p.m. ET/PT July 9.

CLAUDIA BLACK TO GUEST IN S8

Claudia BlackFarscape star Claudia Black, who played the Peacekeeper Officer Aeryn Sun in the SCI FI Channel original series, is to guest star in Stargate SG-1’s Season 8 episode “Prometheus Unbound“. The news was reported in a post at Gateworld Forum by Stargate writer and Co-Executive Producer Joseph Mallozzi.

Mallozzi told fans that Black will play Vala, the alien woman who steals the Earth’s only starship Prometheus, and with it, Dr. Daniel Jackson.

Vala, dryly humorous, challenging and cynical, uses her looks to try to distract Daniel from preventing completion of her mission, which is to deliver the Prometheus to her people, whom she alleges to be rebels fleeing from Ba’al. Vala herself was once the host to a Goa’uld symbiote.

Farscape’s Aeryn Sun is one of the strongest and smartest female characters to ever grace the screen, with Black taking a coveted TV Guide cover as one of the sexiest stars in the universe. Farscape fans are fortunate to be able to welcome Claudia Black back to her most famous role in the mini-series “Farscape: Peacekeeper War” which finished filming in March of this year and is currently in post-production. Also starring Ben Browder [reprising his role of John Crichton], “Peacekeeper War” wraps up the loose ends left dangling when the series came to its abrupt and much lamented end last year after it was cancelled by SCI FI Channel because of disappointing ratings. Ironically, its spot in SCI FI’s Friday night line-up was taken by Stargate SG-1.

Stargate fans are sure to welcome Claudia Black to the SG-1 universe and will keenly anticipate the entanglement of her character Vala with series favourite Daniel Jackson, played by star Michael Shanks, in Season 8’s “Prometheus Unbound”. Black’s appearance in the show is sure to excite media and genre interest.

S8 UPDATE: PROMETHEUS UNBOUND

Since our original report on Prometheus Unbound there have been changes in the information about the episode.

The character of Vala and Daniel’s interaction with her have changed. Vala is now more dryly humorous and cynical, and uses her looks to try to distract Daniel. Daniel is more knowledgeable about the workings of the Prometheus, even if he doesn’t admit it to her at first. He remains skeptical of her motives and is not fooled by her attempts to manipulate him. There appears to be some great banter between the two.

Vala’s backstory has changed as well. The Tok’ra incited a rebellion on Vala’s planet, against the Goa’uld Gyn’ar. When the rebellion succeeded, Gyn’ar was tortured for days, along with Vala, who was the unwilling host. The Tok’ra removed Gyn’ar from Vala. Soon after, the Tok’ra left and another Goa’uld came on the scene, Camulus. With the capability for space travel, some of Vala’s people escaped in ships, some of those ending up on a nearby inhabitable moon. Camulus’ forces were in turn defeated by Ba’al, who is now scouring the territory looking for survivors. Vala claims her purpose is to rescue the people trapped on the moon and relocate them to a safe, Goa’uld-free planet.

Vala has programmed the Prometheus to travel to her homeworld, and locked Daniel out of the navigation system. As he is arguing with her about it, he sees a ship appear on the radar – an Al’kesh. She is convinced it is an enemy vessel, but Daniel isn’t sure – it could be Hammond and the others.

Meanwhile aboard the diabled Al’kesh, instead of Pendergast there is now Reynolds, presumably the Colonel we have seen before (Col. Reynolds). There appears to be a slim hope of fixing the Al’kesh using some spare parts from the nearby disabled cargo ship. It appears the Prometheus was on a rescue mission when they were duped by Vala.

Venturing into editorial for a moment, the revised information indicates a stronger and more interesting episode, at least in terms of Daniel and Vala’s interaction. We were pleased to see this and are looking forward to the episode very much.

S8 UPDATE: SACRIFICES

Sacrifices, the Season 8 episode penned by actor Christopher Judge, looks set to reunite Teal’c not just with his warrior love Ishta, but with Master Bra’tac and son Rya’c too. Dealing with the Goa’uld Moloc’s attack on Ishta and her people is just one of Teal’c’s problems in the Jaffa-themed Sacrifices. It seems the Big Guy is less than thrilled to discover son Ryac’s wedding plans!

Fans of Jack and Daniel have a treat or two in store too…

TAPPING: CHANGES TO COME IN S8

Extract from “We Love Amanda In Uniform”
By Thomasina Gibson, Cult Times Special #30, “Feisty Females”, June 2004

Colonel Sam Carter

“I have been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel,” Amanda Tapping [Colonel Sam Carter] told Brit scifi magazine Cult Times for its “Feisty Females” special. “O’Neill is promoted to Brigadier General and the first thing he does is promote Carter to colonel, and I was really surprised and delighted.”

As for General George Hammond, “He’s been promoted too, you know. He’s now in charge of all things pertaining to Stargates and has a swanky new office in the Pentagon. O’Neill speaks to him every day. General Hammond’s presence will be heard if not seen.”

Cult Times asked what sort of colonel Carter is going to be. “Well, I am going to go against writer type,” Tapping responds. “I am going to be a real woman about it, and judging by the women that I’ve met in the military I’m going to conduct myself with grace and dignity and do my job really well. But I don’t foresee any major changes on the horizon.”

Tapping proclaims, “In a slight shift of operations, much of the action is going to centre on the SGC this year, so General O’Neill will have quite a say in what’s going on too. We might well be fulfilling different roles this season, but SG-1 is still, and will always remain, a team. The warmth, respect and love we have for each other won’t change.”

Carter is unabashadly set to continue her romance with Detective Pete Shanahan, played by the delectable David DeLuise. “Pete is a pretty good guy,” says Tapping. “He’s open and he is honest. He’s warm, friendly and very sexy. Pete is one of the good guys and a very good guy for Sam.”

“O’Neill was back for a brief shining moment last week wherein it was a bit of a dream torture sequence we were filming.” [New Order]. “The dream sequence was actually quite idyllic and it was interesting to see what actually goes on inside Carter’s head. What her ideal future is.” Tapping grins that a lot of the fans are going to like it.

A far more sinister and unexpected liaison is on the cards for Carter. It really would spoil a whole lot to reveal her accomplice, but let’s just say we get to see a very bad side of the colonel very early on in the season. Tapping reveals that we’ll be seeing a lot more…”Carter has to slide through a tube nekkid…in quite a dark and sinister episode. It has the potential to have consequences for everyone in general, but Carter in particular.”

“We don’t know exactly what the writers have planned for each of us this year,” Tapping goes on, “but I can tell you Daniel is still trying to sort out the repercussions of having been ascended and what that means with regard to how he can use his knowledge to help defend ourselves. Teal’c takes the bold step of moving out of the SGC into the wider world and gets into a few adventures out there, so it’s going to be interesting watching those events unfold.”

S8 SPOILERS: GEMINI

Fans of Colonel Samantha Carter will be seeing double when Season 8 episode “Gemini” airs. Actress Amanda Tapping, who plays Carter on the show, teased two British fans with hints about the episode – not yet in production – during their visit to the Stargate SG-1 set this week. According to Amanda, “Gemini” will feature “two Carters” but isn’t an Alternate Universe story.

SG-1s NEW DOCTOR

Alisen Down will be joining the cast of Stargate SG-1 in the recurring role of Dr. Brightman, who will be appearing in Season 8 episodes “Lockdown” and “Zero Hour”. She replaces fan favourite Teryl Rothery, who portrayed Dr. Janet Fraiser from Season 1’s “The Broca Divide” until Season 7’s “Heroes”.

Alisen Down as Dr. BrightmanDown’s star has been rising rapidly over the past three years. Born in a country suburb of Vancouver, BC, she grew up surrounded by animals that she used to entertain with skits and charades. As far back as she can remember, Down always wanted to be an actress and spent her youth writing and producing her own plays. After graduating from high school, Down attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in California and then moved to England to continue her studies at the British American Dramatic Academy in Oxford. Down then returned to Vancouver and began pursuing her craft professionally.

Down exploded onto the scene with her special blend of dark humor and offbeat beauty. She made the leap from roles in various stage productions (“Hurley Burley” “Death & The Maiden) to guest starring roles on television (“DaVinci’s Inquest” “Cold Squad”) with amazing ease. She has also had leading roles in the independent feature films “The Good Burn,” Bad Money” and “Late Night Sessions”.

Down makes her home in Vancouver with one of her family’s thirteen cats, all of who were rescued. Down is a big animal lover and has also added two dogs into the mix—Akuna and Jake. In her spare time, Alisen enjoys watching films, playing with her animals, and spending time with her friends at one of the many local coffee houses in her neighborhood. — Written by: Elena Kirschner, Lucas Talent
