From Broadway World: “LITTLE BLACK DRESS – a new play by Ronan Noone, whose play THE ATHEIST starring Campbell Scott enjoyed considerable success Off-Broadway in 2008 – will be given its New York premiere this spring Off-Broadway, with previews set to begin Sunday, May 1 prior to an official press opening on Thursday, May 5 at Theatre at St. Clement’s (423 W. 46 St.) in Manhattan. Presented by The Exchange – an Off-Broadway theatre company specializing in new work – LITTLE BLACK DRESS is directed by Ari Edelson. Featured in the cast of LITTLE BLACK DRESS are Nina Hellman, Tobias Segal, Brian J. Smith and Dan Oreskes. With hints of A DOLL’S HOUSE and Sam Shepard, LITTLE BLACK DRESS — a funny, dark and poignant look at the sacrifices one makes when one leaves behind all that is familiar — LITTLE BLACK DRESS is set in a household in rural Blue River where Amy Beaudreaux lives with her boorish husband, their slacker pot-smoking son and his buddy, a gigolo.”

Beau Bridges returns tonight in his recurring role as Nick Brody in ABC’s Brothers & Sisters at 10:01 PM ET. The episode is called “For Better or for Worse” and is summarized in this press release provided by Futon Critic: “After Sarah confronts Brody about his being her father, she decides she no longer wants him to be a part of her life or Nora’s, but Nora just can’t seem to let him go. Meanwhile, Olivia struggles with the new addition of baby Daniel to the family.”

News Flashes and Brief Follow-Ups

  • SG-1 in 'Window of Opportunity' in Season FourFranchise – With news that the Stargate franchise as we know it will end in a few weeks with the airing of SGU’s final episode “Gauntlet,” executive producer Joseph Mallozzi has begun to look back on his time with the productions, starting in Season Four of Stargate SG-1. He’s posting a series of entries dedicated to each season that he and writing partner Paul Mullie were in Vancouver, a place that they thought they would only be for a couple of years! Start reading his “Days of Stargate Past” in his April 22nd and April 23rd entries. Sadly, these reminiscent entries were sparked by the fact that they will start “de-rigging” Stage 5: “Stage 5, as you may or may not know, was home to Stargate: Universe’s Icarus base but, for many, many years before that, it held the standing sets for Stargate: SG-1: the SGC corridors, the infirmary, the control room, the briefing, Hammond’s office (later occupied by O’Neill, then Landry) and, of course, the gate room. Sad times indeed.”

Brian J. Smith Gets Lead Role in Syfy’s "Red Faction"

Brian J. SmithStargate Universe star Brian J. Smith has the leading role in Syfy’s movie adaptation of the video game Red Faction, currently filming in Bulgaria.

Smith is playing Jake Mason, and another Stargate veteran, Robert Patrick (Stargate Atlantis, Col. Marshall Sumner), is portraying his father Alec.

From Chicago Now: Show Patrol Exclusive: Brian J. Smith takes lead role in ‘Red Faction’ movie:

Twenty-five years have passed since Alec Mason (Robert Patrick) led the Martian Colonies to freedom …and 12 years since vengeful enemies killed his wife, kidnapped his daughter Lyra (Tamzin Merchant), and left a broken hero in their wake.

Jake Mason (Brian J. Smith), Alec’s last surviving son and an officer in the Red Faction Militia, has his world turned inside out when he discovers that now, 12 years after her kidnapping, his sister is still alive. As a powerful new enemy swarms across the planet, Jake goes out to find her, only to learn that his lost sister is one of them…a cold-blooded soldier sworn to destroy the Red Faction.

Jake must now battle the relentless regime and somehow reunite a family torn apart by war.

The Red Faction: Origins screenplay was written by notable writer and producer Andrew Kreisberg (Warehouse 13, Fringe, Eli Stone), based on a story developed by Paul DeMeo (The Rocketeer, The Flash, Viper), THQ Director, Fiction Development.

Follow Smith on his Twitter as he shares his experiences while filming far from home in Bulgaria.

News Flashes and Brief Follow-Ups

Jason-Momoa-GOT-Teaser3
Jason Momoa as Khal Drogo in GAME OF THRONES (HBO)
  • Jason Momoa – His Conan movie was renamed to Conan the Barbarian, but still has the same release date in the United States: August 19, 2011. For his other project, HBO’s Game of Thrones, there are some rumors going around that HBO might already be renewing the new series for a second season, even before the first has been aired. Speculation as to why this might be the case can be found at the fansite Winter Is Coming. This fansite is very active in posting the latest news on the new HBO series and this editor highly recommends it. There’s also a recent article that includes an image of Momoa as Khal Drogo entitled “MGoT update: Join the Dothraki horde.”
  • Michael Shanks, Lexa Doig, Steve Bacic – Filming has wrapped for Hangar 14. Shanks plays a bad guy, a Russian gangster named Demetrius, and Doig plays a SWAT team member along with Steve Bacic, Michael Jai White, and the movie’s star, former wrestler Steve Austin. Doig published a few pictures on her Twitter while on the set of the movie: “Me as SWAT chick” and “The Boys :).” Currently, IMDb lists Doig in her role, but not her husband Shanks! The storyline: “A training exercise for the LAPD SWAT Team goes terribly wrong when they find themselves pitted against two rival gangs while trapped in an abandoned Hangar, armed with nothing but blanks.”
  • Stargate Universe – Our Stargate Wiki now has all of the transcripts for the first half of Season Two. SGU will be returning to Syfy in the Spring, possibly early April 2011.

It should be noted that whenever spoilers come out for SGU, they are placed in the episode guides in the Stargate Wiki without much fanfare here in the News Blog. To keep on top of such updates, visit the main page of the Stargate Wiki to see the “Recent Updates” list of links.

Stargate Universe – Season 1 DVD set is being released in France today.

Last week, David Hewlett thought that maybe his first of three appearances in The CW’s new show Hellcats was going to be aired, but it turned out not to be the case. He tweeted, “Next week I guess!” We’ve checked with TV Guide for the next two episodes, and Hewlett’s name doesn’t appear attached to them, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s not in them. If he isn’t able to direct his fans via Twitter when his episodes will air, we’ll just have to keep our eyes open for him at 9 PM ET on Wednesday nights on The CW. If we do happen to miss his appearance, The CW posts full episodes online for later viewing.

News Flashes and Brief Follow-Ups

  • Gemini AwardsStargate Universe was nominated for nine Gemini Awards this year, and five of them were covered in the Industry Gala held last week. Unfortunately, none of them were taken home.
  • Michael Shanks – There was some confusion as to which Tower Prep episode Michael Shanks was to make his appearance as Professor Literature. MSOL investigated and determined that his episode, titled “Book Report”, will air November 16.
  • SG-1 and SGA Portals – Each Friday, a new feature is posted to the Portal pages. This past Friday, we worked from the keyword prompt “mutations”. From that prompt, we got into the discussion of biological warfare. Visit the SG-1 Portal to discuss “Teal’c in ‘Bane'” and the SGA Portal to discuss “Sheppard in ‘Conversion'”.

We’re in the process of trying to verify with MSOL whether or not tonight’s episode of the Cartoon Network’s Tower Prep is the one in which Michael Shanks has the role as Professor Literature. We were under the impression that the episode he appeared in was directed by Stargate alum Peter DeLuise, but the information in the IMDb record for tonight’s episode says differently. If you miss watching at 8 PM ET/PT, the show’s official website posts the episodes for later viewing online. [NOTE: MSOL has since confirmed that Michael’s episode is going to air on November 16.]

If you missed Paul McGillion in the Lifetime movie Confined, it will be repeated tonight at 8 PM ET and again at midnight. [NOTE: If you have a screencap of McGillion in this movie, we’d love to post it in his gallery for Beyond the Event Horizon (it needs to be 260×146).]
