McGillion Co-Stars in Upcoming Syfy Original Movie "Metal Monster"

Syfy LogoThe list of co-stars for this new Syfy Original Movie announced recently by Fangoria looks like a cast list for a Stargate episode!

Although the following four Saturday Original Movies don’t have set release dates, they’re all expected to debut in the first quarter of 2011. In METAL MONSTER (working title), alien bacteria arrives on a meteorite and infects metal, animating a giant iron statue that goes on a killing rampage in a small town. The movie stars Kavan Smith, Chris Gauthier, Nicole DeBoer, Paul McGillion and Donnelly Rhodes. […]

IMDb has the movie under the title Iron Golem. Which title sticks, or if Syfy comes up with a new one, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Visit Fangoria for more highlights from Syfy’s 2011 winter programming, which, no doubt, includes other past Stargate guest stars.

Paul McGillion to Star in Alien Abduction Movie "A70"

A70 PosterStargate star Paul McGillion will be starring in the film A70 that’s based on an alien encounter two men in Scotland reported experiencing in 1992.

McGillion has been confirmed by the movie’s production office to portray Garry Wood, while Lord of the Rings star Billy Boyd has been approached to portray Wood’s friend Colin Wright. From the movie’s official website:

Both men set out along the A70 road from Edinburgh to Tarbrax in Scotland, taking a satellite TV system to a friend for repair. It should have been an ordinary evening, like any other. The half hour journey itself was one they had taken several times without incident, but on that night, everything changed. Both men encountered a dark, two tiered, disk-shaped object, hovering silently, twenty feet or so above the road. Terrified, Garry accelerated the car hard. Racing to get away, they shot beneath the object expecting to get past it, but hit a shimmering light which plunged them into a black void. Seconds later they were careering along the road. Garry regained control of the car and sped away. Terrified, they continued to their friend’s house, desperate to reach safety, only to discover that the thirty minute journey had taken two hours and unable to explain their experience, they eventually found the courage to go home, using a different route. But within days and weeks both men began to suffer with horrifying nightmares, ill health, unusual scars and strange visions that slowly reveal that something far more sinister occurred that night.

An article reproduced on the movie’s Facebook stated that the movie stars “a top Scots sci-fi heartthrob” and “Paisley actor Paul McGillion.” Bob Smyth, author of the article, wrote, “Los Angeles-based Paul has plenty of sci-fi fans after starring as Dr Carson Beckett in the TV series Stargate Atlantis. He was so popular fans launched a protest to stop his character being killed off.”

An interview with Malcolm Robinson (story) and Dionne Rose (producer) can be found in the current issue of UFO Matrix magazine, which is on sale now in the UK.

Principal photography is due to commence in February. To keep up with the movie’s production, visit http://www.a70themovie.com to find links to Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and other platforms.

Reminder: Paul McGillion Returns to "Sanctuary" Tonight (Oct. 15)

Sanctuary
Paul McGillion returns as Terrence Wexford in KALI III, the third season premiere of SANCTUARY. (Carole Segal/Syfy)
Amanda Tapping‘s Sanctuary returns with its third season tonight in Canada (Space, 9 PM ET) and the United States (Syfy, 10 PM ET) with “Kali III”, and Stargate star Paul McGillion is guest starring in his recurring role as Terrence Wexford!

“Kali III” picks up where the previous season left off as “two ships are wrecked and a tidal wave races toward the coast of Mumbai, India, following Wexford’s attempt to kill Big Bertha. When Wexford tries to kill the creature again, Magnus risks her life to intervene…” (TV Guide).

After tonight’s conclusion, where will the new season be taking its viewers? Tapping teased a little about the show’s direction in a recent interview, “Because we have a 20-episode pickup, we have the luxury of doing really big story arcs this year, which is very exciting. So we have two major threads that we’re pursuing throughout this season: one dealing with Helen’s past a bit more, and one that is something that’s much bigger than Big Bertha.”

McGillion told his fans that he’ll be back in next week’s episode (“Firewall”) as well. “I returned to Sanctuary, and my character of Terrence Wexford comes back and opens up the first two episodes of the third season. He’s especially prevalent in the second episode, and some very dramatic stuff happens onboard the ship. The lizard is back and in full force and he’s got a lot of attitude. Terrence isn’t a very nice man and he’s got his problems. I think the word is ‘power-hungry.’

“So it was great to be back and working with Amanda Tapping (Dr. Helen Magnus) and (executive producer) Martin Wood, who directed the episode. A lot of familiar faces from Stargate work on the show, too, so it was a real blast to be back and reprise my Wexford character. Again, we’ll see where it goes from there.”
