''The official summary is not yet available as this episode has yet to air in the United States.''
When Nerus, a minor Goa'uld, requests an alliance with Earth, Gen. Landry and SG-1 don't need Vala to warn them that Nerus can't be trusted. Vala warns them anyway, but Landry decides to risk inviting Nerus to Stargate Command.

== Episode Spoilers ==
Nerus explains that a mysterious force field has appeared on the planet Kallana. The field surrounds Kallana's Stargate and periodically increases in size. Worse, the Stargate hasn't shut down for two days, which violates all known laws of physics. Worst of all, there's a Prior of the Ori on the scene. The team is forced to agree with Nerus's frightening conclusion: The Ori must be establishing a beachhead from which to launch their invasion of our galaxy.

'''Note:''' Latest updates are in color.
Landry orders Mitchell and his team to use any means necessary to stop the Ori. To that end, he sends along the military's latest superweapon, the Mark IX "Gatebuster" naquadria-enhanced nuclear warhead. He also sends the Mark IX's designer: Lt. Col. Samantha Carter. SG-1's pleasure at working together again is tarnished only slightly by Vala tagging along. Her life is still linked to Daniel's, but now, in the presence of the full SG-1 team, even she can tell that she's just a fifth wheel.

The following is a collection of spoilers gathered from various sources. Keep in mind that these interpretations are subject to change.
SG-1 travels aboard the ''Prometheus'' to Kallana, where the force field has grown so large that it's visible from orbit. Mitchell, Daniel, Teal'c, and Vala manage to transport down to the planet's surface with the Mark IX. They try to negotiate with the Prior, but even the threat of imminent nuclear vaporization doesn't budge him.

Lt. Col. Samantha Carter returns to the SGC: "She just walks in the door. She’s been looking after Area 51 and she’s been looking after a little personal commitment." The adventure for the team includes "a big Space Opera battle thing with some Goa'uld thrown in there for good measure." — Robert C. Cooper, Producer.
Suddenly, a bombardment of energy weapons rains down from above. Gerak, the leader of the free Jaffa, has learned of the Ori incursion and demands to take matters into his own hands. At the same time, the force field expands again. Out of options, Mitchell arms the bomb and transports his team back to ''Prometheus''.

"In Beachhead, Carter will barely have time to unpack before she's at the frontline, doing what she does best - working on a way to help save the day." — Joseph Mallozzi in his Q&A thread at GateWorld.
Humans and Jaffa alike brace for impact as the Mark IX detonates below. As the shockwave dissipates, they are stunned to discover that the force field has only gotten bigger. Soon it will engulf the entire planet, and they have no idea what will happen next.

"One of the reasons Sam took some "time off" was to deal with some of the events of last season. She'll return with a clearer mind, ready to resume her duties." — Joseph Mallozzi in his Q&A thread at GateWorld.
Even after Carter uncovers the true enormity of the Ori scheme, SG-1 is at a loss to stop it. Unexpectedly, only Vala guesses what must be done. And, even more unexpectedly, she finds the courage to do it....

Some members of the team are wearing spacesuits on the planet visited in this episode. SG-1 has worn spacesuits when venturing out into outer space and when visiting a planet which has a toxic or unbreathable atmosphere.

According to spoilers on Stargate Project and GateWorld, Carter is brought back to the SGC in order to detonate a device/weapon she developed while at Area 51. This detonation is to destroy a force field placed on a planet of Free Jaffa by one of the Priors of the Ori. The weapon was to be used when negotiations failed. The problem is, instead of destroying the force field, the detonation makes it worse. While discussion on the next move is ongoing, Vala decides to act. She devises a plan, but it might mean that she'll make the ultimate sacrifice to carry it out.

Because these spoilers imply that Vala might very well be making the ultimate sacrifice to save a world, the question remains as to whether or not the character will ever be seen after this episode. In an exclusive interview with Executive Producer Joseph Mallozzi conducted by Marla R. Reed entitled "The Best of Both Stargates", a question was raised concerning the return of Vala. Mallozzi's response was, "This is science fiction. No one is gone forever. Just check out Ripple Effect."

As far as Vala’s returning for additional episodes after her first six, “The window isn’t closed on Vala. That’s for sure. It really depends on if I’m available, and they can get what they want [storywise]. It’s a nice position to be in, to be in love with a character you’ve played, who may live on again, who you want to go back to. I’ll leave you with the image of the australian coat of arm, which has the kangaroo and emu on either side, two animals that are incapable of walking backwards. I as an actor am incapable of going backwards. It’s been an interesting challenge first on ”PK Wars" [to go back to Aeryn], it’s nice to know Vala could [come back as well.]" — Claudia Black in a Chicago Tribune interview.

"As for Beachhead — Maury Chaykin really tears it up as the goa'uld Nerus." — Joseph Mallozzi in his GateWorld Blog.

Quotes from program producers in the recent ''TV Zone Special #64'' (featuring ''Stargate SG-1'' on its cover) reveal additional information about this episode. A Prior of the Ori comes through the Stargate to a Free Jaffa's planet (thus explaining Gerak's involvement). The Jaffa attack the Prior and he uses a defense energy field that not only repels them, but creates a bubble around the Stargate. The force field feeds on energy and thus grows bigger when Carter's weapon is used, soon enveloping the entire planet. The Ori plan to use this energy bubble to create a planet-sized Stargate through which they will launch an invasion force of spaceships (thus the title, "Beachhead", which is "a small area on an enemy-held shore occupied in the initial stages of an invasion" (© 2000 Zane Publishing, Inc. and Merriam-Webster, Incorporated. All rights reserved)). This also explains the recent statement in the July 10th issue of ''TV Guide'', where the reviewer, Ileane Rudolph, describes the Ori as "a villanous race so powerful it has its own planet-sized stargate portal."

Gen. Landry recalls Carter from Area 51 in the hope her new weapon will destroy a force field placed on a Free Jaffa planet by the Ori. Peaceful negotiations fail and the weapon is used, but instead of destroying the force field, it enhances it, and soon, the entire planet is threatened. The problem can be solved, but it might require someone to make the ultimate sacrifice.
