Garshaw of Belote

Summary

Garshaw of Belote was one of the most hunted Goa'uld of all time and the reason became clear it was because she was of the Tok'ra. She was introduced in the episode, 2.11 "The Tok'ra Part 1".

Character Biography

After Samantha Carter had been taken as the unwilling host of the symbiote Jolinar of Malkshur and Jolinar gave its life to save Carter's, Carter began to have visions of her life as a Goa'uld. The fact was that Carter was recalling actual memories of Jolinar's life as a Tok'ra, a group of Goa'uld who opposed the System Lords. With her recalled memories, Carter helped the SGC make first contact with the Tok'ra on their hidden base. Upon arrival, they were introduced to Grand Councel Garshaw of Belote, hosted by the human named Yasuuf.

Garshaw and Yasuuf explained that they were Tok'ra and different from the Goa'uld. Garshaw, according to Teal'c, was the most hunted Goa'uld of all time. Garshaw insisted on not being called a Goa'uld, even though she was of the same species. Garshaw explained to SG-1 that the Tok'ra were different; they took willing hosts who sought a true mutually-beneficial blending. Tok'ra means against Ra and was founded by the Goa'uld Egeria (4.04 "Crossroads"). The current group of Tok'ra were all decended from Egeria and are limited in number because of it.

Yasuuf explained why she was a willing host to prove that she had an equal relationship in the blending. Yasuuf said that she was free to speak her mind and that she gained knowledge, wisdom, and a doubled lifespan. She introduced SG-1 to Selmak, the Tok'ra symbiote who needed a new host because the woman who was currently its host, Saroosh, was dying (at approximately 203 years old). Yasuuf was under the impression that SG-1 was wanting to form an alliance with the Tok'ra by volunteering to become hosts to their limited numbers.

After SG-1 said that they did not contact them to become hosts, Garshaw saw no reason to form an alliance with the Tau'ri, since Tau'ri technology was of no use to them. After she found out what had happened to the Tok'ra operatives who were aboard Apophis' ships when they were destroyed by SG-1 (2.01 "The Serpent's Lair Part 2"), she was grateful and decided to bring up their request for an alliance with the Tok'ra High Council. The High Council, however, did not see how an alliance with the Tau'ri would be beneficial because of the way that the Tok'ra infiltrated the ranks of the Goa'uld System Lords and because SG-1 did not want to become hosts. Since they did not want their secret base to be discovered, the Tok'ra High Council decided to keep SG-1 at the base until they decided to move. While SG-1 was there, Jack discovered a traitor in their midst who was using a Goa'uld long range visual communications device to relay the Tok'ra's location. Garshaw/Yasuuf was very grateful for his discovering the traitor and her attitude softened somewhat toward the Tau'ri.

Garshaw and Teal'c established a respectful relationship, both admiring the courage of the other in fighting the Goa'uld.

Carter offered her father, Jacob Carter, as a host to Selmak. Jacob was on his deathbed from cancer and Carter gave him this option, which he accepted, trusting his daughter implicitly. This gesture helped to forge the alliance between the Tau'ri and Tok'ra. After the Tok'ra were successfully evacuated from their base, Daniel gave Garshaw a Sagan Institute box so that the Tok'ra could make contact with the SGC whenever they needed to.

Garshaw has not been mentioned since this meeting took place and her current status is unknown.
