Goa'uld Klorel

Summary

Klorel is the Goa'uld symbiote that was implanted in Skaara of Abydos, but was removed after the Tollan conducted a Triad to determine who should have control over Skaara's body.

Character Biography

About a year after Dr. Daniel Jackson opened the Stargate, the Goa'uld System Lord Apophis attacked Stargate Command and kidnapped a female sergeant. He was looking for new hosts for several symbiotes that were ready for blending, including one for his queen, Amaunet, and his son, Klorel. Not stopping after finding the potential vessel for his queen from Earth, Apophis continued to visit planets formerly in Ra's domain, including Abydos, the planet to which Dr. Daniel Jackson and Col. Jack O'Neill had first traveled once Daniel discovered the Stargate's use and on which Ra died by their hands. (Stargate: The Movie, 1.01 "Children of the Gods Part 1")

It just so happened that O'Neill and his team were visiting Abydos at the time Apophis attacked the planet. Apophis saw Daniel's beautiful Abydonian wife, Sha're, and her brother, Skaara, and decided that they both would make suitable hosts for his family. Only Maj. Ferretti saw the Stargate address Apophis used to make his escape, and once he was awake from the severe injuries he sustained in the attack, he provided the glyphs he had seen on the Abydos DHD. (1.01 "Children of the Gods Part 1", 1.02 "Children of the Gods Part 2")

Two teams went to this planet, later identified as Chulak, to rescue Sha're and Skaara, as well as gather intel on the aliens who had attacked their world. Daniel, O'Neill, and Carter were captured and placed in a prison where they were reunited with Skaara. Sha're had been separated from the group and placed in a harem of beautiful women, and she was eventually selected as Amaunet's new host. (1.02 "Children of the Gods Part 2")

Skaara and the Earthlings were forced to bow once Apophis and his court entered the prison to select additional hosts. Skaara was quickly chosen, even though Daniel offered himself so that he could be with Sha're. Skaara struggled as he was removed from the prison, his Earth friends unable to protect him. After O'Neill recruited Apophis' First Prime Teal'c to help them make their escape, Apophis and his court began leaving the planet through the Stargate. O'Neill tried to call out to Skaara, but he was met by Klorel who used his ribbon device to throw him back to prevent his approach. Klorel and his party left through the Stargate without O'Neill's being able to see the destination address on the DHD. (1.02 "Children of the Gods Part 2")

Nearly a year later, Klorel and Apophis were on their way to attack Earth in two powerful motherships, called ha'taks. SG-1 gained access to one of these ships by using the Stargate (Apophis was actually carrying the Stargate on one of his ships and once the ship entered hyperspace, the address for that Stargate became invalid). O'Neill attempted to get through to Skaara by zatting him, but the effects didn't last long, and Klorel quickly regained control. Eventually, O'Neill had to shoot Skaara/Klorel in order to save Daniel who was being killed by Klorel with the ribbon device. Klorel's Jaffa placed him in the sarcophagus to revive him, but he told his father Apophis that his host was strong and he was still rather weak from the attack. Apophis denied that his son could have this weakness, but Klorel was telling him the truth. Skaara continued to exert his will on Klorel, but Klorel eventually overcame him. (1.22 "Within the Serpent's Grasp Part 1", 2.01 "The Serpent's Lair Part 2")

SG-1 succeeded in placing the two motherships on a collision course with each other, and Apophis and Klorel escaped through the Stargate before the ships exploded. Rumors of their demise reached some of their planets, and Apophis' status among the System Lords was weakened. He became Sokar's captive, but eventually gained Sokar's domain upon Sokar's death. Klorel's whereabouts, however, were not known until he crashed on Tollana, the homeworld of Earth's ally, the Tollan, in an attempt to flee from an attack by two of Heru'ur's motherships. Klorel knew that the Tollan had the advanced technology that would destroy those two motherships once they entered Tollana's defense grid. (2.01 "The Serpent's Lair Part 2", 2.08 "Family", 2.17 "Serpent's Song", 3.13 "The Devil You Know Part 2", 3.15 "Pretense")

Once the Tollan reached the crash site, Skaara regained control through his injuries long enough to request that he be freed from Klorel. The Tollan called on O'Neill and Daniel to represent Skaara in the Triad, a hearing wherein Skaara's fate would be determined. The Goa'uld Zipacna was called to represent Klorel's interests, and the Nox Lya was called in as an unbiased third party. The Tollan placed a device on Skaara that would mask out Klorel so that Skaara could speak freely. Klorel was given his chance to speak as well, the device glowing red to let the court know that he was the speaker. (3.15 "Pretense")

Zipacna's case was built upon the nature of the Goa'uld and their method of survival. The Goa'uld do not recognize humans as equals, likening them instead to the animals that humans use for food and for other needs of daily life. Eventually, however, Lya decided in favor of Skaara, and the Tok'ra were called in to remove Klorel from his host. The removal process went smoothly, and Skaara appeared to be unshaken by the time he had been in Klorel's control. Klorel was taken to a Goa'uld-controlled planet where he was to obtain a new host, but his current status is unknown. (3.15 "Pretense")
