Geopolitical Structure and History

P3X-797 has a unique planetary feature that apparently one half of the planet stays within daylight, and half of it stays in darkness. The Stargate is on the dark side of the planet. Both sides are fertile with vegetation. However, the plants on the Land of Light side have a type of antihistimine. This is of great benefit to the human population on the planet.

There is a microbe that infects the human population, feeding on histimine. Those who have taken the natural antihistimine in their diet remain unaffected because the microbe is starved out of their body. Those on the dark side of the planet become infected. The microbe causes a radical reworking of the human brain, turning them to a more primitive state. Aggression is one of the first symptoms.

The People of the Land of Light are not technologically advanced. Only a little more than a generation has passed since the Goa'uld occupation. They refer to the infection that plagues them as "the Touched" and believe it is a curse created by evil gods they call Heelk'sha. Once exposed, a person is sequestered. If their exposure was long enough to become infected, they were banished to the dark side of the planet.

SG-1 and SG-3 went on a reconnaissance mission to the planet, looking for the Goa'uld. They were able to get a partial address when the Goa'uld left Chulak, and this was the only on the Cartouche that fit. There was no Goa'uld, but while there, they unwittingly exposing themselves to the disease before meeting up with the Light side population, known as the Untouched. They infected the SGC base upon their return. The only ones uninfected were Teal'c with his symbiote and Janet Fraiser and Daniel Jackson, who both took antihistamines for severe allergies. Before Dr. Fraiser made this connection, Teal'c and Daniel returned to the planet to try and get blood samples from the uninfected to help Janet uncover the mystery of the disease. Daniel was captured by the Touched, but Teal'c was able to extract a blood sample from an Untouched guard.

A cured SG-1 and SG-3 returned to the planet, rescuing the now infected Daniel Jackson and providing a cure to the rest of the population. The people of the Land of Light were extremely grateful.

The SGC continued their relationship with the people of P3X-797. Their leader, Tuplo visited the SGC to welcome the Tollan to their world after the Tollan homeworld was destroyed (1.17 "Enigma"). The Tollan leader rejected the world as too primitive.

After Teal'c's wife and son became endangered on Chulak, they were given refuge for some time among the people of the Land of Light (2.08 "Family"). When SG-1 had some down time, Teal'c would visit them there.
