Nerus

Summary

Nerus was a Goa'uld who served under the former System Lord Ba'al as a technical advisor. After the fall of the Goa'uld, he sided with the Ori for a time, but returned to Ba'al, only to be killed by him (or, more specifically, one of Ba'al's clones) for his incompetence and apparent lack of loyalty. Character Biography

Nerus enjoyed eating fine foods and drinking rare wines. He also had a talent for understanding and inventing technology which helped advance Ba'al. According to Nerus, he was the one who figured out how to dial all of the Stargates in the galaxy simultaneously. Because of this, he felt that he should be accepted by the Tau'ri because he was one of those who helped to defeat the Replicators. He also appeared to admire Teal'c for starting the Jaffa Rebellion and Daniel for allegedly single-handedly defeating Anubis. (7.09 "Avenger 2.0", 8.17 "Reckoning Part 2", 9.06 "Beachhead")

Nerus contacted the SGC to tell them of the threat the Ori posed to the galaxy through their building of a force field around the Stargate on a Free Jaffa planet named Kallana. The Ori Prior was the only person standing inside this force field and it was believed that the Ori were planning to send troops through the Stargate to establish a foothold. The force field, it was originally thought, was being used to shelter the army as they assembled under its protection. (9.06 "Beachhead")

Unaware of Nerus's tie to the Ori, Gen. Landry accepted Nerus's offer to help them defeat the Ori on this planet. Nerus led him to believe that he could find the weaknesses in the force field which would ensure the Tau'ri's victory. But, unfortunately, Nerus was setting the SGC up to use the biggest nuclear weapon on Earth, a naquadria-enhanced nuclear bomb nicknamed the "Gatebuster", against the force field, knowing that its use would add power to the force field and not destroy it. The force field was actually meant to envelop the planet and then cause its collapse into a singularity which would power a Super Stargate through which the Ori could sent their ships. Once Landry discovered that Nerus was working for the Ori who had promised him ascension upon his death, he sent Nerus to Area 51 with the condition that he help them find a way to defeat the Ori or go hungry. (9.06 "Beachhead")

When Ba'al was suspected of stealing Stargates and DHDs from planets in a far region of the galaxy, Landry immediately thought about Nerus and his history with Ba'al. Landry traded a feast for information, but all the while, didn't trust anything that Nerus said. Instead, he used Nerus to get to Ba'al by tagging Nerus with a tracking device. Nerus was thrilled to take his two cases of cupcakes and other electronic devices with him to intercept Ba'al's ha'tak. Unknown to him, his technology was infected with a computer virus which he inadvertently transferred into Ba'al's ship's systems, rendering the ship defenseless. This gave the Odyssey opportunity to beam SG-1 onboard the ha'tak to tag all of the stolen Stargates and DHDs so that they could be beamed onto Earth's ship. Ba'al (his clone, actually) lost patience with Nerus and killed him with a staff weapon. SG-1 succeeded in tagging all of the stolen items, except for one Stargate which they used to escape as Ba'al's ship was destroyed by ships from the Lucian Alliance who had tracked down their missing Stargate.
