Geopolitical Structure and History

P34-353J was a desert planet with no visible structures or foliage on its surface. Underground, the Tok'ra established a network of caverns where they lived and carried out their secret plans against the Goa'uld. Aside from the Tok'ra, the planet was apparently uninhabited.

Samantha Carter, still haunted by memories from the brief period she was host to the Tok'ra Jolinar, had a flashback dream in which she remembered the Tok'ra evacuating a base to go to a new location–she remembered the gate address to P34-353J (2.11 "The Tok'ra Part 1"). SG-1 went on the mission to try and contact the Tok'ra and develop an alliance with these purported enemies of the Goa'uld.

The groups were at first wary of each other, but Samantha's memories of Jolinar were enough for the the Tok'ra to permit SG-1 into their cavern base. They were given a brief tour. Teal'c had never witnessed Tok'ra caverns before and exclaimed upon their creation the Goa'uld language equivalent of "very cool." O'Neill noted one of the Tok'ra, Cordesh, was using a small round object, similar in shape and color to the larger communication device O'Neill had seen on Apophis's ship. He also learned that the Tok'ra caverns had no doors, because the Tok'ra had no secrets from each other.

Samantha Carter felt a closer connection to Martouf than to some of the other Tok'ra. He brought her to the surface to speak in private. She learned that Jolinar normally stayed in a female host, and further, that she and her host were mate to Martouf and his symbiote Lantash.

SG-1 met with one of the leaders of the Tok'ra, Garshaw. Negotiations got off to a rocky start inasmuch as the Tok'ra viewed humans as inferior technologically and in what information they could provide, their only thought of an alliance with the Tau'ri would be as potential hosts. They noticed SG-1's repulsion to that idea, and SG-1 was still suspicious of the Goa'uld nature of the Tok'ra and how they seemed to be treated more as prisoners than as diplomats.

Later, talks broke down between the two sides completely when SG-3 arrived to extract Captain Carter due to her father's imminent death from cancer. The Tok'ra decided to hold both teams prisoner until they could leave for a new base. Carter convinced the Tok'ra to allow her and O'Neill to return to Earth in the hopes that they may have a host to save the dying symbiote Selmak. The Tok'ra would be able to cure Jacob Carter's cancer.

In the meantime, it turned out the device O'Neill saw Cordesh with was a Goa'uld communication device. He had been a spy for the system lords and revealed the Tok'ra base to the Goa'uld. By the time O'Neill and the two Carters returned to P34-353J, they discovered the Tok'ra were abandoning the base. The remaining members of SG-1 and SG-3 were helping the Tok'ra. O'Neill revealed Cordesh to be the spy in their midst when he learned the Tok'ra did not use such devices as they were not secure.

Many of the Tok'ra evacuated; some remaining to destroy the existing tunnels. Samantha Carter and Martouf remained with Saroosh and Jacob Carter while the transfer and recovery of Selmak took place. After Jacob/Selmak's recovery, they were able to escape through the Stargate along with Garshaw and the rest of SG-1 to Earth. From there, Garshaw was able to dial the new unknown Tok'ra base. She wished to arrive immediately, since it was possible the spy had transmitted the new coordinates to the Goa'uld.
