In an alternate timeline, SG-1 visited P4C-970 on a routine reconnaissance mission.  They met the Aschen.  The Aschen and Earth entered into an alliance, Earth becoming part of the Aschen Confederation, the Aschen defeating the Goa'uld.  The Aschen also offered fantastic medical advances, including an ability to double the human lifespan.

It was only ten years later that SG-1 discovered the cost.  This "medicine" had the side effect of sterility of the human population.  The Aschen were merely patient conquerors.  Anyone who had realized this before hand, like General Hammond, were killed.

The Aschen were conducting research on turning Jupiter into a second sun.  Samantha Carter had been working with them.  She used her access to their computers to determine when a solar flare would occur.  With this knowledge, her team planned to send a note back in time through the now Aschen controlled Earth Stargate.  All were killed in the attempt, but they were successful.  O'Neill's note saying under no circumstances go to P4C-970, covered in his blood, made it through.  Hammond ordered the address locked out from the dialing computer.

Several months to a year later, SG-1 visited P3A-194.  The native Volians introduced them to the Aschen.  SG-1 was excited to meet such an advanced species like the Aschen.  Since the Aschen had no directory of Stargates, such as the Abydos Cartouche, nor any DHD, they were dependant on random dialing and could not compensate for stellar drift.  Therefore the only planets within the Aschen confederation were those within 300 light years of their homeworld.

Using this knowledge as a guide, the SGC was able to narrow the field down to five planets in proximity to P3A-194 as the homeworld of their new potential allies.  One could not sustain life, and one was P4C-970&mdash;the planet locked out of the SGC dialing computer on General Hammond's orders after they had received O'Neill's cryptic note.

Hammond attempted to send teams to the other three planets, but was forestalled by his superiors.  However, SG-1 was able to determine P4C-970 was likely the Aschen's homeworld based on their own investigation on P3A-194.  They broke off contact with the Aschen before Earth could be put into any danger.
