Summary

P7X-377 is home to Quetzelcoatl and the other "Giant Aliens". They live in a different dimension virtually undetectable from this one. A crystal skull in their temple is an interdimensional and teleportation device that allows humans to shift from this dimension to Quetzelcoatl's. Once the aliens determined the visitors from Earth were also enemies of the Goa'uld, they agreed to an exchange of cultures. Dr. Nicholas Ballard remained as liaison between Earth and the inhabitants of P7X-377. The planet was visited in the episode 3.21 "Crystal Skull".

Geopolitical Structure and History

P7X-377 is a planet inhabited by Giant Aliens who appear as a mist and exist in an alternate dimension. A large Mayan style pyramid temple was built over 1,000 meters high in close proximity to the Stargate. Daniel Jackson later surmised that every pyramid on Earth could fit inside the temple based on its height and depth. Inside the temple was a narrow pathway that led to a platform containing a crystal skull. On either side of the narrow path was a large chasm full of stalagmites from which the aliens entered and exited. The Giant Aliens knew of the Goa'uld and considered them enemies, but no details were ever given of their encounters.

The planet was first visited in 1971 by the archeologist Dr. Nicholas Ballard. He was exploring a temple in Belize, Central America. Inside the temple, he found a crystal skull. Looking into the skull's eyes, he was teleported to PX7-377, where he was greeted by the Giant Aliens, who appeared to be made of mist and flew around him like spectres. They greeted him with the Mayan expression: "Oo ya waaling waaling wey tayil, which means: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." Ballard was too frightened by the experience to respond and closed his eyes. When he opened them, he found himself back in Belize with the temple collapsing around him. He grabbed the skull and fled before the temple was completely destroyed. Although he made numerous attempts, he was never able to find the temple ruins again. When he shared his experience, the academic community laughed at him. Not even his grandson, Daniel Jackson, could believe the outrageous tale. Eventually Ballard suffered a nervous collapse and admitted himself to a psychiatric institution in Oregon.

Thirty years later, the SGC explored the planet, noting a breathable atmosphere but no complex life signs using the MALP. The MALP entered the pyramid, and SG-1 could see through the camera the chasm filled with stalagmites that fascinated Major Carter. She also became excited at readings of a number of leptons, which slowed down the movement of neutrinos (the leptons and resulting muon radiation were actually the only observable readings of the alternate dimension where the Giant Aliens lived). Through the camera image, Daniel Jackson spotted the twin to the crystal skull discovered by his grandfather over 30 years before. SG-1 returned to the planet.

Once there, Daniel was drawn to the podium and the crystal skull. He stared into its eyes. Carter observed the muon radiation caused by the leptons was spiking. The team saw the skull as the source and Teal'c fired his zat at it, which interrupted the transportation to another dimension. Daniel ended up out of phase and unconscious. The others became ill from the intense muon radiation and barely escaped alive. To their view, Daniel had completely disappeared. Based on Ballard's experiences, they assumed he had been teleported elsewhere in space, rather than into a completely different dimension.

Teal'c later returned to the planet to retrieve the crystal skull, hoping it would provide some clue as to Daniel Jackson's whereabouts. His symbiote helped protect him from exposure to the radiation, which was still at increased levels. Daniel recovered consciousness around the time of Teal'c's return. Discomfited by the fact that Teal'c not only was unaware of his presence, but that the Jaffa was able to pass right through his body, Dr. Jackson followed Teal'c back to the SGC.

Eventually SG-1 contacted Dr. Nicholas Ballard. Unbeknownst to everyone, Nick was able to see Daniel, but thought his grandson was merely a hallucination. Eventually Daniel figured out he could communicate through Nick and with his grandfather's help, convinced Hammond and his team they should return to the planet. Ballard took advantage of this opportunity to satisfy his lifelong quest and tagged along to the expedition.

After returning to the temple, they replaced the skull and Daniel once again stared into its eyes. This time the transfer to the alternate dimension was completed, and everyone but Teal'c phased into the Giant Aliens realm. Teal'c was not transported with the others, and Hammond ordered him to return to the SGC. Once the Jaffa had departed, the Giant Aliens appeared to Ballard and the rest of SG-1. He introduced himself as Quetzalcoatl and repeated the Mayan greeting: "Oo ya waaling waaling wey tayil. Daniel Jackson realized since Teal'c was not transported, the Giant Aliens must view the Goa'uld as enemies, and responded: "We are enemies of the Goa'uld." Quetzalcoatl welcomed them and accepted Daniel's proposition of exchanging knowledge and culture. The alien requested Ballard remain, recognizing the archeologist from his first visit to the planet. Ballard jumped at the chance to fulfill his life's work. Reluctantly, Daniel agreed, insisting his grandfather tell him everything later.
