Geopolitical Structure and History

Ravanna was a forested world. Underground, the Tok'ra established a network of caverns where they conducted scientific experiments, including keeping the zatarc victim Lantash and developed the symbiote poison (5.15 "Summit Part 1"). Aside from the Tok'ra, the planet was apparently uninhabited.

After Lantash/Martouf was killed trying to assassinate the U.S. President while brainwashed as a zatarc, their bodies were eventually brought to Ravanna. Here Lantash was able to be revived and maintained in stasis, but they could not save both symbiote and host and Martouf died. Additionally, the Tok'ra's research on their final solution to the Goa'uld bore fruit–an aerosol poison able to kill any symbiotes within the disbursal area. When Tok'ra intelligence learned all the system lords were scheduled for a summit at a space station in the Hassara System, they decided this was the time to strike.

Knowing only unarmed system lords and their one lo'taurs would be allowed at the Summit, the Tok'ra approached the SGC to ask Daniel Jackson to act as Yu's lo'taur to infiltrate the summit and disburse the poison. It was harmless to humans (although Goa'uld hosts and Jaffa would die from the symbiotes' natural toxins). While Jacob Carter/Selmak and Daniel Jackson infiltrated the system lords, the rest of SG-1 and the members of SG-17 remained on Ravanna.

The Tok'ra Aldwin gave a tour, explaining some of the Tok'ra technology, including the crystals. In the meantime, a Tok'ra scientist named Ren Au shocked Maj. Carter by explaining Lantash's condition. Unbeknownst to the Tok'ra or SG teams, the Goa'uld Anubis had learned of the base on Ravanna. He sent Zipacna there to destroy the Tok'ra as a means to get into the system lords' good graces and rejoin them. Zipacna attacked Ravanna, destroying many tunnels in an aerial bombardment. The Tok'ra countered the attack by creating more tunnels to confuse Jaffa as to their true location.

Teal'c and O'Neill went with Aldwin to check on the Stargate, and found al'kesh and troop transports landing. Aldwin was killed by Zipacna's forces during the trio's retreat to the tunnels. All of SG-17 were killed during the attack and some tunnel collapses, except for Lt. Elliot. He ended up severely injured in the same room where Lantash was kept. The equipment was destroyed and Ren Au was killed. Lantash in desperation entered Elliot as a host. Ren Au's dying instructions to Maj. Carter were to keep the poison formula out of Goa'uld hands.

Carter with the wounded Elliot/Lantash were trapped in a cave-in. Lantash revealed to Sam that it was not only Martouf that had feelings for her. He also explained that he and Elliot were both too weak for either to survive. O'Neill and Teal'c were able to use salvaged tunnel crystals to reach the pair and they made their way out of the tunnels (5.16 "Last Stand Part 2"). The base was overrun with Jaffa and any other Tok'ra not killed had fled. Automatic alerts were sent out in locations equidistant to the Stargate warning any others to stay away. They were trapped unless they could change the beacon to alert anyone they were still there.

They made it to one of the beacons and were able to insert an S.O.S. message. Jacob Carter and Daniel Jackson, returning from their aborted mission, received the distress call, but their tel'tak was shot down as they tried to reach the others. They were now all stranded and cut off from the Stargate by the enemy. The mortally wounded Lantash/Elliot offered to use Daniel Jackson's unused vial of the poison in a suicide mission, releasing it by the Stargate to clear the path for the others to escape.

Later, when Earth was threatened by an asteroid and their allies were unable to be reached/help, SG-1 remembered the crashed tel'tak on Ravanna (5.17 "Fail Safe"). The team went there with engineers to salvage the ship and use it to deliver a bomb to the asteroid, blowing it up before it reached Earth's atmosphere. The engineering team, who were the same men who had designed the X-301 bomber, worked with Major Carter and Teal'c to fix the ship. The engineers left for the Alpha Site while SG-1 used the barely operable hyperdrive to fly the tel'tak away from Ravanna and back to Earth.
