TEASER

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Brody, Volker and Park are sitting at control stations around the front of the bridge. There is an alarm sounding at one of the control stations. Rush enters and looks around.]

RUSH
Where's Eli?

VOLKER
He hasn't shown yet.

[Rush takes out his radio.]

RUSH

(into radio)

Eli, where are you?

[There is no response. Park's console continues to sound an alarm.]

RUSH

(into radio)

Eli, you're needed on the bridge.

[Rush puts away the radio and goes to Park's station, sighing in frustration. He leans past her and operates her console. The alarm stops, and he goes to sit in the command chair.]

PARK
Thanks. I'm not sure what happened there. I think I must have—

RUSH
Yeah, yeah, very interesting.

[Just as Rush puts his notepad on his console and prepares to work, the lights on the bridge go out.]

VOLKER
Oops!

RUSH
Mister Volker?

VOLKER
Sorry, I was running a diagnostic on the ship's power distribution network and I think—

RUSH
Did you remember to bypass the critical systems?

VOLKER
Ah…no.

[As Rush gets up to go to Volker's station, Volker fixes the problem and the lights come back on.]

VOLKER
There we go.

[Rush returns to his seat and picks up his pencil to work, but is interrupted again.]

BRODY
This is interesting. Looks like Destiny picked up some sort of remote energy signature.

RUSH
Mister Brody, please don't make me come over there.

[Brody swings around in his seat to face Rush.]

BRODY
Why don't you be my guest?

[Volker and Park look over as Brody vacates his seat. Rush comes over and looks at his console.]

PARK
So?

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[Destiny flies slowly at sublight speed.]

YOUNG

(voice)

What do you mean, "distant"?

INT—BRIDGE

[Young and Rush are standing on either side of the command chair consoles, having a conversation that includes Brody, Volker and Park, who are still seated at their stations.]

YOUNG
We're on a spaceship in the middle of nowhere. From where I am sitting, everything is distant.

RUSH
This energy signature, it's come from an area outside of the course mapped out for us by the seed ships. Now, getting there would take a bit of a detour.

YOUNG
How much of a detour?

RUSH
About a day's journey in FTL.

YOUNG
Well, do we have any guesses what it could be?

PARK
It could be a potential new power source, signs of intelligent life.

ELI
A big black monolith orbiting a planet.

[Young looks around to see Eli leaning on a pillar.]

ELI
Sorry, overslept.

RUSH
There's no way of telling, which is precisely why we should investigate.

BRODY
Whoa, whoa, what ever happened to, ah, "Destiny has a mission and we're all on board and moving forward"? This isn't forward, this is sideways.

RUSH
We haven't abandoned the mission, mister Brody, merely delaying it.

VOLKER
Um, but Lisa's right. This energy signature could be indicative of intelligent life.

RUSH
Best case scenario, in my opinion.

VOLKER

(shocked)

For real?

[Rush nods.]

VOLKER

(gesturing to the others on each point)

Do I have to remind everyone what happened the last time we encountered an alien life form? Or the time before that? Or the time before that?

PARK
Yeah, but you can't judge a neighborhood by a bunch of bad neighbors.

VOLKER
Are you kidding? That's exactly how you judge a neighborhood.

RUSH
Look, it's possible that whatever's out there could be of great benefit to both ourselves and Destiny's mission.

[Rush raises his eyebrows at Young.]

YOUNG
Okay. Check it out.

[Young turns and leaves the bridge.]

RUSH
Let's plot a new course.

[Volker spins on his chair to face his console, looks slightly baffled, sighs, then turns back to Rush, but avoids his gaze.]

VOLKER
How do you do that?

RUSH
Okay, let's get Chloe up here. She can make the necessary calculations.

EXT—DESTINY IN FTL

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE ELI'S QUARTERS

[Rush arrives at Eli's door and knocks.]

INT—ELI'S QUARTERS

[Eli is lying on his bunk, listening to music through earphones. There is another knock at the door, but Eli doesn't respond.]

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE ELI'S QUARTERS

[Rush opens the door.]

INT—ELI'S QUARTERS

[The door slides open and Rush steps inside. Eli gets sits up and removes the earphones.]

RUSH
I tried radioing you.

ELI
Sorry. Sorry, I had my music on.

RUSH
We're about to drop out of FTL.

[Eli wraps up the earphones and picks up his radio.]

ELI
Ah. Okay. Thanks.

[Eli gets up and walks out. Rush follows, closing the door behind him.]

INT—OBSERVATION DECK

[Young and Wray and a number of other personnel are on the observation deck as Eli and Rush enter. They go to the railing at the windows to look, just as the ship drops out of FTL. There is a huge debris field off Destiny's bow.]

ELI
Is that…

YOUNG
Ships. Or what's left of them.

ELI
That is one hell of a battlefield.

WRAY
Was a battlefield. Now it's a graveyard.

END TEASER

OPENING CREDIT

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Young enters the control room, where Park, Volker, Brody and Rush are working. The heads-up display shows the debris.]

YOUNG
So.

PARK
Ah, it turns out the energy signature Destiny locked onto was the cluster of radiation pockets of the various ships.

[Rush changes the image on the display and gestures to it.]

RUSH
And it looks like at least one of them is familiar to us.

BRODY
That's the same type of ship you and Doctor Rush explored a couple weeks back.

YOUNG
Yeah, and from the looks of things, they came out the losers in this fight.

VOLKER
I'm having Destiny's computer run a program that'll plot back some of these dispersion patters. Hopefully, then we'll get a better idea of what's going on here.

YOUNG
In the meantime?

RUSH
Well, in the meantime, Colonel, we've come a long way. Seems a shame to leave empty handed. I suggest a bit of cautious exploration. Mister Brody, maybe you'd do the honors this time.

[Brody gives a slight nod then leaves the control room. Young turns to Rush and gives him a wry smile.]

INT—CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[Chloe is sitting on the edge of the bed. Scott is standing near the window, his hands in his pockets.]

SCOTT
You know, it's like a space junkyard. Ships, hundreds of them, scattered in pieces as far as the eye can see. It's…well, it's damn creepy.

[Chloe doesn't respond; she just sits, looking at the floor.]

SCOTT
Anyway, I just thought I'd let you know what's going on.

[She doesn't respond.]

SCOTT
What's the…what's the matter?

CHLOE
I already told you. Visiting me is a waste of time. I don't want you putting your life on hold just so you can come here and watch me disappear.

SCOTT
Disappear? Chloe!

[He steps toward her.]

CHLOE
It's spreading faster now.

[She pulls open her sweater to reveal the grayish scaly growth on her chest.]

CHLOE
I've tried to fight it, control it, but it's stronger than me. Sooner or later, I'm going to stop being me and become something else, something dangerous that won't be allowed to stay on the ship.

SCOTT
I won't let that happen.

CHLOE
There's nothing you can do to stop it. The best we can do is make use of me while I'm still me.

SCOTT
Chloe, stop talking like this.

CHLOE
Why, Matt? Why deny the inevitable?

SCOTT
Because it is not inevitable.

[Scott comes over and crouches down in front of her.]

CHLOE
Of course it is, and deep down, you know it. You've already started pulling away. When was the last time we spent the night together?

[He doesn't respond.]

CHLOE
You see? You know it's true.

YOUNG

(over radio)

Lieutenant Scott?

[Scott and Chloe sit there a moment, not looking at each other.]

YOUNG

(over radio)

Lieutenant Scott.

[Scott gets up and takes out his radio.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Sir.

YOUNG

(over radio)

I need you to suit up and meet us at the shuttle.

SCOTT

(into radio)

Right away.

[Scott walks over to the door but stops and turns around.]

SCOTT
This conversation isn't over.

[Scott opens the door and leaves, closing the door behind him. Chloe pulls her legs up and puts her head on her arms, crying.]

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE WRAY'S QUARTERS

[Wray and Eli arrive at her quarters.]

ELI
They need me on the bridge.

WRAY
Oh, Doctor Rush says he could spare you.

[Wray opens the door.]

INT—WRAY'S QUARTERS

ELI
He did?

WRAY
Uh-huh.

[Wray goes to the table and pours them both a drink from a flask.]

ELI
Ah, I'll save you the trouble. I'm not crazy. Which is pretty darn impressive, all things considered. I went from living at home with my mom to being stranded on a spaceship, billions of light years from Earth. And screw The Last Starfighter, because all those hours playing Halo didn't prepare me for this.

[Wray hands Eli a cup.]

WRAY
No one was prepared for this.

[Eli takes the cup and puts it on the table.]

ELI
Everyone else had some sort of training. But, hey, I've come a long way in my ten months. I've fought space battles, survived deadly radiation, time traveled. Sort of. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

WRAY
I don't think you're crazy. Uh, at least no crazier than the rest of us.

ELI
Really?

[Wray nods.]

ELI
Okay then. Good chat.

[Eli starts to leave.]

WRAY
This isn't a psych eval, Eli. This is just two friends talking.

[Eli stops at the door and turns back.]

WRAY
You have been a little distracted lately and—and that has some of us worried.

ELI

(incredulous)

You guys are worried because I'm a little distracted?

WRAY
We're worried because, given the recent events, you should be a hell of a lot more than just a little distracted. The memorial video you put together for Sergeant Riley, it was very moving.

ELI
You know what's weird? Sometimes, I'll forget that he's gone. I'll actually walk into the gateroom and turn my head and, and for a split second, wonder where—where the hell he is. And then I remember.

WRAY
He was a very important part of your life here.

ELI
When your whole world collapses down to less than a hundred people in a confined space, it all becomes important to you, Camile. Riley was part of the ship and losing him, it wasn't just, it wasn't just sad, it was wrong.

WRAY
What about losing Ginn?

[Eli shakes his head and walks away.]

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE SHUTTLE DOCK

[Scott, Greer and Brody are dressed in space suits, walking along the corridor to the shuttle]

GREER
So, when did you finish fixing the third suit?

BRODY
Yesterday. It's perfectly safe.

INT—SHUTTLE

GREER
All right, wait, well then how come I'm wearing, it and you're not?

BRODY
Easier to fix if something goes wrong. Which it won't. In all likelihood.

[The three men take their seats in the shuttle.]

SCOTT

(into comms)

All right, Colonel, we are good to go.

YOUNG

(over comms)

All right.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Young is walking around the bridge.]

YOUNG

(into comms)

Take her out.

INT—SHUTTLE

YOUNG

(over comms)

Have a look around.

[The rear hatch of the shuttle closes.]

SCOTT

(into comms)

Heading out.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Young takes a seat in the command chair.]

YOUNG

(into comms)

Lieutenant, be careful out there.

EXT—SHUTTLE IN SPACE

[The shuttle flies away from Destiny and enters the debris field.]

INT—SHUTTLE

BRODY
This is amazing.

[Scott has a concerned look on his face and shakes his head.]

SCOTT
I don't know.

[Greer chuckles.]

SCOTT
You mean to tell me you're not the least bit weirded out, flying through this?

GREER
Nuh-uh. Anything that could hurt us is long dead and gone, brother.

EXT—DEBRIS FIELD

[The shuttle maneuvers through the debris field. As it passes, a small alien craft powers up and begins to maneuver.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush, Volker and Park are at the windows at the front of the bridge. Volker and Park are sitting at control stations, while Rush stands between them, notebook and pencil in hand.]

RUSH

(into comms)

How goes it, Lieutenant?

EXT—DEBRIS FIELD

[The shuttle approaches a large ship.]

SCOTT

(voice)

Fine. I'm coming up on a…

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comms)

…target of opportunity, here.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

RUSH

(into comms)

Yeah, we see it.

SCOTT

(over comms)

Looks more or less intact.

VOLKER
Picking up faint EM readings.

EXT—DEBRIS FIELD

[The shuttle approaches the ship.]

SCOTT

(voice)

I've got an access point on the ship's left side. Should we check it out?

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comms)

Sir?

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush looks to Young for a response.]

YOUNG

(into comms)

You're good to go, Lieutenant.

SCOTT

(over comms)

Yes, Sir.

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
All right, let's do this.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Eli comes running onto the bridge.]

ELI
Sorry I'm late.

VOLKER
No, you're just in time.

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
Engaging reverse thrusters.

[Scott operates the control panel on the arm of his seat.]

EXT—DEBRIS FIELD

[The shuttle backs in towards the alien ship.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
All right, that's as close as we're going to get.

GREER
Hats on, gentlemen.

[Brody pauses with an anxious expression on his face, then the three men go to the rear of the shuttle and put their helmets on. Greer takes out a case containing ropes, which he secures to an upright on the inside of the shuttle. Scott opens the shuttle's rear hatch, and the hole in the hull of the alien ship is directly opposite. Greer takes the free end of the rope and wraps it around his wrist several times.]

GREER
Let's go explore.

[Greer goes to the shuttle's open hatchway and looks out. Brody is standing by, shining a flashlight into the alien ship.]

EXT—DEBRIS FIELD

[There is a gap of several meters between the rear of the shuttle and the alien ship.]

INT—SHUTTLE

GREER
I'll see you on the other side.

EXT—DEBRIS FIELD

[Greer steps out of the rear of the shuttle and drifts across to the alien ship.]

INT—ALIEN SHIP

[Greer lands heavily on his magnetized boots.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Brody and Scott watch Greer.]

INT—ALIEN SHIP

GREER
I'm on board.

[Greer takes out his weapon and checks the immediate area before starting to secure the rope.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[The slack is taken out of the rope.]

INT—ALIEN SHIP

[Greer wraps the rope around several beams and pulls it taut.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[The rope becomes taut.]

INT—ALIEN SHIP

[Greer secures the rope.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Brody clips a safety line onto the rope with a carabiner.]

INT—ALIEN SHIP

GREER
I'm ready for you.

INT—SHUTTLE

[Brody goes slowly to the open hatchway.]

BRODY
Oh, boy.

INT—ALIEN SHIP

[Greer beckons to Brody.]

GREER
Come on. I've got you.

INT—SHUTTLE

[Brody takes a deep breath and steps out as Scott looks on.]

SCOTT

(into comms)

Mister Brody's…

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

SCOTT

(over comms)

…on route.

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott watches Brody drift across to the alien ship.]

INT—ALIEN SHIP

[While Greer holds the rope taut, Brody enters the ship, carrying an equipment case.]

GREER
We're both on board.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

RUSH

(into comms)

Have a look around…

INT—ALIEN SHIP

RUSH

(over comms)

See if there's anything you can salvage.

[Brody taps Greer on the shoulder and gestures.]

BRODY
Hey, this way.

[They start to walk off along a corridor.]

SCOTT

(over comms)

Hey, and, ah…

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
…watch your asses over there, okay?

INT—ALIEN SHIP

BRODY
Just do me a favor and don't touch anything. If you see something you want to investigate, just let me look at it first.

[They come to a closed door. Greer hits the door opener panel but it doesn't respond.]

BRODY
Wow. What did I just say?

GREER
Door panel's dead.

BRODY
Hold on.

[Brody opens the equipment case, takes out a pry bar and hands it to Greer.]

BRODY
Here.

[Brody takes the pry bar and starts to attempt to lever open the door.]

BRODY
So just…use the shoulder. You might want to move out so you can get a little more leverage.

GREER
Do you want to help?

BRODY
Okay.

GREER
All right, just shut up and let me work. Okay?

BRODY
Okay.

[Greer manages to get the door open a crack.]

GREER
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon!

[Brody grabs one edge of the door, and they push put it apart. The corridor behind it seems to be empty and they begin walking along it.]

INT—DESTINY, VARRO'S QUARTERS

[Varro is standing by the window. The door opens, and TJ comes in carrying a food tray.]

TJ
Hi. I, uh, brought you some lunch.

[TJ closes the door behind her and puts the tray on the table.]

VARRO
Great. Sitting around this room all day really works up an appetite.

TJ
Well, you can hardly blame the Colonel for confining you to quarters after what happened with Simeon.

VARRO
I understand, but you have to realize that Simeon was unstable.

TJ
And you knew, but you didn't tell us.

VARRO
Well, I thought I could control him.

[TJ sits down on the bed.]

TJ
But you couldn't.

VARRO
I know… Haven't seen you in a while.

TJ
I wanted to come by; I've just…been busy.

[Varro comes over and sits down next to TJ.]

VARRO
Your people, the ones who came back from the planet, they didn't have your child.

TJ
No. I was wrong about that. I was misled.

VARRO
Possibly.

TJ
There's no other explanation for it. This ship has demonstrated the ability to mess with people's minds. In my case, I guess it was trying to protect me.

[Varro reaches over and squeezes TJ's hand.]

TJ
I should get back to the infirmary.

[Varro nods and TJ gets up to leave, but she sees something fly quickly past the window outside. She walks towards the window.]

VARRO
What is it?

TJ
I'm not sure.

INT—BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into comms)

Talk to me.

INT—ALIEN SHIP

[Greer and Brody are still making their way through the ship.]

YOUNG

(over comms)

What's your situation, Sergeant?

GREER

Dark. And real quiet. (looking at Brody)

Too quiet.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

TJ

(over radio)

Colonel, this is TJ.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Go ahead.

TJ

(over radio)

I've just seen some movement…

INT—VARRO'S QUARTERS

TJ

(into radio)

…in the debris field.

INT—BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into radio)

Well, what kind of movement?

TJ

(over radio)

Uh, to be honest…

INT—VARRO'S QUARTERS

TJ

(into radio)

…I'm not sure, it happened so fast. I just thought I should report it.

YOUNG

(over radio)

All right.

INT—BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into radio)

Thanks for that.

[A single high-pitched tone sounds. Everyone looks around.]

YOUNG
What the hell was that?

ELI
It's Destiny letting us know it finished assembling the simulation. Either that or pie's done.

[Eli goes to a console screen and operates some buttons.]

ELI
Nope. Simulation.

[Everybody else comes over to look at the screen.]

ELI
Ready?

[Young nods. Eli brings up the graphical simulation on the screen. It shows pieces of debris come together to form five ships, faced off against seven smaller, disk-shaped ships that didn't need to be reconstructed.]

YOUNG
What are those left over pieces?

ELI
No idea.

[Eli plays back the simulation again.]

ELI
Oh, no. We've got to get out of here.

YOUNG
Why?

ELI

Two sides battled.
(the screen shows the pieces of the larger ships flashing red)
These guys, they're destroyed.
(the screen shows the smaller, disk-shape ships flashing red)

But these guys, they just go dark. They're not disabled or damaged, they're dormant!

[Young goes to the command chair console and activates the comms.]

YOUNG

(into comms)

Lieutenant, I need you to fall…

INT—SHUTTLE

YOUNG

(over comms)

…back to the Destiny.

SCOTT
But Sergeant Greer and Brody just boarded the wreck, Sir.

INT—DESTINY' BRIDGE

[Everyone rushes to their stations.]

YOUNG

(into comms)

I need you to get them out of there immediately. You may be in danger.

SCOTT

(over comms)

Yes, Sir.

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
Greer, did you get that?

INT—ALIEN SHIP

GREER
We're on our way.

[Greer and Brody start back.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott sees something fly quickly past the shuttle.]

SCOTT
What in the hell?

INT—DESTINY' BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into comms)

Come again, Lieutenant?

SCOTT

(over comms)

I think, uh…

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
I-I think I just saw something.

YOUNG

(over comms)

What is it?

SCOTT
I'm not sure.

INT—DESTINY OBSERVATION DECK

[Wray and a number of Destiny personnel are looking out the window. A small craft flies quickly over the forward section of Destiny and up over the observation deck. Wray gets out her radio, a panicked expression on her face.]

WRAY

(into radio)

Colonel?

INT—DESTINY' BRIDGE

WRAY

(over radio)

This is Camile. We're not alone out here.

EXT—DEBRIS FIELD

[A number of small, alien craft power up.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott watches out the window as numerous craft fly past.]

SCOTT
Sir, you have potential hostiles on route!

EXT—DEBRIS FIELD

[The small craft are flying through the debris field towards Destiny.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

YOUNG
Shields to full, ready weapons, fire only on my command.

EXT—DESTINY

[The bridge retracts into the hull.]

YOUNG

(voice)

Eli, I want you to broadcast a message.

INT—BRIDGE

ELI
In Ancient?

YOUNG
Ancient, English, Bat Signal, whatever else you've got. Tell them we are not a threat.

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott runs to the rear hatchway.]

SCOTT
Greer! I need you guys back here, now!

INT—ALIEN SHIP

[Greer and Brody are running through the ship.]

INT—DESTINY

[There are people sitting around talking when suddenly, a klaxon sounds. The gather their things.]

INT—CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[While the klaxon continues to sound, Chloe is standing looking out the window. She is expressionless.]

INT—VARRO'S QUARTERS

[While the klaxon continues to sound, Varro and TJ are by the window.]

TJ
I've got to go.

[She rushes towards the door.]

VARRO
Tamara! Let me help.

[TJ opens the door and looks back apologetically at Varro. She walks out and closes the door.]

INT—BRIDGE

[Eli is watching a screen that shows numerous red dots approaching Destiny from all directions.]

ELI
They're closing.

[A bank of monitors descend from the ceiling around the command chair.]

ELI

(excited)

Hey, we have more monitors!

INT—ALIEN SHIP

[Greer and Brody are running through the ship. They arrive at the hull breach, and Brody clips his carabiner onto the rope that stretches to the shuttle.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
Come on! Come on!

INT—ALIEN SHIP

GREER
Go!

[Brody starts back to the shuttle.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Brody gets to the shuttle and Scott helps him inside.]

BRODY
Start her up!

[Scott rushes to the forward section and begins the start-up procedure while Brody waits to help Greer on board.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

PARK
Shields are up.

YOUNG
Any response from our message?

ELI
None.

EXT—SPACE

[The small craft begin darting past and around Destiny, firing on it.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Everyone looks around anxiously.]

INT—VARRO'S QUARTERS

[Varro watches out the windows.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Military personnel are running through the corridor as spark begin to fly.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

YOUNG
Return fire.

[Park operates the weapons controls.]

EXT—DESTINY

[The weapons placements swing into action and start firing on the small craft, which move so quickly that they evade the fire.]

INT—DESTINY BRDGE

[Rush's console shows a schematic of the ship; a section is highlighted in red.]

RUSH
We have a breach in one of the unoccupied sections. I'm sealing it now.

INT—SHUTTLE

[Greer is now on board. He and Brody run to take their seats.]

SCOTT
Good to go?

GREER
We're good, we're good!

SCOTT
All right. Okay, here we go!

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

PARK
Shields are weakening.

[Sparks start showering from the ceiling.]

RUSH
Transfer power from weapons.

PARK
We have multiple overloads!

RUSH
Reroute, reroute!

[There is a series of explosions.]

RUSH
We have to jump.

YOUNG
The shuttle's not back yet.

RUSH
We cannot afford to wait. Mister Volker…

YOUNG
We are not going anywhere!

[There are more explosions and showers of sparks.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[As sparks shower, Wray leads a group of personnel running through the ship.]

SOLDIER
Go, go, go! This way! Go! Move, go, go, all the way. Go!

[The people scream as they move through the corridor.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
Got us open. Two o'clock, right there. Do you see them?

GREER
I see them, I see them!

EXT—SHUTTLE

[As the shuttle approaches Destiny it fires at the alien craft that are flying around, taking out one. A piece of its debris impacts Destiny, causing obvious damage. The shuttle lands safely on the pad.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
All right, we are on board.

[They prepare to disembark.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

YOUNG
All right, get us out of here.

[While explosions and spark continue, an alarm sounds on Volker's console.]

VOLKER
It's not working!

RUSH
FTL engines are offline.

VOLKER
They must have taken a hit.

YOUNG
How long 'til we get them back?

PARK
Shields are weakening, and we've got some weapons down.

RUSH
Several areas of the ship have gone dark.

PARK
It's just a matter of time before the shields fail.

VOLKER
All we have are sub-light engines. We'll never outrun them.

YOUNG
We're going to have to try.

[Explosions continue to rock the bridge.]

EXT—SPACE

[A seed ship drops out of FTL.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

VOLKER
A ship just dropped out of FTL.

[Everyone looks around in concern.]

VOLKER

(surprised)

It's a seed ship.

TELFORD

(over comms)

Destiny', this is Telford.

YOUNG

(into comms)

David! How the hell did—

TELFORD

(over comms)

No time for that now. I need you to follow us.

YOUNG

(into comms)

Where the hell are we going?

VOLKER
It's on the move.

YOUNG
Where are they going?

VOLKER
Directly towards a star.

YOUNG
Let's follow them. Divert all remaining power to the shields.

INT—CORRIDOR

[The lights go out.]

INT—SECOND CORRIDOR

[A soldier is walking along the corridor when the lights go out.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ is treating a patient when the lights go out.]

INT—BRIDGE

VOLKER
He we go.

EXT—STAR

[The seed ship flies into the corona of the star with Destiny close behind. Twenty or so of the small craft follow them and are vaporized.]

INT—DESTINY, VARRO'S QUARTERS

[Varro turns away from the bright light through the window.]

EXT—STAR

[Destiny flies through the corona.]

INT—DESTINY, CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[Chloe stands, staring out the window, seemingly oblivious to the blinding glow of the star.]

EXT—DESTINY

[The power scoops on the underside of the ship are lowered.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

RUSH
We're coming through the other side.

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny and the seed ship fly out of the sun and into space.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

VOLKER
That bought us some time, but we only have as long as it takes them to get around the star.

TELFORD

(over comms)

Hey, you're welcome. Let's dock. I've got a hell of a story to tell you and not much time to tell it.

EXT—DESTINY AND THE SEED SHIP IN SPACE

[The two ships are docked.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Scott, Greer, Volker and Telford enter the bridge. Young is there.]

YOUNG
Gentlemen.

TELFORD
Well, this is pretty damn impressive.

[Young and Telford embrace.]

YOUNG
Not as impressive as flying a seed ship to our rescue.

TELFORD
Yeah, well I had plenty of help with that one. The aliens we encountered while exploring it, it turns out they weren't hostile after all. Just desperate.

FLASHBACK

INT—SEED SHIP

[Telford is in the control room, surrounded by Ursini.]

TELFORD

(voice)

Well, after Destiny disconnected and made the jump to FTL, I figured I was a goner. I was surrounded; they had me at their mercy.

END FLASHBACK

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

ELI
But they ended up being friendly.

TELFORD
Well, I wouldn't go so far as to call them "friendly", but, ah, they weren't exactly interested in harming me, either. They were…curious. I tried communicating with them, but that was next to impossible, I mean verbally, anyway. So we found a shortcut.

FLASHBACK

INT—SEED SHIP

[Telford is in the section of the ship housing the Ursini stasis pods.]

TELFORD

(voice)

Their stasis pods are outfitted with neural stimulators, designed to keep their occupants' brains active during extended hibernations. So, when they hooked me up…well, it's hard to describe the experience.

END FLASHBACK

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

TELFORD
It was like watching an entire film library in less than a day. I saw images, thousands of them. Most were a blur, totally incomprehensible, but others were clearer. And, over time, the pieces drifted together and I was able to form a basic understanding of the aliens and their history.

FLASHBACK

INT—SEED SHIP CONTROL ROOM

[Telford is working at a console, and an Ursini comes to help him.]

TELFORD

(voice)

They call themselves the Ursini and, after a while, they began to trust me. Eventually, working together, we were able to bring the seed ship online.

END FLASHBACK

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

TELFORD
Been trying to chase you down ever since.

YOUNG
Well, you've been gone for almost a month. What, what'd you do for food and water?

TELFORD
Well, the pods provide basic nutrients to their occupants. I never thought I'd say this, but I missed the food here on Destiny.

ELI

(in disbelief)

So, wait a minute. These aliens helped you out of the goodness of their hearts?

TELFORD
Well, there's a little more to it than that. They need our help.

INT—CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[Eli is pacing the room, explaining recent events to Chloe, who is sitting, expressionless, staring at the floor.]

ELI
The ships that came after us are automated attack drones. Apparently, years ago, Telford's aliens, the Ursini, made the same mistake that we did and woke them up, and they've been fighting them ever since. When they discovered the seed ship, they boarded it for…for long-term reconnaissance, hoping it would give them an edge in their war against the drones. Their stay on board was supposed to be temporary, but no one ever went back for them. They were in stasis for who knows how long before we came around.

[Chloe looks up at Eli.]

ELI
They—they drained the power away from Destiny because they were desperate. Just looking for a way home, and now, even though they finally have a way back, they're, they're afraid to make contact until they're sure that the drone threat is over, which is where we come in.

CHLOE
We can't trust them.

ELI
Our FTL drives are offline; we really don't have much of a choice.

CHLOE
So, what are we going to do then?

ELI
That's…that's still being discussed.

WRAY

(voice)

You know, it's only a matter of time…

INT—YOUNG'S QUARTERS

[Wray, Rush and Young are having a conversation.]

WRAY
…before the drones circumvent that star and find us. And with the FTL engines still offline, we're sitting ducks.

YOUNG
Maybe not. Maybe there's a way out of this. We help the Ursini defeat the drones.

WRAY
We barely survived our first encounter with those things.

YOUNG
That's just because we were going about it the wrong way.

RUSH
According to Telford, the drones are controlled by a command ship. Now, we take out that command ship, we cripple the drones.

WRAY
Simple as that.

YOUNG
Well, I doubt it'll be simple. I'm hoping for a step up from impossible.

WRAY
Do we know where this command ship is located?

YOUNG
They do. It's out of sub-light range; we would have to make the jump.

WRAY
And have you explained that our jumping capabilities have been compromised?

YOUNG
Telford has made them aware of the situation. They've offered to give us a lift.

WRAY
I don't understand.

RUSH
They engage their FTL drives while we're docked, and we jump with them.

WRAY
That's possible?

RUSH
Theoretically, yes.

WRAY

(skeptical)

Oh. Theoretically.

RUSH
There's always a risk when you attempt a jump so soon after a drop-out, but assuming it works…

WRAY
Hmmm.

RUSH
Now, first, they take us someplace safe, then we play for time. Delay them long enough 'til we can get our own FTL engines back online.

WRAY
Double cross them, you mean.

RUSH
Yeah.

WRAY
No, we can't do that. If they have offered to help us—

RUSH
It's a fantastic opportunity to take advantage of their generosity, yes.

WRAY
Oh!

YOUNG
That's not a good idea.

RUSH
Well, why not? I mean, at that point, they're in no position to harm us.

YOUNG
No, but in case you've forgotten, they still hold the key to us dialing Earth.

INT—BRIDGE

[Rush enters the bridge. Eli and Volker are working.]

RUSH
Where are Park and Brody?

VOLKER
Effecting repairs on some of the damaged systems.

[Eli is staring at a console blankly. Rush comes over to him.]

RUSH
And what are you doing?

ELI
Monitoring the ship's power levels.

RUSH
Yeah, well it might interest you to know that you're bleeding energy from one of the weapons platforms.

[Eli sees the indication on his console.]

ELI
Shoot!

[Eli tries to fix the problem but is not successful.]

RUSH
Here, look.

[Rush leans over and performs the operation. Eli looks at him resentfully then sits back in his chair. Rush turns and walks towards the command chair, but stops short and turns to Volker.]

RUSH
Go and help Park and Brody.

VOLKER
Well, I'm in the middle of the, uh…

RUSH
Go.

VOLKER
Maybe I'll go help Park and Brody.

[Volker gets up and leaves the bridge.]

ELI
I know; I screwed up.

[Rush goes to the command chair and sits down.]

RUSH
No, it's a minor oversight. One of many, as of late. You haven't screwed up. Not yet, anyway. I'm sure with your present attitude, it's only a matter of time.

ELI

(sarcastically)

Yeah, you know, I get it. People are depending on the boy genius. I can't let them down.

RUSH
And yet, despite all that genius, you couldn't save the life of the woman you loved.

[Eli turns to face Rush and stands up.]

ELI

(angry)

What?

RUSH
Someone bigger and stronger came along and took her away from you, and there wasn't a thing you could do about it. I'm sure you were so blinded with rage you even imagined getting revenge on the guy that killed her. Beating the bully at his own game. Even if you had, it wouldn't have changed a damn thing. You'd still be getting up in the morning; she'd still be dead.

ELI
I'm out of here.

[Eli starts to leave.]

RUSH
You know, we grew up taught to believe that everyone's equal.

[Eli stops at the door.]

RUSH
That you're no better than anyone else. Of course, that's a lie. Some are better than others, and it's those who recognize what makes them better and learn to exploit that, who succeed. You've got so much potential, Eli. You're capable of success beyond your wildest dreams, but the only way that you can achieve that… Well, you've got to make sure you don't get beaten down. You can't give up. Not now you're so close.

[Eli is about to speak just as Young enters the bridge.]

YOUNG
Am I interrupting something?

[There is no response.]

YOUNG
Telford communicated with the Ursini and is on his way back from the seed ship. Looks like we got ourselves a deal.

EXT—DESTINY AND THE SEED SHIP DOCKED IN SPACE

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Eli, Brody, Volker, Park and Rush are on the bridge. Telford and Young enter.]

YOUNG
All right, let's let them know we're ready.

[Telford goes to a console to send a message to the seed ship.]

ELI
So, this should work. In principle. It's really no different than when the shuttle jumps into FTL with Destiny.

BRODY
Except that the shuttle is massively smaller than Destiny and designed to do that, while we're three times the size of the seed ship and just hoping for the best.

VOLKER
There's also the fact that we're attempting to jump in the three-hour danger window.

ELI
But…what's the worst that can happen? It doesn't work.

VOLKER

(laughing ironically)

Hell no. It actually does work and at some point we detach and the ship's million year old structural integrity gives, and we end up vaporized. That's the worst that can happen.

YOUNG
Are you guys done?

TELFORD
Less than a minute before we jump.

YOUNG
Well, here we go.

[Young activates the public address system.]

YOUNG

(into comms)

We are about to attempt a couple-jump…

INT—DESTINY ROOM

[A couple is listening to the announcement.]

YOUNG

(over PA)

…into FTL. In approximately four hours, we will…

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ is listening to the announcement.]

YOUNG

(over PA)

…drop out to a safer area.

INT—CORRIDOR

[A soldier is walking along the corridor and stops to listen to the announcement.]

YOUNG

(over PA)

Once there…

INT—ANOTHER PART OF DESTINY

[Several people are listening to the announcement.]

YOUNG

(over PA)

…we will have time to effect…

INT—ANOTHER PART OF DESTINY

[Several people are listening to the announcement.]

YOUNG

(over PA)

…any necessary repairs before launching…

INT—VARRO'S QUARTERS

[Varro is listening to the announcement.]

YOUNG

(over PA)

…the attack on the command ship.

INT—BRIDGE

[Everyone waits anxiously.]

TELFORD
Counting down from three…two…one.

EXT—DESTINY AND THE SEED SHIP DOCKED IN SPACE

[The seed ship's FTL drive activates, and the two ships jump together.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

VOLKER
It's working. We're in FTL.

[Park sighs in relief.]

ELI
And, still in one piece!

YOUNG
How are we doing?

PARK
Shields are strong and holding.

BRODY
Structural integrity's sound.

INT—CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[The door opens, and Eli enters. Chloe is standing, staring out the window. The door closes behind Eli.]

ELI
Did they tell you? We made a deal. Once we've defeated the command ship, the aliens are going to help us dial Earth!

[Chloe is expressionless and non-responsive.]

ELI
Chloe? Are you okay?

[Destiny drops out of FTL.]

INT—BRIDGE

[Surprised, Brody gets up and goes to Volker's station.]

BRODY
We dropped out of FTL.

PARK
Already?

BRODY
Maybe there's a problem.

YOUNG
Contact the seed ship.

[Volker brings up a display on his console screen that shows Destiny, a dozen small red dots and one large one.]

VOLKER
Oh, no!

PARK
What is that?

VOLKER
I'm guessing that's the command ship.

BRODY
We've been tricked.

YOUNG
Yeah, so much for our deal with the Ursini.

BRODY
We just got a message from the seed ship.

YOUNG
What does it say?

BRODY
Target the command vessel.

EXT—DESTINY AND THE SEED SHIP IN SPACE

[The seed ship undocks from Destiny and flies away towards the drones.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

YOUNG
Damn it.

PARK
Colonel?

YOUNG
Let's engage the enemy.

[Brody, Volker and Park prepare their consoles.]

EXT—SPACE

[Dozens of alien drones start firing on the seed ship and Destiny.]

INT—DESTINY, CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[Eli looks out the window at the battle.]

ELI
I've got to get back to the bridge!

[He turns to leave, but Chloe reaches out and grabs him firmly by the arm. Eli looks at her in confusion.]

CHLOE
Let me help.

[Eli considers or a moment.]

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[The door opens and Eli and Chloe come out of her quarters. The guard stops them.]

GUARD
Whoa. Where are you taking her?

ELI
To the bridge.

GUARD
I'm going to have to check with the Colonel.

[Before the guard can operate his radio, Chloe grabs him and shoves him hard against the wall, twice. She drops him to floor when he loses consciousness. She looks at Eli, and he puts his hands up in submission. As the lights flicker and the sounds of battle can be heard, Chloe walks calmly away down the corridor.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[There are sparks showering from the ceiling as personnel attempt to make their way to safety].

SOLDIER
This way! Over here!

INT—BRIDGE

[Showers of sparks burst from walls and equipment.]

PARK
Shields are holding.

VOLKER
The drones have positioned themselves between Destiny and the command ship. We're not getting anywhere near it.

ELI

(over radio)

This is Eli. Chloe…

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[Eli is crouching over the unconscious guard.]

ELI

(into radio)

…escaped her quarters.

INT—BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into radio)

Where the hell did she go?

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE CHLOE'S QUARTERS

ELI

(into radio)

I have no idea.

INT—BRIDGE

ELI

(over radio)

But she might be dangerous.

YOUNG
Brody, seal off that section.

[Brody operates the console.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Doors close.]

INT—BRIDGE

YOUNG

(into radio)

Lieutenant Scott?

INT—CORRIDOR

[Scott is leading a team.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

We'll find her, Sir.

[They follow a series of corridors.]

INT—BRIDGE

[Telford arrives on the bridge.]

TELFORD
What the hell happened?

YOUNG
Change of plans. I guess your friends suspected a double cross and decided to act first.

INT—CORRIDOR

[People are running along the corridor.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Chloe arrives at a locked door. When it won't open, she pulls the cover from the door control panel, fiddles with the wiring, and the door opens. She walks through and away down another corridor.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ is treating the wounded. There are more injured being brought in.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Scott arrives at the door that Chloe opened, finding the cover to the door control panel on the floor. He is looking around when Eli comes running around the corner. He raises his weapon then realizes who it is.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

This is Lieutenant Scott.

INT—BRIDGE

SCOTT

(over radio)

Chloe has broken containment.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Scott walks off to search for Chloe. Eli follows.]

INT—BRIDGE

[Beeping sounds come from Park's console.]

PARK
Shields are starting to weaken!

YOUNG
Let's get a message to the seed ship. Tell them we need to make a strategic retreat. We'll regroup, take another run at this later.

[Eli arrives on the bridge.]

YOUNG
Glad you could make it. Where's Rush?

ELI
Don't know!

YOUNG
How are we doing?

VOLKER
There's just too many of them!

INT—INFIRMARY

[Varro is brought into the infirmary.]

TJ
You said you wanted to help me? Here's your chance.

[Varro helps TJ splint a patient's legs.]

TJ
Put one under, then go like this.

EXT—SPACE

[The drones continue to fire on Destiny, which fires back, taking out some.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Scott is running along the corridor. He comes to the control room, where he sees Chloe at a console.]

SCOTT
Chloe? Chloe?

[Scott approaches.]

SCOTT
Step away from that console.

[Chloe does not respond. Scott grabs her arm and turns her towards him.]

SCOTT
Chloe!

CHLOE
It's too late.

SCOTT
What did you do? Chloe, what did you do?

[Chloe looks at him, confused and upset, as if she's just come back to herself.]

INT—BRIDGE

[Rush arrives on the bridge.]

PARK
Shields are weakening, and several weapons platforms are down.

TELFORD
Damn it.

YOUNG
What do they say?

TELFORD
Nothing, they're not responding.

VOLKER
The drones are giving as good as it gets. There's no way we're getting to that command ship.

BRODY
We might want to consider falling back.

RUSH
There's nowhere to fall back to.

[The bridge is lit up by several explosions.]

EXT—SPACE

[The drones continue to fire on Destiny.]

FADE OUT
