::* "Carl is spinning ideas for his third [script]..." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, April 11, 2008.
::* "We spent the afternoon spinning Carl’s idea, a story Alan is calling “The Red Shirt Diaries”." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, April 15, 2008.
::* "Carl Binder’s latest (the beat sheet arrived on my desk late this afternoon and I’m going to try to read it tomorrow morning)..." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, April 29, 2008.
::* "Well, I finally did make it back to the production offices in time to [...] give Carl notes on his beat sheet (formerly The Red Shirt Diaries then First Day and now ???)." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 1, 2008.
::* "Carl’s script, formerly titled The Red Shirt Diaries before being re-titled to First Day, has become Prodigal." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 8, 2008.
::* Marc writes: “There is a lot of talk about not leaving our people behind. Does this include the dead?” Answer: "Yes, it definitely includes the dead. In fact, Carl pitched out a story that was to deal with this very issue (The Red Shirt Diaries) but, after much discussion, it was temporarily shelved. Season 6 maybe?" — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 30, 2008.
::* Iamjohn writes: “Are there any city specific episodes this season?” Answer: "Yep. Carl is working on one as I file this entry." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 30, 2008.

::* "Looking way ahead, I’ve talked myself into the #16 spot with “a very special Stargate Atlantis” (apologies to James Stewart), while we’ve got some other potential stories floating about in search of definitive slot." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, March 4, 2008.
::* "...my “a very special Stargate Atlantis” which quite possibly may see the return of the lovely Kari Wuhrer [Sheppard's ex-wife Nancy]..." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, April 29, 2008.
::* "Yes, it feels like not that long ago I was prepping episode #3 and now, here I sit, thinking about thinking about episode #16. Yes, I’ll eventually start making headway but, at this point in a story‘s development, it‘s so easy to get distracted by seemingly more pressing matters..." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 7, 2008.
::* "Skip over that big, blank space at the #15 slot and you come to my final episode of the season, tentatively titled Remnants. A little more progress today which took the form of my promising to have a beat sheet ready for Monday. I guess there’s nothing left to do now but write the damn thing." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 8, 2008.
::* This episode is scheduled for start of filming in late July according to Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 8, 2008.
::* "We spun Marty G.’s latest story idea this morning, going back and forth on various notions as the room argued containment fields, points of science, and hot vs. cold air masses. The thematic shift of his story has turned out to be a good new/bad news situation for me. Good news: HE is now writing “A Very Special Stargate: Atlantis”. Bad news: He takes the #16 slot which means I’m writing #15 which will have to be ready to prep on the day we get back from our summer hiatus. It would be great to have a story locked some time before then, but it’s been mighty slow going. And I’m getting mighty anxious." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 12, 2008.
::* "Speaking of scripts - I’ve finally made some headway on episode #15. Sort of. I’ve expanded the story and included throughlines for three separate characters, an A story mystery, and a B story probationary review." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 13, 2008.
::* "While many in the office packed up their golf clubs and headed south, I opted for an extra long weekend of staying put and doing nothing. Well, not exactly nothing. I do have books to read, a blog to update, and a certain outline that, sadly, won’t write itself." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 16, 2008.
::* "I’ve discovered a cure for insomnia! If you’re ever lying wide awake in bed and unable to fall sleep, all you have to do is start thinking about the outline for your upcoming script. I guarantee you’ll be out before the first act break. Amazingly, it seems to work for mid-afternoon naps as well. Yes, the outline is slow going, but I hope to have a rough beat sheet in by end of day Tuesday after which everyone will weigh in and no doubt help me fill in the missing pieces that will send me on my way to script. If I can lock in a structure by early next week, I could probably turn in a first draft before mid-June, leaving my hiatus more or less free and clear for reading, Esperanto lessons, and my beginner’s garroting class." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 18, 2008.
::* "Back at the office today. ... beat out the tease and first two acts of the tentatively titled Remnants ..." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 20, 2008.
::* "Well, I’m pleased to report I’ve finally completed a very rough beat sheet for Remnants, formerly a “very special Stargate: Atlantis”, now a “not so special Stargate: Atlantis”. However, I’m sure that once the other writers weigh in with their brilliant ideas, it’ll go from “not so special” to “one of passing interest”. So far, I’ve got the word out to a couple of potential guest stars, discussed the look of the mainland, and have been considering some of the more important character moments I want to explore with Sheppard, McKay, and Woolsey." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 22, 2008.
::* "Well, after receiving some thoughts from the other writers, I’m off and running on Remnants. I hit the 12-page mark today and hope to make some progress this weekend - at least until I hit the top of the third act where one of those blasted TBD place-holder beats awaits. Nevertheless, I hope to have a first draft done before we head off for hiatus (in two weeks)..." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 28, 2008.
::* "Whenever I start work on a script, I set modest goals and then always surprise myself by exceeding expectations. I’ve done this so often that you would think I’d know better by now but, no, I continue to amaze myself. Take Remnants for instance. I wanted to have a first draft for mid-July but, after some thought, revised the target date to a month earlier - the second week of June which would allow me to get some feedback from the other writers before I head off for hiatus. It usually takes me about two weeks to write a script, so I figured if I had an outline in place by the beginning of the month, June 13th would be very doable. ... I hit P. 21 today and, as predicted, it’s fairly smooth sailing. So far. ... For instance, just this afternoon a couple of those persistent little notions came together to give me a truly diabolical revelation. The result = a scene that will have all the Shep-whumpers screaming “Yes! Yes!” and then “What?! NO!! NO!! NOOOO!!!” The gloves are off, kiddies. ... Oh, and I came up with that fifth act twist I’ve been agonizing over. This is cause for celebration." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 30, 2008.
::* Kristen writes: “In your opinion which episode for Sheppard is going to be his character driven magnus opus?” Answer: "Right now? Remnants." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 30, 2008.
::* "And, all the while, running dialogue through my head for the next scene I have to write: McKay, Zelenka, black tea, and a frank admission. I went on a bit of a creative tear last night, hitting the 29 page mark before running out of steam. But much of the night after that was spent lying in bed, tossing and turning as I plotted out the next couple of acts." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, June 1, 2008.

::* "Martin Gero 'written and directed by spectacular'..." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, April 29, 2008.
::* "Martin almost had himself a new story today. I say almost because, after spinning out what he felt was a wonderfully exciting idea, Martin returned to his office and, in the process of writing it up, came to the conclusion that, hey, this concept has the potential to go wrong in so many different ways. So, he’s back at Square #1. ... Well, hey. Marty G. just dropped by to pitch out his new, wonderfully exciting idea for Episode #15. We all love it. I suggested he rush back to his office and write it up before he changes his mind. Again." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 8, 2008.

Not everything is about the Wraith though. Flanigan said it's his understanding that filming for the show's upcoming 100th episode will take place in Las Vegas. ::* "... 1) an impromptu gathering of the writers to spin four possible new story ideas including a sequel to that season 4 episode and the possibility of revisiting the SG-1-themed and shelved Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow..." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, February 14, 2008.
::* "Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow" is a time travel x2 story originally pitched by Mallozzi for SG-1's Season Ten, but was replaced by Alan McCullough's [[10.13 "The Road Not Taken" Episode Guide|"The Road Not Taken"]]. Alex Levine wrote of the shelving of Mallozzi's idea in his scifi.com blog: "When writers are coming up with new ideas, it’s often the case that one story, or part of a story, is too similar to a story idea that has already been written or agreed upon (or purchased, as is the case with freelance writers). When this happens, we say the idea “steps on” the other. And that happens quite a lot. So often really good ideas get squashed because they would be repetitive. And it happened on SG-1 just recently with two stories that at first glance don’t appear to be too similar but once you take a good look at them they are. Joe Mallozzi had come up with a time travel story, and Alan McCullough was working on an alternate reality story. Now it doesn’t take a genius to realize that if you go back in time, and change the future, that you’d be dealing with a present tense alternate reality. So they stepped on each other. And only one went ahead. But you’ll have to wait until later in the season until I tell you which one went ahead… but I’m taking the political middle ground – in my opinion, both episodes would be a lot of fun." — Alex Levine, Script Coordinator, SciFi.com Blog, July 25, 2006.

==Production Notes==
===Season Five Production and Direction===
* News on the Season Five pick-up was given by Variety on October 24, 2007. Executive producer and co-showrunner Joseph Mallozzi said in his personal blog that the writers will start breaking new stories on Monday, October 29, 2007.
* "John Smith came in to talk about the directors’ schedule. Well, I just want to say that we are thrilled at the prospect of working with Ken Girotti again and, oh yeah, that young up-and-comer." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, November 5, 2007.
* On December 31, 2007, Joseph Mallozzi published a "spoiler poem" for fans to decode for each episode in the second half of Season Four and the first part of Season Five. According to Mallozzi on January 20, 2008, fifteen episodes of Season Five are alluded to in the poem!
* "Down in the art department, James Robbins, our Production Designer, and Chris Beach, one of our Art Directors, are hard at work on the first few episodes. We've seen a number of excellent drawings and Chris is busy designing sets on the computer. It's going to be a busy construction season, so you can look forward to some interesting new sets and "looks". There have been lots of discussions about Ronon's hair, Teyla's child, and the Traveler's set. And the first day of principal photography is rapidly approaching." — Alex Levine in his scifi.com blog, January 25, 2008.
* "Finally, we talked about shifting the status quo in the Pegasus galaxy. When we first arrived in season one, the Wraith were the main threat and by the end of season four, the Wraith were significantly weakened. So an opportunity has opened up in the Pegasus galaxy, much in the way that it did in the Milky Way once the Goa’uld were defeated. We’re suggesting that in the past when societies reached a certain level of advancement, the Wraith would sweep in and cull them, so you didn’t see many technologically advanced societies, if any at all. So what we’re going to say is that the technologically advanced societies that do exist have been in hiding and fearful of drawing the Wraith’s attention. But now, with the Wraith significantly weakened, they’re taking the opportunity to step up. So we’re going to be introducing a technologically advanced society in season five." — Joseph Mallozzi in MGM interview, April 29, 2008.
* "We’ll be heading off for our month-long Summer hiatus in mid-June." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, May 26, 2008. (Most likely, this hiatus will begin June 16, since Mallozzi wants to turn in a first draft of his script for "Remnants" on June 13 so that the other writers will have something to review when they begin the filming break.)
===Characters/Actors===
* '''Dr. Carson Beckett'''
** Dr. Carson Beckett (played by Paul McGillion) will return in the back half of Season Four for a two-parter. At the end of Season Four, "...that door will be left open" for Carson to be alive and possibly have more appearances in Season Five. — Joseph Mallozzi in an interview at the Save Carson Beckett Campaign Site, April 9, 2007, and in his personal blog, April 12, 2007.
** Paul McGillion will guest in five episodes. — from NBC Universal press release, February 5, 2008.
** "I can’t tell you anything about season five because I really don’t know that much about what they have planned. I just got the first draft of the first script and they might kill me again if I tell you [laughs] I will be back for at least five episodes and I believe it will be peppered throughout the year, they will not be consecutive." — Paul McGillion, TrekMovie.com interview, February 22, 2008.
* '''Dr. Daniel Jackson'''
** "Alas, in response to many who have been asking, Daniel Jackson will not be making an appearance in season four [...] But, if we get a fifth season pick-up, it’s definitely something we definitely aim to pursue." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, August 8, 2007.
** "So far, we’ve got a terrific, BIG two-parter planned. I suspect that the page count in the Daniel/McKay scenes (featuring the two fastest-talking actors in show business) will have the scheduling gurus doing back-flips. Remember that new enemy I mentioned? Oh, and Marty G. will be doing the honors on this one." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, February 5, 2008.
** "Michael Shanks will be in two episodes. So far." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, February 5, 2008.
** "HE'S BAAACK: Former "Stargate: SG1" regular Michael Shanks reports he's been invited to come aboard "Stargate: Atlantis." "It was the most cryptic, enigmatic pitch of a story I've ever heard," say Shanks, who'll be reprising his popular "SG1" role as Dr. Daniel Jackson in a recurring capacity. "The pitch was: 'You go to Atlantis and something happens and Daniel has to help everybody to get rid of the bad guys that are coming.' I was like, 'Wow, did you spend a lot of time thinking that one up?' But it's one of those things. Stargate is like old home. It's always nice to be able to revisit that universe and those individuals and to play that character again." — Interview with Michael Shanks, ''The National Ledger'', March 13, 2008.
* '''Col. Samantha Carter'''
** Concerning Amanda Tapping and Jewel Staite: "If and when we do get the pick up, given everything we’ve seen so far, we would very much like to have both of them back." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, August 9, 2007.
** "So far I'm doing one [episode] off the top, which explains Carter leaving the show. And I don't think I'm telling tales out of school or jumping on anyone else's press release, but since it's been announced that Sanctuary's being picked up I'm obviously not going to be a regular character on Atlantis. I think everyone has pretty much figured that one out." — Amanda Tapping, Gateworld interview, February 2, 2008.
** "Said goodbye to Amanda and told her it was a pleasure working with her these past eight years. 'Don’t’ be a stranger,' I told her in a particularly emotional moment. 'Come back and say hi.' Then was quick add: 'But call first so we can clear your name with the guard at the front gate.'" — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, February 27, 2008.
** "Carter will be in Search and Rescue and is definitely slated for an episode in the back half. Any further appearances will be wholly dependent on Amanda’s schedule." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, March 20, 2008.
* '''Dr. Jennifer Keller'''
** Concerning Amanda Tapping and Jewel Staite: "If and when we do get the pick up, given everything we’ve seen so far, we would very much like to have both of them back." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, August 9, 2007.
** Jewel Staite has been added to the regular cast for Season Five. — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, February 5, 2008.
** "Jewel ... swung by the production offices today. Jewel was in for a fitting ...  We talked horror movies, Watchmen, and, of course, what we have in store for Keller in season 5. Like Rachel, she was excited about some of the planned developments..." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, February 11, 2008.
* '''Dr. Elizabeth Weir'''
** "Weir’s storyline will be revisited in season 5." — Martin Gero in Joseph Mallozzi's personal blog, January 6, 2008.
** "I thought it best to inform Weir fans of recent developments. Last year, after we shot that final surprise scene in BAMSR, I stopped by Torri’s trailer to congratulate her on a job well done and, also, to assure her that the door was left wide open for Weir‘s possible return (in some form, be it repli-Weir or other) the following season. Torri was excited by the prospect and, in particular, had great things to say about her new leather outfit (props to Val). As season four wrapped, Carl and Paul got to spinning and came up with a terrific storyline that picked up where that last scene of BAMSR left off. We had a story in place for one episode, the starting point of a potentially bigger arc. The script was written and we eventually contacted Torri who, after much consideration, turned down the offer to reprise the role of Elizabeth Weir for the episode. We are, of course, disappointed, but nevertheless respect Torri’s decision and wish her all the best in her future endeavors." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, February 8, 2008.
* '''Mitchell and Vala'''
** "We have no plans to bring Mitchell over in season 5. [...] To be honest, we haven’t given thought to a Vala story. '''In terms of a crossover character, Daniel is our one and only priority.''' Also, we haven’t spoken to Claudia since Continuum." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, January 21, 2008.
* '''Richard Woolsey'''
** Robert Picardo as Richard Woolsey will become part of the regular cast as Woolsey takes over leadership of the Expedition in Carter's place. — NBC Universal press release, February 5, 2008.
** Richard Woolsey will be appearing in 14 of the 20 episodes of Season Five. — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, February 15, 2008.
* '''Sheppard's Team'''
** Returning regular cast members: Joe Flanigan, David Hewlett, Rachel Luttrell, and Jason Momoa. — NBC Universal press release, February 5, 2008.
** "Rachel dropped by the production offices and we had a little chat about what’s in store for Teyla this year. She was not only happy but, admittedly, quite relieved with the creative route we’re taking." — Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, February 7, 2008.
* '''Stargate Command and SG-1 storylines'''
** Jack O'Neill - "Outlook not so good."; Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, February 8, 2008.
** Hank Landry - "unlikely"; Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, June 1, 2008.
** Walter Harriman - "unlikely"; Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, June 1, 2008.
** Ori - "Definitely no plans to introduce the Ori into Atlantis"; Joseph Mallozzi in his personal blog, June 2, 2008.
