It&#8217;s also a time for some award nominations (and wins, such as the People&#8217;s Choice Awards) and follow-ups on older stories worth revisiting:<\/p>\n<h3>Visual Effects Team Nominated for VES Award<\/h3>\n<p><em>Stargate Atlantis<\/em> visual effects team of Mark Savela, Shannon Gurney, Erica Henderson, and Jamie Yukio Kawano have been nominated in the Visual Effects in a Broadcast Series category for their work in Season Four&#8217;s premiere, &#8220;Adrift&#8221;. This is the sixth annual Visual Effects Society awards, which will be presented on Sunday, February 10, at the Kodak Theatre Grand Ballroom in Hollywood. This year&#8217;s lifetime achievement honoree is Steven Spielberg. For a complete run-down of the nominees, visit <a href=\"http:\/\/www.variety.com\/article\/VR1117978529.html?categoryId=13&amp;cs=1\">Variety: VES sailing with &#8216;Pirates&#8217;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><em>Extra!<\/em> Features <em>Stargate Atlantis<\/em><\/h3>\n<p><em>Extra!<\/em> correspondent Jerry Penacoli produced a segment about his time as &#8220;Genii Jerry&#8221; on location of &#8220;Harmony&#8221;, complete with fun behind-the-scenes acting tips provided by Amanda Tapping, Jason Momoa, Joe Flanigan, and David Hewlett. Meant to be shown the same night as the premiere of the episode, the segment was pre-empted (<a href=\"\/blog\/?p=1081\">see first story<\/a>) and moved to the weekend edition of the television entertainment magazine. A fan has put the short segment on <a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=WOqGnTN1MIM\">YouTube<\/a> for all to enjoy.<\/p>\n<h3>Big Finish Audio Dramas<\/h3>\n<p>Big Finish Productions has plans to produce several <em>Stargate SG-1<\/em> and <em>Stargate Atlantis<\/em> hour-long audio dramas, plays written for audio performances and narrated by one or two actors. James Swallow, one of the writers, has visited some of the Stargate fan forums and also has his own online presence in the form of a <a href=\"http:\/\/jmswallow.livejournal.com\/tag\/stargate\">LiveJournal blog<\/a>. He recently stated, &#8220;Regarding extra content, I&#8217;ve now been told that Big Finish intend to include an exclusive interview on each disc. There may be out-takes too, depending on permissions from the actors.&#8221; Fans will also be able to download the programs directly from the studio&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bigfinish.com\/\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>CD Release Schedule:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>April 30: SG-1 <em>Gift of the Gods<\/em> by Sally Malcolm. Read by David Nykl.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Swallow also said that the studio is &#8220;already moving forward with our next set of six releases&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Christopher Judge and <em>Turok<\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Christopher Judge provided the voice for one of the characters in <em>Turok<\/em> (<a href=\"\/blog\/?p=985\">see first story<\/a>), an SF first-person-shooter video game slated for release on February 5 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A featurette, slightly under five minutes long, has been posted at <a href=\"http:\/\/gamevideos.com\/video\/id\/17287\">GameVideos.com: Turok: Awakening the Giants<\/a> and includes information about the story, graphics, and voice talent behind the game (Judge is interviewed and is also shown in the recording studio).<\/p>\n<h3>Tapping&#8217;s <em>Sanctuary<\/em> Greenlit for SCI FI<\/h3>\n<p>Amanda Tapping, Damian Kindler, and Martin Wood (all <em>Stargate<\/em> veterans) have sold SCI FI Channel a 13-episode season of <em>Sanctuary<\/em>, &#8220;which originated online as the first high-definition sci-fi Web series,&#8221; according to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/hr\/content_display\/television\/news\/e3i877e4787aa6b183a13e0f713d3d7991c\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>. They&#8217;ll use most of the footage from the web series, which includes 90% CGI, but make some enhancements to the visual effects and background to show better on a TV screen.<\/p>\n<p><em>Sanctuary<\/em> will begin production in March (this might affect Tapping&#8217;s and Wood&#8217;s participation in Season Five of <em>Stargate Atlantis<\/em>; an official announcement is coming this Monday, according to executive producer and co-showrunner Joseph Mallozzi <a href=\"http:\/\/josephmallozzi.wordpress.com\/2008\/01\/30\/january-30-2008-and-the-big-news-iscoming-soon-plus-botm-nominees\/\">in his personal blog<\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While we wait for the release of Stargate: The Ark of Truth and for the cast and crew to resume filming Stargate Atlantis, many of the talent behind bringing the stories to life have been busy with various types of projects.
