Stargate<\/em>‘s Amanda Tapping<\/a> has been nominated for Best Actress in the 8th Annual Canadian Comedy Awards. According to the website for the Awards<\/a>:<\/p>\n

The awards are an artist driven recognition, with a voting membership of 18,000, including members of ACTRA, Canadian Actor’s Equity Association, The Directors Guild of Canada, Writers Guild of Canada and The Comedy Association: including Yuk Yuk’s, Second City and Just for Laughs.<\/p>\n

There are 20 Awards in 3 categories: film, television and live comedy.<\/p>\n

Representatives from each of the following organizations make up the foundations board of advisors: ACTRA , Director’s Guild , Writer’s Guild , Yuk Yuk’s , Second City , Just for Laughs, The Humber School of Comedy, Comedy VIP’s from across Canada.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It is also stated at the Award’s official site, “To qualify, nominees must either be a Canadian, a landed immigrant, have been born in Canada or have done the bulk of their work in Canada.”<\/p>\n

Tapping’s nomination is one of four for filmmaker John Bolton and his short film Breakdown<\/em> (Best Director, Best Writer, Best Actress, and Best Actor). According to the The Vancouver Sun<\/a>, the film will be shown at the outdoor Harmony Arts Festival in John Lawson Park in North Vancouver at 9:15pm on August 11.<\/p>\n

The story behind the short film Breakdown<\/em>, according to its IMDb<\/a> record, is as follows: “In May 2006, filmmakers John Bolton and Errin Clutton were given eight days and eight hundred dollars to produce the made-for-television disaster film “Breakdown”. Unfortunately, they spent the first seven days in casting. On the eighth day, they cut together “Breakdown” with the only footage they had – the video from the casting session. This is that film.” IMDb notes that the independent film’s tagline is “a disaster film disaster.”<\/p>\n

The film also includes Stargate<\/em> veterans Sonya Salomaa<\/a> (Charlotte Mayfield\/Athena), Garry Chalk<\/a> (Colonel Chekov), Kendall Cross<\/a> (Julia Donovan), Mike Coleman (Med Tech in “The Powers That Be”), and Winston Rekert<\/a> (Cordesh) who was also nominated for his role in the film in the Best Actor category.<\/p>\n
