==Geopolitical Structure and History==

Once a planet that supported life as evidenced by the roots 
of trees, which exist throughout the underground facility, 
Hadante is now purely used to house those condemned to life 
imprisonment by the Taldor.

The colony is a lawless society, the Taldor policy being to 
transport the prisoners there and other than to feed them 
once a day through the stargate, forget them. As the planet 
has few natural resources, it is governed by brute strength 
and survival of the fittest. Although an inmate called 
Vishnor leads through intimidation of the others, he in 
turn is subordinate to Linea, the only female prisoner we 
encounter. Linea seems to hold a position of domination 
through fear over the population of Hadante. When SG-1 
first arrive, Linea tells the other prisoners that Carter 
is under her protection and can be taken by no man, 
indicating the place of females in this isolated society.

When Daniel inadvertently picks a fight with Vishnor, he 
becomes the alpha male in the colony after winning the 
fight with Linea's unseen help. The other prisoners defer 
to his position and he takes Vishnor's role as the first at 
the food each day, serving Linea, his friends and himself 
before allowing the other inmates access to the limited 
food supply.

Life for the other inmates of Hadante is a delicate balance 
of having strong friends and buying favours. The colony is 
no place to show weakness, as Jack explains to Daniel when 
he insists that he should not wear his glasses. Both Carter 
and Teal'c are approached by an inmate, known as Scavenger, 
with offers of gifts (taken from the body of another dead 
prisoner) and friendship as Teal'c and Carter with her 
protected status are seen as useful allies to have. Nothing 
is wasted on Hadante, with limited resources and no contact 
with any other society, all they have to bargain with is 
what they were sent through the gate with or what they can 
steal or murder for.

Some of the inmates have come to believe that escape is 
possible by stepping into the vortex of a forming wormhole 
and in their desperation have tried to leave that way, 
resulting in their deaths.
