==Geopolitical Structure and History== 
Nothing is known about the inhabitants of the planet except that they had a city.  It is not even clear if they were even human.  Because of the decaying orbit of their moon, seismic disturbances and weather anomalies were affecting the planet.  Dr. Daniel Jackson and an unnamed team were assigned to help relocate the population of P3L-997 to safe world.  While working on the relocation, Daniel's team and the natives were trapped on P3L-997, despite attempts to dial Stargate Command and the Alpha Site.  

Dr. Jay Felger had created a computer virus for the DHDs that work the Stargate.  Although he intended it to work on just one Stargate in Ba'al's realm, Ba'al had the virus altered so that it affected all of the DHDs.  The SGC, with its dialing computer, remained unaffected, so they could dial out, but no one could dial in to any other location...throughout the galaxy.

As Daniel reported through the MALP communique, flood waters were beginning to rise, but everyone was still okay.  Maj. Carter and Dr. Felger sent a patch to Dr. Jackson, trying to trigger a DHD correlative update to stop Avenger from spreading.  The patch did not work, partially because they did not realize Ba'al's interference.

By this point, the flood waters were rising rapidly, and the earthquake tremors were causing a lot of rogue waves. Daniel's team estimated that the city would be under water within forty-eight hours.  As the SGC kept in touch with the group, Daniel learned that Sam and Jay had left to Ba'al's planet to try and fix the problem.  He waited to hear word of their success for as long as he could, but the group eventually had to abandon the Stargate and move to higher ground for safety's sake.

Luckily, Sam and Jay fixed the problem, and Daniel Jackson's team were able to evacuate successfully to the Alpha Site.
