HBO Picks Up "Game of Thrones" As Series

The Hollywood Reporter (The Live Feed) has announced that HBO has picked up Game of Thrones as a new series. Stargate Atlantis star Jason Momoa was in the pilot and, according to the Des Moines Register, will be returning to his role as Khal Drogo when filming begins in June (he’ll be finished with filming Conan by then).

THR:TLF stated, “The premium network has picked up the project for a first season debut next spring…. Nine episodes plus the pilot have been ordered. Production will begin in Belfast this June.” Additionally, there’s a potential for several seasons, which are based on the book series penned by George R.R. Martin: “The four-and-counting books in the series would each be used as one season of the series.”

The article also includes the first image released from the pilot, as well as a link to a photo gallery of the cast, which is led by Sean Bean.

  1. Hmm…based on what happens in the books, it’s hard to see how Drogo will be back. I hope Jason does return, though!

  2. Does he die? Man, that’s a bummer. Maybe they’re going to spread that out a little across the episodes.
