Sci Fi Mag "Top 10's" for SG-1

Sci Fi Magazine’s August 2006 issue has a great tribute to SG-1’s 200th episode, including small interviews with the cast and crew. Also included are a bunch of “Top Ten” lists that were quite thoughtfully compiled by author Melissa Perenson. We urge everyone to buy the magazine, but in the meantime, here are a few of the 15 (!) lists.

10 Sexiest Stargaters

1. Michael Shanks (Dr. Daniel Jackson). SGC’s resident archaelogist wears his emotions on the outside, exuding an atypical combination of warmth and strength.

2. Richard Dean Anderson (Maj. Gen. Jack O’Neill). Impudent, sarcastic wit paired with raw sex appeal—even with the silver hair.

3. Amanda Tapping (Lt. Col. Samanta Carter). Brains and beauty—plus she’s a mean shot with a P-90.

4. Ben Browder (Col. Cameron Mitchell (sic)). SG-1’s newest flyboy is cool and confident, with a cocky sense of humor to match.

5. Christopher Judge (Teal’c). Exactly what is the Jaffa workout regimen, again?

6. Claudia Black (Vala Mal Doran). Feisty and cunning, this former Goa’uld host and all-around rogue looks great in skin-tight black.

7. Vanessa Angel (Anise/Freya). Seductive Tok’ra operative knows how to use her wile.

8. Garwin Sanford (Narim). This Tollan ally has a rugged yet gentle quality.

9. Cliff Simon (System Lord Ba’al). Goateed Goa’uld may be bad, but he’s got bad-boy appeal.

10. Peter Flemming (Agent Malcolm Barrett). Not all men in black are generic operatives—this one stands out from the crowd.

Top 10 Episodes

1. “Reckoning, Part 2,” Season 8. After so many years, it is rare for a payoff to be rich and fulfilling. But “Reckoning” delivers in spades, with critical battles against the Tau’ri’s enemies.

2. “Heroes, Part 2,” Season 7. Poignant and moving, this episode shows us a yet-unseen side to the SGC, when one of the series’ staples—Dr. Janet Fraiser—dies in the line of duty.

3. “The Lost City, Part 2,” Season 7. O’Neill exercises the power of the Ancients from an outpost in Antarctica—saving Earth from Anubis’ impending attack.

4. “Window of Opportunity,” Season 4. One of the series’ most humorous episodes—and one of it most memorable.

5. “The Fifth Race,” Season 2. This episode marks the first time the series explores the Ancients’ Repository of Knowledge—and the impact it has on O’Neill, who ends up absorbing it into his brain.

6. “Within the Serpents’ Grasp,” Season 1. In an attempt to thwart Apophis’ attack on Earth, SG-1 defies orders and gates to an address—which turns out to be on Apophis’ ship.

7. “Threads,” Season 8. Although Stargate has always distinguished itself through its attention to character development, this characters-centric episode is a departure for the series—albeit on that’s very satisfying for longtime viewers.

8. “Full Circle,” Season 6. A pivotal episode in which, at the behest of the still-ascended Daniel, SG-1 tries to help the people of Abydos, and Anubis’ true form is revealed.

9. “The Devil You Know,” Season 3. Teal’c must rescue SG-1 and Jacob Carter/Selmak from Sokar’s grasp; Apophis attempts to assume power, again.

10. “Camelot,” Season 9. The conclusion of the ninth season advances the current mythology and leaves the promise of a whole new chaos that may be unleashed on the Milky Way galaxy.
