SG-1 fans have plenty of cause for celebration. Sci Fi Channel, the popular
series' new home since June of this year, announced recently that it is
renewing the hit show for a seventh season. And in a double dose of stellar
news, actor Michael Shanks, who starred on the series for five seasons
as Egyptologist Daniel Jackson, will return to the show for its upcoming
seventh season.
As Jackson, Shanks became a fan favorite early on in the evolution of the series. He played the role for five consecutive seasons but did not return for the show's sixth season. Whatever differences might have existed between Shanks and the show's production team are now in the past, as the actor will join shooting for the new season when the cast reunites in Vancouver (Canada) in early 2003. The Jackson character "ascended" during the final episode of the fifth season but returned during an episode of the sixth season, appearing to Air Force Colonel Jack O'Neill (Anderson) during a pivotal episode. So, how will Shanks' character be reintroduced into the series? The show's writers are mum for now but have promised to clue us in well before the new season begins its broadcast schedule on Sci Fi Channel. Stay tuned ...
