Summary
Alec Colson was a successful businessman (Colson Industries) who felt that the existence of alien life and the threats that some aliens posed were something the whole world had the right to know at any cost (8.08 "Covenant"). Eventually, his attempts at bringing the knowledge of alien life (namely, of the Asgard) and of the Stargate Program made him the target of The Trust, an Earth-based secret organization that operated above the law in their attempts to keep the existence of alien life a secret. He was given refuge on the Alpha Site where he could continue designing engines for space-worthy fighter jets, such as the F-302.
