Vala tells Daniel about her early life

Early Life

The name of the planet on which Vala was born is not known, but her cultural background suggests that her society had customs similar to those of Earth, specifically in the definition of roles within a family group. It hasn't been revealed what happened to her mother, but only that her father remarried to give Vala a step-mother. Vala described his woman, named Adria, as being a "wicked woman". Vala's description of her father's rantings about attempting to raise children properly and all they do is give the parents grief might have indicated that she resented her father's attempts to define her as she was growing up. (10.01 "Flesh and Blood")

According to Vala, she had been engaged to be married before she was taken as an unwilling host to the Goa'uld Qetesh. (9.04 "The Ties That Bind")

Qetesh

Vala as Qetesh

The circumstances of Vala's becoming the host to the Goa'uld Qetesh and how long she hosted the symbiote are currently unknown. About four years prior to Vala's reuniting with Daniel after their initial encounter on the Prometheus, a Tok'ra came to her planet and started a rebellion which resulted in her being captured and beaten as the cruel ruler Qetesh. The Tok'ra took pity on her, removed the symbiote, and nursed her back to health. Afterwards, she fled her home planet because her own people had treated her with nothing but disgust, even spitting upon her, because they were unable to differentiate the actions of the symbiote from those of the host. She found refuge on the planet P8X-412, and while there, she impersonated Qetesh so that she could get back on her feet. Vala claimed to never have beaten or killed any of those who served her, but she did take advantage of the people's adoration to see to her personal comfort and profit. She didn't stay on the planet very long, but she did keep some of her treasures there as she participated in various crimes as a con artist and thief who traded goods across the galaxy. (9.04 "The Ties That Bind", 9.05 "The Powers That Be")

Qetesh ruled over P8X-412 for about seven years (three of those years as the Goa'uld Qetesh and four of them as Vala's posing as Qetesh). She also commanded a fleet which was victorious in a battle against Ba'al's fleet at Selenis, resulting in the crippling of his flagship and the deaths of 10,000 of his best Jaffa. (9.05 "The Powers That Be", 10.04 "Insiders")

While Vala was the host to Qetesh, she and another Goa'uld named Athena formed a tenuous partnership in their search for the legendary Clava Thessara Infinitas, a device supposedly left by the Ancients before they ascended which led to a great treasure. Even though the object was an elaborate hoax, Qetesh led Athena to believe that she had the code which would unlock the map to the treasure. Qetesh was removed from Vala before Athena discovered her deception. Later, Athena became one of the Goa'uld who infiltrated The Trust on Earth, and she used the vast network to track down Vala after she joined the SGC. She captured Vala in order to extract Qetesh's buried memories concerning the code, but Vala escaped from her captors before any significant memories could be brought forth. (10.08 "Memento Mori")

Free Agent

Vala points a gun with confidence

During those four years after being freed from Qetesh, Vala began her life as a free agent. All of her activities appeared to have been to satisfy her own selfish needs and desires. She accumulated wealth in all types of material things and enjoyed an exciting life trading on the black market. After the fall of the Goa'uld, she took advantage of the many riches which flooded the market. Along the way, Vala developed "relationships" with thieves, smugglers, and mercenaries. Many of these smugglers and mercenaries banded together to take advantage of the power vacuum left by the demise of the Goa'uld, called themselves the Lucian Alliance, and began terrorizing planets inhabited by former slaves. Vala didn't join the Lucian Alliance, but she often did business with them. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound", 9.04 "The Ties That Bind", 10.09 "Company of Thieves")

Vala apparently enjoyed the life and became very good at it. She used the Goa'uld knowledge left behind by Qetesh to develop a strong understanding of alien technology. She also benefited from the naquadah in her blood by being able to operate Goa'uld technology, such as the healing device and ribbon device, even after she no longer hosted the symbiote. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound", 9.05 "The Powers That Be")

After joining the SGC, Vala beneficially used her unique knowledge and abilities gained as a former host and trader on the black market. (10.04 "Insiders", 10.05 "Uninvited", 10.09 "Company of Thieves")

Meeting Daniel Jackson

Vala meets Daniel

Vala's fateful meeting of Daniel Jackson occurred when she sent out a distress signal which was intercepted by the Prometheus which was on a rescue mission to the Pegasus Galaxy to determine the fate of the Atlantis Expedition Team from which the SGC had not heard since they left. Daniel was the mission specialist because he was considered the world's foremost expert on the Ancients. Because they believed that the distress call could be genuine and that someone truly needed help, Gen. Hammond ordered the ship to intercept the al'kesh which was the source of the call. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")

As soon as the Prometheus was in ring transporter range, Vala boarded the Earth ship wearing the protective armor of a Kull Warrior. She quickly disabled everyone on the ship and transported them to the crippled al'kesh. Daniel managed to avoid capture and became the only crewmember left onboard. He attempted to kill the Kull Warrior with the SGC's nullification weapon, but, because she wasn't a Kull Warrior, the weapon was ineffective. She promptly shot him with the zat and tied him to the command chair. When he regained consciousness, Daniel attempted to strike up a conversation with the Warrior and then came to find out that it was a woman in the armor. Vala tortured Daniel, striking him and shooting him with the Kull Warrior's laser weapon, in order to get the codes to unlock the ship's command systems, but he claimed he didn't have the codes. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")

Vala healed Daniel's wound from the laser weapon with a small hand-held healing device. Daniel thought that Vala was a Goa'uld because she could operate the healing device, but she said that she was a former host. She claimed that having been a former host of a Goa'uld permitted her to not only use the Goa'uld technology, but also to understand the systems of the Prometheus. She said that the technology was primitive. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")

Vala used every trick in the book to get information out of Daniel. When physical torture didn't get her the results she needed, she tried sexual distraction. Daniel, however, matched her strategies with his own and managed to get out of his binds and overcome Vala while she was in the engine room setting the course for her rendezvous with buyers. These buyers were trading a large chest full of weapons grade naquadah, but Daniel thought that they were Vala's people, refugees from a planet which had been taken by Camulus and was vulnerable to Ba'al's forces after Camulus' defeat. Vala told Daniel that a Tok'ra had come to her planet ten years ago and started a rebellion against the ruling Goa'uld. She just so happened to be the host to that Goa'uld. The people captured her and tortured her, but the Tok'ra took pity and removed the symbiote and nursed her back to health. She said her people were nearly wiped out by Camulus and were now threatened by Ba'al. She wanted the Prometheus to help rescue her people from the moon to which they had fled and take them to a planet far from Goa'uld rule. Daniel locked Vala up in the brig and met the buyers, thinking they were her people. But, he had the presence of mind to put on the protective outer armor of the Kull Warrior's suit. When he met the two alien buyers, he realized that Vala was stealing the Prometheus in order to sell it. He tried to break off the deal, but the aliens pulled their weapons on him. Then, the Prometheus was attacked by Goa'uld death gliders, most likely those belonging to Ba'al. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")

Daniel managed to get back to the Prometheus and take off, but the ship took a lot of damage. Vala persuaded him to let her out of the brig so that she could help him fight the al'kesh and death gliders. She still had control of the ship's systems because she had reprogrammed the ship's access codes. With shields failing and weapons near depletion, it appeared that they were about to be destroyed when Gen. Hammond and the rest of the Prometheus crew came to their rescue in the al'kesh to which Vala had abandoned them. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")

Daniel zatted Vala and returned her to the brig. While he was with the bridge crew, she made her escape, taking the al'kesh into hyperspace and jamming the Prometheus's sensors so that they could not follow. Even though Vala had attempted to steal the Prometheus and abandon the crew on a disabled ship in the middle of Ba'al's territory, Daniel still couldn't help but respect her abilities as she made her escape. Unfortunately, the Prometheus had seen too much hull damage for them to complete their rescue mission to the Pegasus Galaxy. (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")

The Discovery of Avalon

Daniel and Vala discuss the Avalon Tablet

Daniel remained in Vala's mind after they parted ways. He had explained to her that he was an archaeologist and historian who studied ancient cultures while he tried to convince her that he knew nothing about the operation of the Prometheus (he proved to be as much of a liar as Vala because he actually did know the codes and how to operate the ship). (8.12 "Prometheus Unbound")

So, after the fall of the System Lords, Vala happened upon a tablet which was offered on the black market (but Vala claimed she stole the tablet) which was said to lead to a treasure on Earth. Even though she possessed the cipher for the encoded tablet, she didn't know how to use the information to find the treasure. She also had no knowledge of Earth. She sought Daniel's help, and Daniel agreed to meet with her, feeling that perhaps she did have something of value to offer since Atlantis had been discovered through the writings on an Ancient tablet. Gen. Landry, the new commander of the SGC, sent SG-12 to clear Vala's entry into the SGC base. They found no weapons or other technology which could pose a threat. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1")

When Vala arrived at the SGC, she quickly worked through introductions and asked for "my Daniel." When Daniel entered the briefing room to see the tablet, Vala started toward him with the composure of one who was truly glad to see him, but his abruptness caused her to change her approach to hide her disappointment. She claimed that she had lied to him about the tablet and had only contacted him to tell him that she was pregnant and that there was a one in ten chance that the baby was his. Daniel started to leave the room without comment, but Gen. Landry insisted that he look at the tablet since he was the one who had suggested that Vala come. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1")

Daniel took interest in the tablet and started doing the decoding and translating. Vala kept him company in his lab which he had started packing because he was reassigned to go to Atlantis via the Daedalus spaceship. While Daniel was distracted by the interesting carvings of the Kor Mak bracelets, Vala clamped one of the bracelets on him and then on herself as insurance that she'd receive her fair share of the treasure. The bracelets formed a physiological link between the wearers. Daniel had, in effect, become Vala's prisoner. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1")

Attempts to remove the bracelet were futile and Daniel soon collapsed from the bracelet's effects. The physiological link would cause the death of both of the wearers if they left each other's proximity for a certain length of time. Dr. Bill Lee determined that Daniel and Vala could not be any farther than 100 feet apart for over a half an hour before they'd both start feeling the side effects of the separation. Because of the bracelets, Daniel missed his ride on the Daedalus and thus his dream for going to Atlantis was dashed again by Vala. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1")

Daniel returned to researching the tablet and determined that it was written by an Ancient named Myrddin who had left Atlantis 10,000 years ago and returned to Earth. He recognized the name Myrddin as being one of the names of Merlin, the wizard of Arthurian legends. Using this information, he concluded that the best location for the treasure spoken about in the tablet was in Glastonbury Tor, the location of which was said to be that of Avalon. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1")

Using the Asgard sensors on the Prometheus, Avalon's underground caverns were discovered. Vala participated in the discussion on how to access the caverns since the Asgard beaming technology on the Prometheus wasn't able to penetrate the shielding. Vala recommended the ring transporter because they were of Ancient design. Her suggestion proved valid and they entered the caverns expecting to find the treasure, but the place was empty. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1")

A holographic sword in the stone and recording of Merlin appeared before them. Merlin welcomed them to the storehouse of the riches of Ambrosius Aurelianus, the legendary King Arthur. But, before Merlin would permit them to take the treasures, they had to prove themselves having "truth of spirit" and "wealth of knowledge". Vala was excited about the prospect of gaining access to the treasure, but Daniel told her that "truth of spirit" was a problem for her. Immediately defensive, Vala replied, "You know nothing about me." Daniel retorted, "Because everything that comes out of your mouth is a lie." (9.01 "Avalon Part 1")

Daniel and Vala in the test chamber

Because they were linked by the Kor Mak bracelets, Daniel and Vala explored the caverns together while Mitchell and Teal'c teamed up and headed off in a different direction. Daniel and Vala found a chamber which immediately lit when they placed their feet inside. Once both of them cleared the threshold, a large stone come down from within the ceiling and entrapped them. Neither of them appeared to be very surprised by their entrapment because Daniel soon recognized that they were to prove themselves worthy of the treasure by passing a test. This test was the "truth of spirit" one and it tempted Vala with the promise of the treasure, labeling one of two pots situated on a pedestal in the middle of the room with the words, "The treasure is in this pot." She didn't allow Daniel time to study the puzzle and quickly set off the booby trap by removing the lid on the pot which so happened to be empty. The ceiling started to lower, threatening to squish them unless the puzzle could be solved correctly. Finally, Daniel figured out the puzzle, replaced both lids, and lifted the lid on the pot labeled, "The universe is infinite," because that was the true statement. The ceiling returned to its rightful position and the stone barrier withdrew to give them their freedom. When they realized that Mitchell and Teal'c could very possibly be in the same dire situation in their test chamber, Daniel at once went to help them read the Ancient text on their puzzle. Vala, however, lingered behind and took the coin which was inside the pot. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1", 9.02 "Avalon Part 2")

After Mitchell figured out his puzzle with Daniel's prompting, the group reassembled in the main chamber where the sword in the stone awaited them. Once Mitchell removed the sword from the stone, he had to fight a holographic knight. Even though he won the battle, no treasure was revealed. Theorizing that the scanners were solely on Mitchell because he defeated the knight, the rest of the group left him behind, hoping that the treasure would be revealed to him. Unfortunately, the cavern began to shake and Mitchell returned to the Prometheus empty-handed, declaring to Daniel that they must have done something wrong. Daniel immediately knew that it was Vala who had done the bad deed and he challenged her with the "truth of spirit" requirement. Vala at first acted offended, but then relinquished the coin. After Mitchell returned the coin and the sword to their previous positions, the treasure was revealed. (9.02 "Avalon Part 2")

Vala was delighted. She showered herself with the coins. She found a tiara and fitted it on top of her head. But, then, she was disappointed when Daniel said that she wouldn't be able to keep any of the treasure. This treasure belonged to Britain. (9.02 "Avalon Part 2")

But, Daniel did find Ancient writings and Vala expressed interest in that. She knew that the Ancients had been the most advanced race which ever lived in the galaxy and that they had left behind extremely advanced and powerful technology. She was excited more about the prospect of gaining Ancient knowledge and technology than she was with the promise of the material wealth in the caverns of Avalon, because in her view, "Knowledge is power." (9.02 "Avalon Part 2")

Meeting the Ori

Daniel and Vala activate the communications device

Continuing to insist that she get her fair share of the findings uncovered by her Ancient tablet, Vala refused to disengage the Kor Mak bracelets from herself and Daniel. With only two communications stones available to activate the Ancient terminal found in Avalon, Daniel and Vala become willing participants to activate the device, hoping to make contact with an advanced civilization willing to share their knowledge and technology. Daniel believed it was a communications device, but Vala insisted that it could be a transporter and that she needed to be with him in case he needed help getting back home. (9.02 "Avalon Part 2")

Upon activating the terminal, the pair's minds were linked to a human married couple named Harrid and Sallis in the village Ver Ager in a distant galaxy. Because Harrid and Sallis possessed merely the stones, the communication link worked only one way and Daniel and Vala overtook their minds and bodies while their consciousnesses were buried. (9.02 "Avalon Part 2")

Trying their best to fit in, Daniel and Vala began to explore the village. They were expecting a technologically advanced civilization — the original home of the Ancients — but what they found was a medieval-like society. The people were devout followers to gods known as the Ori. Daniel and Vala eventually figured out that these Ori were Ascended Beings who demanded to be worshipped as the creators of humanity. (9.02 "Avalon Part 2")

They were befriended by a man named Fannis who was a close friend to Harrid and Sallis. As it turned out, the three of them were involved in a secret circle of heretics who found Ancient artifacts that disproved the Ori's story that they created man. (9.02 "Avalon Part 2")

Fannis told Vala that she had to pose as Sallis who was an acquaintance of the village administrator's wife in order to keep their actions above suspicion. Vala felt that she could successfully bluff her way through a "sharing of leaves" gathering being hosted in the influential woman's home. Unfortunately, she didn't know the rituals and prayers of the tea and the administrator's wife accused her of being "overcome". The remedy for such a condition is purification by fire. Vala was tied to the altar in the middle of the village and set on fire, with Daniel frantically trying to convince the administrator that both Sallis and Vala were innocent, but he was forced to watch in horror as Vala, in Sallis's body, died a horrific death. At the moment of Sallis's death, Vala's body back at the SGC went into cardiac arrest. (9.02 "Avalon Part 2")

One of the Ori's representatives, a Prior, caused the fire to burn out before Sallis's body was reduced to ashes. Daniel was released by the men who held him back from Vala's sacrifice, and while all the other villagers kneeled in reverence to the Prior, he went to the charred remains and caressed them. The Prior activated his staff and revived Sallis and Vala before Daniel's eyes. Vala, visibly shaken, clung to Daniel for a brief while until she gathered the strength to stand. Vala's body also revived mysteriously to the amazement of Dr. Lam, the SGC's new Chief Medical Officer. (9.02 "Avalon Part 2")

Daniel and Vala on Celestis

The Prior took Daniel and Vala to the City of the Gods on the Plains of Celestis via a ring transporter. There, Daniel met the Doci, the man who spoke the words of the Ori by allowing his body to be temporarily possessed by the Beings. The Doci told Daniel that he had sent a Prior to Daniel's home galaxy to spread the news of Origin, the religion of the Ori. If anyone refused to worship the Ori, they would be destroyed. (9.03 "Origin Part 3")

When Daniel told Vala of the Ori's intentions, Vala immediately recognized that he was blaming himself for this new galactic threat. Repeatedly, Vala tried to convince him that they were not at fault, but Daniel appeared to remain doubtful. They decided that they needed to contact Earth immediately about the Ori and somehow give Harrid and Sallis their bodies back. (9.03 "Origin Part 3")

Using Daniel and Vala as bait to reveal other heretics in the village, the Doci sent the two back to Ver Ager. Fannis came to them under the cover of night and helped them make contact with Earth by activating a communications terminal which they had found in the old burial grounds outside the village. Daniel and Vala immediately woke up in the SGC infirmary as soon as the stones were inserted into the terminal, and they barely had enough time to warn Dr. Lam of the Priors and the Ori. The Prior who had revived Vala tracked them down, deactivated the communications device, and killed Fannis on the spot. The villagers then tied both Daniel and Vala, still in the bodies of Harrid and Sallis, to the altar. As Daniel's and Vala's bodies started to show the stress of the sacrifice, Mitchell and Teal'c destroyed the terminal in the Stargate's unstable vortex. Immediately, Daniel and Vala returned to consciousness in their own bodies at the SGC, but, sadly, Harrid and Sallis perished in the fire. (9.03 "Origin Part 3")

Joining the Fight

The genuine concern felt by others about Vala's brush with death revealed that she was starting to find friends among those of the SGC. She released Daniel from the Kor Mak bracelet and contributed in the debriefing concerning her link with Sallis. She offered her expertise as a former host to a Goa'uld, as well as a free agent who knew the pulse of the galaxy after the fall of the System Lords. (9.03 "Origin Part 3")

Vala fails at seducing Daniel

Even though Vala had made progress in creating these positive relationships with the people of the SGC, she was her own worst enemy because she had no restraint with her own words and actions.

  • She attempted to steal a valuable artifact from Daniel as she was about to leave Earth after releasing him from the Kor Mak bracelets. (9.04 "The Ties That Bind")
  • She insulted the chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee as she, Daniel, Teal'c, and Gen. Landry testified concerning the Ori threat and the need for the Committee to continue approval of government funding of the SGC. This led Landry to have to seek financial aid from the International Oversight Committee (later called International Oversight Advisory), as well as capitulate to the dictates of the Oversight Committee's watchdog. (9.04 "The Ties That Bind")
  • After discovering that the physiological link with Daniel wasn't severed after removing the bracelets, she led him on a dangerous mission to acquire information on how to break the bond from one of her former lovers who had studied the bracelets' effects. This adventure introduced Daniel, Teal'c, and Mitchell to her life as a free agent in the galaxy, full of thieves, smugglers, and mercenaries. Her double crossings with some of these individuals put the three on top of the Lucian Alliance's most wanted list. The Alliance was comprised of smugglers and mercenaries who had banded together to take advantage of the power vacuum which resulted from the demise of the System Lords and were not to be taken lightly. (9.04 "The Ties That Bind")
  • In an attempt to relieve her boredom, she got past her security guard and tried to seduce Daniel in his VIP bedroom. This is when Daniel described her sexual behavior so accurately that she had to cover up her hurt feelings by insulting him, making believe that her emotional reaction was a ploy to make him feel guilty for rejecting her. (9.04 "The Ties That Bind")

Continuing in her unrestrained behavior, Vala stole top secret files to get information about places which had been visited by Priors of the Ori. She recognized one of the planets on the list as one which she had once ruled as Qetesh and persuaded Mitchell to take her to P8X-412 so that she could warn them about the Ori, saying that the people trusted her. Upon arrival, she posed as Qetesh, warned her people through a god's dictate, and gathered up her treasures to take with her before the Prior returned. Vala treated Daniel, Teal'c, and Mitchell like they were her servants. (9.05 "The Powers That Be")

Vala imprisoned on P8X-412

Daniel didn't let her get away with her arrogance and greed, however. He insisted that she tell the people of the planet the truth about posing as a god so that they would be more informed about the deception of false gods. Vala resisted telling the truth, but finally gave in to Daniel's request. She was put in jail for this confession and sentenced to death. Mitchell managed to have the people give her a trial, which she had named Mal Doran after herself, in which arguments would be presented on both sides and the people would vote on the sentencing. The trial was interrupted by the Prior who returned to hear the people's decision concerning worshipping the Ori. Daniel challenged him, but the Prior said that the people were the ones who had to choose. (9.05 "The Powers That Be")

To help this choice along, the Prior inflicted the people with a rapidly mutating virus which only he could cure. Vala attempted to cure all of the people who were stricken by using the Goa'uld healing device, but they continued to relapse and she grew weaker after each use. After one of Vala's most devoted followers, Azdak, succumbed, Vala attempted to kill the Prior with a P-90, but he used his mental powers and stopped the bullets midair. The Prior cured all the people after they pledged their devotion to the Ori and Vala was freed so that she could spread the word of the Ori's victory there. (9.05 "The Powers That Be")

After this rather sobering experience, Vala continued to attempt to fit into life at the base. Because the effects of the bracelets would wear off over time, she spent most of her time with Daniel. When Daniel took breaks to play basketball with Teal'c and Mitchell, Vala joined in. (9.06 "Beachhead")

When the Ori attempted to form a foothold in the Milky Way Galaxy by building an enormous Stargate through which a fleet of ships could come, Vala accompanied Daniel on the Prometheus so that he could be present if his expertise was needed to negotiate with the Prior. After negotiations failed, the team tried to think of a way to stop the progress of the construction of the "Supergate". Vala listened to all of the technical information and determined that if a cargo ship could substitute for one of the Supergate's segments, the Supergate would lose integrity. But, because Vala had done nothing but offer sarcastic quips and sexually-laden innuendo during the entire mission, no one listened to her. She took matters into her own hands, using the ring transporter to board the cargo ship, and piloted it into the forming Supergate. Her idea worked and the Supergate blew apart. However, her attempt at using the ring transporter to escape the cargo ship's destruction failed. The Supergate's power source, a black hole, pulled her matter stream in. Carter theorized that Vala's matter stream was transported to the Ori's home galaxy. (9.06 "Beachhead")

Life in the Ori's Galaxy

Vala and Tomin

As Carter correctly theorized, Vala was indeed transported to the Ori's home galaxy. She was discovered unconscious on the ring platform of Ver Isca by a villager named Tomin. He took her into his home and nursed her back to health. While there, Vala discovered she was mysteriously pregnant and in her attempt to stay alive among the Ori followers who would have killed her for becoming pregnant outside of marriage, she convinced Tomin the baby was his by marrying him as soon as she confirmed she was indeed pregnant. Tomin was a devout follower of the Ori, though somewhat of an outcast among his people because he was crippled. Then, the Prior of his village healed him and he eagerly joined the military who would be onboard the spaceships which were destined for the Milky Way Galaxy. Vala befriended two people involved in an anti-Ori movement to destroy the spaceships when they were activated by the Priors. This plan, if successful, would also kill many Ori worshippers, including Tomin. (9.19 "Crusade Part 1")

Desperate to find a way to contact anyone in the Milky Way, Vala revealed to Seevis and Denya, the two heretics, who she was and how she got there. She also explained to them how the Ori had come to know of the humans in the Milky Way. Seevis revealed that they had intercepted the shipment of the very same communications terminal and stones which Harrid, Sallis, and Fannis had found near Ver Ager. Using the device, Vala contacted the SGC by using Daniel as her communications conduit. She had a chance to warn the SGC that there was indeed another Supergate and that the ships were on their way because Seevis's plan to destroy the ships failed. (9.19 "Crusade Part 1")

Vala had a chance to tell her story, which included the mysterious pregnancy which was revealed to her to be the will of the Ori, before her communications with the SGC were cut off. Tomin had been sent by a Prior to rid the village of the heretics. He destroyed the communications terminal and then killed Seevis and Denya. He was about to kill Vala, but she convinced him that she was on his side and that she could not get through her pregnancy without him. She asked to join him on the Ori spaceship destined for the Milky Way. (9.19 "Crusade Part 1")

Return to the Milky Way Galaxy

Vala and Tomin at birth of Adria

Four Ori warships went to the Milky Way Galaxy through the completed Supergate as the first wave of the invasion. Vala's ship was among them, but all she could do was watch helplessly as the ships belonging to the galaxy's allied fleet desperately attempted to stop the Ori's invasion. As Vala witnessed the slaughter, her labor pains began. She gave birth to her daughter as the warships were en route to Chulak, the first planet the Ori aimed to conquer in the galaxy. (9.20 "Camelot Part 2", 10.01 "Flesh and Blood Part 3")

Vala's baby girl was whisked away before she even got to look upon her. At the same time, the Prior announced that the child was the Orici, the one from whom all will learn. It was her destiny to lead the armies of the Ori in the crusade to convert the people of the galaxy into worshippers or to destroy them if they refused. (10.01 "Flesh and Blood Part 3")

Tomin pursuaded the Prior to permit Vala to meet her child. Not long after giving birth, Adria came to her appearing to be about the age of four years. The child touched Vala and relieved her of the pain from giving birth and assured her that she would show Vala the Path. Soon thereafter, Vala was able to move about freely on the ship and she visited Adria in her private chambers. Once again, Adria's rapid growth was evident as she appeared to be about seven years old. It was at this point that Vala gave her daughter her name, claiming that her mother was named Adria and she admired her as a strong woman, but in reality Adria was Vala's "wicked of a woman" step-mother. The Orici didn't seem to mind because she liked the sound of the name, but told Vala that giving her a name didn't make her any more human or sympathetic to her point of view. (10.01 "Flesh and Blood Part 3")

Daniel and Vala are reunited

Daniel managed to board the Ori warship via the ring transporter from the doomed Korolev, and he discovered that Vala was onboard the same ship. He hid in her quarters and awaited her return. They conspired to capture Adria, hoping to turn her from the Ori and use her as a "weapon" in the fight. Tomin overheard their plan and captured Daniel as he was standing guard at Adria's chamber door after Vala entered to meet with her daughter. Adria appeared as a twelve-year-old. As the two discussed Adria's plan to conquer and slaughter the Jaffa on Chulak, Tomin brought Daniel before her. Adria ordered him to kill Daniel, but Vala stepped in the way of the staff blast and fell injured. Adria and Tomin immediately went to Vala's side, and Adria began healing her. While Adria and Tomin were distracted, Daniel used the Ori warrior's energy weapon, similar to a zat, on them both. The Prior entered the room to protect Adria from Daniel's attempts to kill her. As he was about to use his orbed staff on both Daniel and Vala, the Odyssey beamed them out. Vala recuperated in the ship's infirmary as the reunited team discussed the war against the Ori. (10.01 "Flesh and Blood Part 3")

The team took Vala back to the SGC where Daniel requested that she stay. (10.02 "Morpheus")
