INT—DESTINY, RUSH'S QUARTERS

[Rush is asleep in bed, his eyes flickering. He is dreaming of his torture at the hands of the Lucian Alliance when he had switched bodies with Telford.]

FLASHBACK

INT—LUCIAN ALLIANCE TEL'TAK

[Rush is lying on the floor of the Lucian Alliance ship.]

RUSH/TELFORD
You're going to kill me.

END FLASHBACK

INT—DESTINY, RUSH'S QUARTERS

[Rush wakes suddenly and sits up, breathing heavily.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Park is working at a console when Rush enters.]

PARK
I thought you were going to get some sleep.

RUSH
Yeah, so did I.

[Rush goes to the nearest console and reads the data on the screen. He gives Park a sidelong glance.]

RUSH
What's going on here, then?

PARK
Some sort of crash. The interface is frozen.

[Rush takes his notebook from his pocket and begins to turn through the pages.]

RUSH
Yeah? Why didn't you call me?

[Rush begins pressing keys on the console with the aid of notes in his book.]

PARK
Well, I was going to try a restart first. That's fixed it in the past.

[The console beeps, and the data windows on the screen disappear. Rush closes his notebook.]

PARK
What did you just do?

RUSH
It seems I fixed the problem.

PARK
Yeah, I can see that. How?

[Rush begins to walk out of the control room.]

RUSH
Goodnight, Doctor Park. Glad to see you've everything well in hand.

PARK
Wuh… wait! Where are you going?

[Rush walks down the corridor away from the control room.]

RUSH
For a walk. You get into trouble, next time, call me.

[Park is left standing at the console looking frustrated.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Rush walks along the corridor. He comes to a door, looks around and opens it. It is an elevator. He keys in a destination and the door closes. He emerges in another part of the ship and walks to a large door unlike any other. He presses a sequence of small keys on the control panel and the door opens, sliding downwards to reveal a second, inner door. He presses the large door-opening button and the door slides open. He is hit by a gust of air.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush enters the bridge and surveys the room from the mezzanine. He goes down to the command chair in the center of the room and runs his hands over the consoles that surround it. He operates something on one of the panels, and the lights in the room come on one by one, revealing a number of control stations around the perimeter of the room. A mechanism is heard engaging; through the windows is seen what looks to be blast shields lowering.]

EXT—DESTINY IN FTL

[The pyramid-like structure on the top of the ship and one of the four square structures on the top of it rises out of the body of the pyramid. Rush is standing inside, looking out through the window.]

INT—BRIDGE

[Rush returns to the command chair and sits in it. He takes out his notebook and is looking from it to the console. He hears a voice.]

WOMAN'S VOICE
You're not going to tell anyone, are you?

[Rush looks around in surprise to see his dead wife sitting in one of the control station chairs.]

RUSH
Gloria.

GLORIA
Your program finally worked…

[Rush stares at her in disbelief.]

GLORIA
…unlocked the master code. You found the keys to controlling all of Destiny's systems, everything… And you're not going to tell anyone. Are you?

END TEASER

OPENING CREDITS

INT—WRAY'S QUARTERS

[Wray and Lucian Alliance member Ginn are sitting opposite each other talking. Greer is standing off to one side of the room, watching.]

GINN
Ancient legend said the address led to great understanding. It could make you as powerful as the Gods.

WRAY

(with a wry smile)

Which Gods?

GINN
Don't ask me. I assume it meant God-like power. Like the ascended Ancients. If you could control time and space—

WRAY
Wait. You think that Destiny is capable of that?

GINN
I don't know. That's what the legend said. You asked me why the Lucian Alliance wanted the ship so badly. Why are you here?

WRAY

(evasively)

I'm trying to understand your perspective.

GINN
You really want me to go over the last twelve or thirteen years? The how and the why of the Lucian Alliance?

[Wray shrugs and sits back.]

GINN
They're warlords. On my home planet, they would burn our farms so we had nothing to eat but the food they supplied. They told our teachers what to teach. Children were given weapons and trained to fight. Two years ago, I was taken by a gang at gunpoint and told if I didn't join the Alliance guard, my family was going be murdered.

WRAY
So, you're saying that you had no choice in any of this?

[Ginn looks upset. She pauses then attempts to change the subject.]

GINN
We're not getting enough food.

WRAY
None of us are. We haven't been able to replenish our supplies in some time.

GINN
You're saying we could all starve?

WRAY
Yes.

GINN
What are you going to do with us? You can't keep us locked in that hold forever.

WRAY
That hasn't been determined yet.

GINN
Colonel Young? He's going to make that decision?

[Wray and Greer exchange a look.]

WRAY
I will have a say.

GINN
Some of us have been cooperative.

WRAY
Yes, you have.

GINN

(pleading)

There's more we can do. There are those among us who are no danger to you. Please…give us a chance to prove it to you.

INT—PRISONER'S HOLD

[The Lucian Alliance members are milling around quietly. The door opens and a team of Marines brings Telford in. He is limping painfully. The Marines leave him there, closing the door behind them as Telford goes and sits next to Varro.]

VARRO
What are they going to do with us?

TELFORD
They didn't tell me anything. I'm a traitor.

VARRO
You know Young. What will he do?

TELFORD
I used to know him. Trust me, he's changed.

[Varro gets up and walks away angrily.]

INT—MESS

[Becker is serving spoonfuls of food. He shrugs at Volker after he serves him.]

VOLKER
You've got to be kidding me.

[Volker goes over to a table where Brody, Eli, Park and Riley are eating.]

VOLKER

(sitting)

It's hardly worth sitting down.

[Airman Dunning walks past behind Volker.]

DUNNING
Yeah, maybe we shouldn't be giving our rations to the enemy.

RILEY
They're human beings; they have rights. How we treat prisoners of war says everything about us as a moral and civil society.

[Brody chuckles.]

ELI

(mockingly)

Which pamphlet did you get that from?

RILEY
It's what I believe.

PARK
I don't care how secure they are. I can't sleep knowing there is a room full of people on this ship who would kill me first chance they got.

INT—YOUNG'S QUARTERS

[Young is sitting at the table as Wray stands opposite.]

WRAY
You know, H.R. was my job on Icarus.

YOUNG
And psych evals are TJ's responsibility.

WRAY
She's going to need some time. It's going to be hard enough for her to fulfill her duties as medic.

YOUNG

(irritated)

Great. Fine. Thanks.

[Young packs up the papers he was working on and picks them up along with a drink flask, then goes and sits on the sofa.]

WRAY
The I.O.A. reports our conflict with the Lucian Alliance in the Milky Way is escalating. Intel suggests they may be planning an attack on Earth.

YOUNG
Well, have you learned anything from the prisoners?

WRAY
Not yet. It would help if I could reassure them that we're not just going to pump them for information and then dump them on the next planet.

YOUNG

(derisively)

Really? Well, they dumped us on a planet to die. Is everyone on board willing to starve for them?

WRAY
We haven't come to that point yet.

[Young gets up and walks around to stand in front of her.]

YOUNG
How ugly are you willing to let this get, Camile? I'm just asking because I don't think this has anything to do with the proper treatment of P.O.W.s and you know it. They tried to kill us, and we do not have the capability to hold onto these prisoners over the long haul.

WRAY
They're not all dangerous. If you would just read my report—

YOUNG
"I was just following orders" is a claim that I've heard before. People will say anything to save themselves, Camile.

WRAY
So, we're just going to leave them on the next viable planet and then wash our hands of it?

[Young walks over to the door.]

YOUNG
Let's hope we find a viable planet.

[He opens the door and stands by it.]

INT—BRIDGE

[Rush is working a console while Gloria sits and watches him.]

GLORIA
You thought this was going to be easier, didn't you? You thought all you'd need to do was turn the key.

RUSH
This ship…it's systems were designed to be run by an entire crew.

GLORIA
Well, you have a crew.

RUSH
Yeah. A crew that knows what they're doing.

[Rush operates things at one control station and moves to the next.]

GLORIA
This is what you wanted.

RUSH
You know, the Ancients never intended Destiny to operate on its own.

[He turns to look at Gloria, but she has gone from the chair where was sitting before. He turns around looking for her and sees that she has moved to the command chair. She smiles at him.]

RUSH
They were supposed to come here, in person.

[He moves to the console where Gloria had been sitting earlier.]

RUSH
There was a point to this mission. There had to be.

GLORIA
And yet, the first thing you did was turn the auto-pilot system back on.

RUSH

(sighing)

Until I can be sure I know how to use each function. Wouldn't want to stop accidentally in range of another binary pulsar, would I?

GLORIA
Good plan.

RUSH
You see, right now, I'm trying to understand why Destiny stops at some planets and not others.

GLORIA
Maybe they're just rest stops, designed to let people get out, stretch their legs, smell the roses. But in the grand scheme of Destiny's greater mission? Not very important.

RUSH

Certainly, environments can change significantly through the years. Become dangerous, even. But that would mean Destiny's got some kind of real-time sub-space link to the 'gates. Now look, here. (points at console screen)

This planet we're approaching. Different classification entirely. Not merely locked out, but it seems to be non-functional.

GLORIA
So it seems.

RUSH

(sarcastically)

So very helpful.

GLORIA
Do you remember the long walks we used to take, in the gardens back home? Wherever we were, we'd always find a quiet place to call our own.

RUSH
That's it. We need food now; this planet we're approaching should be rich in plant life.

GLORIA
Big red X generally means "danger, don't go there", doesn't it?

[Rush turns around to face her.]

RUSH
Is this your only purpose? To question my actions.

GLORIA
So, what are you going to do?

RUSH
Oh, well I'll take that as a "yes" then.

[He turns back to the console and presses some buttons.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny drops out of FTL.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Brody, Riley and Eli are looking at a console, watched over by Young, as Rush enters.]

ELI
There has to be a reason that Destiny dropped out.

RUSH
There is.

YOUNG
Where have you been?

RUSH
Busy. We're in range of a planet that looks like it may have food and water.

YOUNG
Riley says there are no 'gates.

RUSH
Shuttle range.

[The console beeps.]

ELI
Wow! Look at that.

BRODY
Well, how does Destiny have data on a planet with no 'gate on it?

RUSH
Well, there is a 'gate on it. It appears to be non-functioning.

RILEY
So, Destiny just happened to drop out close enough for us to use the Shuttle? That's convenient.

RUSH
Well, it's not magic! As I've been doing all along, I've been telling Destiny any way I can how short of resources we are.

YOUNG
Well, we'll send a team.

RUSH
Okay. I suggest we land close to the 'gate, try and determine why it's not working, maybe even repair it.

ELI

Shuttle trip will take just under an hour. (looks at countdown clock)

Less than seven hours total. It's not much time.

YOUNG
However, if we can get the 'gate operational, we'll be able to transport a lot more food and water than in the Shuttle.

BRODY
Two gates cannot dial each other in this close a proximity.

RUSH
This planet may well be in range the next time we drop out of FTL. If we can get the 'gate active, we might be able to dial back down the line.

YOUNG
You want to go?

RUSH
No, no, I should stay here.

YOUNG
Well, what's more important right now?

RUSH

(testily)

Well, there's a number of systems that's been malfunctioning of late. I'm working on those, actually.

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ is packing her off-world kit when Young enters.]

TJ
Sir?

YOUNG
TJ.

TJ
I'm almost ready to go; just packing up my kit.

YOUNG
You um…are you sure?

TJ
Well, I'll admit I'm not one hundred percent, but we're low on medicinals, and I know we'll only be there a few hours, so I should at least take a look around. I'll take it easy.

YOUNG
Yeah. Yeah. I just, ah…you know, I wanted to make sure you're…you're okay.

[TJ nods at Young.]

YOUNG
Good luck down there.

TJ
Thanks.

[TJ picks up her bag and walks away. Young watches her leave.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Riley and Greer are seated on the left and right at the front of the Shuttle. Volker works at a console before going to join James, TJ, Eli, Park and Dunning in the rear compartment. Scott enters and takes his seat in the center front.]

RILEY
Doctor Rush has pinpointed the Stargate's position on the surface, and I've plotted a course.

SCOTT

(into comm)

Colonel Young, this is Scott. All systems are go. We are ready for take-off.

YOUNG

(over comm)

Go ahead, Lieutenant.

SCOTT

(into comm)

Roger that.

[Scott deactivates the comm.]

EXT—SHUTTLE

[The Shuttle lifts off from Destiny.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush is working. Gloria is standing to one side, watching him.]

GLORIA
I'm worried about you, Nicholas.

RUSH
Yeah, so am I. I've got work to do, and I can't seem to leave myself alone.

MALE VOICE
You're missing things.

[Rush looks up, confused. He turns to where Gloria had been standing, but Franklin is there in her place.]

RUSH
Doctor Franklin.

FRANKLIN
It's too much for one person. I don't care how smart you are.

[Rush watches as Franklin walks around the bridge.]

RUSH
Okay, so tell me. What am I missing?

FRANKLIN
Well, for one, the data on the planet.

RUSH
It's extensive. What about it?

FRANKLIN
You didn't notice the volcanic activity, the atmospheric super-rotation.

[Rush looks concerned.]

EXT—SHUTTLE IN SPACE

[The Shuttle is flying towards the planet.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
A few minutes away now.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush is doing calculations in his notepad while Franklin watches.]

RUSH
It'll be fine. They'll be fine.

FRANKLIN
You've based your calculation on optimal structural integrity.

RUSH
I based it on the specs in the database.

FRANKLIN
Which don't account for flaws that were developed over, I don't know, say a million plus years?

[Worried, Rush goes to the command chair and operates the console.]

RUSH

(into comm)

Lieutenant Scott, this is Doctor Rush. Do you read?

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comm)

Yeah, I hear you. Go ahead.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

RUSH

(into comm)

You're about to enter an area of atmospheric super-rotation.

INT—SHUTTLE

[Riley and Scott look at each other, confused.]

SCOTT

(into comm)

Okay. What does that mean?

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

RUSH

(into comm)

Well, I've done some calculations and you will experience some excessive turbulence, but…

INT—SHUTTLE

RUSH

(over comm)

…nothing the Shuttle wasn't built to handle.

SCOTT

(into comm)

Okay. Thanks for the heads-up.

[Scott deactivates the comm.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush turns around, and Gloria is standing where Franklin had been standing earlier. Rush remains in the command chair and looks worried.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
All right, you heard the man. Hang on. Could get a little bit bumpy.

EXT—SPACE ABOVE PLANET

[The Shuttle enters the atmosphere of the planet.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Everyone is getting bumped around.]

SCOTT

(to Riley)

Not so bad.

EXT—ATMOSPHERE ABOVE PLANET

[The Shuttle continues through the atmosphere of the planet.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[The turbulence is getting worse. People are getting thrown from their seats; a pipe bursts on the ceiling in the rear compartment, sending out a plume of smoke. Sparks are flying.]

SCOTT
Everybody hang on there. Hang on.

[Everybody is holding on tight. A high-pitched warning alarm sounds.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

RUSH

(into comm)

Lieutenant Scott, do you hear me?

[There is no response, and Rush looks concerned.]

RUSH

(into comm)

Lieutenant Scott, can you hear me?

[Pause.]

SCOTT

(over comm)

Yeah, loud and clear. We made it.

RUSH

(relieved, into comm)

Glad to hear it. Check back in once you've landed.

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT

(into comm)

Will do. Scott out.

[Scott deactivates the comm, and everybody relaxes.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Rush closes his eyes and breathes heavily, clearly relieved.]

EXT—ABOVE PLANET SURFACE, DAY

[The Shuttle flies through the air, then its engines wind down, and the rear burners extinguish. It drops sharply.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[A high-pitched warning alarm sounds.]

SCOTT

(yells)

Hang on!

TJ
What's going on?

[Scott taps at buttons on the control console.]

SCOTT
We've just lost power, half of the systems are down!

[Everybody looks panicked.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[The Shuttle is gliding on momentum, heading towards a mountain range.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
You've got to give me something. You've got to give me something. Come on, come on.

RILEY
Pull up!

SCOTT
I can't!

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[The Shuttle is gliding towards a mountain peak. As it passes, its right wing clips the rock face.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Everybody is thrown about by the impact, and sparks fly.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[The Shuttle glides down towards the forest, scraping the tops of the trees.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[People are grunting and groaning as they hold onto their seats.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[The Shuttle continues through the treetops, knocking branches off as it goes.]

INT—SHUTTLE

SCOTT
This is it!

[As everyone prepares for a crash landing, Scott holds onto the rails above his head, Dunning and Park hold hands and everyone else grips their seats.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[The Shuttle crashes into the dirt, landing on its undercarriage.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Everybody is thrown around by the impact.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[The Shuttle slides along the dirt floor of a wide canyon.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[James, Eli and TJ are gripped by fear.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[The Shuttle continues to slide out of control.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Park and Volker watch from the rear compartment through the front window.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[The Shuttle continues to slide towards a sheer cliff face rising out of the canyon floor.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Riley and Scott brace for impact. The Shuttle hits the cliff face, smashing the window in front of Riley and letting a cloud of dirt into the ship. People and gear are thrown around, and sparks fly. The chaos subsides to an eerie calm. Eli, Greer and James lie motionless.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[As the dust settles, the Shuttle is seen to be hard up against the cliff face.]

INT—CRASHED SHUTTLE

[A big spark brings Scott around with a start. There is coughing and groaning as people begin to sit up. Scott, his face bloody, looks around to see Riley lying unconscious on the floor. He goes to him and shines his flashlight around, seeing that there is a large pile of rock where the front left of the Shuttle used to be. Greer has come over to Riley, too.]

SCOTT
TJ!

[James is shining her flashlight around the rear compartment.]

TJ
Yeah! Is anyone hurt?

SCOTT
Over here.

[Scott leans down and places his fingers on Riley's neck. TJ goes through to the front compartment.]

SCOTT
You okay?

TJ
Yeah.

[TJ crouches down beside Riley.]

SCOTT
He's got a pulse.

[TJ checks Riley's neck for injury as sparks continue to burst from the controls. Scott goes towards the rear compartment, shining his flashlight around.]

SCOTT
Everyone else okay?

JAMES
Yep, yep.

SCOTT
Dunning, you all right?

[Dunning looks around into the light, bleeding from a head wound. He is unsteady on his feet, but he nods.]

DUNNING
Yeah.

[TJ is still checking Riley over, looking to where his lower body is trapped under the fallen console. He has regained consciousness and is groaning.]

TJ
Just relax. It's okay, just relax. Relax!

[Riley, groaning, tries to push himself free of the wreckage.]

RILEY
I can't move.

[Scott crouches down next to TJ.]

TJ
Okay, don't try. Now, just tell me where it hurts.

RILEY
It doesn't hurt. I…I can't feel my legs at all.

[TJ and Scott exchange a concerned look.]

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

[Brody is working at a console when Young enters.]

YOUNG
Where's Rush?

BRODY
No idea. I called him.

[Brody activates the comm.]

YOUNG

(into comm)

This is Young. Go ahead, Lieutenant.

SCOTT

(over comm)

I'm still not sure what happened, Sir.

INT—CRASHED SHUTTLE

[Scott is by the comm unit while TJ works on Riley with Park's help. Volker is at a console.]

SCOTT

(into comm)

Like Rush said, it was a pretty rough ride through the atmosphere.

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

YOUNG

(into comm)

Hold on, what do you mean, "Like Rush said"?

SCOTT

(over comm)

He called to warn us on the ship's comm…

INT—CRASHED SHUTTLE

SCOTT
…but it seemed like we made it through fine. Then shortly after, I lost flight control.

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

YOUNG
Injuries?

INT—CRASHED SHUTTLE

SCOTT
Riley's legs are pinned for now. TJ's working on him. Everyone else is fine. Right now we're trying to get the back door open.

[Dunning, Eli, Greer and James are working on opening the rear door.]

SCOTT
We took a lot of damage, Sir. One of the windows is gone.

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

[Rush enters.]

SCOTT

(over comm)

The bottom line, ah, I don't think we're going to be flying out of here.

BRODY
Destiny is going to jump in six hours.

YOUNG
And we can't stop it.

[Rush activates the comm on another console.]

RUSH

(into comm)

Lieutenant, this is Rush.

INT—CRASHED SHUTTLE

RUSH

(over comm)

You need to find the 'gate, get it operational. Hopefully the next time Destiny drops out…

[Eli and the others manage to pry the rear door partially open.]

INT—DESTINY CONTROL ROOM

RUSH

(into comm)

…we'll still be in range.

SCOTT

(over comm)

All right, copy that. I'll check back in thirty minutes.

[The comm deactivates, and Rush looks awkwardly at the others.]

INT—CRASHED SHUTTLE

[Eli opens the rear door a little more and squeezes through. Volker is coming towards the door with Scott.]

SCOTT
You have a decent idea which direction to go to find the 'gate?

VOLKER
Ah, we'll figure it out.

ELI
Hey, ah, how…how's Riley?

SCOTT

I don't know. (to James)

All right, L.T., you take Eli, Volker and Greer.

JAMES
Okay, let's go.

[The four of them move out. Scott returns to the front compartment to speak to TJ.]

TJ

(quietly)

He's wedged in there pretty good. I'm not sure we should be trying to move him anyway.

SCOTT

(quietly)

Well, we're going to have to eventually.

EXT—DESTINY MOTIONLESS IN SPACE

INT—CORRIDOR

[Wray and Young are walking along the corridor.]

WRAY
I'm sure you're thinking this probably wouldn't have happened had we not been so desperate for food and water.

YOUNG
That doesn't matter now.

WRAY
I reported to the I.O.A.

YOUNG
I don't care.

WRAY
They insist that you keep the…

YOUNG
Camile, I don't care.

WRAY
…prisoners on board. Colonel.

FEMALE SOLDIER

(over radio)

We need backup in the prisoners hold, immediately.

[Wray and Young break into a run.]

INT—PRISONER'S HOLD

[There is a brawl going on between the prisoners and the military.]

FEMALE SOLDIER
Stand down! Back up against the wall! Now!

MALE SOLDIER #1
Hold it right there!

[Simeon and another prisoner are punching a soldier.]

MALE SOLDIER #2
Back up!

MALE SOLDIER #3
Grab his arm!

[Varro grabs Simeon and pulls him off the soldier.]

EXT—CORRIDOR

[Young opens the door to the hold and enters.]

FEMALE SOLDIER
Back up, now!

[Wile the fight continues, Young tries to pull a prisoner off a soldier and gets elbowed in the face. He is thrown back briefly, but regains himself and grabs the man, then throws him on the floor on his back. Young leans over the man, takes him by the hair and bangs his head repeatedly into the floor. Wray watches in horror from the doorway as Young takes the man by the throat and begins to choke him. Young's face shows rage while the man struggles with him, but as he chokes and his struggling abates, the look on Young's face changes to horror. Young lets go, with the man gasping for air.]

TELFORD
Everett! Leave it.

[Telford pulls Young from the man on the floor. Wray watches in horror as Young raises his hands in submission. The fight has ended, and the military have their weapons trained on the prisoners. Young surveys the scene, Wray still standing at the door looking shocked.]

EXT—CRATER ON PLANET, DAY

[The team in search of the Stargate is looking around a rocky crater. Greer stands on the top edge while the others look around below.]

GREER
I don't see anything.

ELI

(looking at a kino remote)

I've got no addresses coming up.

VOLKER
Well, this is where it should be.

JAMES
You sure?

VOLKER

(testily)

No. If I were sure, there'd be a 'gate here.

INT—CRASHED SHUTTLE

[Riley is yelling in pain as Dunning and Scott try to lift the wreckage from his legs.]

TJ
Okay, stop! Stop! Stop!

[Scott and Dunning lower the wreckage back down and Riley's yells subside.]

TJ
Okay, I'm going to try and reach in there and see if I can feel anything. Okay?

[TJ nods to Scott and Dunning, who prepare to lift the wreckage again.]

TJ
Lift it up.

[They lift it a little and Riley cries out in pain.]

SCOTT
TJ, we can't hold it.

TJ
Okay!

[TJ takes her hand out from under the wreckage as they lower it back down. Her glove is covered in blood. She and Park exchange a horrified look.]

TJ
His leg's stuck pretty good. I think the pressure's actually helping cut off circulation to a wound.

EXT—CRATER ON PLANET, DAY

[Eli is checking the remote.]

ELI
Okay. Destiny just jumped. This is not good.

JAMES
Oh, try not to panic.

ELI
Experience tells me that this a very good time to panic!

JAMES
What are odds it'll still be in range next time it drops out?

VOLKER
That is impossible to know.

GREER

(yelling from higher up the crater)

Hey! I found it.

ELI
The 'gate? You can see it from there?

[Eli, James and Volker head to Greer's position and look around.]

VOLKER
Where?

ELI
I don't see it.

GREER
Look down.

[Greer is standing on top of the Stargate, which is almost completely buried. The others look at it in dismay.]

EXT—DESTINY IN FTL

INT—BRIDGE

[Rush is working at a console. Gloria is sitting in a chair beside him.]

GLORIA
You need to sleep, or you're just going to make more mistakes.

RUSH
You know, it would be easier if you would actually help.

GLORIA
What makes you think I can?

RUSH
Can I speak to Franklin?

GLORIA
Who?

RUSH
One of two things is happening here. Either, um, I'm losing my mind, or you and Doctor Franklin have somehow been manifested by the ship in order to communicate with me. Now, he tends to be a little bit more helpful when it comes to technical matters.

GLORIA
Let's see. What are you trying to do?

RUSH
Figure out how to control how long Destiny stops when it drops out of FTL.

GLORIA
Okay. Can't help you with that, sorry.

RUSH
Right. I am losing my mind.

[Rush gets up and moves to a console at the command chair.]

RUSH
There don't seem to be any Stargates coming up in Destiny's immediate path. Now, I have to stop this ship soon, or we're going to be out of range of the planet the team's stranded on.

GLORIA
And with no other 'gates in range, you don't know how to explain to everyone else why the ship has stopped.

RUSH
Exactly. We can't just keep dropping in and out of FTL. I'm going to damage the drives, permanently. They have to run for a minimum of four hours each time they're activated, which means next time I drop out, I've got one last shot at this.

GLORIA
Why don't you just tell the truth? Ask for help.

RUSH
No, no. No, I can't.

GLORIA
Because Colonel Young can't be trusted?

RUSH
Now he…he let the Lucian Alliance take over this ship. The man is mentally unstable. He's getting worse all the time. He nearly just killed a man.

GLORIA
Your negligence caused the Shuttle to crash.

RUSH
The situation is desperate because of him. He's not fit to lead this mission.

EXT—CRATER ON PLANET, DAY

[The team is digging away at the rocks burying the Stargate with small shovels and bare hands. Scott arrives to assist.]

SCOTT
Hey.

ELI
How's Riley?

SCOTT
He's stuck pretty good. He's losing a lot of blood.

ELI
There's no way to get him free?

SCOTT
TJ thinks the pressure from the wreckage is what's keeping him from bleeding out.

[Everybody looks at Scott with concern.]

ELI
There's got to be something we can do.

SCOTT
Let's get this 'gate uncovered.

[They all go back to work.]

EXT—CRASHED SHUTTLE ON PLANET, DAY

TJ

(voice)

Are you in any pain?

RILEY

(voice)

I'm okay.

INT—CRASHED SHUTTLE

[TJ is sitting by Riley.]

RILEY
Have you ever been in this situation before?

TJ
Stuck on an alien planet after a Shuttle crash? No. This one's a first for me.

RILEY
I meant having to tend to someone that you knew was going to die.

TJ

(gently)

Yeah, I have.

RILEY

Sounds crazy, but I came so close lately, with the explosion and, you know, getting shot. I kind of figured that maybe it just wasn't my time. (laughs weakly)

I'm not all that spiritual, but my mother's pretty religious. Anglican. She'd be praying for me right now if she knew. My dad, he always said it was stupid, but he always went to church with her.

TJ
I won't leave you if it…if it comes to it.

RILEY
Do you believe in anything? God? The afterlife?

TJ

I don't know. Since we've been here, we've seen some incredible things. We know that there's so much we don't understand. Beings more powerful than us. (pauses)

Can I, uh, tell you something that I haven't told anyone?

RILEY

(smiling)

Sure. Who am I going to tell, right?

TJ
Remember that planet that we stopped at, that we thought was created by aliens?

RILEY
Yeah.

TJ

(starting to cry)

I know this sounds crazy, but I went back there. I don't know if it was a dream, a vision, maybe. They said that they came and got me. They have my baby, and she's safe there.

RILEY
Do you believe that?

TJ
It felt real. And I don't know how to explain it. I want it to be possible, it's just that little…little bit of hope. It makes things bearable, so…so I let it live.

[Park has been lying in the rear of Shuttle under a blanket, listening. She is upset.]

INT—DESTINY, YOUNG'S QUARTERS

[Wray and Young are in his quarters. Varro is brought in by two guards.]

VARRO
I want to apologize for my people's behavior.

YOUNG
The next viable planet we stop at, you're all going to be left there. I expect cooperation until such time, or appropriate force will be used to maintain order.

[Varro turns and leaves, and Wray looks at Young angrily.]

EXT—CRATER ON PLANET, NIGHT

[Scott comes over from where the Stargate is buried, to where the Eli, Volker, Greer and James are crouched down behind some large rocks.]

ELI
You know, I think I, I remember reading somewhere that a big enough explosion close enough to a Stargate can…can detonate the superconductive material that it's made of. The resulting explosion can take a chunk out of a planet.

VOLKER
Well, it's not going to…it's not going to be that-that big.

ELI

(to Scott)

You sure?

SCOTT
I— We don't-we don't have much of a choice, do we? It could take weeks to dig this thing out.

ELI
Hopefully the blast won't damage the 'gate.

SCOTT
Do you want me to flip the switch, or not?

ELI
Yeah, yeah, oh yeah. Sure. Flip the switch.

SCOTT
I'm flipping the switch.

ELI
No, flip. Flip it already.

[Everyone ducks for cover.]

SCOTT
Fire in the hole!

[He flips the switch, and there is an explosion where the Stargate is buried.]

ELI
That was pretty big!

INT—DESTINY, YOUNG'S QUARTERS

[Young opens the door to find Telford standing outside. He and Telford look at each other for a moment before speaking.]

TELFORD
I used the communication stones.

Young

Okay. Let's skip over the fact that I didn't authorize that.

TELFORD
I have a short list.

[Telford takes a piece of paper from his pocket and hands it to Young, who glances at it and hands it back as they speak.]

TELFORD
Based on intel provided by both myself and Camile Wray, you're being ordered to keep a select number of Lucian Alliance on board who may prove valuable.

YOUNG
And if I don't, I assume you're going to tell me that you've been ordered to relieve me of my command. You think you've earned the trust of the men and women on this ship enough for them to follow you?

[Telford puts the paper back in his pocket.]

TELFORD
Military personnel are still in the service of Stargate Command and expected to follow orders.

[They look at each other a moment but are interrupted by the ship dropping out of FTL. Young goes to the table and picks up his radio.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Rush, this is Young. Where are you?

[Young walks away, and Telford follows.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Brody is at his console when Young and Telford enter.]

BRODY
There's less than three hours. The address of the planet came up, but it's still locked out. The strange this is that there are no other planets in range. Nothing.

TELFORD
Why did we drop out?

BRODY
Exactly. It doesn't make sense.

YOUNG
Suggestions?

BRODY
Try to bypass the lockout? Dial anyway? It's a long shot.

YOUNG

It's all we've got. (into radio)

Rush, we're headed to the gateroom.

INT—GATEROOM

[The Stargate is turning, attempting to connect. Young and Telford are watching when Rush enters,]

YOUNG
Where have you been?

RUSH
Engine control room.

YOUNG
Doing what?

RUSH
Well, the FTL drive is still suffering some effects from the pulsar radiation. It's stopping at shorter intervals now, but regardless of whether we're in range of a planet or not.

[They exchange a look, then Rush walks towards the Stargate.]

EXT—CRATER ON PLANET, DAY

[Scott, Greer and James are removing rocks from the Stargate area. Volker and Eli are sitting nearby. The ground starts shaking.]

SCOTT
Can you feel that?

[The Stargate is exposed now. Greer backs off and points towards it.]

GREER
Hey, science guys. This thing is shaking.

ELI
Someone's trying to dial in.

VOLKER
Oh, clear the event horizon.

[They quickly remove the last few rocks from the area in front of the Stargate. Eli checks the remote.]

ELI
The address is here! We've got Destiny!

GREER
Ah, shaking's stopped.

ELI
Everyone back away. I'm going to try to dial them.

[Eli operates the remote, and the Stargate begins to dial.]

ELI

(laughing)

Ha, a-ha, it's working. It's working!

INT—DESTINY GATEROOM

[The Stargate opens.]

SCOTT

(over radio)

Destiny, this is Scott. Permission to come aboard?

YOUNG

(into radio)

Permission granted.

[Scott, Eli and James come through the Stargate.]

YOUNG
Glad to see you guys are okay. Where are the others?

SCOTT
Riley's not going to make it, Sir.

[Young is clearly upset by the news.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[Scott and Young are walking towards the Shuttle, where they are met by Greer.]

GREER
Sir.

[Scott and Greer stay outside the crashed Shuttle while Young enters.]

INT—CRASHED SHUTTLE

[TJ and Park are sitting beside Riley. Young enters, and TJ approaches him in the rear compartment.]

TJ
Sir, I'm not just going to let him die alone.

YOUNG
Can you give me a minute?

TJ
Yeah.

YOUNG
Thanks.

[TJ signals to Park to go with her, and the two women leave. Young goes and sits beside Riley.]

RILEY
Sorry, Sir.

YOUNG
You are a fine soldier, a good man. None of this is your fault. You know that.

RILEY
Don't stay on my account. Just make them leave. I don't want anyone to risk being stuck here.

[They look at each other for a moment.]

RILEY
I'm not going to be around that much longer.

YOUNG
What-what can I tell your family?

RILEY
Nothing really seems like enough.

[They smile weakly at each other.]

INT—DESTINY, PRISONER'S HOLD

[The prisoners are standing around when the door opens and Telford and Wray enter, flanked by a number of armed soldiers. Varro comes over to meet them. Telford takes the paper containing the list of names from his pocket and hands it to him. Varro looks at it for a moment, then at Telford then Wray.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[Greer, TJ, Scott and Park are waiting outside the crashed Shuttle.]

SCOTT
How long do you think he'll last?

TJ
I don't know.

INT—CRASHED SHUTTLE

RILEY
How much time until Destiny jumps?

YOUNG
Oh, we're—we're good. We're fine. I don't want you to worry. We're okay.

RILEY
I'd ask for your gun, but I don't want them to blame you.

[Young gives him a wry laugh.]

RILEY
Sir. Please. I'm in pain.

[Young nods.]

YOUNG
I'll get TJ.

[Young starts to get up and leave.]

RILEY
No. No!

[Young stops and turns back towards Riley, who has tears in his eyes.]

RILEY
Please.

[They regard each other for a moment, then Riley painfully puts his hands behind his back underneath him. Young crouches down beside him. They both let out a long breath. Young gives Riley a reassuring smile. Riley nods at Young, then Young places his hands firmly over Riley's nose and mouth. As he suffocates him, Young holds his own breath, an anguished look on his face. After a few moments and a quiet struggle, the life has drained from Riley's face, and Young can't hold his breath any longer. He releases his grip, gasping for air, then strokes Riley's head and closes the dead man's eyes. He waits for a moment.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[Young exits the crashed Shuttle and walks over to where Greer, TJ, Scott and Park are waiting.]

YOUNG
He's gone.

[They all look at each other sadly, while TJ goes back into the Shuttle.]

INT—DESTINY GATEROOM

[The Stargate is active, and a number of Lucian Alliance members are walking through it off the ship.]

INT—PRISONERS HOLD

[Ginn, Koz, Varro, Simeon and five other Lucian Alliance members are in the hold.]

RILEY

(voice)

You know, you'd figure being stranded on this ship in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of strangers would be the problem, but…

INT—STILL ROOM

[Greer, Brody, Volker, Park, James and a number of others are gathered around a table. Greer raises his cup in a toast and everyone else joins him.]

RILEY

(voice)

…that-that isn't it, exactly.

GREER
To Riley.

RILEY

(voice)

It's not so much being out here, as it is not being there…

INT—SCOTT'S QUARTERS

[Scott and Chloe are sitting on the bed. Scott is crying while Chloe comforts him.]

RILEY

(voice)

…for the birthdays, the weddings, the funerals…

INT—KINO ROOM

[Eli is watching Riley's kino video message on the console.]

RILEY

(on console)

Simple things like just taking your nephew to school on his first day, or even taking the dog for a walk. You know, just not…not being there.

INT—TJ'S QUARTERS

[TJ is sitting on the bed, staring sadly.]

INT—YOUNG'S QUARTERS

[Young is drinking, tears running down his face.]

INT—BRIDGE

[Rush turns to face Gloria, who is sitting in the command chair.]

RUSH
There was nothing that could be done for Riley. Stalling Destiny any longer wouldn't have helped him.

GLORIA
I know.

RUSH
Well, you think I don't know? All of this is my fault. I was trying to save lives. All of our lives, not just my own. This database just confirms what I knew all along. This ship was named Destiny for a reason.

[Rush and Gloria look at each other for a moment, then Rush closes his eyes. When he opens them again, Gloria is gone. He takes a seat at a control chair, operates some buttons on the console, then sits back and closes his eyes. The console starts beeping, and he looks at it.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny drops out of FTL.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Brody and Volker are at their consoles.]

BRODY
Well, it must be like Rush said. Another short jump because of the radiation effect.

[Volker's console starts beeping.]

VOLKER
Something just came up on sensors.

RUSH

(over radio)

This is Rush. Meet me in the observation deck.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Young is walking along the corridor and meets Eli.]

ELI
I heard the radio chatter.

INT—OBSERVATION DECK

[Young and Eli walk in and join Rush, Volker and Brody, who are looking out the windows.]

YOUNG
What's going on?

VOLKER
There's an object out there. It's just coming into range.

YOUNG
Well, what is it?

VOLKER
We're not sure, but we're about to find out.

RUSH
We're headed straight for it.

EXT—DESTINY IN SPACE

[The ship goes slowly forward.]

FADE OUT
