EXT—DESTINY IN SUB-LIGHT FLIGHT

BRODY

(voice)

How can you just forgive him?

INT—BRIDGE

[Brody, Park, Volker and Young are on the bridge.]

YOUNG
Well, who said I did?

VOLKER
He's done nothing but lie to us.

YOUNG
I don't believe he intended for Riley to die.

PARK
Yeah, but he was responsible.

YOUNG
And he's going to have to live with that. I'm not saying he was right.

BRODY
What are you saying?

YOUNG
That I'm trying to understand why he did what he did.

[Rush and Eli enter the bridge.]

RUSH
Something wrong?

YOUNG
On the contrary. So far, it seems like everything you've said is true.

VOLKER
About the Ancients finding evidence of a signal once being broadcast across the universe.

[Brody activates his console to reveal an audiovisual representation of the signal.]

BRODY
It is amazing. A distinct structure in the background radiation.

YOUNG
It sounds like static to me.

ELI
You were expecting "Stairway to Heaven"?

VOLKER
This is huge.

BRODY
Well, it suggests more than a random order to the universe.

VOLKER

Possibly constructed by intelligent life, or…
(to Rush)

Assuming you had no luck deciphering any of it.

RUSH

(surprised)

Is this the reason you brought me up here?

ELI

(smiling)

Well, you have planted false information in the database before.

[Rush doesn't respond.]

ELI
I'm just saying.

YOUNG
Actually, I'm consulting. Part of a new spirit of cooperation. As you may have noticed, we dropped ourselves out of FTL. There are three planets in range.

RUSH
Conditions?

VOLKER
One's a wasteland, but two show promise.

RUSH
Okay, let me have a look.

[Rush starts to walk towards the console.]

YOUNG
No, no. You, uh, go on. You go get some rest.

RUSH
No, no, I'm fine. I'm okay.

YOUNG
No, seriously. I will tell you when there is something worth writing home about. Sorry to have bothered you. Go ahead.

RUSH
Okay. Thanks.

[Rush turns and starts to leave the bridge, but Eli attempts to stop him.]

ELI
Hey! Listen—

RUSH
Don't worry, Eli. Nothing's going to happen. Nothing's going to happen.

[Rush leaves.]

VOLKER
We can start gathering some kino data.

YOUNG
Why don't you go to the gate room and I'll, uh, put together some teams.

VOLKER
Yeah.

[Volker and Park leave. Eli comes over to Young, who looks blankly at him as he speaks.]

ELI
You don't have any idea how much longer Homeworld Command is going to want to talk to Ginn, do you? I mean, it just seems like they've been questioning her for—for… I'm going to go to work.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Rush is walking along the corridor and arrives at Ginn's quarters. He knocks.]

RUSH
Mandy?

[After receiving no response, he knocks again.]

RUSH
Mandy, it's Nick.

[Again, there is no response. After a moment's hesitation, he opens the door.]

INT—GINN'S QUARTERS

[Ginn is lying lifeless on the floor, her eyes open. Rush stares for a moment then approaches her slowly and gently feels her face, perhaps looking for warmth. He pulls his hand away, stunned. He grabs a radio from the bench at the foot of the bed.]

RUSH

(into radio)

This is Rush. I need help. Ginn's quarters. Now!

[He drops the radio and stares sadly at Ginn's body.]

END TEASER

OPENING CREDIT

INT—STONE LAB

[James runs into the stone lab, takes a stone from the case and puts it on the light box.]

INT—GINN'S QUARTERS

[Rush is looking on as TJ gently closes Ginn's eyes. Eli arrives with Young.]

TJ
Eli…

SCOTT

(over radio)

Colonel, this is Scott. All Lucian Alliance members are accounted for and locked down except Simeon. Michaels was assigned to him, and he is not responding on radio.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Simeon is making his way through the ship. He uses a handgun to shoot out a power conduit and as sparks fly, the corridor goes dark.]

INT—GINN'S QUARTERS

[The room goes dark.]

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE ARMORY

[Airman Henderson is shot through the chest. As Dunning turns to see where the shot came from, he too is shot. Simeon walks past them and opens the door to the armory.]

INT—GINN'S QUARTERS

[Eli sits down on the bed, shocked. TJ turns to Rush.]

TJ
We don't know for sure. It's never been confirmed that that's what happens.

[Meanwhile, Young is speaking on his radio.]

YOUNG
All civilians are to immediately report to quarters until further notice. Teams of two, room by room. I want him found.

INT—ARMORY

[Simeon removes his jacket and discards it then proceeds to load equipment including water bottles and a radio into a bag. He puts on a flak vest, and his eye is caught by several cases. He opens them to find Lucian Alliance explosive devices inside. He takes several of them, then begins to arm himself.]

YOUNG

(over radio)

Airman Dunning, come in. This is Young. Please respond.

[Dunning is lying motionless in the corridor just outside the door.]

JAMES

(over radio)

Sir.

INT—STONE LAB

JAMES

(into radio)

This is James.

INT—GINN'S QUARTERS

JAMES

(over radio)

Amanda Perry is dead.

[TJ turns to Rush, who walks out of the room.]

YOUNG
Rush. Hey! Rush.

[Rush leaves.]

JAMES

(over radio)

Sir, there's more.

INT—STONE LAB

JAMES

(into radio)

Ginn told Homeworld Command some things you'll want to hear.

[She leaves the stone lab.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Rush is walking along the corridor; he yells in fury and punches the wall.]

INT—GINN'S QUARTERS

[Eli seems distant as he goes towards Young.]

ELI
Colonel? Give me a gun?

YOUNG
Wait here.

[Young gives TJ a look; she nods and Young leaves. Eli sighs in exasperation.]

INT—GATEROOM

[Volker and Park are at the control console. They hear the sound of a gas grenade followed by gunfire. Through the open doorway, Park sees Simeon emerge from the smoke. He points his handgun at her. She raises her hands and backs away as he enters the gateroom.]

VOLKER
Whoa!

SIMEON
Close and lock the doors.

[Simeon steps around behind Park and puts his arm around her neck, then points the gun at Volker.]

SIMEON
Now!

INT—GATEROOM CORRIDOR

[An airman is lying on the floor, wounded in the left arm. Rush arrives and checks his neck for a pulse. He takes his radio and handgun.]

INT—GATEROOM

[The doors begin to close around the room.]

INT—GATEROOM CORRIDOR

[Rush looks through the smoke into the gateroom, where he sees Simeon holding Park. The door closes just as he gets to it, but he cannot re-open it.]

INT—GATEROOM

[Simeon is still holding Park and pointing his weapon at Volker.]

SIMEON
Dial.

[Volker does as he is told.]

INT—GATEROOM CORRIDOR

RUSH

(into radio)

Two men are down. He's locked himself in the gateroom with at least one hostage.

INT—GATEROOM

[The Stargate dials.]

VOLKER
Nobody's getting in here. Just please let her go.

[Simeon releases his grip and backs away a few steps. He points the gun at Park's head.]

SIMEON
Don't move.

[He beckons to Volker.]

SIMEON
Come on. Come here.

[As Volker approaches, Simeon takes the bag from his shoulder and sets in on the floor, never taking his eyes off Volker.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer is crouching on the floor over a dead Airman.]

GREER

(into radio)

Colonel, this is Greer. I found Michaels. He's dead, Sir.

INT—ANOTHER CORRIDOR

[Young is leading a team along the corridor, checking rooms.]

INT—GATEROOM

[Simeon is standing guard as Volker binds Park's hands with a cable tie.]

VOLKER
Look, take me instead.

PARK
No!

SIMEON
Shut up! Both of you!

[The Stargate activates. Simeon points his gun at Park.]

SIMEON
Move.

[Volker is upset and helpless as Simeon and Park go towards the Stargate.]

INT—GATEROOM CORRIDOR

RUSH

(over radio)

Mister Brody, I need the…

INT—BRIDGE

[Brody is at a console.]

RUSH

(over radio)

…door open now!

BRODY

(into radio)

I'm working on it.

[Brody presses buttons on the console.]

INT—GATEROOM CORRIDOR

[Rush waits.]

INT—GATEROOM

[Volker is staring at the Stargate. The door opens, and Rush enters.]

RUSH
Where'd he go?

VOLKER
He went through.

[Rush goes to the console, picks up a kino remote and runs towards the still-active Stargate.]

VOLKER
Wait. Wait!

[Rush disappears through the event horizon.]

INT—GATEROOM CORRIDOR

[A team of Marines, led by Scott, find the two dead soldiers. They move towards the gateroom.]

INT—GATEROOM

[Scott and his team enter just as the Stargate deactivates.]

SCOTT
Where is he?

VOLKER
He took Park. Rush went through after him.

SCOTT
Redial.

[Volker goes to the console to redial.]

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

[Rush is standing in front of the Stargate, which sits in the middle of a desolate wasteland. There is nothing but sand and rock for as far as the eye can see. Park is sitting on the ground in front of the Stargate's platform, her hands and feet bound.]

PARK
There's something on my back.

[Rush surveys the area.]

PARK
He put something on my back.

[Rush goes to her and sees a disk-shaped explosive device stuck to Park's sweater in the center of her back. He sighs.]

INT—DESTINY INFIRMARY

[TJ is bringing an injured soldier into the infirmary. Her hands hold his wound as he is wheeled along on a gurney. With the aid of two other marines, she prepares to treat his injuries. There are other medics treating patients, and Barnes is working on another patient nearby. There is a great deal of commotion in the room as everybody works.]

TJ
Let's move! He's bleeding badly. I need help here! Get him on the table. Bag him.

BARNES
I've got a chest wound over here.

TJ
Is the airway clear?

BARNES
Yes.

TJ
Use the plastic to apply pressure. You want to avoid air in the wound.

BARNES
He's bleeding pretty bad.

TJ
I can't get away.

BARNES
He's stopped breathing.

[TJ looks at Barnes, her expression helpless.]

TJ

Do what you can.
(to the Marine assisting her, resignedly)

Hand me the tube.

INT—GATEROOM

[The Stargate is spinning. Young and several teams of soldiers enter the gateroom where Scott and his team are standing by. Greer is also there.]

YOUNG
Talk to me.

SCOTT
Simeon went through with Park hostage. Rush went after them.

YOUNG
Well, we need Simeon alive.

GREER
Sir?

YOUNG
Ginn told Homeworld Command that he knows the details of the Alliance attack being planned against Earth. Location of the base, who's involved. He may be the only way to stop them.

SCOTT
Assuming he'll tell us.

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

[Rush is working on the explosive device that is attached to Park's back. The Stargate begins to activate.]

PARK

(her voice shaking)

It's a bomb, isn't it? One of theirs.

RUSH
Yes.

PARK
We studied them, didn't we? Ginn. She told us how they work.

[The view of the scene switches and we now see it through the sight on a rifle. We then see that Simeon is watching Rush and Park through the sight from a rocky outcrop a short distance away. The Stargate activates and Simeon looks angry.]

RUSH

(into radio)

This is Rush. Do not come through. Repeat, do not come through.

INT—DESTINY GATEROOM

[Young, Scott and teams of soldiers are standing in front of the Stargate.]

RUSH

(over radio)

I'm attempting to disarm an explosive at the base of the 'gate.

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

RUSH

(into radio)

Do you copy?

YOUNG

(over radio)

This is Young. Copy that.

INT—DESTINY GATEROOM

YOUNG

(to Volker at the console)

Keep the 'gate open.

RUSH

(over radio)

I'll let you know when it's clear.

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

[Rush continues to work on the explosive device. Simeon moves from his position. A kino comes through the Stargate.]

INT—DESTINY GATEROOM

[Young and Scott go to the console where Volker has the video feed from the kino on the screen. It shows Rush working on the device on Park's back.]

RUSH

(on screen)

I'm going to try and remove the cover.

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

[Rush removes the cover from the device, and it starts beeping. There are small yellow crystals inside.]

INT—DESTINY GATEROOM

VOLKER
Rush, this is Volker. Can you hear me? You can't…

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

[Rush is putting on his glasses.]

VOLKER

(over radio)

…disarm it, but you can remove the proximity sensor.

RUSH
Yeah. Please shut up.

INT—DESTINY GATEROOM

[Volker watches the screen.]

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

[The explosive device is beeping.]

INT—DESTINY GATEROOM

VOLKER
There's a fuse.

RUSH

(on video screen)

I know. I just…

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

RUSH
These pinholes are too small. I just…I don't have anything that's going to do this.

[Rush drops his hands in despair.]

RUSH
I'm sorry, I…I can't.

INT—DESTINY GATEROOM

[Young watches the screen.]

PARK

(on video screen, panting for breath)

Oh, God!

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

PARK

(crying)

Okay. It's okay. It's okay. Get out of here. It's okay.

INT—DESTINY GATEROOM

[Volker watches the screen helplessly. James is clearly upset.]

PARK

(on screen)

It's okay.

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

[Rush has a sudden realization and removes his glasses.]

RUSH
Wuh…wait, wait, wait, wait.

[He removes the wire that he had previously used to replace one of the arms of the glasses frame. The beeping is getting faster now. He takes the wire and inserts it into the device.]

INT—DESTINY GATEROOM

[Young and Volker watch the screen.]

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

[Rush inserts the wire into the pinhole above one of the tubes and uses the other arm of his glasses frame to flick one crystal from its place. The beeping becomes rapid as Rush removes the device from Park's back and throws it away. He grabs her and throws her to the ground, shielding her with his body as the device explodes a short distance away.]

RUSH
Are you okay?

PARK
Yeah.

RUSH
Are you all right?

PARK

(crying)

Yeah.

INT—DESTINY GATEROOM

YOUNG

(to Scott)

Go.

[Scott and James move out.]

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

[Rush is heading off towards the rocky outcrop near the Stargate area. The kino follows him as Park watches the Stargate. Scott and Greer come through.]

SCOTT

(calling out)

Rush!

[Rush keeps walking.]

SCOTT
Got him.

[Scott goes after Rush. Greer goes to Park and puts a protective arm around her shoulders while he scans the area.]

SCOTT

(calling out)

Rush!

[A number of soldiers come though the Stargate, led by James. The Stargate deactivates.]

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

[Rush is moving through a ravine, holding a sidearm in one hand and studying the kino remote. The kino flies overhead. Nearby, Scott is searching for Rush, weapon at the ready. Suddenly, a shot is fired and hits the rocks near Scott. He ducks for cover. From his position, Rush hears the shot and checks the kino remote. The kino, hovering just above him, is hit by gunfire, and as he drops himself to the ground, the kino falls at his feet.]

INT—DESTINY, VARRO'S QUARTERS

[Young opens the door to Varro's quarters. Varro stands as Young enters.]

VARRO
What happened?

YOUNG
Simeon killed the man guarding him, and then he killed Ginn.

VARRO
Where is he?

YOUNG
He took a hostage through the 'gate.

VARRO
Colonel, I swear I had no idea—

YOUNG
Before he got to her, Ginn told Homeworld Command that Simeon had intelligence about an attack that was being planned against Earth.

[Varro turns away.]

YOUNG
Are you kidding me?

VARRO
Ginn and Simeon were from the same clan.

YOUNG
Are you saying you know nothing about this?

VARRO

(turning to face Young)

You know the Lucian Alliance are made up of different factions. There are many secrets between them. If I did know, I would have told you before now.

YOUNG
Is there anyone else on board from that clan?

VARRO
No. Look, Colonel, about Simeon.

[Young turns to leave the room.]

VARRO
Don't underestimate him. If I'm guilty of anything, it's not warning you about him sooner.

[Young stops at the door and turns back to face Varro.]

YOUNG
He's not going to get away.

VARRO
Let me help.

YOUNG
I think you've done enough.

VARRO
Yeah, I think it might be better if you just let him go.

YOUNG
He killed three people, injured four more.

VARRO
You'll lose more people trying to bring him in alive.

[Young turns and walks out, closing the door behind him.]

VARRO

(calling after Young)

He's dangerous! Trust me!

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

[Rush is walking along the base of the ravine until he sees another explosive device like the one that Park had on her back. This one is wedged between some rocks a few feet away from him. It begins beeping rapidly. Rush runs away from it.]

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

[Standing guard near the Stargate, Greer and James hear the explosion and see the resulting dust rising. Greer takes of at a run towards the ravine, signaling to the other soldiers as he goes.]

GREER
Stay, stay, stay, stay!

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

[Scott is running now.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

This is Scott. I'm okay. Hold your positions.

[Elsewhere in the ravine. Rush is picking himself up from the ground. Scott arrives at his position.]

SCOTT
Are you hurt?

RUSH
No. No, no, I'm fine, I'm fine.

[Rush attempts to continue walking but Scott grabs him by the arm. Rush struggles to free himself.]

SCOTT
Nah, wait. Wait, wait! Stop!

[Rush stops and turns to face Scott.]

SCOTT
What the hell? Rush, we need Simeon alive! He may have intel on a Lucian Alliance attack on Earth.

RUSH
And you think he's going to tell you?

[Rush turns and begins to walk away but Scott grabs him again.]

SCOTT
That is not my problem right now. I got orders.

RUSH
I don't care!

[Again, Rush turns and begins to walk away and again, Scott grabs him.]

SCOTT

Listen, Rush! I get it, okay. I can see how angry you are. But you're going to get yourself killed. You have no idea where he could be hiding. Just give me a second.
(into radio)

Lieutenant James, do you read?

[Greer is coming through the ravine and arrives at Scott and Rush's position.]

JAMES

(over radio)

Yes, Sir.

SCOTT

(into radio)

We will call our position due west of the 'gate.

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

SCOTT

(over radio)

I want two men left behind to guard the 'gate in case he circles back. The rest will split up into two teams of three. One will head southwest, the other northwest. Radio contact every fifteen minutes.

JAMES

(into radio)

Roger that.

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

JAMES

(over radio)

James out.

SCOTT

(to Rush)

Do I need to send you back to Destiny, or are you here to help?

[Once more, Rush tries to walk away and once more, Scott grabs him.]

SCOTT
Rush, listen. Listen! We have orders. Right now, we need him alive. And as far as I'm concerned, as soon as the Colonel's done with him, you can whatever the hell you want to the son of a bitch. I don't care.

GREER
If you don't kill him, I will.

SCOTT
Right now, there could be lives at stake. People back on Earth. We may be a billion light-years away, but we still may be able to do something about it. Are you hearing me?

[Rush nods.]

SCOTT
Okay. We got nine hours until Destiny jumps back into FTL. If we have not found him in four and a half, we are turning back. Let's move.

[Rush nods again, and they move off. They are walking on higher ground now, across the rocks.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Brody and Volker sit at control stations.]

BRODY
Hey, you okay?

VOLKER
Yeah. I just-I don't understand why he let me live.

BRODY
Well, he's a soldier. I mean, to him, this is a war, and you were unarmed.

VOLKER
What, you think he was being honorable?

BRODY
That, or he knew how much it would torture you.

[Eli enters the bridge and goes to sit in the central command chair.]

ELI

(forlornly)

Colonel Young wants us to stall the clock. So that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to figure out how to stall the clock.

[Park enters the bridge.]

PARK
Hey, what can I do?

[Volker goes to her.]

VOLKER
Hey! Are you okay?

PARK
Yeah, I'm fine.

VOLKER
Look, I-I'm-I'm so sorry.

PARK
Yeah, I know. You did everything you could.

[She looks down awkwardly and walks around him.]

BRODY
You sure you're all right?

PARK

(taking a seat at a console)

Yeah. Where are we at?

ELI
We're trying to stall the clock.

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ has finished working on a patient. She looks exhausted as she takes off her gloves. Young enters the infirmary.]

YOUNG
Hey, TJ.

TJ
Dunning, Graham and Loheed are all probably going to make it. Infection is always a risk.

YOUNG
Well, uh, how about Henderson?

[TJ frowns and shakes her head. Young puts his hand on her shoulder and looks around the infirmary where patients lie on gurneys and blood-soaked bandages litter the floor.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[Scott, Greer and Rush are making their way across the desolate surface of the planet, along what looks like a dry river bed between numerous rocky outcrops.]

SCOTT
This message you found in the ship's database.

RUSH
More of a signal, a repeating pattern.

SCOTT
Do you have any idea what it means?

RUSH
No.

SCOTT
You obviously think it's important.

[They stop walking. Scott takes off his pack and Greer crouches down, looking at the sandy ground.]

RUSH

(laughing dryly)
Yes, it's important. Its existence defies the very laws of physics. Is it a message from God? The Almighty creator of the universe, as I'm sure you would like to believe. Well, I don't know. We'll just have to wait and see, won't we?
(picking up Scott's pack)

Let's go.

[Rush walks off.]

GREER
I don't care if the Colonel forgives him. I never will.

SCOTT
Well, I'm not sure if anyone's forgiven him, but maybe he's right. Fulfilling Destiny's mission's the best chance of getting home one day.

GREER
All I'm saying is, from now on, he'd better watch his own back.

[They walk off in the direction Rush went.]

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Young has joined Brody, Eli, Park and Volker on the bridge.]

BRODY
Well, we have no control over the clock yet. We're definitely not going to solve this before Destiny jumps back into FTL this time.

YOUNG
This time?

BRODY
Well, we have to stay in FTL a minimum of four hours, at which point we can drop back out again. The good news is we'll still be in range. That'll be our last chance, though.

[Young looks from Brody to Volker to the countdown clock.]

GREER

(voice)

Not much time left.

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[Greer, Scott and Rush are standing on the top of an outcrop. Scott is surveying the area through binoculars.]

RUSH
They'll still be able to drop out in range.

SCOTT
Check it out.

[Scott hands Rush the binoculars.]

RUSH
What is it?

SCOTT
Some kind of animal.

[We see the view through the binoculars. There is a large grazing animal. It is standing on two large hind legs and has two small forelimbs, a long, thick tail and a large head.]

GREER
Is it something we can barbecue?

[Rush hands Scott the binoculars, and they move out.]

INT—DESTINY, CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[Chloe is writing equations on the wall of her quarters with a piece of chalk. She notices the sound of the ship's drives engaging and goes to the window.]

EXT—DESTINY

[The ship jumps into FTL.]

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

[Greer, Scott and Rush are walking along the base of a ravine. Rush becomes emotional and eventually drops the pack he is carrying and sits on a rock, crying. Scott nods to Greer to stand by while he goes over to Rush. He gives Rush a water bottle and then sits on a rock nearby. Rush weeps quietly.]

SCOTT
I can see why you would…blame yourself. For what it's worth, you didn't mean for this to happen.

RUSH
I brought her on board.

SCOTT
I understand why you kept the secret. You felt you couldn't trust Colonel Young. But we're going to have to work these things out. All of us, together. From now on. Learn to trust each other.

RUSH
What happened to following orders?

SCOTT
Yeah, well some things are more complicated than that.

RUSH
Congratulations.

SCOTT
Well, I'm saying…we have to try and figure out what's right.

RUSH

(breaking down again, shaking his head)

Not me.

SCOTT
Revenge isn't going to bring her back.

RUSH
I know.

SCOTT
You think it's going to make it easier to live with?

[Rush shakes his head.]

SCOTT

(standing up)

I don't even know if we're going to find him, anyway. He could be hiding anywhere.

[Meanwhile, Greer is inspecting the ground nearby.]

SCOTT
At least the good news is he'll probably die a miserable death out here.

RUSH
He's got a kino remote. He'll probably wait for us to leave and then try and use the gate to find his way back to the Lucian Alliance we left behind.

GREER
Lieutenant!

[Scott and Rush go over to where Greer is crouched down, pointing at the ground in front of him.]

GREER
That looks like a track.

[Simeon is positioned in the rocks above, where he is watching through the sight on his rifle. In the ravine now, a shot ricochets off the ground near Greer's feet. It is followed by several more shots as Scott, Greer and Rush head for cover. Rush gets out the kino remote to look for where the shots came from.]

SCOTT
You see him?

GREER

(pointing at a ridge)

I think he's up there.

[Simeon watches Greer through the site of his rifle. He fires, and a shot hits the dirt in front of Greer. Greer ducks down, and Simeon looks towards their position.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

James, this is Scott. Do you read?

JAMES

(over radio)

Go ahead, Lieutenant.

SCOTT

(into radio)

Yeah, he's got us pinned down.

JAMES

(over radio)

We heard the shots.

SCOTT

(into radio)

All right, good. That means you're close. We are at the bottom of a canyon, and he is dug in somewhere on a ridge northwest of our position.

JAMES

(over radio)

I see the canyon. We're topside, moving to flank him now. ETA is five minutes.

SCOTT

(into radio)

Copy that.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[Eli is still in the command chair while the others continue to work at the other consoles.]

CHLOE

(over radio)

Eli? Eli, it's Chloe. Can you hear me?

[Eli waits a moment then picks up the radio.]

ELI

(into radio)

I can hear you.

INT—CHLOE'S QUARTERS

CHLOE

(into radio)

TJ told me what happened.

INT—BRIDGE

CHLOE

(over radio)

I'm really sorry.

ELI

(brusquely, into radio)
Look, I can't talk right now.
(to Volker)

What are you doing? Are you in the navigation interface?

VOLKER
Yeah.

ELI
I told you to stay out of that.

VOLKER
Sorry, I just, um—

[Eli goes over to Volker's position, pushes him aside and makes inputs at his console.]

ELI
You know, this is complicated enough without you messing up everything I'm trying to do.

[The scientists look shocked at Eli as he returns to the command chair and picks up the radio.]

CHLOE

(over radio)

Eli.

ELI

(into radio)

Sorry, I don't have time right now. I'll…

INT—CHLOE'S QUARTERS

ELI

(over radio)

…come and see you later.

INT—BRIDGE

[Brody, Volker, and Park exchange looks.]

BRODY
We need to drop out.

ELI

(frustrated)

So, drop out!

BRODY
Just warning you.

ELI
Great.

[Eli returns to work on his console.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny drops out of FTL.]

INT—BRIDGE

[The countdown clock activates.]

VOLKER
Eight hours.

PARK

(sighing)

Great.

BRODY

(into radio)

Colonel Young, this is Brody.

YOUNG

(over radio)

Go ahead.

BRODY

(into radio)

We've got eight hours on the clock.

YOUNG

(over radio)

I'll notify the team on the planet.

BRODY

(into radio)

One last time, to be clear, Sir. This will be our last window.

YOUNG

(over radio)

Understood. Young out.

[Park goes over to Eli.]

PARK
Eli…

ELI
Just leave me alone. Okay?

[Park nods and walks away.]

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

[Still pinned down, Greer watches for movement from Simeon while Scott watches Rush doing something on the kino remote.]

EXT—PLANET, ABOVE RAVINE, DAY

[James and her team are making their way to the position Scott gave them.]

JAMES

(into radio)

Lieutenant, we're approaching his position.

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

JAMES

(over radio)

Stand by.

SCOTT

(into radio)

Roger that.

[Rush looks up from the kino remote and slowly stands up.]

SCOTT
Rush! Get down!

EXT—PLANET, ABOVE RAVINE, DAY

[James and her team approach the position.]

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

RUSH
Tell them to get back.

EXT—PLANET, ABOVE RAVINE, DAY

[James and her team get closer.]

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

RUSH

(forcefully)

Tell them to get back!

SCOTT

(into radio)

Get back!

EXT—PLANET, ABOVE RAVINE, DAY

[James edges closer. There is a bag in the rocks just below them.]

SCOTT

(over radio)

It is a trap! I repeat.

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

SCOTT

(into radio)

It is a trap!

EXT—PLANET, ABOVE RAVINE, DAY

JAMES

(yelling)

Take cover!

[They turn to take cover just as there is massive explosion below.]

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

[The explosion can be seen from their position, and Scott, Greer and Rush duck for cover.]

EXT—PLANET, ABOVE RAVINE, DAY

[James and her men are all thrown to the ground by the blast, some consumed by smoke and debris.]

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

SCOTT

(yelling into radio)

James! James, come in!

EXT—PLANET, ABOVE RAVINE, DAY

[The smoke is clearing as James slowly lifts her head. She has blood running down her face from under her helmet. She groans as she rises to her knees. One of her men is lying just below the ridge, motionless, the other struggles to his feet behind her.]

JAMES

(into radio)

Sir.

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

JAMES

(over radio)

We got wounded up here.

SCOTT

(into radio)

How bad?

EXT—PLANET, ABOVE RAVINE, DAY

JAMES

(into radio)

Torres is unconscious, looks like Webber's arm is broken.

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

SCOTT

(into radio)

Corporal Lee, do you read?

LEE

(over radio)

Read you, Lieutenant. Moving to cover Lieutenant James' position.

[Rush is still looking at the kino remote.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Assist with getting the wounded back to the Stargate.

LEE

(over radio)

Yes, Sir.

GREER
How did you know?

RUSH
I had a feeling. I stood up and presented a target; he didn't shoot.

JAMES

(over radio)

What about you, Sir?

EXT—PLANET, ABOVE RAVINE, DAY

JAMES

(into radio)

We can't leave you here without backup.

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

SCOTT

(into radio)
Stand by.
(to Rush)

I saw you doing something with that kino remote.

RUSH
Yeah, I was checking the time.

SCOTT

(yelling)

Damn it, Rush! Stop lying to me!

RUSH
Okay! I thought there might be a way for one remote to pinpoint the location of another.

SCOTT
You knew he wasn't on that ridge any more.

RUSH
Well, I've only figured it out now!

GREER
Do you know his position?

RUSH
Yes, I think so.

SCOTT

(into radio)

James.

EXT—PLANET, ABOVE RAVINE, DAY

SCOTT

(over radio)

We think we've found a way of tracking Simeon using the kino remote. Get the wounded safely back to the 'gate and check back in.

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

SCOTT

(into radio)

By my calculations, we've got a little less than an hour before we've got to turn back.

EXT—PLANET, ABOVE RAVINE, DAY

SCOTT

(over radio)

We are going after him.

JAMES

(into radio, pleased)

Roger that.

EXT—PLANET, RAVINE, DAY

SCOTT
Let's move.

INT—DESTINY, ARMORY

[Eli is in the armory, putting on fatigues. There is a selection of guns on the bench by him. Young enters.]

YOUNG
Hey, Eli. What are you doing?

ELI
I'm going to help on the planet. And I don't care what you say. I'm not going to be able to figure out how to stall the clock in the time we have.

YOUNG
What, uh, exactly do you think you're going to do on the planet?

ELI
I don't know. Something.

YOUNG
He's already injured two more Marines. These are highly trained combat s—

ELI

(shouting over him)

Do you even know how complicated Ancient programming algorithms are? Because Rush didn't solve it and he's had a couple of months.

YOUNG
I need you to get back to the bridge.

ELI

(agitated)

Even if I could find a way to quickly bypass all the protocols and add time to the clock, I have no idea what the consequences might be down the line. For all I know, we may end up burning out all our power before we reach the next star. Are…are you ordering me to do that?

YOUNG

(calmly)

I am considering the fact that we may be able to save lives on Earth.

ELI

(defiantly)

Only if we catch Simeon alive and if he just tells you what you want to know. Because, really, what are the chances of that? Now, are you going to let me have one of these weapons, or not?

YOUNG
You're angry? It that it, Eli? I get that. I also know that this is not something that is in you, and that's not something that you should be ashamed of. Now, listen to me. Killing someone, no matter how much you think they deserve it, is going to change you. All right? Don't you act like you are the only person aboard this ship that has lost someone that they care about.

ELI

(defeated)

I know.

YOUNG
Good. I need you to get back to the bridge.

[Young walks out; Eli grimaces.]

EXT—PLANET, DAY

[Simeon is walking across a sandy plain towards a large outcrop of rocks. Scott, Greer and Rush are in pursuit. As Simeon climbs the rock, the others see him.]

SCOTT
There!

[They run for cover behind some rocks, and Greer lines up Simeon in the sight of his rifle.]

GREER
Got him.

RUSH
Shoot him!

[Greer fires and the shot hits Simeon in the thigh.]

RUSH
What are you doing? Shoot him!

GREER
I did.

RUSH
Again!

[Greer fires again but the shot hits the rocks just next to Simeon.]

RUSH
What the hell's the matter with you?

[Rush shoves Greer in the back, Greer turns and they shove each other a few times, Scott tries to calm things as they all yell at each other.]

RUSH
You had him in your sights! You let him—

[Shouting.]

RUSH
What's the matter with you?

SCOTT
Rush! He did the right thing.

RUSH
What is the point of being able to track him, if we can't catch up to him?

SCOTT
He is wounded now. Killing him could kill countless people back on Earth.

RUSH
We are running out of time and you're dreaming if you think he's ever going to tell you what you want to know!

[Suddenly, a shot rings out and hits Greer in the shoulder. He falls to the ground and Scott goes to him.]

SCOTT
Hey! Easy, easy.

[Greer cries in pain.]

SCOTT
Buddy, you're going to be okay. It doesn't look that bad.

[Scott takes a dressing from his vest pocket and presses to Greer's wound.]

SCOTT
Rush! Rush!

[Rush is nowhere to be seen. Greer yells in pain.]

SCOTT
Oooh, I've got to get you back to the ship.

GREER
Go, go, go get him. I-I'm fine.

SCOTT
No, you're not. You are bleeding pretty bad.

GREER
I thought you said it didn't look that bad.

SCOTT

Ah, I lied.
(into radio)

Rush, you've got to listen to me. Greer has been hit.

EXT—PLANET, RUSH'S POSITION, DAY

[Rush is walking along some distance away. He has Scott's pack.]

SCOTT

(over radio)

I've got to get him back to the 'gate. You are right, we are out of time, you have to turn back. Do you hear me? This is not worth it.

[Rush looks back a moment but keeps walking.]

EXT—PLANET, SCOTT'S POSITION, DAY

SCOTT

(into radio)

We need you, Rush.

EXT—PLANET, RUSH'S POSITION, DAY

[Rush is looking at the kino remote as he walks.]

SCOTT

(over radio)

Don't throw everything away for this.

EXT—PLANET, SCOTT'S POSITION, DAY

SCOTT

(into radio)

Rush!

[Greer is bleeding heavily and grunting in pain.]

EXT—PLANET, RUSH'S POSITION, DAY

[Rush continues to walk.]

SCOTT

(over radio)

Rush!

INT—DESTINY, CHLOE'S QUARTERS

[Young arrives at Chloe's quarters and opens the door. She is standing on the other side of the room, writing equations on the wall. They look at each other for a moment.]

INT—BRIDGE

[Chloe and Young enter the bridge. Chloe's guard follows.]

YOUNG
She says she can help.

[Eli, Park, Brody and Volker look at Chloe.]

ELI
Really? How?

CHLOE
You know Rush has been giving me problems to solve, equations. I didn't understand any of it at first, but I would stare at it for hours and then suddenly, something would pop into my head and-and I would write it down.

ELI
Yeah, I know. Look, I get it. You want to help—

CHLOE
No, the point is, I think I'm starting to understand it, Eli. It's like I'm slowly getting control of whatever is in my head.

BRODY
Or it's getting control of you.

ELI

(to Young)

You really want us to give her access to the ship's systems?

CHLOE
Eli, this is me talking. Please. I really think if I could just see what the problems are…

YOUNG
It can't hurt to let her look, can it?

VOLKER
Actually, yes, it could. We're assuming that any solutions she may provide us are what we really need.

BRODY
Yeah, and not some subroutine that could sabotage the ship. The last thing we need right now are those aliens attacking us again.

YOUNG
And that's what I am counting on all of you for.

[Young leaves the bridge, and Eli beckons Chloe to a console.]

EXT—PLANET, SIMEON'S POSITION, DAY

[Simeon is sitting against a large rock, using a small blowtorch to heat the blade of his knife. He then uses the blade to cauterize the wound in his leg. He pants in pain but doesn't make a sound.]

SIMEON

(into radio, almost taunting)

Rush. I know you didn't care enough about Ginn to risk your life coming after me. I'm sure it was that other woman she was connected to, huh?

EXT—PLANET, RUSH'S POSITION, DAY

[Rush continues walking.]

SIMEON

(over radio)

You must have really cared for her. I understand revenge. Your people have killed enough of mine.

EXT—PLANET, SIMEON'S POSITION, DAY

SIMEON

(into radio)

People I cared about. I let you live. You know why? I wanted you to live with it, the way I have.

EXT—PLANET, RUSH'S POSITION, DAY

SIMEON

(over radio)

I wanted the pain to eat you alive. I know it's a fate worse than death.

EXT—PLANET, SIMEON'S POSITION, DAY

SIMEON

(into radio)

I let you live, but next time I won't. You want your revenge? You come and get it, Rush. I'm going to put you out of your misery.

EXT—PLANET, RUSH'S POSITION, DAY

SIMEON

(over radio)

Come and get me.

INT—DESTINY BRIDGE

[While everyone else works, Chloe is staring at a screen at one of the control consoles. Suddenly, she activates the keys on the console and continues, pushing buttons very rapidly as images appear on the screen.]

ELI
Hey, what are you doing?

[She doesn't respond.]

ELI
Chloe!

BRODY
Stop her!

[Eli pulls Chloe's hands away from the console. Brody shuts it down.]

CHLOE
It's okay.

ELI
What do mean, "It's okay"? What did you just do?

CHLOE
I don't know, but it's okay.

ELI

(holding her hands)

You said you were in control.

CHLOE
Yeah, I am.

ELI
Do you even know what you just did?

CHLOE

(frightened)

No. I'm sorry, I…

[Eli beckons to Chloe's guard.]

ELI
You should go back to your quarters.

BRODY
Come on.

ELI
Come on.

[Brody sits at the console, while Park and Volker come and look over his shoulder. Chloe walks out, followed by her guard.]

BRODY
Eli? You should look at this.

[Eli comes and looks at the screen.]

EXT—PLANET, RUSH'S POSITION, DAY

[Rush is watching through binoculars from a high rocky outcrop as Simeon limps across a sandy plain. Scanning around, he sees a large herd of the animals they had seen earlier, grazing some way up the valley floor. He opens Scott's pack to find a block of C4 explosive.]

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

[Scott arrives, helping Greer to walk. James and several soldiers are standing guard at the 'gate. One of the soldiers goes to help with Greer.]

SCOTT
They stalled the clock yet?

JAMES
No, Sir. Less that two hours now until Destiny jumps again, and they say that's it.

SCOTT
Dial the 'gate.

[James gets into position and begins dialing with the remote.]

JAMES
What about Rush?

[Scott checks his watch and looks back, concerned and discouraged.]

EXT—PLANET, SIMEON'S POSITION, DAY

[Simeon is limping across the wide valley floor when several shots hit the dirt beside him. He turns and sees Rush, standing among some rocks, firing his handgun at him, missing every time. Rush lowers his weapon and Simeon smiles. Rush fires off a few more rounds, until Simeon raises his rifle and starts firing back. Rush takes cover as Simeon continues to advance slowly towards him, firing round after round. Rush fires a few more times, and when he has just one bullet left in the magazine, he takes out a detonator and sets off an explosion up the valley. Simeon looks confused, until he hears a stampede approaching. He turns and stands directly in its path. Rush sits behind the rocks, listening to the herd stampeding past, trampling Simeon. When the herd has passed, Rush walks slowly to where Simeon lies badly injured in the dirt. As Rush approaches, Simeon rolls from his front to his back.]

SIMEON

(speaking with difficulty, but smiling)

I have information.

[Rush raises his gun and fires the bullet at Simeon. He walks away. Later, Scott's backpack on his back, he walks through ravines, over rocks and across sandy plains, in the direction of the Stargate. He is clearly exhausted.]

EXT—PLANET, STARGATE AREA, DAY

[Arriving at the Stargate, perhaps at dusk, Rush finds himself alone. He looks at the ground in despair. Suddenly Scott emerges from behind the Stargate platform; other soldiers emerge from positions all around them. Rush is clearly surprised to see them. He falls to his knees and sighs in relief. Scott and James approach him, Scott holding a water bottle.]

SCOTT
You're late.

RUSH
I know.

SCOTT

(handing him a water bottle)

Nine hours late.

RUSH
How's Greer?

SCOTT
He's going to be okay. You?

[Drinking the water, Rush doesn't respond.]

SCOTT
You didn't answer your radio.

RUSH
The battery died. A long time ago. You didn't come after me.

SCOTT
Well, Eli figured out how to track the kino remote, same way you did. We saw two signals heading back this way together, figured one of you had them both and the other was dead.

RUSH
True.

SCOTT
Man, you couldn't have known you had so much extra time. What in the hell were you thinking?

RUSH
I knew Eli would figure out how to stall the clock.

SCOTT
Really? Because he didn't.

RUSH

(shocked)

What?

SCOTT
Chloe calculated a new FTL course. She turned the ship around to come back and get you.

RUSH

(pleased)

Good for her.

SCOTT
You gave her those equations knowing she might be able to figure it out.

RUSH
I did.

SCOTT

(to James)
Dial the 'gate.
(to Rush)

Eli said there may still be unforeseeable consequences as a result.

RUSH
Well, there always are, aren't there?

SCOTT

I hope you were right about Simeon not telling us about the attack on Earth.
(standing to face the Stargate)

I'd hate to think we could have prevented it.

[He looks down at Rush, who appears guild-ridden and uncertain.]

SCOTT
You feel any better?

[Rush gets slowly to his feet and watches the Stargate activate.]

FADE OUT
