Sci Fi Wire Offering Stargate Universe Q&As

San Diego Comic ConSCI FI WIRE is inviting your questions to pose to the stars of Stargate Universe while they attend the San Diego Comic Con later this week.

Here are the announcement and instructions:

Got a question for your favorite Syfy star? Post it in the comments section below and we’ll ask as many as we can at Comic-Con International later this week. You’ll be able to watch the answers in coming weeks in our exclusive video of the panels right here on SCI FI Wire.

Post a general question or one aimed at a particular cast member of the Syfy series Stargate Universe, Caprica/Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, Eureka, Warehouse 13 or Sanctuary. You can view our Comic-Con schedule and a list of the stars who will be in attendance below. (Please address your questions only to the actors, not the writers or producers.)

Comic-Con runs July 22-26 in San Diego.

Friday, July 24

10:30-11:30 Stargate Universe. A new chapter of the Stargate saga begins with the Syfy original series Stargate Universe. Stars Robert Carlyle (Dr. Nicholas Rush), Brian J. Smith (1st Lt. Matthew Scott), Elyse Levesque (Chloe Armstrong), David Blue (Eli Wallace), Alaina Huffman (1st Lt. Beau Bridges Nominated for Emmy Award

Beau Bridges guests on Desperate Housewives

Stargate star Beau Bridges has been nominated in the 61st Annual Emmy Awards in the “Guest Actor in a Comedy Series” category for his portrayal of Eli Scruggs in the pivotal 100th episode of Desperate Housewives.

Over his career, Bridges has been previously nominated eleven times and won three, according to the LA Times: “lead actor in a movie/mini in 1992 for Without Warning: The James Brady Story and two supporting wins in the movie/mini race for The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom (1993) and The Second Civil War (1997).”

The Emmys will be broadcast on CBS on Sunday, September 20, at 8/7c. Visit their official website for a countdown and further information about the awards program.

Mallozzi Publishes Destiny Images

Finally, creative consultant Joseph Mallozzi has been allowed to publish some of his pictures that he took of the set of Destiny for Stargate Universe while it was being constructed! He had described some his impressions while taking these pictures, but finally seeing the images brings his words to life! Make sure you visit his “Building the Gateroom” entry from July 14, 2009, for what is promised to be just the beginning of his photo journal.

Currently, the cast and crew are on a month-long filming hiatus, but some of them will be making an appearance at the upcoming San Diego Comic Con. Sitting on the Stargate Universe panel, which will be in Ballroom 20 at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 24, are Robert Carlyle, Brian J. Smith, Elyse Levesque, David Blue, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, and Ming-Na, alongside series co-creators Brad Wright and Robert Cooper.

Stargate Universe is scheduled for an October premiere on the Syfy Channel, which has first-run rights. Not long afterward, the show will be premiering on SPACE in Canada and Sky in the UK. It was announced in Syfy’s Australian affiliate’s blog, Sci Fi Pi, that SGU will premiere on October 9, but this has yet to be confirmed by Syfy.

Stargate, Black Win Constellation Awards

Congratulations are in order for Stargate SG-1‘s Claudia Black and the Stargate franchise as a whole as they took home Constellation Awards this past weekend!

TORONTO, ONTARIO–(Marketwire – July 14, 2009) – The winners of the 2009 Constellation Awards, honouring the actors and producers behind Canada’s favourite science fiction TV series and movies, were announced this weekend at ceremonies held at the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel.

“Most of all, I thank you, the fans!” declared Ontario-born actor Michael Hogan as he accepted the trophy for “Best Male Performance in a 2008 Science Fiction Television Episode” for his role as Colonel Tigh in “Battlestar Galactica”. This highly competitive category also included nominees from “Stargate Atlantis”, “Fringe”, “Supernatural”, and “Sanctuary”.

The sentiment was echoed by actress Claudia Black as she accepted the trophy for “Best Female Performance in a 2008 Science Fiction Film” for her role in “Stargate: Continuum”. “To all who voted, I would like to say thank you very much,” she noted, acknowledging that all award winners were selected by popular vote. The Stargate franchise also picked up the most prestigious award of the night, “Outstanding Canadian Contribution to Science Fiction Film or Television in 2008” which was accepted at the ceremonies by Canadian actors David and Kate Hewlett from “Stargate Atlantis”.

The most competitive category of the evening was the award for “Best Male Performance in a 2008 Science Fiction Film”, where Robert Downey Jr.’s performance in “Iron Man” nudged out Heath Ledger, Neil Patrick Harris, Richard Dean Anderson and Ron Perlman for the win.

Disney/Pixar’s “Wall-E” was another multiple winner, picking up the awards for “Best Technical Accomplishment in a 2008 Science Fiction Film or Television Production” and “Best Science Fiction Film of 2008”. However it was the British Science Fiction series “Doctor Who” that ended up the biggest winner of the evening, picking up three trophies including “Best Science Fiction Television Series of 2008”.

Michael Shanks Moderating Burn Notice Panel

Michael Shanks as VictorStargate star Michael Shanks will be the moderator for the first ever Burn Notice panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con!

The press release put out made a mistake that Shanks will be returning next year for a four-episode arc, but Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune confirmed on her Twitter, “Michael Shanks is NOT returning to #BurnNotice. Lil’ mistake there in press release. He IS moderating Comic-Con panel #SDCC.”

Participating in the panel: “Cast members Bruce Campbell who stars as Sam Axe, everyone’s favorite washed-up military intelligence officer; Seth Peterson who plays Nate Westen, Michael’s (Jeffrey Donovan) brother; Ben Shenkman who plays Strickler, a smooth-talking, gregarious freelance spy broker; and Jay Karnes who plays Brennen, an arms dealer who has a vendetta against Michael upon ruining a lucrative deal he had in the works. No stranger to Comic-Con, Campbell is a fan favorite from such hits as Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2. Along with the four stars, creator/writer/executive producer Matt Nix and co-executive producer/writer Alfredo Barrios Jr. will give an insider’s look at the writing process and share behind-the-scenes anecdotes.
