Stargate Universe Cast Photo!

Michael Ausiello at EW has given us a photo of the cast of Stargate Universe, but he wasn’t bothered with labeling who’s who. Instead, he told us to pass the picture around and label it on our own. (He said, “Study it. Discuss it. Share it with friends. And then try connect the names with the faces, ’cause I don’t have the time to do that whole left-right-front row-back row thing.”)

So, here it is:

SGU Cast

Back Row. Left to Right: Ming-Na (Camille Wray), Justin Louis (Col. Everett Young), Jamil Walker Smith (Sgt. Ronald Greer), Brian J. Smith (Lt. Matthew Scott), Lou Diamond Phillips (Col. Telford)

Middle: Alaina Huffman (MSGT Tamara Johansen), David Blue (Eli Wallace), Elyse Levesque (Chloe Armstrong)

Front: Robert Carlyle (Dr. Nicholas Rush)

Stargate SG-1 Season One on Hulu

Stargate SG-1 title

Start from the beginning of Stargate Command as they put together their first teams to explore the galaxy through the Stargate. Certainly, they needed to find advanced technology, but they also needed to form alliances with other races who could help them free the billions of slaves—of many species—who were at the mercy of the powerful Goa’uld System Lords.

HULU (US only) now has the first season of Stargate SG-1 so you can catch the story of how Colonel Jack O’Neill, Dr. Daniel Jackson, Captain Samantha Carter, and the Jaffa warrior Teal’c became the legendary SG-1 under the command of Major General George Hammond.

First 10 Stargate Universe Episodes Have Titles

Stargate Universe Banner from MGM

Stargate Universe consulting producer Joseph Mallozzi gave his readers the title of the first part of the mid-season two-parter that he’s penning: “Space”. With this title, we now have the names of the first ten episodes of the first season, which consists of 20 episodes.

  • 1.01 “Air Part 1” (written by Robert C. Cooper and Brad Wright; directed by Andy Mikita)
  • 1.02 “Air Part 2” (same as above)
  • 1.03 “Air Part 3” (same as above)
  • 1.04 “Fire” (written by Brad Wright; directed by Peter DeLuise)
  • 1.05 “Water” (written by Carl Binder)
  • 1.06 “Earth” (written by Martin Gero)
  • 1.07 “Time” (written by Robert C. Cooper)
  • 1.08 “Life” (written by Carl Binder)
  • 1.09 “Justice” (written by Alan McCullough; polished by Paul Mullie)
  • 1.10 “Space Part 1” (written by Joseph Mallozzi)

When the writers began their first session for pitching and spinning story ideas back in November, Robert C. Cooper and Brad Wright already had the ideas in place for eight of the stories, so it’s possible that these series co-creators will be given “story by” credits.

As always, the names and order of these episodes are subject to change as they are in production. Visit the Stargate Universe Main Page in the Stargate Wiki for the latest updates.

The cast and crew are currently filming the opening three-parter “Air” and prep work has commenced for “Fire”. The Sci Fi Channel will be showing a teaser trailer for the new show during the series finale of Battlestar Galactica, which begins at 9 PM this Friday, March 20. The network has also advertised that a sneak peek is to be shown during the airing of Stargate: The Ark of Truth on Friday, March 27, and of Stargate: Continuum on Friday, April 3 (both movies start at 9 PM).

Tapping on Coming Back to Stargate

Stargate star Amanda Tapping was recently at the Sci Fi Channel Upfronts to represent her new show Sanctuary, but the subject of returning to Stargate is always at the top of interviewers’ lists of questions. When asked how eager she was to play Col. Samantha Carter again (for at least the third SG-1 movie being penned by Brad Wright and Carl Binder), Tapping said, “Oh, I love it. It’s such a comfortable place to go. We say this all the time with Stargate, but it’s such a family, and it’s just nice when the family gets back together. It’s very easy and it’s fun. You fall into that same crazy vibe, and it’s great.”

The last word on the movie has been that Brad Wright is currently reviewing the script that Carl Binder wrote based on their outline. They have been aiming to film the movie this spring or early summer, but it’s possible that this schedule has had to be revised due to the tight scheduling brought about by the production of Stargate Universe. This tight schedule has caused them to slide the filming of the first Atlantis movie until the fall, but it’s currently not known if it has affected the production of the SG-1 movie, which seems to be running on a different timetable than the Atlantis movie. The Atlantis movie’s script hasn’t been written yet, but is currently at the detailed outline stage.

Richard Dean Anderson and most of the Season Ten cast of SG-1 are expected to be included in the untitled O’Neill-centric story that Brad Wright pitched over a year ago to MGM. They’ve lined up Martin Wood to direct the film, but Wright said that MGM will not officially announce the movie until after certain deals have been made. It’s expected that this movie will be released directly to video like its two predecessors. The many months required to produce and market it probably mean that we won’t see this movie until 2010.

Carlyle: Stargate Universe is Darkest Stargate

Robert Carlyle cast as Dr. Nicholas Rush

Stargate Universe star Robert Carlyle was present at the Sci Fi Channel’s Upfronts, and stopped to talk with io9’s Meredith Woerner about his character, the cast, and the premise behind the newest installment in the Stargate franchise.

“I guess what makes this Stargate different from the previous shows in the franchise is it’s a lot darker than the other ones,” the lead actor stated. “This has less to do with interaction with an alien race and more about survival on the ship itself.”

Possible spoilers ahead.

Woerner explains, “The team that is there is ill-equipped to be there. So the first six or seven episodes are actually all called ‘Air,’ ‘Fire,’ ‘Water’ and ‘Earth’ because it’s about surviving amongst that, it’s more drama-based and more character-driven.”

Carlyle explains in more detail about why he considers this particular installment darker, “In the first three hours there are three deaths. It’s very heavy. There’s a suicide by episode six, as well. Because these people are in the far reaches of the universe, never to come home. That’s the thing Rush explains, that it’s impossible to go back. And they don’t know where else to turn.”

Dr. Nicholas Rush, Carlyle’s character, was described as “a bit out of his senses,” but the actor clarifies, “Well not really, from his point of view, but the others think that he’s maybe losing it. But he does things for a reason.”

But not to go too dark, SGU will have some of Stargate‘s trademark humor. “David Blue [who plays Eli Wallace], particularly … he’s naturally funny anyway, he plays a kind of a comic relief, I guess, on the show.”

Stargate Universe is currently filming in Vancouver and is slated to premiere this fall on the SyFy Channel.

SGU Spoilers: "Earth"

Spoiler Warning

This article contains spoilers for the episode “Earth”, written by Martin Gero. It is currently slated to be the sixth episode in the first season of Stargate Universe.

Details

The casting sides for DALE STROM call for O’NEILL (is this our Maj. General Jack O’Neill from Homeworld Security fame, played by Richard Dean Anderson?), WILLIAMS, YOUNG (Justin Louis), and WRAY (Ming-Na). The majority of STROM’s dialogue is with WRAY.

YOUNG and O’NEILL are discussing a problem that YOUNG believes they have some time to solve and O’NEILL supports YOUNG’s position as the one best to weigh the risks of survival.

In a park in Washington (D.C.?), STROM and WRAY discuss how WRAY is adjusting to her new circumstances (stranded on the Destiny). STROM tells her she’s their eyes and ears. WRAY knows that STROM had a hand in passing her over for promotion four times, so there isn’t any love lost between the two. STROM wants WRAY to push the solution that is being offered that could see the people aboard the Destiny return home, but she knows it is highly risky and could get them killed instead. This solution is experimental, but if successful, could enable the dialing to the Destiny without another Icarus-type planet (the Icarus Base was attacked in the series premiere “Air” and was lost). Not only do they hope to send the intended team, most likely led by COL. TELFORD (Lou Diamond Phillips), to the ship, but they hope that they can re-engineer one of Earth’s ships using the data (perhaps as a substitute base in the Milky Way). They have a great discovery on their hands now that they know where the ninth chevron leads.

WRAY realizes that RUSH would have been the better choice in discussing this solution, but STROM confides that the IOA believes that RUSH doesn’t really want to come home and sees their circumstances as a way to take a shot at leading the expedition. WRAY believes that COL. YOUNG will keep control, but STROM believes that this situation could improve WRAY’s vie for power on the ship. If WRAY is in charge, then so is the IOA.
