Neilsen Remakes Ratings for New TV World

Television shows live or die by their “Neilsen Ratings,” which attempt to measure ‘the who and how many’ of television viewing. Now Neilsen has announced grand plans to capture all the ways people watch television content in the digital age.

From this article in Broadcasting and Cable:

In a manifesto delivered to ad agencies, networks and broadcast stations Wednesday, Nielsen declares that it is committed to “follow the video” with an “all-electronic measurement system that will deliver integrated ratings for television viewing regardless of the platform on which it is consumed.” The plan is dubbed “Anytime Anywhere Media Measurement” or A2/M2.

Such measurements might boost the ratings of sci fi shows, whose viewers tend to be more tech savvy and to watch in unconventional ways.
