TV Guide: 'Gate Expectations: SG-1 OK'd for Two Films

Tying up loose ends

Matt Mitovich has posted in TV Guide Community that Stargate SG-1 will conclude with two movies, most likely for DVD:

Stargate SG-1 may be winding down its 10-year-run this spring, but here’s some exciting news for its fans. MGM has granted a green light — and enough money — to produce two movies, most likely for DVD, executive producer Brad Wright tells TV Guide. The first flick will tie up most of the finale’s loose threads — “It’s the climax of the Ori story line” — and will be written-directed by exec producer Robert Cooper. The second film, penned by Wright, will involve time travel, and both projects should debut in the fall of 2007. Though no deals are signed, SG-1’s stars are said to be “very eager” to continue. “They’re not big-budget [films] by any definition, but for us it’s pretty good,” says Wright. “As we’ve proven over the years, just give us little more money and we can make pretty good television, or DVDs.

“There’s a sense of an era for us ending,” Wright continues, “but at the same time, we’re all positive because of the prospect of continuing forward with movies and the introduction next year of Stargate Worlds, a massive multiplayer online game.”

  1. So if the movies are made for DVD does that mean it wont be on the big screen or t.v….DVD only?????

  2. Hell yeah! Glad to know they’ll continue on.

Louis- I’m sure they’ll appear on T.V. as well, prob. just release on DVD first, then move to TV…anyhoo, who cares!!! As long as the saga continues!!

P.S. Is anyone out there upset about not seeing as much of the charactor Carter anymore? And we need more O’Neal spots…wonder how we relate this to the writers of the new films;-) To be honest, not at all a fan of Vala, annoying! But I’m a traditionalist, sorry………..

  3. Im with u Idbug not a vala or browder fan….and the saga continues…..

  4. Well, Browder was Ok at first, funny actually with the first spots…just miss RDA. I’m one of those that started watching b/c was a fan of McGyver…..

And I like that Carter was always so smart and cool. The charactor represents women really well in science! We have enough difficulties as is in the real world, it doesn’t help to have a silly lady (Vala charactor, not the actress, she is TOTALLy cool) to add to the already heavily sexist communtiy……….

  5. Im a big RDA fan I go back to Mcgyver ….hope he has a big part in these 2 movies they are talking about not just a small hello and good-bye part .

  6. So 2 movies. Guess that’s OK. I’ll buy them but that is no substitute for another season 🙁
