Tonight’s episode of the popular game show Jeopardy! will feature a category on the Sci Fi Channel (USA). This game show, hosted by Alex Trebek, is currently in its 23rd season.
The College Championship is currently in progress from April 30 to May 11. According to the show’s official website:
In this classic Jeopardy! Tournament format, each of the 15 students competes in the first week of five games. The winners of those games advance to the semi-final matches along with the 4 highest non-winners. The three winners of those games face off in a two-day final competition. Grand Prize is $100,000! Second and third place win a minimum of $50,000 and $25,000 respectively. Semi-finalists earn $10,000 and quarter-finalists take home $5,000.
According to SCI FI WIRE, “The May 8 episode of the syndicated game show will feature “SCI FI Channel” as a “Double Jeopardy!” category, with clues about the network’s programs, characters and prologues.”
Even if Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis are new to Jeopardy!, the game show is not new to the characters of Stargate Atlantis. In the second season episode “The Long Goodbye”, Sheppard and McKay describe the Earth custom of watching television to their team’s new alien member, Ronon Dex:
SHEPPARD
There are educational programs, all sorts of documentaries. Not many people watch them but, uh, well, they’re on.DEX
And that’s what everybody on your planet does for entertainment? Watch a box?MCKAY
Not everyone. Although I will confess to the occasional half hour of Jeopardy.DEX
Jeopardy?MCKAY
It’s the name of the show: Jeopardy.DEX
Sounds dangerous.SHEPPARD
Double jeopardy. That’s twice as dangerous.
