Sean Huxter writes in his “Cool Stuff” column at SCI FI WEEKLY, “The Wraith cuts an impressive figure,” concerning Diamond Select Toys’ Stargate Atlantis 7-inch action figures.
The set that Huxter reviewed included Dr. Weir, Lt. Col. Sheppard, Field Ops Weir, Field Ops Sheppard and a Wraith (although there was a snafu in the sending of the Field Ops Sheppard, much to Huxter’s dismay). Huxter notes that the figures are under seven inches in height and in scale with the action figures from Stargate SG-1, Star Trek, and Battlestar Galactica.
Of particular note is Lt. Col. John Sheppard’s “strange smirk” (fans will also notice that Sheppard’s untamed hair has been immortalized as well, although Huxter doesn’t discuss it in this review). Huxter lamented about not recognizing the two devices included with Weir, “A real fan-geek would know what they are. I’m at a loss. One resembles a tentacled jellyfish, and the other is a small pillar of clear crystal.” Added to Huxter’s confusion is the device that Field Ops Sheppard, which is a Previews Exclusive, carries: “He comes with the same equipment Field Ops Weir has, with an additional round device of apparently alien origin.”
The Wraith’s figure impressed Huxter the most, even with its limited head movement due to the long hair. Unfortunately, Huxter wasn’t able to identify the Wraith’s equipment any better than those for Weir and Sheppard: “Wraith comes with three pieces of gear—a hand-held weapon that looks as if it was made from the limb of an alien insect, a Wraith pistol and a small egg-shaped device, the same one Field Ops Sheppard has.”
But, as Huxter noted earlier, only a “real fan-geek would know.”
