2005 Was SCI FI’s Best Yet

The year 2005 was SCI FI Channel’s highest-rated and most-watched year to date, the network announced. SCI FI ended the year with its highest average viewership ever in key demographics and its highest household rating ever (1.03) in prime time. For the fourth year in a row, SCI FI averaged more than 1 million viewers in prime time. The channel also delivered a 1.0 household average rating in 2005, marking the third straight year SCI FI has maintained a 1.0 rating in prime time.

Now distributed to 85 million homes, SCI FI scored with viewers in nearly every key demographic, ranking within the top 10 of all basic cable networks for ratings among adults aged 25-54, men 25-54, adults 18-49, men 18-49 and women 25-54. The channel also ranked 10th for household ratings among all measured, non-news, non-sports, ad-supported basic cable nets in prime time. SCI FI continues to attract younger viewers, with 2005 marking the channel’s fifth straight year of growth among adults 18-34.

NEW YORK — December 28, 2005 — SCI FI celebrates 2005 with the Channel’s highest-rated and most-watched year to date. SCI FI ended the year with its highest average viewership ever in the key demos of P25-54 (688,000), P18-49 (603,000) P18-34 (200,000) and its highest household rating ever (1.03) in primetime (M-Su, 8P-11P). For the fourth year in a row, SCI FI has averaged over 1 million viewers (P2+) in primetime. The Channel also delivered a 1.0 household average for 2005, marking the third straight year SCI FI has maintained a 1.0HH rating in primetime.

Now distributed to 85 million homes, SCI FI scored with viewers in nearly every key demographic, ranking within the Top 10 of all basic cable networks for ratings among P25-54(#7), M25-54 (#5), P18-49 (#9), M18-49 (#8) and F25-54 (#8). The Channel also ranked 10th for HH ratings among all measured, non-news, non-sports, ad-supported basic cable nets in prime. SCI FI continues to attract younger viewers, with 2005 marking the Channel’s fifth straight year of growth among P18-34.

During 2005, in addition to highly acclaimed original series like Battlestar Galactica and The Triangle, a top-rated major miniseries event, SCI FI secured development deals with Hollywood heavyweights including Nicolas Cage and Michael Douglas.

Highlights for 2005 include:

SCI FI Friday Original Series
· SCI FI Friday was powered by the lineup of Stargate SG-1 (8pm), Stargate Atlantis (9pm) and Battlestar Galactica (10pm), making the Channel the #1 network on Fridays in 1Q05 and 3Q05 (when all three series were in originals) among both P18-49s and P25-54s.
· SCI FI was the top ranked network on Friday nights overall in 2005 for M18-49 and M25-54.
· Battlestar Galactica’s first season was the highest rated ever for a SCI FI Channel Original Series, averaging a 2.4 HH rating and over 2 million P25-54s.

Miniseries
· The SCI FI Channel Original Miniseries Bryan Singer and Dean Devlin Present The Triangle averaged a 3.6 HH rating and nearly 2.4 million P25-54s, making it the highest-rated miniseries to air on the Channel since 2002’s Emmy Award-winning Steven Spielberg Presents TAKEN.

Original Series and Original Movies
· The 13 episode second season of the SCI FI Channel Original Series Ghost Hunters averaged a 1.1 HH rating and 846,000 P25-54s, up +7% from its first season (October 2004). The season finale (October 19, 2005) delivered a series high 1.4 million P25-54s, the top P25-54 delivery for any 4th quarter series telecast in SCI FI Channel history.

· The August 2005 premiere of the SCI FI Channel Original Movie Pterodactyl delivered a record-high 2.6 HH rating.
