"Battlestar" to Get 13 Episodes in Season 4

Hollywood Reporter makes early announcement

Sci Fi Channel’s Battlestar Galactica will return for Season Four in January 2008, but with only 13 episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The article refers to the show’s lower ratings and the move to Sunday nights, but doesn’t give the reasons for the reduced number of episodes for the new season (Stargate Atlantis will be returning for Season Four with 20 episodes):

Meanwhile, Sci Fi is expected to announce Tuesday that it’s giving the critically acclaimed “Battlestar” a fourth-season pickup. The network has ordered 13 episodes, targeted for a January premiere.

Last month, the series relocated from Fridays to a 10 p.m. slot on Sundays, where it has been averaging 1.7 million total viewers.

While the Jan. 21 midseason debut garnered 1.8 million viewers — marking the network’s best performance at 10 p.m. Sundays since June 2003 (“Terminator 2: Judgment Day”) — the third season’s total-viewer average overall is down slightly from the second season.
