Claudia Black on Voice Role in Uncharted 2

We haven’t heard from Claudia Black (Vala Mal Doran) in a while, at least not visually! She just gave a video interview about her voice-over role in the new video game, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. She doesn’t talk about Stargate at all, but it’s interesting to hear her take on how she and her colleague Emily Rose approach being both the voices and the motion-captured movement of two characters in the video game.

Watch the interview here at kotaku.com.

Catch Connor Trinneer in “Star Runners” on Sci Fi

Connor Trinneer stars in the Sci Fi Original Movie Star Runners Saturday June 13 on the Sci Fi Channel in the US, at 9 pm/8 pm Central. It also stars James Kyson Lee of Heroes. Connor mentioned at the Creation convention in Vancouver that he’d had a great time working with James, although at the time he thought the movie was going to be titled Termination Shock. We don’t know much about the movie. Sci Fi gives it the tag line: “Two smugglers. One last job. Hundreds of bugs. All in a day’s work.” Watch the teaser from writer/producer Rafael Jordan’s YouTube page, below!

Further Delay for Stargate Movies?

Fans anxious to hear definite word about the Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis DVD movies must resort to reading the internet tea leaves, as no “official” word seems to be forthcoming, one way or the other.  We’ve heard rumors of filming dates, but none of the cast has said they have a deal in place, and we know the scripts are not yet finalized.

Based on recent hints, fans might need to prepare themselves for yet more uncertainty and delay. First, MGM Studios, which has to fund the movies’ production, is in deep debt amid the current financial turmoil. As the New York Times reported:

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the 85-year-old movie studio behind “The Wizard of Oz” and the James Bond franchise, has hired an adviser to help restructure its mountainous $3.7 billion in debt and keep its film pipeline running,

[…]

Analysts have also grown concerned about the studio’s ability to raise financing for new film production amid the depressed credit markets. MGM has scaled back its ambitions to produce as many as 12 movies a year.

It’s likely that as DVD-only movies, the two Stargate films would not be counted among the 12 productions;  still it does not bode well in that MGM doesn’t seem to have capital to invest in anything remotely risky. The SG-1 movies were by all accounts more successful than expected, but the DVD market has since been in decline, as reported here.

In his blog entry for 12 June, Joe Mallozzi also described some financial realities:

In addition to the stark realities of a suffering DVD market (the victim of a perfect storm of circumstances – the evolution of alternate media platforms, the recession, and – my #1 suspect – Blu-ray). In order to set an official date for the commencement of principal photography, the studio – which is taking the lion’s share of the risk by bankrolling the production – must first sort out a number of issues. Still, as I’ve been saying all along, we all want to make this movie (me most of all as, from a purely mercenary standpoint, I’ll be producing it – and not for free), and we now have a first draft script in place.

These hints point to the need for fans to adjust expectations about filming in 2009. Perhaps we can give MGM the confidence it needs to fund the movies by buying the upcoming Stargate DVD releases: the SG-1 Children of the Gods remix, and Stargate Atlantis Season 5. Strong sales will prove DVDs still have a place on the shelves of Stargate fans!

LA Gater Fan Filming Canceled

We’ve been informed that the event we blogged here, to film Stargate super-fans in LA as part of a reality show, has been canceled due to lack of fan response. The producer has asked us to help spread the word that the fan participation aspect won’t be going forward, although the rest of the project will be. Also they want to assure fans that they would have been “portrayed in the best possible manner, as this is a project to promote the show and the fans that make it popular.”

If you have a particular reason you decided not to participate, feel free to comment on this post!

Shanks to Guest Star on Sanctuary

Michael Shanks (spring/summer 2007)

Joining many other Stargate alumni, Michael Shanks will guest-star on an episode of Sanctuary this coming season. From SciFiWire:

Former Stargate SG-1 star Michael Shanks will appear in an episode of SCI FI’s Sanctuary in its upcoming second season, Shanks’ managers at JDS in Los Angeles told SCI FI Wire. Shanks reunites with his former SG-1 co-star Amanda Tapping, who stars in and produces Sanctuary, in episode 209, entitled “Penance,” which begins filming next week in Vancouver, Canada; he’ll play a character named Jimmy.

Shanks will also be seen in an episode of SCI FI’s upcoming Stargate Universe, reprising the role of Dr. Daniel Jackson.

LA Gaters Wanted for Reality Show Pilot

From the sg1_spoilme list comes this email, which list owner Elyse verified to be legit. That’s all we know about it… and we especially don’t know what point of view the producers will have toward Stargate fans; based on how Star Trek fans are portrayed, we can guess. 🙂

We are working on a project for the Stargate series that will be featured in a reality show pilot episode surrounding the project. We are looking for die hard fanatical Stargate fans to meet with us on Sunset Blvd (Hollywood, CA) for a brief shoot. We are looking for individuals that fit one of the following criteria:

  • Stargate knowledge guru, if you know anything and everything about Stargate and live and breath the series and know ever ridiculously trivial fact about the show.
  • If you have Stargate props, costumes or other Stargate memorabilia, showing up in Jaffa armor would be ideal.
  • If you are the admin or owner of a Stargate forum, fan club, web site, meeting group, etc, we want you there.

There will be NO pay for this shoot, it is purely an opportunity for Stargate fans to get on film and show off their knowledge and props. We would like about 15-25 people for the shoot. It will take approximately 30-40 minutes. The shoot will take place sometime between June 15th & June 21st. If you are interested please e-mail us with the following:

  • Contact name, e-mail and phone number
  • A brief description of your talent, knowledge or props you have available to bring
  • A picture of yourself would be nice, but not required

All eligible candidates will receive the detailed schedule and exact location of the shoot. Thanks!… – Jamie
