New Stargate Guides Published

In the past few weeks, three new Stargate books have become available, at least in the US and UK. I have all three and would very much recommend them:

Stargate SG-1: The Ultimate Visual Guide. Written by Kathleen Ritter, who runs the rdanderson.com web site, this large, hard-back book is full of hundreds of color photos from SG-1, and is a mini-encyclopedia of the characters, races, technology, and plot arcs of the show. While most of the write-ups are short, they are relevant, accurate, and interesting. The book comes with a CD but I haven’t opened it yet!

Stargate SG-1: The Illustrated Companion Season 9. The guide books are now being written by Sharon Gosling, who publishes the Stargate novels, rather than journalist Thomasina Gibson, who wrote previous years’ books, in which two seasons were combined for each book. The new issue is lively and fun, with plenty of quotes from writers, directors, and actors. The foreword is by Michael Shanks! While the black and white reproductions are not great, there is a several-page color insert with excellent stills and production photos. My only complaint is Gosling’s overuse of exclamation points (!) which I find distracting as I read.

Stargate Atlantis: The Official Companion Season 2. Again written by Sharon Gosling, this is similar to the SG-1 guide and also a lot of fun, with many behind-the-scenes tidbits.

Bogus SG autographs successfully pulled from eBay

It was recently brought to our attention that there were a number of ‘questionable’ Stargate autographs being offered for sale on eBay. Upon further investigation it was determined that the items in question were indeed fake signatures.

Legends Memorabilia has been appointed agents on behalf of Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping and Christopher Judge with respect to monitoring the Internet for fake autographs. Accordingly, we have established a reporting process with eBay whereby any definitively bogus autographs will be removed from their site. It is through this process that the recently reported fake autographs were removed.

We shall continue to monitor the Internet for such fake signatures as the Stargate actors wish to ensure that fans do not get duped into buying autographs that are not authentic. We wish to express our thanks to all those persons who brought these ‘signatures’ to our attention and encourage all fans to alert us to any Stargate autographed photos that you feel may be ‘suspect’.

At the same time, we caution fans to be extremely careful when purchasing Stargate autographs online as there are many fakes in circulation. Should you wish to purchase a signed Stargate photo, we encourage you to visit www.stargate-autographs.com, which is the exclusive cast-authorized site for the signatures of the actors. For those of you that may not be familiar with this site, it is the venue where the Stargate actors sell their autographs to help raise funds for each of their chosen charities.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for the names of authorized dealers/vendors who participate in the Stargate-Autographs.com project.

With thanks and regards,
Paul Brown

New Legends Prop Auction Underway

In honor of SG-1’s upcoming 200th episode, Legends Memorabilia is once again auctioning original Stargate props, costumes, and collectibles. Each item comes with a certificate of authenticity describing its history and usage on the show.

Included in the auction are costumes worn by all of the main cast of SG-1. About 30 items are currently for sale, including “DANIEL JACKSON Signed Screenworn BDU Pants,” already fetching a healthy price. The bid listings are private to protect bidders from fraud attempts. The auction runs through August 27th. New items will be added daily.

Visit the auction at Legends’ E-bay Store.

Season Nine Box Set Due Oct. 3 in US

The Region 1 box set for Season 9 of SG-1 is due to be released on October 3, as reported here at TVShowsOnDVD.com. As we noted previously, Fox will be the distributor rather than MGM or Sony. Word is that MGM had the right to choose someone besides Sony to do their distribution, and that’s what they did.

The slim-line box set will have all 20 episodes of Season 9, commentaries for all episodes, and these extra features:

  • It Takes A Crew To Raise A Village Featurette
  • SG-1 Directors Series: “Avalon” featuring Andy Mikita
  • Inside the Stargate Props Department featurette
  • SG-1 Directors Series: “The Powers That Be” featuring William Waring
  • SG-1 Directors Series: “Prototype” featuring Peter Deluise
  • Inside The Stargate SG-1 Special Effects Department featurette
  • SG-1 Directors Series: “Ethon” featuring Ken Girotti
  • Stargate SG-1: An Introduction to Ben Browder
  • Profile On: Brad Wright
  • SG-1 Directors Series: “Crusade” featuring Robert Cooper
  • Photo and Production Design Galleries on each disc

The site notes plans may change, but this is the heads-up he received.

Stargate Worlds RPG News

Here is an excerpt from an interesting recent interview by War Cry with the creators of the new Stargate Worlds On-Line Role Playing Game:

The most amazing thing that was revealed to me during the interview was that the executive producers of the television series have stated categorically that any story—any environments and any experiences created for Stargate Worlds—will be treated as canon in the show. When, as it’s been promised, we see the Asgard homeworld in-game, anything we see there will then be relied upon and expanded upon in the television series. The greatest rallying cry from the developers and producers in the design of this game has been the decision to merge the storylines and backstories of both the game and tv series into one continuity, and then to allow each to provide context and background for the other to build off of.

Brad Wright has mentioned the money-making potential of the new game, and it’s clear the producers are staying involved with its creation. To read the entire interview, visit this link at WarCry.com.

Also, the Stargate Worlds website has released new concept art and announced it won the award for “Most Anticipated MMO” game at the recent E3 convention. Visit StargateWorlds.com.
