Stargate on P3R-233

Summary

P3R-233 was the site of the Quantum Mirror that took Dr. Daniel Jackson to an alternate reality. The Stargate was in an interior room below ground. Heavy equipment of indeterminate function filled the room and labeled in a language that was not recognized by Dr. Jackson; he could only identify it as "definitely alien." (1.20 "There But For The Grace Of God")

The facility included an artifact room filled with items from different cultures, all tagged and labeled. One of these artifacts was an Ancient's long range communication device. (1.20 "There But For The Grace Of God", 8.15 "Citizen Joe")

Geopolitical Structure and History

The Stargate was housed in an underground facility. As SG-1 theorized, the planet's inhabitants used the Stargate much like the SGC did. They explored various other worlds and brought back alien technology for use and/or study. Several artifacts were found in a laboratory, tagged for identification purposes (1.20 "There But For The Grace of God").

The planet was destroyed by the Goa'uld and left contaminated by radiation. As a warning an ominous totem was left behind: the symbol of Korosh-ni so that any Goa'uld or Jaffa who may pass through the Gate. Loosely translated from Goa'uld it meant, "Turn back."

SG-1 visited the planet but found the area near the Stargate abandoned. They did limited exploration of the underground facility, including discovering the lab of alien artifacts. While Carter and Daniel were studying the devices, Teal'c translated the ominous Korosh-ni totem and explained its meaning. Discovering the surface was contaminated, Col. O'Neill ordered his team to leave.

Daniel paused for a moment to pack some of the artifacts, inadvertently triggering one of the devices, a quantum mirror. Noticing the mirror's activation, he touched it and was transported to an alternate reality version of P3R-233. SG-1 noticed he was missing, and requested search parties to help them look for the missing Dr. Jackson.

In the alternate reality visited by Dr. Jackson, the planet had been visited by people from Earth, but they did not spot the quantum mirror. The SGA (the alternate reality version of the SGC), was drawn to visit the planet because of a transmission they received from that quadrant of space. All they found was the civilization had been destroyed by the Goa'uld. They were unable to translate the message, except for a series of numbers at the end. Daniel Jackson, however, was able to translate the rest, because it was in Ancient Egyptian, similar in dialect to Abydonian. The message was a warning by the inhabitants of 233, stating: "Beware the destroyers. They come from 3, 32, 16, 8, 10 and 12." They deduced the numbers were how 233 distinguished Stargate gylphs and determined the address based on where 233's point of origin was on its DHD. Daniel luckily had recorded the planet's Stargate and DHD with his camcorder while in his own reality.

Daniel was sent back to the alternate version of P3R-233 just before the SGA self destructed during a Goa'uld attack. Before fleeing through the Stargate to 233, Daniel was struck by a staff weapon blast by the alternate Teal'c. He stumbled onto the planet and forced himself to find the lab again. Once there, he touched the mirror, apparently still on, and arrived back in his own reality's version of P3R-233. He collapsed to the floor with an anguished cry.

SG-1, still searching for Daniel, heard the cry and found him lying on the floor, wounded and warning of an imminent attack. They returned him to the SGC. Later, a team retrieved the Quantum Mirror and other alien artifacts from the lab, including a small stone later revealed to be an Ancient Communication Device (8.15 "Citizen Joe"). Daniel catalogued the items at the SGC.

When alternate versions of Dr. Samantha Carter and Major Charles Kawalsky arrived in this reality, they revealed that a Quantum Mirror was found on their reality's version of P3R-233 and moved for study to their Stargate Agency. (3.06 "Point Of View")
