EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies in faster than light speed just past the outer edge of a galaxy.]

INT—YOUNG'S QUARTERS

[Young starts to shave, then decides against it and puts down his electric razor.]

INT—YOUNG'S OFFICE

[Young sits on a chair, his feet up on the table, lost in thought. He appears to have shaved.]

TJ

(over radio)

Colonel Young? Colonel Young.

[He breaks out of his reverie and grabs the radio.]

YOUNG

(into radio)

Yeah.

TJ

(over radio)

We're all here, sir.

YOUNG
I'm on my way.

INT—DESTINY GATE ROOM

[Young comes down the corridor and enters the Gate Room. Everyone in the expedition, aside from the catatonic Franklin, and Rush, are gathered there. TJ's pregnancy is noticeable, and her makeshift maternity wear consists of larger fatigue pants and a man's button-down shirt.]

YOUNG
So Dr. Rush has just confirmed that our current FTL jump will take us between galaxies. Which means it could take some time before we are able to make another 'gate connection to replenish our supplies. Strict food and water rationing will be reinstated as of now. It also means that any hope of rescuing Chloe Armstrong, Eli Wallace, or Lieutenant Matthew Scott is…

[He trails off, unable to say more. Everyone stands still, in silence.]

RUSH

(over radio)

Colonel Young, would you please join me in the control interface room?

YOUNG

(into radio)
I'll be right there.
(to everyone)

That is all.

[He leaves. Everyone remains standing there, dealing with their grief.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Young joins Rush.]

RUSH
I've figured out why the ship's been trying to conserve power. We're going to fall short.

YOUNG
Short of what?

RUSH
Our destination. The other galaxy. No matter how I do the sums, and to what degree I try and conserve power, Destiny won't make it across the void.

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies faster than light.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Wray, Rush, Brody, and Volker are in the room.]

WRAY
But, we just passed through a star. We should be recharged.

RUSH
Yes, we did. But like everything else on this ship, Destiny's FTL drive and power reserves are nowhere near a hundred percent.

BRODY
Database says the ship barely made the last three or four intergalactic jumps.

RUSH
Recent battle damage couldn't have helped.

WRAY
But if the ship realizes that it can't make it, why is it trying?

RUSH

(sighing)

It's programmed to follow a predetermined path. Since we haven't managed to take control of the ship, our presence is secondary to that. Destiny will eventually drift the rest of the way, but our bones will be dust by then.

[Young arrives.]

YOUNG
So, what do we do?

RUSH
Well, I'm open to suggestions.

VOLKER
How much will we fall short?

RUSH
Fifty thousand light years, give or take.

BRODY
Just a few percent of the total?

RUSH
Yeah.

BRODY
So, what if we can increase the FTL drive's efficiency? Work better with the same amount of power?

RUSH

(interested)

Yeah, five percent oughta do it, actually.

[Rush starts flipping through his notebooks, thinking about the new calculations.]

VOLKER
We don't know how the engines work…at all! We could just make things worse.

RUSH
Mr. Brody's right.

VOLKER

(incredulous)

So am I the only one here who thinks we shouldn't be screwing around with Ancient drive technology unless we have a clue about what we're doing?!

RUSH
Then we'll bring aboard someone else that does. I can think of two or three people off the top of my head.

YOUNG
Who's the best?

RUSH

(without hesitation)

Amanda Perry.

[Young looks blank and tuns to Wray.]

WRAY

(nodding)

Uh, she was part of the team helping to design the next generation of hyperdrives.

RUSH
There's really no one better qualified.

YOUNG
Well, let's make that happen. Let's make arrangements to get her on board.

[Young starts to leave. Brody and Volker exchange looks.]

RUSH

(hesitantly)

Colonel, uh, for all her abilities, there are certain…disabilities of which you should be made aware.

INT—CONFERENCE ROOM

[Several female crew members stand at ease, being briefed by Rush and Young.]

O'HARA
For how long?

RUSH
Potentially several weeks. Of course, there'll be someone there to assist with the, uh, day-to-day things? She requires a respirator in order to breathe. Obviously, there's going to be some kind of adjustment.

JAMES
Will I be able to see my family?

YOUNG

(nodding)

They've got clearance.

JAMES
Then I'll do it, sir.

EXT—PENTAGON, ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA, DAY

INT—HOMEWORLD SECURITY ANCIENT STONE LAB

[Perry sits in her wheelchair. Major Peterson and a caretaker, Mary, stand waiting nearby. The stone is active. James is now in Perry's body. She gasps, but cannot in-take air; her eyes widen as she looks around, frightened. Peterson bends down towards her.]

PETERSON
Lieutenant? You all right?

INT—DESTINY COMMUNICATIONS ROOM

[Young and Rush are on either side of James's body, now controlled by Perry. Rush leans close as Perry blinks at her new surroundings.]

RUSH
Mandy…

PERRY/JAMES

(smiling)

Nick.

RUSH

(smiling back)

Yeah.

[Perry gasps and stares down at James's hand, which she can control at her whim.]

PERRY/JAMES

(awed)

God, I'm really here, aren't I?

RUSH
You sure are. It takes a moment to get used to the transfer.

PERRY/JAMES

(with wry chuckle)

You're telling me.

[Perry glances down at a small mirror and sees James's reflection. James suddenly gasps in shock and pushes the stone off the console, leaping to her feet. She gasps for air.]

JAMES
I'm sorry, sir. I couldn't do it.

[She rushes off.]

YOUNG
Lieutenant!

RUSH
Just leave her. Leave her.

[Rush is disappointed.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies faster than light.]

INT—DESTINY COMMUNICATIONS ROOM

[Wray has joined Young and Rush.]

YOUNG
So Lieutenant James had trouble getting used to the ventilator.

WRAY
I'll be fine.

[Rush turns on the communicator. Wray reaches for a stone.]

WRAY

(stonily, to Young)

Fix the ship.

[Wray places her stone on the communicator.]

INT—HOMEWORLD SECURITY STONE LAB

[Peterson and Mary stand over Perry's immobile body. Wray looks around in panic. A respirator is attached to her throat where a tracheotomy has happened. There is a small tube near her mouth that controls her quadriplegic wheelchair.]

PETERSON
Ms. Wray?

WRAY/PERRY

(nervously)

Yes.

PETERSON
Good. Take all the time you need to adjust. This is Mary. She'll be your helper while you're here.

MARY

(gently)

Hello.

PETERSON
She'll also brief you on how to cope with your host's disabilities. Afterwards, Dr. Strom was hoping to see you…

WRAY/PERRY
No. I'm going home.

[Peterson turns to Mary and nods. She smiles at Wray.]

INT—DESTINY GALLEY

[TJ sits across from James in the mostly empty galley.]

TJ
Hey…

JAMES

(guiltily)

I couldn't do it.

TJ
Yeah, I know. I heard. It's okay.

JAMES
No, it isn't. I let him down.

TJ
The Colonel? Hey, listen, he's the last person that…

[TJ breaks off, her mouth agape as she sees Rush happily chatting with a smiling Perry in Wray's body. Perry cannot stop moving and touching her hands. James sees what she's looking at and gulps. She stands and tries to rush out of the room, but Perry stops her.]

PERRY/WRAY
I recognize you.

JAMES

(panicked)

Excuse me.

[She quickly leaves. Rush guides Perry further into the room.]

RUSH

(clearing his throat)

As I was saying this-this is the mess hall. One of the places you probably want to try and avoid, really.

[Perry spots some fruit TJ is about to eat.]

PERRY/WRAY
What are those?

RUSH
They're a kind of fruit we, uh, collected from a planet we visited recently.

PERRY/WRAY

(smiling)

May I…try one?

[Rush shrugs in acquiescence. He nods to Becker and beckons. Becker fills a bowl and brings them to Perry.]

RUSH
I'll warn you. Most people find these rather bitter.

[Perry picks up one of the fruits and puts it in her mouth, savoring the morsel.]

BECKER

(surprised)

Most people spit them right back out.

PERRY/WRAY
This is the first food I've been able to feed myself since I was nine.

[Rush smiles as he watches her enjoyment.]

YOUNG

(over radio)

TJ, this is Young. Have you seen Rush? He turned his damn radio off.

PERRY/WRAY
I think I've gotten you in trouble.

[Rush scoffs and waves his hand dismissively as he turns on the radio at his belt and they both leave. TJ smiles and grabs her radio.]

TJ
They're on their way now, sir.

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR

[James finally slows her pace, smiling in relief. As she turns a corner, she stops short, a blank expression on her face.]

INT—WRAY/SHARON HOME

[Sharon watches as more medical staff bring equipment into the home. Mary arranges a bed in the dining room as well as other equipment. Sharon sighs and turns to Wray.]

SHARON
I took my vacation time.

WRAY/PERRY
All of it?

SHARON
Yeah. We have a lot of lost time to make up for.

WRAY/PERRY
You got rid of the ugly chair.

SHARON

(chuckling)

Yeah.

[Wray grins back. Sharon approaches, not sure what to do bout the chair and equipment. She tentatively kisses Wray on the forehead. Wray rolls her eyes.]

WRAY/PERRY

(grinning)

You can do better than that.

[Sharon chuckles. She gently shifts the mouthpiece away and kisses Wray on the lips.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Rush and Perry have joined Young, Brody, and Volker. Perry studies a console.]

PERRY/WRAY
Five or six percent would do it.

BRODY
That's the thought.

RUSH
The problem is, how to do that without any access to the ship's core systems.

VOLKER
Or for that matter, any knowledge of how they work in the first place? I'm just sayin…

YOUNG
Show her everything you've got.

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies through hyperspace between galaxies, heading towards a spiral one in the distance. Suddenly one of its engine exhausts explodes, throwing the ship back into normal space and shaking it violently.]

INT—DESTINY

[Throughout the ship, people are knocked off their feet and thrown across the floor, including TJ. Several are thrown against bulkheads with some force. Rush moves to protect Perry as they fall, and Wray lands on top of him.]

WRAY

(bewildered)

Nicholas?!

[Wray looks around, blinking, her lip bloody.]

INT—WRAY/SHARON HOME

[Wray, now returned to Perry's body, blinks, frightened as Sharon worriedly watches.]

WRAY/PERRY
It's me again. We came out of FTL. Something's happened to the ship!

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny floats dead in space.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[A man and a woman work to put the infirmary back into order as TJ grabs some supplies and tries to start triage on the numerous personnel who have arrived.]

TJ
Okay, listen up. I promise to get to everyone. Right now, I need anyone who has a potential head injury or internal trauma to move to the front of the line. Don't be shy!

[As she speaks, she makes an initial assessment of the people standing there, gesturing at a couple of them to go to the beds, including James, who nurses her head.]

GREER

(calling as he arrives)

TJ!

[She turns to him. He and Park arrive.]

GREER
Put us to work.

TJ

(checking out an injured man)

Um, anyone who's…shaky. Don't take any chances. The quiet ones could be in the worst shape.

GREER
What about you?

TJ
I'm fine. Go.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Young arrives. Klaxons sound and yellow lights blare. Brody, Volker, Rush, and Perry, in Wray's body, work. Brody nurses his elbow.]

YOUNG
Are we under attack or not?

[Rush turns off the alarm.]

RUSH
No. It was a malfunction.

VOLKER
He's right. There's no sign of any hostile ships in range—not that I can tell, anyway.

YOUNG
What the hell just happened, then?

RUSH
I think there was an explosion in the FTL drive. We're adrift.

YOUNG
Why?

BRODY
An overload?

RUSH

(shaking his head)

It could be anything.

PERRY/WRAY
Can we access the engineering spaces?

BRODY
Not without a spacesuit. Most of the ship's un-pressurized.

RUSH
Best to check the damage from outside the ship.

VOLKER
I can fly a kino pretty well.

YOUNG

Get to it.
(to Rush and Perry)

You two monitor from here. I'll use the stones to report this.

[He and Volker leave. Perry shakes her head, looking dizzy and overwhelmed. Rush notices and reaches out to her.]

RUSH

(worried)

Mandy, are you sure you're all right?

PERRY/WRAY
For a second there, I was back on Earth in a strange house, back in my own body again.

RUSH
The link is temporarily severed when we go in and out of FTL. I'm sorry, we-we weren't expecting that to happen.

PERRY/WRAY
I'm fine.

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ examines James, who sits on an infirmary bed.]

TJ
What do you remember?

JAMES
I was walking, then I was somewhere else, and I don't know how I got there. Then the explosion happened.

TJ
So the lapse happened before?

[James nods.]

TJ
Well, sometimes concussions can cause short-term memory loss and confusion. We'll just keep you here tonight. Make sure it's nothing more serious.

[Park jogs in.]

PARK
TJ! He was on the floor. I couldn't tell if he was hurt or not.

[She gestures to where two military personnel assist Franklin into the room.]

TJ
Okay, put him over here, guys.

[They set him on a bed, where he remains sitting up. He straightens a bit, looking around at his new surroundings, then focusing on James in the bed next to him.]

JAMES
Franklin?!

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Perry and Rush look at a monitor showing pictures of the outside of the ship taken by the kino.]

VOLKER

(over radio)

This is Volker. Are you getting pictures?

RUSH
Yeah, we see it.

INT—WRAY/SHARON HOME

[Sharon and Mary speak while sorting pillows. Wray's back is to them in the other room, but she is able to hear every word.]

SHARON
So is there anything I need to worry about?

MARY
I've been with Amanda a long time. We'll need to monitor her blood pressure, and there's a few other things I need to show you that just come with the territory, and she'll be fine.

SHARON

(nervous)

I'm sorry, it-it's just I'm new to all this.

MARY

(reassuring)

You'll be fine, too.

INT—GATE ROOM

[The Stargate begins to dial.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[The console gives an insistent beeping.]

PERRY/WRAY
What's happening?

RUSH
Incoming wormhole.

[He grabs his radio.]

INT—INFIRMARY

RUSH

(over radio)

This is Rush. We have an incoming wormhole. Sgt. Greer? Please meet me in the Gate Room with a defense team.

[Greer and other military jog off. Park and TJ exchange worried looks.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer and his team, now armed with rifles and tac weapons, run through the corridor.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[Rush and Perry are already there.]

GREER
I need everybody out of here!

RUSH
That won't be necessary, Sergeant.

[They ready their rifles. Scott, Chloe, and Eli come through. Greer stands and lowers his weapon.]

ELI

(raising his hands)

Whoa! Whoa! Don't shoot!

GREER
Stand down.

RUSH
Told 'ya.

[Greer and Scott embrace.]

GREER
Oh, my brother!

[Scott laughs in relief.]

SCOTT
Greer!

GREER
I didn't expect to see you again either, huh?

CHLOE
What do you mean, you weren't expecting to see us? Didn't you guys figure out a way for us to dial in?

[Eli approaches Rush and hands him Rush's broken glasses. Rush takes them, stunned. Eli grins at Perry/Wray.]

EXT—WRAY/SHARON HOME, DAY

INT—WRAY/SHARON HOME

[Mary feeds Wray a spoonful of food at a time as Sharon chatters away.]

SHARON
I joined a book club.

WRAY/PERRY
Hmm?

SHARON
Yeah, it's supposed to be all women, but there are a few enlightened young men who stop by and claim to have an interest in 19th century chick lit.

[Wray chuckles, then begins to choke on her food, coughing.]

MARY
Can we concentrate on eating right now?

SHARON

(contrite)

Sorry.

WRAY/PERRY

(hoarsely)

Sorry.

SHARON
You know what? Um…Why don't I do that? Yeah, we'll be fine.

[Mary looks nervously at Wray, but moves from her seat and hands Sharon the bowl.]

MARY
One at a time.

SHARON
Got it.

[She leaves them alone. Sharon feeds Wray a spoonful.]

WRAY/PERRY
This isn't, uh, freaking you out, is it?

SHARON

(shaking her head)

You're here. That's all that matters.

[They grin at each other. Then Sharon spoons another mouthful.]

SHARON
Here.

INT—INFIRMARY

[The other beds have been cleared of wounded. TJ and Park check Scott, Chloe, and Eli.]

ELI

Well, we were pretty much resigned to the fact that we were stuck out there.
(sotto voce)

Talk about feeling like the third wheel.

[Scott and Chloe exchange smirks.]

ELI

(continuing)

And then on the second night, the kino remote just…lit up. I guess I just…thought you guys must've figured something out. We dialed back, and here we are.

SCOTT
Yeah, I didn't think it was possible to miss this bucket.

[Young arrives, smiling.]

YOUNG

(joking)

Do you people realize you just scared the crap out of us?

SCOTT
Sorry, sir.

YOUNG

You're forgiven.
(to TJ)

So, are they going to live?

TJ
Looks like it. That planet couldn't have been all that bad.

YOUNG
That's good,. Because if we don't get the FTL drive fixed, that's where we'll all be going.

ELI

(crestfallen)

Really?

YOUNG

Really, Eli. I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to put you right back to work.
(smiling at Scott)

Welcome back.

INT—SPACE

[Destiny floats in space, still very close to the galaxy it just left, and far away from the spiral galaxy on its trajectory.]

INT—FRANKLIN'S ROOM

[James spoon-feeds Franklin.]

TJ
How's he doing?

JAMES
Same, but something changed since we got stuck. Doesn't he look different to you?

TJ
Uh, maybe…

JAMES

(frustrated)

It's like he's in there and he knows exactly what's going on, but his brain and his body just aren't connected anymore. I don't know. I talked to Rush, and he says I'm probably just imagining it. Maybe I am. I mean, I haven't slept in…I don't even know.

[She raises a hand to her head.]

TJ

(concerned)

Why?

JAMES
I keep having the same bad dream. I am stuck in a dark room, but I'm not me, and I can't get out.

TJ
Are you claustrophobic?

JAMES
Little bit.

TJ
Maybe it's some weird phantom memory from your switch with Dr. Perry.

INT—ELI'S QUARTERS

[Eli sits on the floor, reading a book and listening to his iPod. There is a knock on his door frame. He looks up to see who he views as Wray awkwardly smiling at him and moving with unusual body language for her. He blinks as he realizes he's looking Perry.]

PERRY/WRAY
Hey, math boy. Got those calculations I was asking about?

[Eli sighs and pulls out a folded paper.]

ELI
Done. And…please don't call me that.

[Perry smiles an apology.]

PERRY/WRAY
I know what that's like. Nick called me "Little Miss Brilliant" a couple of times, and it stuck.

ELI

(blankly)

Nick?

PERRY/WRAY
Nicholas.

ELI

(realizing)

Rush?!

PERRY/WRAY
We were colleagues back at SGC a couple years before Icarus. He used to like to bounce ideas off me when he was working on that Ancient proof that uh…you ended up solving. Congratulations, by the way.

ELI

(sarcastically waving a finger)

Whoo hoo.

[She looks at him blankly.]

ELI

(gesturing at surroundings, rueful)

Look where it got me.

PERRY/WRAY
I would do anything to be here.

[Eli stares at her.]

PERRY/WRAY
Anyway, uh, after…Nick's wife passed away, we used to have these long talks about his work and my work. The Ancients. Ascension. It was like he didn't even see the chair. I tried calling him "Mister Brilliant" a few times, but I don't think he ever got the hint.

ELI

(shocked)

You had a thing? For him?

PERRY/WRAY

(insulted)

What's wrong with that?

ELI

(chuckling)

I just find it kind of surprising.

PERRY/WRAY
Why, because a disabled person can't have feelings for someone?!

ELI

(flustered)

I meant because you were—you were talking about…him?

PERRY/WRAY

(waving and laughing dismissively)

Yeah…thanks for this.

[She leaves, he stands.]

ELI

Sure, um…
(to himself, still incredulous)

Rush?

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny floats dead in space.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Young arrives. Rush, Perry, Eli, and Brody are already there.]

YOUNG
You've got something.

RUSH
Well, Dr. Perry's concluded that the explosion may be to our advantage.

YOUNG
Oh?

PERRY/WRAY
There was an overload. One that probably shouldn't have happened because the system is unbelievably robust with more safeguards I can count. But it happened, and as with most overloads, it happened in the weakest link.

ELI
The…FTL drive is made up of sixteen separate modules. The one that blew up was the weakest link because it was the least efficient.

YOUNG
So the ship can fly on the other drives?

RUSH
Even better than that.

PERRY/WRAY
Without the worn out drive bringing down overall efficiency, Destiny should be able to make it across the void.

YOUNG
That's great work.

PERRY/WRAY

(smiling)

Thank you. I wouldn't pat anyone on the back just yet. We still need to isolate and bypass the damage.

RUSH
With no access to the core systems, it has to be done manually.

ELI
Or…

YOUNG
Or what?

ELI
The robot we found. We think it might be able to do some, or maybe…all of the repairs.

PERRY/WRAY

(indicating console)

I've already programmed rudimentary instructions to begin the repairs.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Scott, this is Young. Eli and Dr. Perry have a shuttle mission to brief you on.

SCOTT

(over radio)

Copy that, sir. I'm on my way.

[Eli and Perry leave.]

YOUNG

(to Rush)

What are the odds?

RUSH
That this is going to work? Fair to middling. Time's an issue. There is another option.

YOUNG
Right, the chair.

RUSH
Well, if we can gain access to the core systems, we can bypass that damaged section in a single command.

YOUNG
Tell you what. If it comes right down to it, I'll sit in the thing myself.

[Young leaves.]

EXT—SPACE

INT—SHUTTLE

[Scott wears a spacesuit as he flies the shuttle.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Getting into position now.

EXT—SPACE

[The shuttle backs into the rear drive area of Destiny.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Opening rear hatch.

[The rear hatch opens.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

SCOTT

(over radio)

Okay, we're good.

PERRY/WRAY
Here we go.

[She punches some controls.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[The robot is released, and it crawls down the ramp to the damaged drive.]

INT—YOUNG'S OFFICE

[Young sits, his head in one hand doing paperwork. There is a knock.]

YOUNG
Come in.

[He looks up to see it is TJ.]

YOUNG
Oh, hi.

[He stands and comes around the desk.]

TJ
Hi. Uh, I'd like permission to join the team going through the Stargate to the planet.

YOUNG
Scott's going.

TJ
He's a little busy flying the shuttle right now.

YOUNG
He's already on his way back.

TJ

(moving closer, challenging)

So is this how it's going to be? Maybe I'd like to see the planet where I might have to raise our child?

YOUNG
You mean, if the ship isn't fixed by then?

TJ

(shrugging, nodding)

Yeah, maternal instincts, I guess.

[She sets her jaw and looks at him challengingly.]

YOUNG
Okay. Permission granted.

TJ
Thanks.

[TJ turns and leaves.]

YOUNG
TJ…

TJ

(not breaking stride)

I'll be careful.

INT—GATE ROOM

[The Stargate dials as a large group, including Greer, Eli, and TJ, gear up to leave.]

YOUNG
Lt. Scott found fresh water due east of the Stargate. That'll be your first stop.

[TJ nods.]

GREER

(to TJ)

We should check out as much land as possible in case we end up having to live there.

YOUNG

(to Eli)

Send it.

[Eli directs the kino through the Stargate.]

ELI
You know, we just came from there. This is a waste of time.

YOUNG
It's standard procedure, Eli.

ELI
If you ask me, sometimes you military people are a little too…

[Eli looks at the kino remote monitor, where it broadcasts footage of two alien ships floating near the Stargate in the night. They fire at the kino.]

ELI
Holy crap! Did you see that?

[The kino stops broadcasting after a strike hits its mark.]

YOUNG
I saw. Shut it down.

[A woman shuts the Stargate down.]

GREER
Looks like they found your camp.

TJ
Can they get through the Stargate?

YOUNG
Not without a remote.

ELI
Lucky we weren't still there, or else they'd have one!

YOUNG
Either way, we're cut off. We have to fix the ship.

THREE WEEKS LATER

EXT—DESTINY OBSERVATION DECK

[Young stares off into space.]

INT—DESTINY GALLEY

[Volker spoons up some yellow watery pudding, looking at his meal with distaste.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Perry and Rush work together, smiling as they make a bit of progress.]

INT—WRAY/SHARON HOME

[Mary works gently to readjust Wray on the bed amongst pillows as Sharon watches.]

INT—DESTINY CORRIDORS

[Perry joins others on a jog around the ship, led by Scott.]

INT—DESTINY STORAGE ROOM

[Brody works at coiling copper pipe and solders others together. Later he crushes an orange material into powder using a mortar and pestle.]

INT—FRANKLIN'S QUARTERS

[James spoon feeds Franklin.]

INT—CONFERENCE ROOM

[Becker has become the ship barber. Several wait as he shaves Greer's head to a closely cropped cut.]

INT—DESTINY STORAGE ROOM

[Brody swirls some liquid in a beaker, checking its quality. He looks at his pieced-together moonshine still and drinks the liquid.]

INT—SCOTT'S QUARTERS

[Scott and Chloe lie together in bed.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ looks around the infirmary, looking weary.]

INT—"STILL" ROOM

[James and Chloe down shots that Brody has poured into beakers. They both wince at the taste.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Eli watches the robot make repairs on the ship via a kino monitor.]

EXT—WRAY/SHARON HOME, DAY

INT—WRAY/SHARON HOME

[Sharon puts her purse on her shoulder as she heads to the door, then turns back to Wray.]

SHARON
You know, I could just go to the corner store.

WRAY/PERRY
We need a decent grocery shopping. We're almost out of everything.

SHARON

(sighing)
Okay. I shouldn't be long.
(to Mary)

I'll be right back.

[She leaves as Mary comes to Wray with a glass of water and a straw.]

MARY
I could've gone.

WRAY
I want her to get out of the house, even if it's just for an hour.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[The kino footage of the repairs shows the robot searing the last bit of damaged engine from the vessel. One of its feet kicks the damaged part away from Destiny. Rush and Perry watch, excited.]

RUSH
Well, that's it! You've done it. That isolates the drive.

PERRY/WRAY
Well, that was the easy part.

RUSH
We'll start on the bypass in the morning, eh?

PERRY/WRAY
You guys don't do much for fun around here, do you?

RUSH
Well, there is Mr. Brody's still.

PERRY/WRAY
You have a…still?

RUSH
Come and see.

INT—"STILL" ROOM

[Rush and Perry enter the room. Chloe and James are sitting at a table at the far end of the crowded room, talking.]

JAMES
So, I'm in a room, but I'm not me.

CHLOE
What do you see?

JAMES
Nothing. Blackness. But I know that I am not alone.

CHLOE
What if it isn't a dream?

[At the "bar" in the center of the room, Rush and Perry are served their drinks.]

RUSH
Thank you, Mr. Brody.

BRODY
Cheers.

PERRY/WRAY
Thanks.

RUSH
Now, be careful. This stuff has only one redeeming quality.

[She grins as they both drink their shots. Perry chokes and splutters as Rush braces himself.]

PERRY/WRAY
Wow. We make do with what we have, right?

RUSH
Yup.

PERRY/WRAY
Speaking of? How are you managing without your coffee?

RUSH

(chuckling)

Well, I must admit, that's been one of the most difficult things about being stuck up here.

PERRY/WRAY
Oh, well, the hardships.

RUSH
I think "insanity" is the proper word. There and back again. I've even had dreams about the stuff.

PERRY/WRAY
Well, for years after my accident, I had dreams that I could walk.

RUSH

(nonplussed)

Yeah, no, I remember you telling me that.

PERRY/WRAY
And then I get to do this. And it's…it's all happening. God, it's like a dream come true.

RUSH

(quietly)

Yeah.

PERRY/WRAY

(nodding)

But we have to fix your ship.

RUSH
We do.

PERRY/WRAY
And then I'll have to wake up.

[She and Rush exchange wistful looks.]

INT—YOUNG'S QUARTERS

[Young opens the door to find Chloe and James waiting outside.]

JAMES
Sir?

YOUNG
Yeah?

JAMES

(nervously)

I think…I think I was the one who damaged the ship.

INT—CORRIDOR

[A slightly drunk Rush and Perry head down the corridor.]

PERRY/WRAY
I'm starting to notice that…redeeming quality you were talking about.

RUSH
You'll have to ask yourself if it was worth it in the morning.

[They both laugh.]

PERRY/WRAY
Can I ask you something?

RUSH
Sure.

PERRY/WRAY
After your…wife passed away, and we had those long talks, did you have any clue how I felt about you?

RUSH
I thought you felt sorry for me.

PERRY/WRAY

(with wry chuckle)

I guess I thought the same about you at first.

RUSH

(bewildered)

I thought you were absolutely brilliant. Remember I used to call you—

PERRY/WRAY
Yeah.

RUSH
Little Miss Brilliant!

PERRY/WRAY

(embarrassed)

Yeah, just forget about that.

RUSH
I could never be sorry about that.

[He touches her hand in a kind of casual "fist bump" and starts to leave.]

PERRY/RUSH
Good night.

[Rush starts to leave.]

PERRY/WRAY
Nick..?

RUSH
Yeah?

PERRY/WRAY
Would you like to come in?

[There is a long pause as Rush considers.]

RUSH
Yeah.

[She smiles.]

INT—PERRY'S GUEST QUARTERS

[Perry closes the door as Rush stares at the bed. She turns him towards her and they move closer. She strokes his biceps and they kiss, embracing. After a few seconds, Rush breaks it off.]

RUSH
Look, I'm sorry. Darling, I'm sorry. I-I-I can't do this.

PERRY/WRAY
Why?

RUSH
I just-I can't do this.

[Perry glances around, startled at the sudden change in mood. She catches Wray's reflection in the mirror.]

PERRY/WRAY
Nick. It's me.

RUSH

(rueful)

I think we both know it's a bit more complicated than that.

PERRY/WRAY
The word is "insane".

RUSH
Yeah.

PERRY/WRAY

(forlorn)

But this is also a once-in-a-lifetime chance for me.

RUSH
Mandy…you know, probably better than anyone, how I was when Gloria passed away. I recently experienced something that made me go through it all again. More than a dream. As real as this is to you now. And I can tell myself that it's been years all I like, but in my heart, it's just happened again.

[He sighs heavily, his eyes filling with tears. She brushes the tears away with her thumb.]

PERRY/WRAY

(sympathetic)

Well, at least this time. I can do this.

[She hugs him tightly, this time in comfort. He returns the hug, weeping. The door opens. TJ stands, startled at seeing their embrace.]

TJ
Oh, sorry, I…

RUSH

(curt)

What is it?

[Rush and Perry break apart.]

TJ
The Colonel needs you in the interface room right away. Both of you.

PERRY/WRAY
Is everything all right?

TJ
No. It's about to hit the fan again.

[TJ glares at Rush.]

RUSH
Come on, let's go.

[He leads her out. TJ sighs.]

INT—WRAY/SHARON HOME

[Wray uses her mouth piece to direct her wheelchair towards the door as it opens and Sharon enters, hastily setting down bags of groceries.]

WRAY/PERRY

(crying)

You were gone for hours.

SHARON

(flustered)

I know, I'm sorry. I locked my keys in the car.

WRAY/PERRY
I thought you had gotten into an accident. I imagined you being taken away by an ambulance!

SHARON

(hurrying over)

No. No, no, no, no. No. Oh, God, Camile, I'm sorry.

WRAY/PERRY
My imagination just went…

[She's too upset to speak more, starting to hyperventilate. Sharon leans closer, making sure to meet her eyes.]

SHARON
Hey, hey, hey! I know what it's like to wait for someone you love to come home. I'm here now.

[Wray starts to calm.]

WRAY/PERRY
I know. I know.

SHARON
Okay.

[Wray's eyes roll back so only her whites show, and she starts to convulse.]

SHARON

(panicked)

Wha…Mary? Mary? Mary!

[Mary arrives.]

SHARON
I don't know what's happening.

MARY
Okay, okay.

WRAY/PERRY

(groaning)

Uh…

MARY
I'm just going to elevate her legs above her heart to stabilize it.

[Wray groans.]

MARY

(to Wray)

You're doing fine. Just try to stay calm.

SHARON
We were just talking, and then…she…I don't know. What's going on?

MARY

(reassuring)

She's going to be okay.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Young, James, Chloe, Eli, Perry, Rush, Brody, and TJ are all present.]

YOUNG
Lieutenant James left the comm room without wiping her imprint off the stone. It got knocked off the table, nobody noticed. We think that, in that opportunity, an alien might have taken advantage, used the stones and sabotaged our FTL drive.

TJ
She told me she had blacked out around the time of the explosion. I-I thought it was post-concussion syndrome.

RUSH
Well, mystery solved. I don't see how it changes anything.

ELI

(incredulous)

What part don't you get?

CHLOE
They know we're out here!

RUSH
Yeah, they already did. Without a tracking device, there's no way of them knowing where we've dropped out of FTL.

PERRY/WRAY
Yeah, he's right. The void is unimaginably huge. They can't know our location.

YOUNG
Unless the alien who took over James's body managed to broadcast it.

RUSH
Like a subspace message, you mean.

ELI
Or the alien figured out our position before the explosion and took it back with them.

PERRY/WRAY
How would it know how—

ELI
They sabotaged the ship! How did they know how to do that?

RUSH
He's right.

YOUNG
That's it, then. They're coming.

INT—WRAY/SHARON HOME

[Wray has stabilized. Sharon sits by her side.]

SHARON
I'm so sorry.

WRAY/PERRY
Don't be silly. I brought this on myself.

[There is a knock at the door. Sharon answers. It is Peterson.]

PETERSON
Forgive the intrusion.

SHARON

(resigned)

Come on in.

PETERSON
Colonel Young just used the stones to report. There is a strong possibility that Dr. Perry may have to return to her body in the next several hours. We think it's best if she returns to an Air Force facility.

SHARON
We'll say our goodbyes.

PETERSON
I'll wait outside.

[Sharon and Wray look sadly at each other.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny floats in space, surrounded by the glow of the galaxy it just left.]

INT—YOUNG'S OFFICE

[Young finishes addressing a letter to TJ. Another long letter has already been placed in an envelope to "Matthew" (Scott)].

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Young enters and nods to Eli. Brody, Volker, Rush and Perry are nearby.]

YOUNG
Let's go.

INT—DESTINY

[Young's voice echoes throughout the ship intercom. Everyone listens as they prepare. Scott and Greer hand out loaded rifles. TJ sighs as she sits in the infirmary. Others are in the galley, listening silently.]

YOUNG

(over radio)

This is Young. While repairs to the ship are still days from being complete, despite our best efforts, we believe an attack will happen at any moment. Shields will not withstand a sustained bombardment. This time, we will not be able to jump to FTL. Neither can we escape through the Stargate. Lt. Scott will be in charge of our ship's defenses. Follow his orders as you would mine. If boarded, Sgt. Greer will coordinate the strike teams, but everyone will have to join in our defense.

[In Franklin's quarters, James is feeding Franklin. She glances up at hearing the announcement. Franklin turns and looks at her.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

YOUNG

(into radio)

We'll give them a good fight.

[He steps away from the intercom and moves over to Perry.]

YOUNG

(to Perry)

When the time comes, don't wait too long.

[She swallows and nods. Young gives a pointed look to Rush. Perry looks at Rush uncertainly.]

RUSH
It'll be okay.

[Rush squeezes her shoulder, then follows Young to the corridor outside.]

INT—CORRIDOR

YOUNG
I want you there to talk me through it.

[They both head down the corridor.]

INT—FRANKLIN'S QUARTERS

JAMES

(upset)

This is all my fault. I panicked.

[Franklin's hand trembles, but he reaches out and is able to firmly grasp James's wrist. Startled, she stares as he gives her a meaningful, direct look.]

FRANKLIN
The chair.

[James stares at Franklin in shock.]

EXT—SPACE

[Two alien ships drop into normal space near Destiny.]

INT—CHAIR ROOM

[Rush and Young have arrived.]

ELI

(over radio)

They're here, sir.

YOUNG

(to Rush)

Tell me what to do.

RUSH
We've managed to isolate the damaged module from the rest. You have to command the ship to enter FTL on the remaining drives.

YOUNG

(interrupting)

How the hell do I do that?

RUSH
Well, first you have to sit in the chair.

[Rush heads to the console. James runs in just as Young approaches the chair.]

JAMES
Wait! Dr. Franklin just spoke. Something about the chair.

YOUNG
What about it?

JAMES
That's it; that's all he said. But I think he knows what's going on, and I think he was trying to say that it should be him.

YOUNG

(dismissive)

You can't possibly know that.

JAMES
Well, no, sir, but I really think that—

[She stumbles as the ship is rocked by an alien weapon blast.]

YOUNG
We're under attack! I'm going to do this.

RUSH
No, wait a minute, she might be right.

YOUNG
I can't ask a man to sacrifice his life, Rush.

RUSH
Franklin's already been through the process. His brain will have had time to heal from the trauma—

YOUNG

(interrupting)

We don't have time for this!

RUSH
Which is exactly why it should be him, and not you.

[Young moves to sit anyway, and Rush grabs him by the arm and pulls him up before he can. Young and James are both surprised by his action.]

RUSH

(pleading)

At least give him the choice.

INT—CORRIDORS

[Destiny strike teams jog through the corridors.]

INT—FRANKLIN'S QUARTERS

[Rush, Young, and James have entered.]

RUSH
Dr. Franklin…

[Rush kneels by Franklin's side and gently takes his hand.]

RUSH
Dr. Franklin? This ship is under attack. If someone doesn't go back and sit in the chair and help the repairs, then the ship's going to be taken. We're all going to be taken.

[Another blast rocks the ship. Young leans over to be in Franklin's eye-line.]

YOUNG
Do you understand what we are asking you to do?

[Franklin nods faintly, his lip trembling. He squeezes Rush's hand and nods more firmly, keeping eye contact.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Scott has joined Volker, Brody, Eli, and Perry in the control room. He watches a console that shows smaller vessels being launched from the two main alien ships.]

SCOTT
All right, concentrate your fire on the smaller ships. They're going to try and board us.

[Another blast rocks the ship.]

EXT—SPACE

[The alien vessel strikes Destiny's shield near the observation deck.]

INT—CHAIR ROOM

[Young and Rush help settle Franklin in the chair as James watches. A spotlight powers up above the chair. Franklin closes his eyes.]

YOUNG
Go back to your team.

JAMES
Yes, sir.

[She leaves. The chair's restraints deploy around Franklin. A cold smoke drops down around the chair. Rush goes to look at the consoles.]

RUSH
The temperature's dropping fast.

YOUNG
Any idea why?

RUSH

(puzzled)

I don't know. This is something new.

[Franklin opens his eyes and looks directly at Young.]

FRANKLIN
Go.

[Young and Rush exchange looks, then leave. The door closes behind them. Franklin closes his eyes and looks at peace.]

INT—CORRIDORS

[Destiny strike teams are crouched waiting. James nudges a military man aside and takes his place, kneeling with weapon raised. She clicks the safety off her rifle.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[There is a beep at a console.]

ELI
Something's happening.

[Scott glances over as Eli moves to Perry's terminal.]

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE CHAIR ROOM

[Rush and Young watch through the door porthole as frost covers Franklin. Then frost covers the porthole, and they can see no more. Young starts to leave, Rush following. Young spots Riley at the first intersection.]

YOUNG
Sergeant, keep an eye on that door.

RILEY
Yes, sir.

[Riley takes position at the intersection.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Scott is monitoring the consoles as well.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Dammit! Greer! We're about to be boarded right on top of your position.

INT—CORRIDORS

GREER

(into radio)

Copy that.

[Greer's team readies themselves. Greer checks out a nearby window.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Rush and Young enter.]

SCOTT

(surprised)

Colonel! I thought you were…

PERRY/WRAY
FTL drive is powering up.

[The countdown clock turns on and quickly changes to its version of zero.]

EXT—SPACE

[The alien vessels continue to bombard Destiny as its boarding ships approach for landing. Destiny continues to fire several return volleys, then jumps into faster than light, leaving the other vessels behind.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Scott breathes a sigh or relief.]

INT—CORRIDORS

[The various strike teams stand down. Both Greer and James look relieved at their respective stations.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Brody, Volker, and Rush exchange relieved looks. Wray turns to Rush, bewildered.]

WRAY
Does this mean you fixed the ship?

RUSH
Camile?

PERRY/WRAY

(sighing)

No, it's me again.

[Rush swallows.]

ELI

(sympathetic)

Don't you hate that?

YOUNG
What's our status?

RUSH
The damaged section of the ship has been bypassed. The FTL drive has increased efficiency. It's a bit early to say, but it looks like we're going to make it across.

[He exchanges poignant looks with Young, nodding to him with a small smile. Young leaves. Rush turns to Eli, who takes the hint and leaves them. Rush holds Perry's back.]

RUSH

(triumphant)

We did it.

PERRY/WRAY

(wistful)

Yes, we did. And now it's time to go.

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies faster than light towards the spiral galaxy.]

INT—COMMUNICATIONS ROOM

[Rush and Perry reluctantly approach the stones.]

PERRY/WRAY
It's not a very nice thing to say, but I do hope you need my help again.

RUSH
Well, I'm not above arranging that, you know.

[They smile sadly at each other. She caresses his face, then gently kisses him. He drops his arms self-consciously. They sit. She reaches out with her right hand to touch the stone, then pauses, instead savoring the feeling of being able to move her hand. She turns it as a wave to Rush.]

RUSH
Bye, Mandy.

PERRY/WRAY
Bye, Nick.

[Her right hand still upright, she reaches with her left hand and turns off the communication pad, severing the connection. Wray blinks and stares at her hand held up, realizing she can move it. Rush looks away, acting as if he's writing in his pad.]

WRAY
Nicholas?

RUSH

(quietly)

Welcome back, Camile.

[She clasps her hands together, reveling in the ability to move on her own. Rush glances at her, lost in his own thoughts.]

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE CHAIR ROOM

[Young and James arrive. Riley is still on guard.]

YOUNG
Anything happen?

RILEY
You'd know better than I would, sir. I was watching a closed door.

YOUNG
Did it stay closed?

RILEY
Yes, sir.

[The porthole window is still frosted over. James presses the button to open the door. They enter the chair room. The chair is empty, coated in white frost. The light is still on above it. There is no sign of Franklin.]

FADE OUT
