EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies faster than light.]

INT—JAMES'S QUARTERS

[James and Scott are naked and having sex. Once they've both finished, Scott rolls over and gets out of bed, pulling his boxer briefs back on.]

JAMES
What are you doing?

SCOTT
I should go.

JAMES
What? Why?

SCOTT

(pulling his pants on)

I can't be doing this.

[James rolls her eyes and starts throwing her own clothes on as Scott pulls his shirt on.]

JAMES

(caustic)

Right. You say that now that you're done.

SCOTT
You knew what you were getting into.

JAMES
You know what? No. Screw that. I am not going to let you kick me aside like you did before.

SCOTT
Yeah, well, whatever.

[Scott heads to the door, but she scrambles to block his path.]

SCOTT
Move.

JAMES
Me or her. You can't have both.

SCOTT
I never said I wanted both. Now move.

JAMES

(insistent)

Me or her, Matt.

SCOTT
Get out of my way!

[They stare at each other in a face-off for several seconds, then Scott moves to grab and shove her out of the way. She blocks his grip and they tussle, Scott finally able to gain the upper hand and roll her to the floor. He heads to the door but she grabs a nearby lantern and slams it into the back of his head. He collapses to the floor, dead. James gasps in horror as blood pools from the head wound.]

OPENING CREDIT

INT—VOLKER'S QUARTERS

[Volker ties his shoes, working a smudge off the leather. He starts to leave, but can't open his door, despite hitting the control numerous times.]

VOLKER
Oh fer…

[He keys his radio.]

VOLKER

(into radio)
This is Dr. Volker. Anybody in the control interface room?
(after a pause)

How about anybody at all?

[He knocks on the door.]

VOLKER

(calling out)

Hello? Anybody?

[The door opens from outside. Riley stands there, looking puzzled.]

RILEY
You okay?

VOLKER
Yeah, the, uh, door control doesn't work.

[Riley steps into the room and looks at the control.]

VOLKER
No, you don't have to…

[Riley closes the door.]

VOLKER
Okay.

[Riley opens the door without any problem and stares at Volker.]

VOLKER

(chuckling with embarrassment)

Stupid ship.

INT—DESTINY CORRIDOR AND GATE ROOM

[Greer patrols the corridor in his camouflage uniform. He spots Wray, alone in the Gate Room working at a console.]

GREER
Where is everybody?

WRAY
Uh, I don't know. The room was empty when I got here. Can I help you with something?

GREER
What are you doing?

WRAY

(with attitude)

Nothing you need to worry about.

GREER
I like to worry.

[He steps closer.]

WRAY
I was just updating some personnel files.

GREER

(skeptical)

In the Gate Room?

WRAY
Colonel Young and Doctor Rush know all about it…in case you'd like to talk to them.

GREER
I'll do that.

[Wray nods and walks away. Greer watches her leave, full of suspicion.]

ELI
Greer?

[He turns to see Eli in the corridor behind him.]

ELI
Have you seen Matt?

GREER
I have not.

INT—JAMES'S QUARTERS

[James sits on her bed, her arms around her knees, staring down at Scott's dead body.]

YOUNG

(over radio)
Lieutenant James, come in.
(after a pause)

Lieutenant James, this is Colonel Young. Please respond.

[James tries to control her crying enough to answer the radio.]

JAMES

(into radio)

Yes, sir.

YOUNG
You're late with the current ammunition count…Lieutenant, what are you doing?

JAMES

(into radio, voice cracking slightly)

Nothing, sir. I'm fine…I am…I just lost track of time, um, but I'm on my way now. James out.

INT—MESS HALL

[Becker comes over to a table with other military personnel.]

BECKER
So I heard that Colonel Young is calling off the search for Franklin.

MARSDEN
Yeah.

DUNNING
It's not like anyone's really looking for him. The man just vanished.

BECKER
Weird.

[Becker and the other men start to leave. Dunning grabs his radio to follow, and gets distracted by the inside of his forearm.]

MARSDEN
Dunning…come on.

[Dunning looks over, looking at his forearm again. He rubs it, looking puzzled as he follows his colleagues.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Volker turns a corner and reaches a blocked passage filled with old pipes.]

VOLKER
What the hell?

[He turns back the way he came but that way too is blocked with identical pipes. He leans against the bulkhead, starting to hyperventilate.]

SCOTT
Doctor Volker?

[Volker spins back around. The previously blocked passage is now an empty junction area of corridors. Scott stands in the center.]

SCOTT
Are you okay?

[Volker turns back around and the other blocked wall of pipes has also disappeared.]

VOLKER
Something weird's going on here.

[Scott approaches.]

SCOTT
What is it?

[Volker doesn't respond.]

SCOTT
All right…you look tired. Maybe you should go lie down.

VOLKER
Yeah…maybe I will.

[He slowly heads back the way he came. Scott shakes his head in puzzlement then heads in another direction. He spots a small person, maybe even a child running in a distant corridor. Scott follows. He sees his son, Matthew, standing at the end of the corridor.]

SCOTT

(incredulous)

Matthew?!

INT—OUTSIDE WRAY'S QUARTERS

[Rush knocks on the door. Wray answers, startled to see him.]

WRAY
Nicholas!

RUSH
Hi.

[He looks uncertain, hesitating.]

WRAY
Something wrong?

RUSH
I need to talk to you about something that hap—

[Young arrives.]

YOUNG
Just the two I need to see.

WRAY
Colonel.

[Rush shifts, rolling his eyes in frustration.]

YOUNG
Am I interrupting something?

[Wray looks to Rush.]

RUSH
No.

YOUNG
Good.

INT—WRAY'S QUARTERS

WRAY
I wasn't even in the Gate Room today.

RUSH

(puzzled)

He said it was empty?

YOUNG
Only person in the room was Wray. Working at one of the consoles, updating the files. Said you told him that Rush and I knew all about it.

RUSH
Nah, I don't know anything about this.

WRAY
And I don't know what to tell you, Colonel…other than he's lying.

YOUNG
He has no reason to lie.

[Rush and Wray both scoff and laugh.]

RUSH
Please.

WRAY
Sergeant Greer has had it in for us since the first day we came aboard this ship—

YOUNG
Correction, since the day the two of you led a mutiny to take it over. I can understand his suspicion.

WRAY

(soberly)

I was not in the Gate Room.

INT—CORRIDORS

[Scott runs down the corridors, chasing Matthew. He meets Chloe at a junction, uncertain where to go next.]

CHLOE
Hey? Are you all right?

SCOTT
You didn't pass anyone in the corridor just now?

CHLOE
No.

SCOTT

(exasperated)

Oh, my…

CHLOE
Matt, what happened?

[Scott leans over, catching his breath. His radio flares to life. There are screams and loud noises.]

PARK

(frantic, over radio)

We need help in the workout room! Anyone from the military. As many as possible! Now!

INT—WORKOUT ROOM

[Scott and Chloe run into the room. Dunning is throwing off other people, his arm covered in blood. Park stares in horror, her own shirt covered in blood as Dunning starts scratching his arm again. Muscles and bone are visible from the open wound.]

DUNNING
Get it!

CHLOE
Oh my god!

[Another military member tackles him, trying to stop his self-mutilation.]

DUNNING
Get it out! Get it out!

PARK
He thinks a snake is crawling under his skin.

[Scott kneels to help, glancing up. He sees Matthew standing at the door to the room. He blinks and rubs his eyes.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ treats the wounded arm where an unconscious Dunning is strapped to a gurney. Park and Young stand nearby.]

YOUNG
A snake?

PARK
He said it was crawling around under his skin, but no one saw anything. He just…flipped out.

TJ
I can't find anything physically wrong with him other than the wounds that he inflicted on himself.

YOUNG

(to TJ)

Have you noticed any unusual behavior from him lately?

PARK

(quickly answering)

No, he's been his normal self.

[TJ and Young both look at her.]

PARK

(self-conscious)

As far as I can tell.

YOUNG
All right, well, let's, um, let's keep him here, close eye on him. And let me know when the sedatives wear off, I want to talk to him.

[Young leaves.]

INT—MESS HALL

[Eli, Chloe, Riley, and Greer sit at a table.]

ELI
No warning or anything? He just…just went nuts?

[Becker takes Eli's empty bowl.]

CHLOE
Yeah. Some kind of nervous breakdown. It was pretty scary.

ELI
Tearing gashes in your own arms? That's…that's intense.

RILEY
The stress of life on this ship? Day after day not of knowing what's ahead? It's a wonder more people aren't cracking up.

ELI

I'm just glad he took it out on himself.
(realizing how that sounded)

And…and didn't start shooting people.

[Greer stares at a distant table where Wray and Rush are pouring over some large papers together, talking quietly.]

CHLOE
Hey, you all right?

RILEY
Hello? Earth to Greer?

[Greer glances at Riley, then at Chloe.]

GREER
I'm fine.

[He leaves the table.]

RILEY

(nodding towards Greer)

I always figured he'd be the first to snap.

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Rush works at a console. He notices a shadow pass behind him. He gets up and heads into the corridor.]

RUSH

(calling)

Sergeant Greer? You want to accuse me of something, come forward. No need for spying.

[Brody comes around to the entrance where he'd been working in the room.]

BRODY
Who you talking to?

RUSH

(with a small chuckle)

Apparently no one.

INT—VOLKER'S QUARTERS

[Volker lies on his bed with a cloth over his eyes. He removes the cloth then slowly opens his eyes. He realizes he's trapped with solid stone panels on all sides.]

VOLKER

(sobbing in panic)

Wha-no! No! No! Help! Someone help me, please! Get me out of here! Get me out of here! Wait! Get me out of here!

[He pounds on the panels in a frenzy.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Scott slowly heads to a section and opens the door. Matthew stands on the other side, the slowly moves away. Scott follows.]

INT—ARMORY

[Young is with Becker, who is doing the ammunition inventory.]

YOUNG
Well, where the hell is she?

BECKER
I don't know, sir. I tried to radio her. She's not responding.

YOUNG

(exasperated)
Oh, for god's sake.
(into radio)

Lieutenant James, come in. Lieutenant James, this is Colonel Young, please respond.

INT—JAMES'S QUARTERS

[Young stands outside the quarters.]

YOUNG
James!

[He opens the door to find her sitting curled up at the edge of her bed staring down at the empty floor.]

JAMES

(hiccuping sobs)

I'm so sorry! I…

INT—OBSERVATION DECK

[Scott sees Matthew standing at the balcony rail looking at the aurora effect. He crouches next to him and runs his hand through Matthew's hair.]

SCOTT
You can't be real.

MATTHEW
Why did you leave me?

[Scott starts to cry.]

YOUNG

(over radio)

Lieutenant Scott?

[Scott turns away from Matthew and gathers himself.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Yeah, Colonel, go ahead.

YOUNG

(over radio)

I need you in the infirmary.

INT—INFIRMARY

[Scott enters. TJ is examining James's eye reaction. Young stands nearby. James spots Scott and becomes very agitated.]

JAMES
You're alive!

[Scott stops short.]

YOUNG
She thinks she killed you.

JAMES
How did you…you were in my room!

TJ

(soothingly)

You're hallucinating. Just like Airman Dunning.

JAMES

(panicked)

What the hell is going on here?!

YOUNG
We don't know yet.

TJ
I can't find anything physically wrong with either one of them.

SCOTT
I'm seeing things, too.

[They stare at him, but James can't look at him for long.]

SCOTT
Hallucinations. My son. I keep seeing him on this ship. I just…I just talked to him.

YOUNG

(realizing)

Your away team. James and Dunning went off-world with you to the last planet.

TJ
Maybe they picked something up.

JAMES
We didn't ingest anything that…

TJ
It could have been airborne. Any-any number of possibilities.

SCOTT
Corporal Barnes was on the away team as well. So was Doctor Volker.

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE VOLKER'S QUARTERS

[Riley and two burly SFs head down a corridor. They can hear Volker's screams from inside his room.]

VOLKER
Help! Help, please! Help me!

RILEY

(into radio)

Colonel, we got him.

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ examines Volker while Young and Scott speak with Barnes, who sits placidly on another gurney. Volker is lying down, strapped to a gurney.]

SCOTT
Nothing?

BARNES
No.

SCOTT
No weird things out of the corner of your eye?

YOUNG
Disorientation?

BARNES
No. Felling pretty much the way I always do. Hungry, tired, but I'm not seeing things.

TJ
Maybe she's…immune to whatever it is the others picked up.

VOLKER
Maybe her symptoms are just taking longer to show up.

BARNES

(sarcastic)

Thanks.

YOUNG
But physically, they're okay?

TJ

(nodding)

So far as I can tell, yeah.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Young walks with Chloe.]

YOUNG
No, he's doing fine. But I'm going to quarantine the entire away team. Hopefully isolate the hallucinations until they pass.

CHLOE
What if they don't pass? What if it gets worse?

YOUNG
I'm sure whatever it is, TJ will figure it out. I mean, she's done pretty damn good so far.

CHLOE
Is there anything I can do?

YOUNG
No. No. I'll pass the word. I'll…let everyone know what's going on, but the situation's been contained, so there's no need for anybody to get alarmed. As soon as I know anything…

TJ

(over radio)

Colonel Young, come in.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Yeah, TJ.

TJ

(over radio)

Can you come to the infirmary? I just discovered something.

YOUNG

(to Chloe)

You see?

INT—INFIRMARY

[Chloe and Young look closely where TJ has a magnifying glass at the back of Scott's head.]

TJ
So, it's difficult to see, which is why I missed it on my initial examinations. You see right there?

YOUNG
Yeah, it looks like a…tick.

TJ
Yeah. I just checked the others. They all have one, same spot, top of the neck there. All except Corporal Barnes. She's clear.

CHLOE
Welcome to our new galaxy.

SCOTT
So, the "ticks" are causing the hallucinations?

TJ
I don't know for sure, but I think so. Maybe they inject a venom, some kind of toxin that affects the brain's chemistry.

VOLKER

(fighting against the straps)

Okay, I want out. Please, just get me out of here. I want out of here, TJ.

[TJ moves over to him.]

TJ
Okay, okay. Just relax, okay?

[She injects him with a sedative and waits for him to settle.]

YOUNG
Can you remove it?

TJ
They seem similar to Earth ticks. I could try and remove it the same way.

YOUNG

(to Scott)

You up for going first?

[Scott sees Matthew standing in the doorway. After a moment, he nods. TJ takes tweezers and starts to remove the tick. Scott gasps once for air, then collapses. Young and TJ catch him and lower him to lie flat on the gurney. James winces in dismay.]

TJ
Lieutenant Scott?

CHLOE
What happened?

TJ
I don't know. He's crashing. Let's start CPR.

[TJ reaches for an oxygen bladder as Young does chest compressions. After a few minutes…]

TJ
He's breathing. He's back.

YOUNG
All right. We get it? We remove it?

[They roll him to his side, and TJ checks with her magnifying glass. The creature is now barely visible, but there is a hole in his scalp.]

TJ
It's dug in even deeper.

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny flies faster than light.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[Scott lies unconscious on his gurney. TJ puts away a blood pressure cuff.]

TJ
His pulse is normal. BP's back in range.

[Young moves closer to TJ to try to converse without Chloe or the other patients overhearing. Chloe can still hear.]

YOUNG
Listen…is removing them impossible?

TJ
No. It's just that when I tried to pull it off, it must have released more toxin. I'll just have to figure out another way.

YOUNG
Get to it.

[Young leaves. Chloe stands over Scott looking worried. James looks over at Scott. What she sees is the hallucination of Scott with the bloody wound. She closes her eyes and fights to keep her composure.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer is hidden around a corner, watching the corridor behind him using a small mirror. Wray makes movements near a console, checking to see if she's watched before leaving.]

INT—SHUTTLE

[Chloe walks past the shuttle door, seeing a man seated in the pilot's chair. She draws closer, wary. The silhouette looks familiar. As she gets close, he turns to face her. It's her dead father, Senator Armstrong. He smiles at her. Chloe gasps and draws back in shock.]

ARMSTRONG
Hello, sweetheart. It's all right. It's really me.

CHLOE
No…no. You're…you're not real.

ARMSTRONG
Chloe…

CHLOE
Oh god. This isn't happening.

ARMSTRONG
Hey…Chloe. Look at me.

[Reluctantly, she obeys.]

ARMSTRONG
Whether I'm real or not, aren't you at least happy to see your old man? I have missed you, sweetheart.

[Chloe smiles through her tears. Armstrong stands and approaches her.]

ARMSTRONG
I've missed you so much.

[He holds out his arms towards her. She swallows and looks at him, then slowly approaches and curls into his embrace.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Greer pauses outside the control room, hearing Wray's and Rush's voices inside.]

RUSH
So where do you want to put them?

WRAY
If we do this, then we could…

[They continue to murmur quietly over some papers.]

GREER
Hey!

[They stop talking and stare at him.]

GREER
What's going on in here?

RUSH
What do you mean?

WRAY
We were just talking.

GREER
About what?

RUSH
Is something bothering you, Sergeant?

GREER

(aggressively)

I don't know. Should there be?

RUSH
If you've got something to say, why don't you just go ahead and say it?

GREER
You're not taking over this ship again.

[Rush sighs and glances at Wray.]

RUSH
We've no intentions of doing so.

WRAY
You're being paranoid.

GREER
I know you're up to something.

[Wray looks nervous at Greer's stare.]

RUSH
And you have proof of this, do you?

[Greer stares at him but doesn't react.]

RUSH
Of course you don't. We're done here.

[Rush leaves. Wray heads down a corridor. Greer watches her leave. She glances back and smirks at him.]

EXT—OBSERVATION DECK

[Chloe and Armstrong head to the balcony rail.]

CHLOE
We haven't had any luck yet figuring out a way home. God knows if we ever will. We do have the communications stones. I was able to use them to go see Mom.

ARMSTRONG

(concerned)

How is she?

CHLOE
Strong. Fragile. Doing her best, considering.

ARMSTRONG
She's a fighter, like you.

[He pats her on the back soothingly.]

CHLOE
Sometimes I see you in my dreams, but they always end the same. I'm trying to get through this…but it just gets so…

ARMSTRONG

Hey. One step at a time.
(approaching rail)

Look at that view. God, I've never seen anything like it. I've always dreamed that you would live a life of adventure, travel the world.

CHLOE

(wryly)

I know. You told me frequently.

ARMSTRONG
Well, look at you now: sailing through the universe, exploring galaxies and planets. You're living my dream, kiddo.

[They smile at each other. He draws her close in a one-armed hug.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ is working when Young arrives. TJ is holding a vial of yellow liquid.]

YOUNG
Hey, whaddya got?

TJ
The venom we extracted from the jungle planet creature. It worked as an anesthetic on Rush during his surgery. I think that if I apply it topically to the tip…

YOUNG
Knock it out, give you time to remove it.

TJ
Mm hmm.

YOUNG
That's great.

[Scott swallows and licks his lips.]

TJ
Oh, he's coming to.

SCOTT
What happened?

YOUNG
You got a jolt when we tried to remove the tick.

[Scott struggles to sit up, but can't do it.]

SCOTT

(groaning)

Oh!

YOUNG

(pushing him back)

Relax, just relax.

TJ
We're going to try to anesthetize it, and then I'll try to see if I can remove it safely. Okay?

[Scott looks at Young, then nods.]

TJ
Okay, let's just take a look here.

[Scott turns his head and rolls at TJ's prompting. She looks at the back of his neck with her magnifier. TJ stares a few moments, than stands up straight.]

TJ

(puzzled)

It's gone. The tick.

YOUNG
It just died off?

TJ
I don't know.

[She checks the other patients. Scott sits up. Young checks Volker for her.]

TJ
Theirs are both still attached.

YOUNG
Volker as well.

SCOTT
Could it have jumped?

[Young and TJ exchange worried looks.]

EXT—OBSERVATION DECK

[Eli sees Chloe laughing at the bar, talking to someone he can't see from the bulkhead angles.]

CHLOE
Yeah, no, I remember.

[Eli approaches as Chloe laughs and remains engrossed in conversation.]

CHLOE
Gosh, it's so funny. I feel like that was forever ago.

[Eli enters the room fully and his smile falters as he sees she's talking to no one.]

ELI
Hey.

[Chloe starts and looks guiltily at Eli. He walks toward her.]

ELI
What are you doing?

[Chloe looks at Armstrong, who smiles at her encouragingly.]

ELI

(worried)
What's wrong?
(pausing)

Chloe!

CHLOE
I'm fine.

ELI
Really? 'Cause you don't…seem…fine.

CHLOE
My father's here. I mean, I…I know he's not…here. I'm just…

ELI
Just…hallucinating?

CHLOE

(weakly nodding)

It's really strange. He's so…real.

ELI
You're seeing him right now?

CHLOE
Yes.

ELI
Where?

CHLOE
Right beside me.

[She smiles at her father. Eli looks at the blank stool beside her.]

ARMSTRONG
Hello, Mr. Wallace.

CHLOE

(to nonexistent Armstrong)

He can't hear you.

ELI
Okay…Chloe. We've got to get you to the infirmary, just…have TJ take a look…

CHLOE
No, I already know what's wrong.

[Eli sighs.]

CHLOE

(quickly)

There's a tick on me. Matt and his team picked them up on the last planet. One must have jumped to me somehow—

ELI
Wait a minute, what? An alien…tick? Are you kidding me?!

CHLOE
TJ thinks it might inject some kind of toxin that causes people to hallucinate.

[Eli grabs Chloe's arm and tries to pull her away. She resists.]

ELI
Look. We have to go!

CHLOE
No, no!

ELI
Chloe!

CHLOE
Wait! It doesn't hurt!

ELI
That's not the point!

CHLOE
And he's not hurting me either!

ELI
He? He?! You mean your imaginary father?!

CHLOE

(desperate)
I'm not crazy! I know what's going on. I know that he's not real. But I can't…
(she holds back a sob)

I'm not ready to lose him again, okay?

ELI
You can't let that thing stay on you.

CHLOE
I know, okay? I know. Just…humor me, all right? Give me some time?

[Eli shakes his head pityingly.]

CHLOE
I'll go see TJ soon. I promise. But for now, just…don't tell anyone, okay? Please, Eli?

[Eli glances at the empty stool, then at Chloe's pleading face and relents, nodding his agreement.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Rush heads down a corridor. He pauses, hearing movement behind him. He spins around.]

RUSH
Okay, Sergeant, I've just…

[There's no one there. He turns to keep walking and finds his way blocked by a clear wall. He pounds against it. He turns and realizes he's trapped in a glass tube, similar to the one that held him when he was captured by aliens. Water starts to flow in from the floor. He flails and screams in panic as the water rises past his knees to his chest. He continues turning, only to find himself alone once again in the open corridor, completely dry. He leans against the bulkhead.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[Young checks TJ's neck.]

YOUNG
I don't see anything. You're clear, too.

SCOTT
What happened to it?

YOUNG
Listen, I want you to go back to your quarters and stay there until—

TJ
No.

YOUNG
Just a precaution in case something—

TJ
I need to be here.

YOUNG
Cole can take over for you.

TJ

No, Colonel, please. I'm fine. Look, we'll check ourselves periodically, and if I start having any hallucinations, …
(realizing)

Chloe. She was in here earlier.

SCOTT
I'll go find her.

[He rushes out.]

INT—RUSH'S QUARTERS

[Rush reaches his bed and slowly sits on it, still breathing heavily from his scare. He glances at his open doorway with his peripheral vision and hears, then sees, a blue alien pausing outside his door, chittering at him. He shudders, petrified for several moments, then moves to close the door before the alien can reach him, barely getting it sealed in time.]

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ, wearing gloves, prepares James's neck where the tick protrudes. She takes some venom and applies it to the tick and looks to Young.]

YOUNG
Ready?

[He moves to James's front and holds her hand, keeping eye contact with her. TJ uses tweezers and carefully removes the small tick. Young smashes it.]

TJ

(to James)

Okay?

[After a moment, James nods. She is still troubled.]

INT—RUSH'S QUARTERS

RUSH

(into radio, panicked)

Colonel Young. Come in. Colonel Young, do you read?

[He only hears static. He drops the useless radio. Panting in fear, he moves slowly to the door. He opens it, expecting the worst, but the corridor is empty.]

INT—CORRIDOR OUTSIDE OBSERVATION DECK

[Scott jogs through the corridor. He spots Eli worriedly leaning against the bulkhead outside the observation deck.]

SCOTT
Eli…

ELI
Hey! Are you okay? I heard…

SCOTT
I'm fine. Have you seen Chloe?

[Eli sighs and looks down, clearly troubled.]

SCOTT
Eli?

ELI
Yeah.

[He points with his thumb to the observation deck. They walk toward it.]

INT—OBSERVATION DECK

[They enter. Chloe sees Scott right away.]

CHLOE
Matt!

SCOTT
Hey. I need you to come with me to the infirmary. There's a…chance that the tick that was on me jumped to you. Uh, have you seen any weird things?

CHLOE

(with false brightness)

No. I'm fine.

ELI

(warningly)

Chloe…

[They both look at Eli.]

ELI
She's seeing her dad.

CHLOE
Eli!

SCOTT
Yeah. We need to get you to the infirmary.

CHLOE
No, just wait a minute. I just need a little more time…

SCOTT

(talking over her)

We can't risk letting that thing stay on you.

[Scott takes her arm. Armstrong grabs her other arm, pulling her back.]

ARMSTRONG
Don't leave me! Chloe!

SCOTT
Come on, Chloe. Move. Chloe. Come on.

CHLOE
No. Wait! I'm not!

[Scott and Eli both work to pull Chloe's arm off where it grips the bar, dragging her kicking and screaming away from the room.]

SCOTT

(soothingly)

Come on, it'll be okay.

INT—GATE ROOM

[Rush cautiously peeks into the room. He sees the Stargate active and several blue aliens walking through. His eyes widen in panic, and he runs away.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Wray spots Greer waiting outside her room.]

WRAY

(annoyed)

Can I help you with something, Sergeant?

GREER
You can start by wiping that smile off your face.

WRAY

(puzzled, unsmiling)

What smile? I'd appreciate you not telling lies about me to Colonel Young.

[Greer steps closer, invading her personal space. She doesn't back away, but looks frightened.]

GREER
Lies?

WRAY
Telling him that I was in the Gate Room? Messing with the consoles? I don't know what kind of game you're playing, Sergeant…

[Rush peeks around from the end of the corridor. From his point of view, he sees Wray and Greer as blue aliens who have spotted him. He runs away. Greer, spotting him, runs after Rush. Wray hadn't seen Rush, she just knows Greer has taken off on alert about something down the corridor.]

WRAY
What are you doing?

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ checks Chloe.]

TJ
There it is.

CHLOE

(sadly)

I don't know why you have to remove it. It's not hurting me.

ELI
You don't know that. It's making you…hallucinate. Who knows what else it's doing.

SCOTT
It's too dangerous to leave in place.

YOUNG
Guys, this discussion needs to end now. Let's…let's remove it.

[TJ has not stopped working throughout the discussion anyway. Chloe cries and turns to Armstrong, who she sees by her side.]

ARMSTRONG
Tell your mother I love her. I miss her.

CHLOE

(crying)

I love you, Daddy.

[Everyone exchanges pitying looks at Chloe's side of this hallucinatory conversation.]

ARMSTRONG
I love you too, sweetheart. You're living our dream. Remember that.

[She nods at him. He kisses her forehead and backs away. Chloe gasps as he disappears. TJ has removed the tick. She lays it on the tray, where Scott smashes it with the butt of his sidearm. Chloe sadly watches it destroyed.]

GREER

(over radio)

Colonel Young, come in.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Go ahead, Sergeant.

INT—CORRIDOR

GREER
Colonel Young, we have a problem. The civilians are trying to take over the ship again.

INT—INFIRMARY

YOUNG

(into radio, bewildered)

What?

GREER

(over radio)

I'm pursuing Rush. He and Wray are actively….

INT—CORRIDOR

GREER

(continuing into radio)

…trying to seize control of the ship. Now, I don't know who else is working with them, sir, but we need to mobilize…now.

[He reaches an area where he still sees Rush's shadow moving. He dodges out of sight, taking cover warily.]

INT—INFIRMARY

YOUNG

(into radio)

Sergeant, I need you to listen to me. Do not do anything. I will talk to them.

GREER

(whispering over radio)

Permission to use deadly force, sir.

YOUNG

(into radio)

What?! No. Did you hear what I said? I need you to stand down! Do not do anything.

INT—CORRIDOR

YOUNG

(over radio)

Permission granted. Use whatever force necessary to stop them.

GREER

(into radio)

Copy that.

[He swaggers down the corridor.]

YOUNG

(over radio)

Sergeant, we don't know if these channels have been compromised. Go to radio silence.

GREER

(into radio)

Yes, sir.

[He turns off his radio and primes his pistol, holding it ready in front of him with his flashlight.]

INT—INFIRMARY

YOUNG

(into radio)

Greer, acknowledge. I said, stand down!

ELI

(worried)

Y-you think he might be hallucinating, too?

SCOTT
How? All the ticks have been accounted for.

TJ
Unless there was more than one tick on each of you when you guys got back.

YOUNG
Go find Greer.

SCOTT
Yes, sir.

[Scott leaves.]

YOUNG
We need to examine everyone on this ship. Quarantine anyone who's clear.

TJ
Yes, sir.

[Young leaves.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Greer stands silhouetted at the end of corridor, weapon at ready. Wray has caught up and spots the figure, pausing and hiding, then recognizes Greer.]

WRAY

(nervously)

Sergeant Greer!

[He moves further down the corridor. Wray nervously follows.]

[Further ahead, Rush reaches a dead end, but there are cargo hold rooms nearby. He opens the door and enters.]

INT—CARGO ROOM

[Rush scrambles to open equipment boxes, looking for anything he can use as a weapon. He picks a side aisle to better hide after finding nothing, still randomly checking boxes. He finds a screwdriver. Greer enters, pistol at ready.]

GREER
I know you're in here, Rush. Show yourself!

[Rush hides from what he sees as a blue alien as Greer searches for Rush. He sidles along, trying to sneak back out while the "alien" searches the far side of the room. He reaches the door just as another alien enters. "It" spots him, so he rushes it, stabbing the real Wray. She screams in pain and drops to floor. Greer pistol whips Rush, knocking him down. Greer seals the cargo bay door and shoots the control.]

WRAY
No! What are you doing?! Open that door!

[She cringes as Greer points his pistol and flashlight at her.]

GREER
You're not taking over this ship again.

INT—OUTSIDE INFIRMARY

[Young walks along the lighted corridor just outside the infirmary. The crew are lined up waiting to be checked for ticks.]

SCOTT

(over radio)

Colonel Young, come in.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Go ahead, Scott.

INT—CORRIDOR

[Scott leads a team through darkened corridors.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

No sign of Greer. Still not responding to any radio calls.

INT—OUTSIDE INFIRMARY

YOUNG

(into radio)

Well, keep at it.

SCOTT

(over radio, worried)

Sir, Rush and Wray are also unaccounted for. No one knows where they are. Rush isn't responding to his radio, either.

YOUNG
All right. I'll, uh…put a few more details together.

INT—INFIRMARY

[Young enters. TJ is checking Park.]

YOUNG
TJ.

TJ
Excuse me.

[She leaves Park to go speak to him.]

YOUNG
So, listen, I, uh, I gotta go help look for Greer. You going to be okay?

TJ
Yeah. Fine.

YOUNG
But if you feel any different. You see anything out of the usual—

TJ
No, believe me…I'm…I'm as concerned about this as you are.

YOUNG
Fine, fine. Keep me posted.

TJ
Yeah. Thanks.

[He leaves. Eli, Chloe, James, Dunning, and Volker are gathered in one corner of the infirmary.]

ELI
More than one tick attached to you would explain why some of the hallucinations were more…intense than others.

VOLKER
The toxins. Maybe they target the limbic system. It's the area of the brain that's responsible for emotion. So, fear, anger, remorse…

ELI

Matt's guilt over his son.
(points at Volker)

Claustrophobia.

CHLOE
My dad.

VOLKER

(to Dunning)

Let me guess, issue with snakes?

[Dunning nods.]

VOLKER

(to James)

And you?

[James glances at Chloe, who doesn't look at her. James says nothing.]

INT—CARGO HOLD

[Rush has fallen behind some boxes. He slowly stirs. Wray struggles to breathe, scared and frantic. She holds her left hand over the wound to her right chest.]

WRAY
Listen to me! I can't stop the bleeding. You have to open that door. If I don't get medical attention…

GREER

(into radio)
Yes, Colonel.
(pausing as if listening to someone)

No, sir. I do not know who else is involved in the mutiny. She's refusing to cooperate.

WRAY

(gritting her teeth in pain)

You're not talking to anyone. Your radio is off! What is the matter with you?!

GREER

(ignoring Wray)

Yes, I will continue the interrogation. But at some point, sir, we are just better off ending this, once and for all.

WRAY

(gently, changing tactics)

Sergeant. Sergeant, listen to me.

[Greer looks left and right, listening to imaginary sounds.]

WRAY

(louder)

Sergeant Greer! We are not taking over this ship?!

INT—CORRIDOR

[Some of Scott's team, including Marsden, struggle to open the cargo bay door. Scott approaches.]

SCOTT

(calling)

Whaddya got?!

MARSDEN
Can't get the door open. Must've been disabled from inside. I heard Wray's voice.

[Scott pounds on the door.]

SCOTT

(calling)

Camile?

INT—CARGO BAY

SCOTT

(muffled, through door)

It's Lieutenant Scott.

WRAY
Scott! Help! I'm wounded! Sergeant Greer has got us hostage!

[Greer has pointed his weapon at Rush, but spins to confront Wray.]

GREER
Shut—!

[Wray instantly quiets.]

GREER
Quiet, now.

INT—CORRIDOR

SCOTT

(calling)
Sergeant Greer, it's Lieutenant Scott! Stand down!
(into radio)

Colonel Young, this is Scott, come in.

YOUNG

(over radio)

Yeah.

SCOTT

(into radio)

We have found him. He has locked himself and Wray in one of the storage rooms. I think he's holding her hostage.

[In another corridor, Young and another team are heading towards them.]

INT—STORAGE ROOM

[A frightened and bewildered Rush stares up at Greer, who's pointing his gun at Wray.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Scott pulls some C-4 out of his pack and rolls a small strip of it, laying it on the door with a detonator. Marsden has prepared another piece.]

SCOTT
That's it.

INT—CARGO ROOM

[Greer stares at Wray down the barrel of his pistol.]

GREER
I'm done with you.

WRAY

(begging)

Please, Sergeant….don't.

[Greer focuses on her bloody hand.]

GREER'S DAD
Do it!

[Startled, Greer turns to find his father sitting on a box at the far end of the room. He lowers his weapon.]

GREER'S DAD

(slowly, somberly)

I said, do it.

[Greer raises his weapon to Wray. Rush knocks him in the back with a pipe, making him fall. Greer scrambles to his feet and starts to raise his weapon to Rush, but at that moment the door blasts open, knocking Greer and Rush to the floor, and tossing their weapons away. Greer is quickly tackled and restrained.]

SCOTT

(into radio)

Colonel Young…

[Rush hits Scott in the back with the pipe. Another man tussles with Rush, who rages in panic. Scott writhes on the ground in pain for a moment. A third man puts a pressure bandage on Wray's wound as she groans. Scott stands and takes in the scene.]

SCOTT

(breathless, into radio)

Colonel, we got 'em. Send TJ, we, uh…we have wounded in here.

INT—INFIRMARY

[TJ adjusts a sling on Wray, who winces in pain. Young approaches.]

YOUNG
How you doing?

WRAY
Okay.

TJ
I was able to stop the bleeding and stitch the wound. So we'll keep an eye out for infection, but…she should be okay.

YOUNG
The rest of the crew?

TJ
I checked everyone. It looks like we got 'em all, so… Hopefully things'll get back to normal around here.

WRAY

(scoffing)

Whatever that is.

INT—MESS HALL

[James stares wistfully at another table where Scott and Chloe eat together.]

INT—CONTROL ROOM

[Brody and Park exchange concerned looks as Rush stares blankly at his console. He glances over at them.]

INT—VOLKER'S QUARTERS

[Volker lies awake in bed.]

INT—CORRIDOR

[Wray heads back to her quarters. Greer enters from a different corridor, pausing and nodding to her. She moves past, not breaking stride or looking at him. He watches her pass.]

EXT—OBSERVATION DECK

[Eli watches sadly as Chloe stares out at the aurora effect alone. He walks away.]

EXT—SPACE

[Destiny drops out of faster than light speed.]

INT—GATE ROOM

[The Stargate is active. Young enters. Rush is at the controls with Riley.]

YOUNG
What do we got?

RUSH

Well, the atmosphere is good.
(glancing at clock)

Ten hours on the countdown. Shall we send a team?

YOUNG

(sighing)

Yeah. Our luck's gotta change at some point.

RILEY

(dryly)

Just remember the bug spray.

YOUNG

(into radio)

Scott, this is Young. Get a team ready. You're going off-world.

FADE OUT
