Reminder: “Continuum” on SCI FI Tonight

Stargate: Continuum

Stargate: Continuum will be making its US television premiere tonight at 9 PM Eastern on the Sci Fi Channel! This story, written by Brad Wright, centers on the plans of the last of the Goa’uld System Lords, Ba’al, as he alters the timeline such that the Stargate Program never existed. It will be up to SG-1 to set things straight!

Richard Dean Anderson returns as Maj. Gen. Jack O’Neill as he joins the Season Ten cast of Stargate SG-1. This movie also marks the final Stargate appearance by the late Don S. Davis as George Hammond.

In case you missed the US television premiere of Stargate: The Ark of Truth last week, the Sci Fi Channel will be showing it again at 7 PM. This means four hours of back-to-back SG-1 movie goodness! What a wonderful ride for SG-1 fans!

MGM and Sci Fi have been advertising that they’ll also be showing a sneak peek into Stargate Universe during Continuum. Now, they said that they were going to do that with The Ark of Truth last week, but instead only replayed the teaser that premiered during the series finale of Battlestar Galactica. But, hope springs eternal that they are actually going to show something new and exciting that will be of interest to Stargate fans!

RDA Confirmed for SGU Guest Spot

As we previously reported, the Jack O’Neill character appears in the Stargate Universe episode 1.06 “Earth”. Today at the Creation Stargate Convention in Vancouver, actor Gary Jones (Walter Harriman), said he filmed SGU scenes with Richard Dean Anderson this week, confirming that RDA will reprise his role as O’Neill. Jones didn’t mention the episode name, but said his scenes take place in a redressed version of the SG-1 gate control room set. Jones did one day of filming with Anderson and is very proud to say he’s appeared in all three Stargate series. Based on the spoilers already released, it’s likely Anderson filmed for more than the one day Jones mentioned.  Jones also said O’Neill has been promoted to three-star General, which would make him a Lieutenant General in the US Air Force.

David Blue Does Video Interview

Stargate Universe star David Blue attended the Artist Sanctuary Party on Saturday before the Juno Awards were held this past weekend in Vancouver. The Juno Awards are Canada’s Music Awards, and this year marked their 38th anniversary.

Blue gave several interviews, and the actor reported on his Twitter, “Jamil Walker Smith and I making the rounds doing interviews at the Juno Awards Lounge.” Also with these two SGU actors was Elyse Levesque, who plays Chloe Armstrong in the new show.

Blue’s first interview to make it to the web (that we know of) was with Homorazzi.com. The emphasis of the interview for this website was Blue’s portrayal of a gay character, Cliff, in the Ugly Betty series, but Blue did get to mention his new gig on Universe. Because of the way these interviews are conducted in a room with lots of other people, the audio portion is difficult to understand, but here’s the embedded video for your enjoyment (make sure to visit Homorazzi.com for the complete interview report):

Since Blue said that he and Smith were making the rounds, other interviews from this event may appear soon. In the meantime, you can visit the Homorazzi.com photo album for a picture of the three Stargate stars together.

Stargate Universe Cast Photo!

Michael Ausiello at EW has given us a photo of the cast of Stargate Universe, but he wasn’t bothered with labeling who’s who. Instead, he told us to pass the picture around and label it on our own. (He said, “Study it. Discuss it. Share it with friends. And then try connect the names with the faces, ’cause I don’t have the time to do that whole left-right-front row-back row thing.”)

So, here it is:

SGU Cast

Back Row. Left to Right: Ming-Na (Camille Wray), Justin Louis (Col. Everett Young), Jamil Walker Smith (Sgt. Ronald Greer), Brian J. Smith (Lt. Matthew Scott), Lou Diamond Phillips (Col. Telford)

Middle: Alaina Huffman (MSGT Tamara Johansen), David Blue (Eli Wallace), Elyse Levesque (Chloe Armstrong)

Front: Robert Carlyle (Dr. Nicholas Rush)

Reminder: Stargate Universe Teaser Tonight!

Here’s a gentle reminder that the first promotional teaser for Stargate Universe happens tonight on the Sci Fi Channel during the series finale of Battlestar Galactica, which begins airing at 9 PM!

Consulting producer Joseph Mallozzi said in his weblog, “Just received confirmation that this Friday night, during the series finale of BSG, viewers will be treated to the sneakiest of sneak previews of Stargate: Universe. It’s a great-looking promo so, if you happen to be in the neighborhood, check it out.”

The Sci Fi Channel has been advertising that a sneak peek will also be shown during their broadcast of Stargate: The Ark of Truth on the 27th at 9 PM and of Stargate: Continuum on April 3 at 9 PM.

Check them out and get a glimpse of the ship, the crew, and the show!

First 10 Stargate Universe Episodes Have Titles

Stargate Universe Banner from MGM

Stargate Universe consulting producer Joseph Mallozzi gave his readers the title of the first part of the mid-season two-parter that he’s penning: “Space”. With this title, we now have the names of the first ten episodes of the first season, which consists of 20 episodes.

  • 1.01 “Air Part 1” (written by Robert C. Cooper and Brad Wright; directed by Andy Mikita)
  • 1.02 “Air Part 2” (same as above)
  • 1.03 “Air Part 3” (same as above)
  • 1.04 “Fire” (written by Brad Wright; directed by Peter DeLuise)
  • 1.05 “Water” (written by Carl Binder)
  • 1.06 “Earth” (written by Martin Gero)
  • 1.07 “Time” (written by Robert C. Cooper)
  • 1.08 “Life” (written by Carl Binder)
  • 1.09 “Justice” (written by Alan McCullough; polished by Paul Mullie)
  • 1.10 “Space Part 1” (written by Joseph Mallozzi)

When the writers began their first session for pitching and spinning story ideas back in November, Robert C. Cooper and Brad Wright already had the ideas in place for eight of the stories, so it’s possible that these series co-creators will be given “story by” credits.

As always, the names and order of these episodes are subject to change as they are in production. Visit the Stargate Universe Main Page in the Stargate Wiki for the latest updates.

The cast and crew are currently filming the opening three-parter “Air” and prep work has commenced for “Fire”. The Sci Fi Channel will be showing a teaser trailer for the new show during the series finale of Battlestar Galactica, which begins at 9 PM this Friday, March 20. The network has also advertised that a sneak peek is to be shown during the airing of Stargate: The Ark of Truth on Friday, March 27, and of Stargate: Continuum on Friday, April 3 (both movies start at 9 PM).

Carlyle: Stargate Universe is Darkest Stargate

Robert Carlyle cast as Dr. Nicholas Rush

Stargate Universe star Robert Carlyle was present at the Sci Fi Channel’s Upfronts, and stopped to talk with io9’s Meredith Woerner about his character, the cast, and the premise behind the newest installment in the Stargate franchise.

“I guess what makes this Stargate different from the previous shows in the franchise is it’s a lot darker than the other ones,” the lead actor stated. “This has less to do with interaction with an alien race and more about survival on the ship itself.”

Possible spoilers ahead.

Woerner explains, “The team that is there is ill-equipped to be there. So the first six or seven episodes are actually all called ‘Air,’ ‘Fire,’ ‘Water’ and ‘Earth’ because it’s about surviving amongst that, it’s more drama-based and more character-driven.”

Carlyle explains in more detail about why he considers this particular installment darker, “In the first three hours there are three deaths. It’s very heavy. There’s a suicide by episode six, as well. Because these people are in the far reaches of the universe, never to come home. That’s the thing Rush explains, that it’s impossible to go back. And they don’t know where else to turn.”

Dr. Nicholas Rush, Carlyle’s character, was described as “a bit out of his senses,” but the actor clarifies, “Well not really, from his point of view, but the others think that he’s maybe losing it. But he does things for a reason.”

But not to go too dark, SGU will have some of Stargate‘s trademark humor. “David Blue [who plays Eli Wallace], particularly … he’s naturally funny anyway, he plays a kind of a comic relief, I guess, on the show.”

Visit io9: Carlyle Reveals Why This Is the Darkest Stargate for the complete interview.

Stargate Universe is currently filming in Vancouver and is slated to premiere this fall on the SyFy Channel.
