Mallozzi on the Production of Atlantis

Executive producer and co-showrunner Joseph Mallozzi was interviewed by Sharon Gosling on the production of Seasons Four and Five of Stargate Atlantis for the official MGM Stargate site. Currently, the last few episodes of Season Four are in post-production, which includes the adding of visual effects and soundtrack. But rather than talk technical talk, Mallozzi gave a glimpse behind some of the story arcs that have been set up by the first half of the season.

Mallozzi also talked enthusiastically about having Christopher Judge return to the Stargate sets as Teal’c in both “Reunion” and “Midway”. He said, “Chris is great in it, and it’s just great to be working with him. The crew love having him as well, he’s such a jolly, warm and demonstrative individual. The exact opposite of Teal’c, ironically! So it was really nice to have Chris back.” Mallozzi hopes to see Judge return as Teal’c in Season Five. “If Teal’c could come and do another script or two, that would be great as well.”

Another actor from Stargate SG-1 Mallozzi mentioned as wanting to appear in Season Five is Michael Shanks. “Late last season I told him I would love to have Daniel on Stargate: Atlantis. He said to give him a call. So I did, a couple of weeks ago. I told him the situation, and he said he would be interested in coming over. So now it’s a matter of getting the right script or scripts together. We’d love to have him.”

And as for Season Five, Mallozzi told MGM, “We want to address some of the issues that are left unresolved at the end of season four. In fact, actually, season four ends in a big way. The final shot in particular will leave fans hanging on to that cliff! It’s a huge cliff hanger ending. That was always our plan, and fortunately we got the pick-up, so we’ll be able to continue where we left off at the end of season four and answer those questions. One of the things I will say that we will be concentrating on in season five is the introduction of new races — friend and foe.”
