The first SG-1 episode in the first season of the new Big Finish Stargate series of audio dramas is now available for download at the production’s website today, April 1.
“Gift of the Gods”, written by Sally Malcolm, is narrated by Michael Shanks and John Schwab and is set during Season Three. The audio play, which also features a musical score, runs for approximately 70 minutes.
The story synopsis: “Doctor Daniel Jackson wakes up on the floor of his SGC lab, with no memory of what happened or how he got there. With him is Lt. Hunter of SG-12 — the team that should have accompanied SG-1 on their mission to P2K-797. But now, here they are, back on Earth with the whole of Stargate Command incapacitated around them. … So what happened? Why can no one remember? And why is the Stargate apparently connected to an alternate reality?”
Here’s the announcement placed by Big Finish concerning the pricing of the CDs and downloads:
Stargate SG-1/Atlantis Audio Adventures Pricing Announced.
Big Finish’s new download service will reach as far as the Pegasus Galaxy, as the company prepares to launch its brand new series of Stargate SG-1/Stargate Atlantis audio adventures. From April 1st, listeners will be able to pay for an instant download as well as on hard-copy audio CD.
“The Stargate franchise is loved the world over, and we want to make the series as accessible — and affordable — as possible to listeners all over the globe.” said Executive Producer Sharon Gosling. “At some point in the future, we will also be looking to sign up a dedicated US distributor to handle the sales of the series on CD.”
Fans will be able to download each adventure, along with the CD artwork, for £8.99/$8.99 (US).
A behind-the-scenes extra, an interview with Michael Shanks, appears to be available only on the CD, which is currently priced at $20.07 + $3.03 shipping (USD) at the website. Amazon UK is also distributing the CD at £6.59.
The next episode in the series will feature Torri Higginson in the Stargate Atlantis story “A Necessary Evil”, due to be released May 30 (according to Amazon).
Cool! I just ordered the CD from the site (although Amazon maybe have been cheaper — d’oh). I like to have something tangible and the extra sounds fun. Thanks for the reminder!
