Summary
Cameron Mitchell is laid-back by nature—a characteristic he sometimes exaggerates to throw potential adversaries off (9.03 "Origin", 9.08 "Babylon", 9.11 "The Fourth Horseman Part 2"). Sometimes for effect, and sometimes during times of stress, a Southern accent becomes more pronounced. He tends to give the alien technology they come across and that which they develop informal names.
He also has at least a passing familiarity with Mandarin (9.18 "The Scourge").
His pilot call sign is "Shaft", as in the cam-shaft of a vehicle (9.06 "Beachhead").
His upbringing was in a religious household, and he is able to quote scripture easily (9.03 "Origin"). Cameron is also an aficionado of popular culture, especially movies.
Movie References
- The Blues Brothers: reuniting SG-1 was "getting the band back together" (9.01 "Avalon Part 1", 9.06 "Beachhead").
- Buckaroo Banzai: "No matter where you go, there you are." (9.03 "Origin").
- Cordon Bleu: references the movie when in a briefing with his teammates(10.19 "Dominion").
- Deuce Bigalow: European Gigilo watched it the night before his mission to Vagonbrei, to his regret (10.02 "Morpheus")
- Die Hard: references the hero, John MacLane, when security guard gets drop on him and Vala. Although Daniel did not understand Cameron's meaning, Teal'c immediately understood the reference (10.16 "Bad Guys").
- Ed Grimley: not exactly a movie, but references a stock character role created by comedian Martin Short (9.20 "Camelot").
- Ghost: When Mitchell and Carter accidentally moved into another dimension with no way to communicate with anyone in the SGC, Mitchell compared himself to Patrick Swayze in Ghost. He implored the oblivious Landry that they needed a "Whoopi" (Whoopi Goldberg played a psychic character that helped ghost Swayze communicate to others in the movie) (9.18 "Arthur's Mantle").
- Holy Grail: Mitchell has seen more than one movie about this aspect of the Arthurian legend, and in every movie he's seen, it's a "cup" (see also Monty Python, below) (9.20 "Camelot").
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail is referenced when Mitchell asks Daniel during a briefing if Sir Gawain was one of the knights who says "Ni". (10.02 "Morpheus")
- Old School: Mitchell showed his appreciation for Teal'c's choice for movie night by quoting "My Boy Blue" from the movie (9.17 "The Scourge").
- Patton: recognizing Landry's Gen. Patton quote from the movie (9.01 "Avalon Part 1").
- Pod man: Mitchell's reference to Khalek before becoming aware of his identity could have been a reference to a host of B level horror/science fiction movies (9.09 "Prototype").
- Spartacus — referenced the famous scene where all the slaves claimed to be Spartacus when dealing with one of the many Ba'als who claimed he was the original (10.04 "Insiders")
- Starship Troopers: After SG-1 barely escaped a scourge of alien insects, Mitchell's choice for movie night was a film about soldiers fighting giant alien insects (9.17 "The Scourge").
- The Three Stooges — referenced Curly, one of the Stooges amongst colorful nicknames of Joe Bob and Junior to describe a native lizard on Vagonbrei (10.02 "Morpheus")
Star Trek
Mitchell is also a fan of Star Trek, at least the original series.
- References Dr. "Bones" McCoy when Jolan used a sedative to make him appear dead (9.08 "Babylon")
