Col. Abraham Ellis

Col. Abraham "Abe" Ellis is the current commander of the Daedalus-class starship U.S.S. Apollo, assigned to protect and serve the Atlantis Base in the Pegasus Galaxy. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.20 "First Strike Part 1")

Character Biography

Col. Ellis strongly supports the military's chain of command and adheres to his orders without question. He commands the fourth Daedalus-class starship produced by those of Earth, the U.S.S. Apollo. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.20 "First Strike Part 1")

Upon his arrival to Atlantis, Ellis went straight to business and brushed off Dr. Elizabeth Weir's concerns, stating that she didn't have the authority to oppose his orders that had come to him through the Pentagon and at the IOA's request. Ellis privately told Lt. Col. John Sheppard that he believed that Sheppard should be in command of Atlantis because the base, clearly at the front line of defense of Earth in the Pegasus Galaxy, should be under the command of a military officer. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.20 "First Strike Part 1")

Ellis's first mission was to deploy the Horizon Weapons Platform to target several shipyards of the Asuran homeworld. The fear of the Pentagon and the IOA was that the Asurans were building a large space fleet to attack Earth, so Ellis was sent on the Apollo to destroy these ships before they were completed. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.20 "First Strike Part 1")

The Horizon performed the mission successfully, but the first strike strategy backfired on Atlantis when the Asurans retaliated with a satellite-borne Stargate that channeled a massive energy beam from the Asuran homeworld. The Apollo was used to determine the nature of the satellite, and during the investigation, it was slightly damaged when the energy beam struck the ship in orbit. Once it was evident that the city was in grave danger, Ellis softened somewhat when dealing with Weir, even though he admitted that he didn't like her all that much, and worked with her to save the city.
