Before Joining the Stargate Program

"I play Camile Wray and she's an IOA officer and she heads the Human Resources Department. She's very ambitious, and yet at the same time, what I love about her character is that she also really cares about the people and she's very concerned about what's going to happen not just to herself, but to everyone—psychologically, emotionally—and what is going to happen to all of them. These are her friends: that I felt was really important. If you're going to play an IOA officer, it's good to have one where not everyone hates you." (Ming-Na, MGM Character Profile video)

Icarus Base and Destiny

An accountant with the international oversight body that governs the Stargate program. Now the highest ranking member of that body left stranded on the ship, she has a false sense of importance and superiority to the other military and civilian population along with a stubborn way of asserting it. (Solutions: Additional Casting Calls for Stargate Universe, January 9, 2009)

"I think what happens to Camile when she is thrown into this environment where they're on this Ancient ship called Destiny is that suddenly, her title that she was so proud of—that she worked so hard to achieve it—vanishes. She no longer has the power; her little badge where she has the special security clearance: that no longer applies. I think it creates a great level of vulnerability in her character. I think it's important because she has a lot of vital information and a lot of secrets about each individual on Icarus Base, and that's pretty much her weapon of choice." (Ming-Na, MGM Character Profile video)

"For me Camile Wray wasn't really quite fleshed out in the pilot episode and I was kind of concerned about her role and what she could contribute in the story line and when I spoke with Robert (Cooper) he was very excited about the character and he basically explained to me what his vision of her role would be and that's what drew me. She has a lot of strength, she has ambitions but it all comes from the heart, it all comes from caring about the people that are trapped in this situation so that was important for me, that there was a good reason for what she was going to do." (Ming-Na, Moviehole interview, August 11, 2009)

Still reeling in the shock of evacuating to the Destiny rather than to Earth, Camile demands to know who it was that made the decision. She has an intense face-to-face confrontation with MSgt. Ronald Greer from which Sgt. Riley must pull her away. (Spoilers for "Air", subject to change)

There's a chance that those at Stargate Command have figured a way to bring home the stranded people aboard the Destiny, but it's very risky and has never been done before. While Col. Everett Young weighs the pros and cons of the solution, Camile (using body-swapping technology so that she can visit Earth) is urged by her IOA supervisor Carl Strom to usurp command and finally have the Destiny under the IOA's full control. (Spoilers for "Earth", subject to change)

After some time on Destiny, Camile Wray uses the Ancient Communications Stones to visit her partner Sharon. They cook a meal together and Camile shares with Sharon all of the turmoil that she's experiencing on Destiny. She's trying to achieve something there, but there are forces working against her. Sharon listens and offers Camile comfort, but doesn't share her own vulnerability. One thing that Sharon does insist on Camile's doing is to see her parents, an elderly Asian couple. Right before Camile leaves, Sharon offers encouragement for Camile to work on a way to get everyone home and that she will be there waiting for her return. Once alone, Sharon's strong façade breaks down. (Spoilers for "Life", subject to change)

Camile is given another chance to visit Sharon through a body swap with Dr. Eleanor Perry, a scientist who is recommended by Rush to help them fix a problem on the Destiny when one of their FTL engines blows up. Camile gets to experience her partner's unconditional love when she becomes a quadriplegic during this body swap with Perry. (spoilers for "Sabotage", subject to change)
