Stargate Universe Character Breakdowns Revealed

Actor and sometime Stargate guest-star Morris Chapdelaine has posted (at his site) the character breakdowns for Stargate Universe. These will be used to signal agents which type of actors they should suggest to audition for the roles. As promised by the producers, studio, and network, most of the roles will be for younger actors, as they are looking for that younger demographic.

Character Breakdowns, Stargate Universe 03/09/08

Colonel Everett Young. 40’s handsome, capable, former SG team leader.  Like the Jack O’Neill of ten years ago, but Young’s edges have tended to sharpen over time. He requested permission to serve the remainder of his commission on Earth upon marrying his wife, Hailey, two years ago, but for now he’s temporary commander of a secret off world base.  The loss of two members of his team several years ago has taught him never to take anything for granted, and be prepared for anything.  He stays on top of his team so they stay alive.

Tamara Johanson. 20-25. SGC Field medic, Captain grade. Off world experience. Beautiful, tough, smart, capable.  Paramedic level  training. Able to triage serious injury. Modest background. Dreamed of being a doctor but couldn’t afford medical school and the Air Force was her best option. She ends up being the most medically inclined person on the ship but is overwhelmed by the lack of knowledge and experience treating seriously wounded and ill patients. She also lacks the medicine and supplies and has to make do.

Cloe Carpenter.
20 ish. Stunning and sexy. Daughter of a U.S. Senator.  Silver spoon upbringing and a little spoiled but not stupid either. Politically and socially savvy. Dreams of following in her father’s footsteps but for now she’s a bit of a party girl in her first year at an Ivy League school. Her father’s tragic death and the  dire circumstances of being trapped on a spaceship seriously tests her character.

Eli Hitchcock. 20-25.  Total slacker. Utter genius. Mathematics, computers, anything he puts his mind to.  Acerbic sense of humor. A social outcast. Comes from a broken home. Lacks confidence because his true intelligence has never really been recognized like Matt Damon’s character from Good Will Hunting with a little Jack Black thrown in.

Lt. Jared Nash. 20-25. Junior SGC team member. Officer material but green and rough around the edges. Every teenage girl’s fantasy. Like a college quarterback thrown into his first pro game, he is thrust into the role of leader well before he’s  ready for the responsibility and must learn to take command, earn respect through action, and manage the diverse personalities on the  ship to keep everyone alive. Like Jason Bourne, he is skilled and well-trained but mentally unprepared for the urgency of the situation.

Ron “Psycho” Stasiak. 20.  Marine.  Big, strong, silent.  You want  him on your side. You don’t want him mad at you.  Lacks control over his temper in non combat situations.  His emotional expression ranges from sarcasm to anger.  His past is a mystery but it’s clear something dark formed the hard shell around him. Yet, there must also be some moral center because otherwise he’d kill everyone around him.  Think Eric Bana’s character  “Hoot” in Blackhawk Down.  Adam Baldwin at 20 could play him.

  1. Thanks for posting these, Michelle.

I have to admit, it doesn’t make me feel any better, though. 🙁

  2. Well sounds like this show will really SUCK! As it a ship like this would be run by a “young and sexy” crew. So how is a big ship going to fit thru the gate? It’s not so it’s just going to be another Startrek. I hope everyone boycotts it until they bring back Sheppard and the gang.

  3. Ok so it appears we are going all out for the 20-25 year old crew then – with the token grown-up just to keep order. I thought Martin Lloyd came up with that idea in episode 200 of SG1 – along with replacing all the actors with puppets and doing cross-overs with Star Trek and Zombie movies. And this is supposed to be a serious replacement for Atlantis? This is college kids in space not a Stargate series.

  4. This is what they are dumping SGA for?! I sure hope they so some serious revamping of this! All the 20 something hipsters is weak and cheesy. I don’t want to watch a space based Bev Hills 90210! An experienced officer is not going to be an early 20’s twit. They are going to be, at most, mid 20’s, though more likely late 20’s early 30’s with your top ranking officers 40+ on the young end. I guess since they want “hip” we’ll get to see characters walking around with oversized t-shirts down to their knees, pants only pulled up to the bottom of their butt and underwear showing, and over sized ball caps turned to the side. SERIOUSLY, SCRAP IT AND STICK WITH SGA!!!!!!!!!!

  5. I’ve been a huge fan of both SG-1 and Atlantis and I never thought I’d say this. Right now it looks like won’t be looking forward to a Stargate series.

  6. wow. As a 24 year old fan of Stargate Atlantis, I am really horrified by this line-up. If I wanted to watch a show about perfect pretty people flouncing around, I think I might watch a movie like the Covenant. All pretty people…crappy acting and dialogue. I want my characters realistic and to have at least a few imperfections. Oh well, apparently everyone is jumping on this style of TV. Guess it’s back to books for me.

  7. Calm down people lol,

producers are stargate are not idiots, there is no question there, just look at SG1 and Atantis, i must admit the above characters do sound pants lol got to be said.

However i cant see it just being a teenie bobber show, Brad wright knows what has made him millions and it is not bunch of 20 year olds running around having sex on the bridge of a ship.

I really think we are talking the comments “younger audience” a bit to far in our minds, fair enough there will be some younger people there, but why not? take Samantha carter out of SG1 (sexy female scientist young as well to start with remember) the show would not have been half as good, my opinion anyway.

So back to my point, i strongly believe stargate universe will be the same action packed sci fi storylines but just with a few younger people in it, i SERIOUSLY doubt they are going to change the entire franchise to make it into a show like smalleville, dont get me wrong that show has done alot, however it does not suit stargate and the producers know this.

sure everyone will agree with this comment but “i hope my right lol”

  8. end of the day as well, the team has to start at the SGC so there will be well know charactors there, hopefully one or 2 will join the cast but we will have to see.
